Canada’s NWOTHM outfit Iron Kingdom is releasing their fifth studio album “The Blood Of Creation” this fall and in advance have the melodic new single “In The Grip Of Nightmares” ready for your consumption. The album is not a concept album, but they exhibit a passion for fantasy themes and pays homage to tales woven by acclaimed authors. The single is about the sword Stormbringer from the Michael Moorcock books Elric of Melnibonè Series. Bound together by fate, Elric consumes the souls of those he slays with Stormbringer and this dramatic relationship is conveyed through progressive traditional heavy metal in the vein of Helloween and Fates Warning. Fast and driving, it is also melodic with plenty of solos and focus on the leads. The band explains the track further:

“We started writing this song during the ‘On The Hunt’ sessions back in 2019, however, the song had a different energy than the rest of the album so we decided it would be best to come back to it at a later date. In late 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, we took a second look at what was to become ‘In The Grip Of Nightmares’. We rewrote the tune to be what it is today. It tells the tale of the legendary sentient sword ‘Stormbringer’ and its relationship to Elric. The sword ‘consumes’ the souls of those who it strikes down and feeds the energy into Elric, who needs it to survive. The two are bound together by fate. A fate that twists Chaos and Law, and leaves Elric in the grip of nightmares.”

Iron Kingdom set out to create music in a style of metal that seemed to have been forgotten when they were kids. Since no one else seemed to be doing it, they decided to play metal the way it used to be played in the 70s and 80s while transporting listeners into unique, fantastic worlds. Since their conception, they have toured around the world, keeping old-school vibes alive.

My Recomendation

The album has a good atmospheric, instrumental, ambient start with the style of the old American west that later in Sheathe The Sword welcomes us with an explosion of speed power metal with that classic heavy metal, harmonic chords where the guitar chords lead those tempos and the drums doing their thing, Queen Of The Crystal Throne we have a mixture of eighties heavy/glam metal with that characteristic rich hard rock with harmonic and high-pitched guitars, in Hunter And Prey we come back with a speed power with heavy metal as such , classic and harmonized, with Witching Hour we have a melodic heavy metal as such, light to slow rhythms, a discreet bass that is heard accompanying the chords of lead guitars and drums, and from there we launched with The Blood Of Creation the song with the title of the album, which dreams of a great eighties heavy metal, opening the chords ahead in a brilliant, melodic and synchronized way between the two guitars der and closes a bit with the style in which the album was opened.

We have in the whole album an explosive, melodic and harmonic combination of Heavy/Power/Speed Metal with that eighties and classic touch of that time where the solos between the leading guitars are a fundamental part in the middle of each song, which is not reached to note is the rhythmic part between the lead guitars, both have the same prominence and time, the drums and bass remain discreet and strong, there is stellar guitar work on two guitars, the album has a great content of meaty riffs, sonorous, melodic and stellar solos that many fans will delight in, Iron Kingdom's The Blood of Creation album is a strong traditional heavy metal piece with 70's and 80's style of great Heavy Metal and vintage inspiration from great bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Helloween! With that touch of NWOBHM (New wave of British Heavy Metal).

El equipo de NWOTHM de Canadá, Iron Kingdom, lanzará su quinto álbum de estudio “The Blood Of Creation” este otoño y de antemano tiene el nuevo sencillo melódico “In The Grip Of Nightmares” listo para su consumo. El álbum no es un álbum conceptual, pero exhiben una pasión por los temas de fantasía y rinde homenaje a los cuentos tejidos por autores aclamados. El sencillo trata sobre la espada Stormbringer de los libros de Michael Moorcock Elric of Melnibonè Series. Unidos por el destino, Elric consume las almas de aquellos a los que mata con Stormbringer y esta relación dramática se transmite a través del heavy metal progresivo tradicional en la línea de Helloween y Fates Warning. Rápido y conducido, también es melódico con muchos solos y se enfoca en los protagonistas. La banda explica la pista con más detalle:

 

“Comenzamos a escribir esta canción durante las sesiones de ‘On The Hunt’ en 2019, sin embargo, la canción tenía una energía diferente al resto del álbum, por lo que decidimos que sería mejor volver a ella en una fecha posterior. A fines de 2020, durante el bloqueo de Covid-19, echamos un segundo vistazo a lo que se convertiría en 'In The Grip Of Nightmares'. Reescribimos la melodía para que sea lo que es hoy. Cuenta la historia de la legendaria espada sensible 'Storbringer' y su relación con Elric. La espada "consume" las almas de aquellos a los que derriba y alimenta la energía a Elric, que la necesita para sobrevivir. Los dos están unidos por el destino. Un destino que tuerce el Caos y la Ley, y deja a Elric en las garras de las pesadillas”.

 

Iron Kingdom se propuso crear música en un estilo de metal que parecía haber sido olvidado cuando eran niños. Como nadie más parecía estar haciéndolo, decidieron tocar metal de la forma en que solía tocarse en los años 70 y 80 mientras transportaban a los oyentes a mundos únicos y fantásticos. Desde su concepción, han realizado giras por todo el mundo, manteniendo vivas las vibraciones de la vieja escuela.

El albúm tiene un buen inicio atmosférico, instrumental, ambiental y con estilo del viejo oeste americano que posteriormente en Sheathe The Sword nos da la bienvenida con una explosión de speed power metal con ese heavy metal clásico, acordes armónicos donde los acordes de guitarras lideran esos tempos y la batería haciendo de las suyas, Queen Of The Crystal Throne tenemos una mezcolanza de un heavy/glam metal ochentero con ese rico hard rock característico con guitarras armónicas y agudas, en Hunter And Prey volvemos con un speed power con heavy metal como tal, clásico y armonizado, con Witching Hour tenemos un melódico heavy metal como tal, ritmos ligeros a lentos, un bajo discreto que se escucha acompañando a los acordes de guitarras líderes y batería, y de ahí nos lanzamos con The Blood Of Creation la canción con el título del albúm, el cual sueña con un gran heavy metal ochentero, abriendo los acordes por delante de manera genial, melodica y sincronizada entre las dos guitarras líder y cierra un poco con el estilo en el que abrió el albúm.

Tenemos en todo el albúm una combinación explosiva, melodica y armónica de Heavy/Power/Speed Metal con ese toque ochentero y clásico de aquella época donde los solos entre las guitarras líderes son parte primordial a mitad de cada canción, lo que no se alcanza a notar es la parte rítmica entre las guitarras líderes, las dos tienen el mismo protagonismo y tiempo, la batería y bajo se mantienen en forma discreta y fuerte, hay trabajo de guitarra estelar dos guitarras, el albúm está con un gran contenido de riffs carnosos, sonoros, melódicos y solos estelares que a muchos fanáticos se deleitarán, el albúm The Blood of Creation, de Iron Kingdom es una pieza de heavy metal tradicional fuerte con estilo en los años 70 y 80 de un gran Heavy Metal e inspiración de época de grandes bandas como Iron Maiden, Judas Priest y Helloween! Con ese toque de NWOBHM (New wave of British Heavy Metal).
