Toronto’s Anthems In Ashes are premiering their second music video on PureGrainAudio.com, this time for the sassy and soulful single “Her Fire” off the 2017 EP “Burn it Down”. It’s a fun, energetic song with catchy melodies and lyrics with a true distorted rock and roll sound blended with a diverse range of vocals encompassing metal, punk and hints of soul. This well produced and artistic video brings fire to the genre, staying groovy and adding a sexy and heavy flair to it.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

 

HO:

 

I love being busy. Love to travel and I currently work as a flight attendant. I’ve been to about 25 countries so far. I have been singing since I could talk. I love writing and creating, and am currently studying film and television production in my spare time.

Darkzen: very good! 

 

What inspired you to become a singer?

 

HO:

 

I’ve always loved singing. When I was a kid, if I had the house to myself I would belt out all my favourite songs. Then when I was in high school I discovered My Chemical Romance and I knew I wanted to be Gerard Way one day.

 

How would you describe your songs to someone who hasn’t heard it before?

 

HO:

 

Our sound is heavy but melodic. It’s a fusion of high energy metal and rock. And there’s a mix of clean vocals and guttural screams.

 

Who are some of your musical influences?

 

HO:

 

I am influenced by a bunch of artists. In the early days I loved My Chemical Romance, Marilyn Manson and Slipknot. I really appreciated their theatrical style. Nowadays I love In This Moment, Deftones, and Silversun Pickups. I actually think Silversun Pickups have my favourite lyrics.

 

How was the production of the ‘Burn It Down’?

 

HO:

 

It was a fantastic experience. Siegfried Meier at Beach Road Studios is an amazing producer and his facilities are top notch. We got to stay at his property for a week and record the album there. We would work hard all day and then have a bonfire in the evening. It was like a working vacation.

 

Did you write some songs or is it a composition of other members of the band?

 

HO:

 

Mike will generally come in with a riff idea or a skeleton of a song and then we all expand on that. I write my own vocal melodies, harmonies and lyrics.

 

I liked your voice in ‘Her Fire’ song, what does mean to you?

 

HO:

 

Thank you! The song is about rebelling against organized religion. I went to a Catholic high school and didn’t always agree with the things they were preaching. I could write a whole album about that.

 

Your next album will be the same with the style of this EP? or it will be heavier or maybe between both musical styles?

 

HO:

 

I think our style will always be a mix between both metal and rock. I think there is more screaming in the new stuff though.

 

How have you done in your live performances?

 

HO:

 

Our live shows have been so much fun! We’re always thinking of new ways to improve our performances and we have 3 new songs that we can’t wait to test out.

 

 

Do you have in mind some tour in your country or outside?

 

 

HO:

 

Yes, we want to tour to Quebec and around the different major cities in Ontario next.

 

For your fans Harley, what do we expect of the band for next year?

 

HO:

 

Within the next year we hope to do a Canadian tour, come out with a couple new singles and music videos.

Anthems In Ashes de Toronto estrenará su segundo video musical en PureGrainAudio.com, esta vez para el sencillo descarado y conmovedor "Her Fire" del EP "Burn it Down" de 2017. Es una canción divertida y enérgica con melodías pegadizas y letras con un verdadero sonido distorsionado de rock and roll mezclado con una amplia gama de voces que abarcan metal, punk y toques de soul. Este video bien producido y artístico trae fuego al género, se mantiene genial y le agrega un toque sexy y pesado.

¿Cuéntanos un poco sobre ti?

 

HO:

 

Me encanta estar ocupada. Me encanta viajar y actualmente trabajo como azafata. He estado en unos 25 países hasta ahora. He estado cantando desde que pude hablar. Me encanta escribir y crear, y actualmente estoy estudiando cine y producción en televisión en mi tiempo libre.

¿Qué te inspiró a convertirte en cantante?

 

HO:

 

Siempre me ha gustado cantar. Cuando era niña, si tuviera la casa para mí sola, cantaría todas mis canciones favoritas. Luego, cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria, descubrí My Chemical Romance y supe que algún día quería ser Gerard Way.

 

¿Cómo describirías tus canciones a alguien que no las ha escuchado antes?

 

HO:

 

Nuestro sonido es pesado pero melódico. Es una fusión de metal y rock de alta energía. Y hay una mezcla de voces limpias y gritos guturales.

 

 

¿Quiénes son algunas de tus influencias musicales?

 

HO:

Tenemos que quedarnos en su propiedad por una semana y grabar el álbum allí. Trabajaríamos duro todo el día y luego tendríamos una hoguera en la noche. Era como unas vacaciones de trabajo.

HO:

 

Por lo general, Mike vendrá con una idea de riff o el esqueleto de una canción y luego todos lo ampliaremos. Escribo mis propias melodías vocales, armonías y letras.

 

Me gustó tu voz en la canción "Her Fire", ¿qué significa para ti?

 

HO:

 

¡Gracias! La canción trata de revelarse contra la religión organizada. Fui a una escuela secundaria católica y no siempre estaba de acuerdo con las cosas que estaban predicando. Podría escribir un álbum completo sobre eso.

 

¿Tu próximo álbum será el mismo con el estilo de este EP? ¿O será más pesado o quizás entre ambos estilos musicales?

 

HO:

 

Creo que nuestro estilo siempre será una mezcla entre metal y rock. Aunque creo que hay más gritos en las cosas nuevas.

 

¿Cómo has hecho en tus actuaciones en vivo?

 

HO:

 

Nuestros shows en vivo han sido muy divertidos! Siempre estamos pensando en nuevas formas de mejorar nuestras actuaciones y tenemos 3 nuevas canciones que no podemos esperar para probar.

 

¿Tienes en mente algún tour en tu país o fuera?

 

HO:

 

Sí, queremos visitar Quebec y conocer las diferentes ciudades principales de Ontario.

 

Para sus fans, Harley, ¿qué esperamos de la banda para el próximo año?

 

HO:

 

En el próximo año esperamos hacer una gira por Canadá, salir con un par de nuevos singles y videos musicales.
