The Dark Side of Venus is a rock/alternative project founded by pianist composer Licia Missori – that is to say, by her dark side – in 2010. At the time, she felt the need to express a part of herself that had always been in the dark. That’s how she chose the name of the project, referring to the hidden side of a planet whose name is anciently associated with beauty, love and femininity.

​

Until 2014, the voice of the band was Ida Elena (now singer of Bare Infinity). In 2015 she was replaced by Francesca Elayne Naccarelli, known as singer of symphonic metal band Dunwich. The rest of the band is composed of Alessandro Lopane (guitars), Yuri Colafigli (bass) and Daniele Saulle (drums).

The music that comes from their playing together has a huge variety of influences: ’90s alternative rock scene, ’80s synth pop music, not to mention the classical music influences in Licia Missori’s composing.

During 2017, the band promotes the álbum with several radio interviews and concerts, including an important opening for the legendary band Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin and participation in the Italian dates of the Female Metal Voices Tour 2017 whose headliners are The Birthday Massacre, The Agonist and Sirenia. The new guitarist is Lorenzo De Angelis! and Luca Pichi on drums.

How are you Francesca? Very good voice ;)

Thank you very much! I’m going through a lot of ups and downs lately, but music keeps me happy ^_^

As is a bit customary for us, who is Francesca Elayne? Tell us about you!

​

Francesca

​

I’m just a nerdy, shy girl, who happened to be in love with music since childhood. I always loved to sing, and tried to play several instruments. I like to draw and write stories too, and I do some cosplays as well. Everything that involves creativity intrigues me 😊

​

How did you start in your musical career?

​

Francesca

​

Being super-shy, I waited a long time before looking for a band. I studied operatic and rock singing, but I mostly sang for myself. Then, I had the opportunity to join the symphonic metal band Dunwich, and everything changed. We released one album and several singles, but Dunwich was a studio band, while I wanted to play live, so in the end our paths diverged.

​

Tell us your musical influences today, inside and outside the Metal

​

​

I always loved Within Temptation, After Forever, The Gathering, Nightwish… but my favorite singer among them is Anneke van Giersbergen, she has such a soothing and enchanting voice. I like to sing along with her, and each time I learn something.  When I write something anyway, I’m deeply influenced by celtic/irish/medieval music!

​

We go to talk about your band, you have a variety of musical styles, in the band the Dark Side of Venus, is it easy to mix all those musical styles?

​

​

The main composer of the band is Licia, so if there are different styles it’s because she is very eclectic! I personally love  the fact she is so unpredictable. Everytime she comes up with a new song, it’s a surprise!

Do you have any musical preferences?   Rock or Metal?

​

Francesca

​

I like both generes, but I’ve got very wide and sometimes contradictory tastes ( I even like som pop/dance music! ) , so I can’t say I have a strong preference for a genre!  But I can say I love progressive rock, especially from ’70s

​

Do you write the lyrics of the songs? What is your motivation for the lyrics, for you?

​

​

I wrote lyrics for Dunwich. Every song was inspired by tales and legends from all across the world. We wanted to share ancient lores and enchant people with those magical, sometimes tragic stories. When it comes to the The Dark Side of Venus, all lyrics are by Licia, and they are mostly autobiographical. We had similar experiences in the past,  so I really feel her words when I sing them!

​

His last álbum 'Power To Victims' is extensive in the content of songs, it is a good álbum I heard it! Are you currently preparing a new álbum?

​

​

Thak you very much! Yes, we are currently working on the arrangements of the new songs, and will probably record them later this year. I can’t wait for it!

​

Tell us about your Marco Palazzi band, what do you have prepared for this year?

​

Francesca

​

I just joined them. It’s a very interesting and funny project, based on a story written by Marco Palazzi himself. It’s a fantasy adventure, and everyone have a role ( I play a fire witch! ), his own song, and plays a part in others’ songs, it’s sort of a concept album! We have some songs ready and we will record an EP really soon. 

​

What are Francesca's plans for this year too? or they are the same as with your bands

​

​

Record and perform, record and perform as much as I can! I waited too long in the past, I don’t want to do the same mistakes.

​

​

The latest news is that I started singing with another band too. It’s called “Fragment”, and plays progressive-celtic music. I was their fan way before they asked me to join them, so if you like celtic music, look for their first album, “Second Awakening”, on Spotify. I don’t sing there, but you’ll love them!

The Dark Side of Venus es un proyecto de rock / alternativo fundado por la compositora pianista Licia Missori, por su lado oscuro, en 2010. En ese momento, sintió la necesidad de expresar una parte de sí misma que siempre había estado en la oscuridad. Así es como eligió el nombre del proyecto, refiriéndose al lado oculto de un planeta cuyo nombre está asociado en la antigüedad con la belleza, el amor y la feminidad.

