Luna Kills is Heartbreak-rock band from Finland.
With hard work and persistence the band has paved a way for themselves. Band has a great number of gigs behind varying from smaller pubs to festival stages, from Finland to abroad. They have done two small tours to Russia and have shared stages with big Finnish and foreign acts.
Band was originally formed in 2015 under name "Tocornal" with Lotta Ruutiainen (vox), Samuli Paasineva (gtr), but officially started 2016. Band has had few line-up changes over the years but finally gained its shape, with Lassi Peltonen on bass and Maiju Mäki on drums.
Luna Kills sound is groovy and bluesy rock with an attitude. Band is also known for their captivating live show and room filling stage charisma.
Luna Kills released their debut album "Before the Satellites" November 2018 along with two music videos for "Violent Waters" and "Life Goals".

Tell us a little about you! who you are!
Lotta

I’m a Finnish singer from the band Luna Kills, and my whole existence basically revolves around music, arts and food, haha.
Darkzen:
mmmm how rich! (haha me too)
What are your influences within Metal?
Lotta
-
Reacently bands like King810, Lost Society, BMTH, Amorphis, In This Moment, etc. have been on a heavy rotation for myself. But I would say that, if talking about my vocals, I have more influences from other genres.
Any band or female singer especially that you like? Male Singer?
Lotta
-
So many! Maria Brink (In This Moment) has an amazing vocals as Corey Taylor (Slipknot). My vocal heros though are deeply in older jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone.
But probably the singers that have influenced me, and who I admire, the most are Matthew Bellamy (MUSE), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) and Lana Del Rey.

Excellent variation of voices!
Your voice is very curious! How do you train your voice? I like your voice!

I just sing haha. When I was in my teenage years I used to mimic my favourite singers, which varied from pop to metal to rap, and from there I sort of gained my sound over the years. I did take singing lessons back then, but I would say that what was, and still is, the best training method for me, is to play A LOT of shows. It has made me the singer I am today.

Everything! I listen music from any genre based on my mood and the time of the year.
Any musical instrument that you also play? which do you like!

I play piano and guitar as well. And when I was younger I used to play violin as well.
Do you write the lyrics of the songs or are they together with the whole band?
Lotta
-
I write the lyrics. For me to interpret and tell a story on stage, I need to have emotional bond with the text so naturally they are about my life and experiences. The lyrics have always been important for me, and I rarely listen to bands whose lyrics doesn’t speak to me in some way.
Darkzen:
interesting answer my friend Lotta, 'emotional link with the text' that is key to transmit what a song wants to express and that reaches people directly to their emotions and identify! There are albums that sound different even if they have a good musical production but if the singer does not do it that way, I think it's just another song.
The musical style that you have is a mix of Rock / Hard Rock with very well handled riffs, something similar to Led Zeppelin, tell me if I'm wrong? a retro style, your voice has good falsettos, for the "Violent Waters" video and the "Life Goals"

Yes, we are a mix of different genres since all of our band members have their own influences and musical backgrounds. We have been told that everyone kinda gets their own vibe from us, some say we are metal and some think we are, like you said litlle bit retro, so I guess something for everyone! I’d see our music as rock mixed with heavier guitars and modern bass&drum section.
Darkzen: well, it's right!
So how do you define the musical style of your band?

That is a really hard question, but I’d say we are, at the core, alternative rock. There are so many genres these days.
I like that musical style that you have! I think that nowadays retro is a little fashionable and back to be combined with modern musical styles or what do you think?
Lotta
-
That is kinda true, fashion comes and goes in cycles! But it’s important to do what you feel as yours, so you can breathe soul into it, no matter what the preference is in media etc.
What can you tell our audience that they have not yet listened to their álbum "Before the Satellites", what awaits us when listening the "Before the Satellites" álbum?

Before The Satellites is for people who appreciate vintage vibes, hard riffs and epic guitar solos with powerful vocals. It’s made to be listened from the first intro to the last beat.