Hasta 2014, la voz de la banda era Ida Elena (ahora cantante de Bare Infinity). En 2015 fue reemplazada por Francesca Elayne Naccarelli, conocida como cantante de la banda de metal sinfónico Dunwich. El resto de la banda está compuesta por Alessandro Lopane (guitarras), Yuri Colafigli (bajo) y Daniele Saulle (batería).

La música que viene de su forma de tocar juntos tiene una gran variedad de influencias: la escena del rock alternativo de los 90, la música pop sintetizada de los 80, sin mencionar las influencias de la música clásica en la composición de Licia Missori.

Durante el 2017, la banda promociona el álbum con varias entrevistas y conciertos de radio, que incluyen una importante apertura para el legendario Goblin de Claudio Simonetti y la participación en las fechas italianas de Female Metal Voices Tour 2017, cuyos artistas principales son The Birthday Massacre, The Agonist and Sirenia... El nuevo guitarrista es Lorenzo De Angelis! y Luca Pichi en la batería.

¡Muchas gracias! Estoy pasando por muchos altibajos últimamente, pero la música me mantiene feliz ^ _ ^

Como es un poco habitual para nosotros, ¿Quién es Francesca Elayne? ¡Cuéntanos acerca de ti!

​

Solo soy una chica tímida, nerda, que estuvo enamorada de la música desde la infancia. Siempre me encantó cantar, e intenté tocar varios instrumentos. También me gusta dibujar y escribir historias, y también hago algunos cosplays. Todo lo que involucra creatividad me intriga :) 

​

¿Cómo empezaste en tu carrera musical?

​

​

Siendo súper tímida, esperé mucho tiempo antes de buscar una banda. Estudié ópera y canto de rock, pero sobre todo canté para mí. Luego, tuve la oportunidad de unirme a la banda de metal sinfónico Dunwich, y todo cambió. Lanzamos un álbum y varios singles, pero Dunwich era una banda de estudio, mientras que yo quería tocar en vivo, así que al final nuestros caminos se separaron.

Cuéntanos tus influencias musicales hoy en día, dentro y fuera del Metal.

Me gusta cantar con ella, y cada vez aprendo algo. Cuando escribo algo de todos modos, ¡estoy profundamente influenciada por la música celta / irlandesa / medieval!

Vamos a hablar sobre tu banda, tienes una variedad de estilos musicales, en la banda Dark Side of Venus, ¿Es fácil mezclar todos esos estilos musicales?

​

​

La principal compositora de la banda es Licia, así que si hay diferentes estilos es porque es muy ecléctica. Personalmente me encanta el hecho de que ella es tan impredecible. Cada vez que se le ocurre una nueva canción, ¡es una sorpresa!

​

¿Tienes alguna preferencia musical? Rock o Metal?

​

Francesca

​

Me gustan los dos géneros, pero tengo gustos muy amplios y, a veces, contradictorios (¡incluso me gusta algo de música pop / dance!), Así que no puedo decir que tengo una fuerte preferencia por un género. Pero puedo decir que amo el rock progresivo, especialmente de los años 70.

​

¿Escribes la letra de las canciones? ¿Cuál es tu motivación para las letras, para ti?

​

​

Escribí la letra de Dunwich. Cada canción está inspirada en cuentos y leyendas de todo el mundo. Queríamos compartir antiguos lores y encantar a la gente con esas historias mágicas, a veces trágicas. Cuando se trata del lado oscuro de Venus, todas las letras son de Licia, y en su mayoría son autobiográficas. Tuvimos experiencias similares en el pasado, ¡así que realmente siento sus palabras cuando las canto!

 

Su último álbum 'Power to Victims' es extenso en el contenido de las canciones, ¡es un buen álbum lo escuché! ¿Están preparando un nuevo álbum?

¡Muchas gracias! Sí, actualmente estamos trabajando en los arreglos de las nuevas canciones, y probablemente las grabemos más adelante este año. ¡No puedo esperar!

​

Cuéntanos sobre tu banda de Marco Palazzi, ¿Qué has preparado para este año?

​

​

Acabo de unirme a ellos. Es un proyecto muy interesante y divertido, basado en una historia escrita por el mismo Marco Palazzi. Es una aventura de fantasía, y todos tienen un papel (¡yo interpreto a una bruja de fuego!), Su propia canción y un papel en las canciones de otros, ¡es una especie de álbum conceptual! Tenemos algunas canciones listas y grabaremos un EP muy pronto.

​

¿Cuáles son los planes de Francesca para este año también? O son lo mismo que con tus bandas.

​

​

¡Graba y toca, graba y toca todo lo que pueda! Esperé demasiado tiempo en el pasado, no quiero cometer los mismos errores.

​

¿Algo más que quieras compartir con nosotros?

​

La última noticia es que también comencé a cantar con otra banda. Se llama "Fragmento" y reproduce música progresiva-celta. Yo era su fan antes de que me pidieran que me uniera a ellos, así que si te gusta la música celta, busca su primer álbum, "Second Awakening", en Spotify. No canto allí, ¡pero te encantarán!