Luna Kills es una banda Rock rompe corazones de Finlandia.
Con trabajo duro y persistencia, la banda ha allanado un camino para sí mismos. La banda tiene una gran cantidad de conciertos que van desde pubs más pequeños hasta escenarios de festivales, desde Finlandia hasta el extranjero. Han hecho dos pequeños viajes a Rusia y han compartido escenarios con grandes actuaciones finlandeses y extranjeros.
La banda se formó originalmente en 2015 bajo el nombre de "Tocornal" con Lotta Ruutiainen (voz), Samuli Paasineva (gtr), pero comenzó oficialmente el 2016. La banda ha tenido pocos cambios en la alineación a lo largo de los años, pero finalmente ganó su forma, con Lassi Peltonen en Bajo y Maiju Mäki en la batería.

- Soy una cantante finlandés de la banda Luna Kills, y toda mi existencia gira básicamente en torno a la música, las artes y la comida, jaja.

¿Cuáles son tus influencias dentro del metal?

- Solo canto jaja. Cuando era adolescente, solía imitar a mis cantantes favoritos, que variaban de pop a metal y de rap, y de allí gané mi sonido a lo largo de los años. Entonces tomé clases de canto, pero diría que lo que era, y aún es, el mejor método de entrenamiento para mí, es tocar MUCHOS shows. Me ha hecho el cantante que soy hoy.
HardRock, Rock o Metal para ti?

-¡Todo! Escucho música de cualquier género en función de mi estado de ánimo y la época del año.
¿Algún instrumento musical que tú también tocas? ¡Cual te gusta!
Lotta
- Toco el piano y la guitarra también. Y cuando era más joven también solía tocar el violín.
¿Escribes las letras de las canciones o ustedes juntos con toda la banda?
Lotta
- Escribo las letras. Para que interprete y cuente una historia en el escenario, necesito tener un vínculo emocional con el texto, de modo que naturalmente sean sobre mi vida y mis experiencias. Las letras siempre han sido importantes para mí, y rara vez escucho bandas cuyas letras no me hablan de alguna manera.
Darkzen:
interesante respuesta mi amiga Lotta, ‘vínculo emocional con el texto’ eso es clave para trasmitir lo que una canción quiere expresar y que llegue a la gente directo a sus emociones y se identifique! Hay álbumes que suenan diferentes aunque tengan buena producción musical pero si el cantante no lo hace así, creo solo es una canción más.
El estilo musical que tienes es una mezcla de Rock / Hard Rock con riffs muy bien manejados, algo similar a Led Zeppelin, dime si estoy equivocado. Un estilo retro, tu voz tiene buenos falsettos, para el video "Violent Waters" y "Life Goals".

- Sí, somos una mezcla de diferentes géneros, ya que todos los miembros de nuestra banda tienen sus propias influencias y orígenes musicales. Nos han dicho que cada uno recibe su propia vibra, algunos dicen que somos metaleros y otros piensan que lo somos, como usted dijo un poco retro, ¡así que supongo que hay algo para todos! Vería nuestra música como rock mezclado con guitarras más pesadas y una sección moderna de bajos y batería.

pues si es correcto!
Entonces, ¿cómo defines el estilo musical de tu banda?
Lotta
- Esa es una pregunta realmente difícil, pero diría que somos, en el núcleo, el rock alternativo. Hay tantos géneros en estos días.
Me gusta ese estilo musical que tienes! Creo que hoy en día lo retro está un poco a la moda y se
puede volver a combinar con los estilos musicales modernos o ¿qué piensas?
Lotta
- Eso es cierto, ¡la moda va y viene en ciclos! Pero es importante hacer lo que sientes como tuyo, para que puedas respirar el alma, sin importar cuál sea la preferencia en los medios, etc.
¿Qué puede decirle a nuestra audiencia que aún no han escuchado tu álbum "Before the Satellites", qué nos espera cuando escuchamos el álbum "Before the Satellites"?

- Before The Satellites es para personas que aprecian las vibraciones antiguas, los riffs duros y los solos de guitarra épicos con voces poderosas. Está hecho para ser escuchado desde la primera introducción hasta el último tiempo.
