Spearheaded by two Russian-born vocalists, Major Moment has developed an intense and diverse cinematic rock soundscape that integrates heavy guitar riffs, multi-layered synths, and melodic vocals. Their mission is to inspire people to pursue their dreams and live a life of purpose.

Formed in early 2018, Major Moment has disrupted the Boston rock scene with their debut EP, one small stEP, and proved itself not only as the band that dreams big but also as one of the most hardworking players in the game, claiming the attention of music fans, media, and industry professionals worldwide. The band won “Best Rock Album of the Year” at the 2019 IMEA Awards, “Best Rock Production” (2019) and “Best Lyric Video” (2020) at the Independent Music Awards, “Best Rock Song” and “The Lennon Award” at the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. The band was also nominated for “Best Rock” two years in a row at the Hollywood Music In Media Awards.

Since the release of “one small stEP”, Major Moment proves to be a band that dreams big and puts in the hard work to earn it. They have gained the support and attention of fans, media and industry professionals worldwide. Starting off their 2019 on a high note with the performance on Hilton Stage of Winter NAMM Show, Major Moment has kept the bar high by following up with their sophomore record, “The Sequel” (2019), receiving a total of 31 nominations, 7 wins and 6 honorable mentions in various music and songwriting awards. After receiving support from Idobi Radio, Alt.Press, Loudwire, Metal Insider, and getting 170k+ streams for their recently released anthemic single “The Flood” (2020), Boston-based hard rockers Major Moment have already released 2 music videos, 3 reimagined tracks, a brand new single “No Fear” (2020), and are getting ready to release more new music in the near future.

Hello! Thank you very much for your time for this interview and welcome to Darkzen Dragón Metal Angels, how have you been?

MM:

We’ve been fine, thank you for inviting us!

Andrey Borzykin and Sasha Razumova tell us the story of Major Moment?

Andrey – Sasha:

We have stories to tell, for sure! It started as a dream, since young age Andrey wanted to pursue a career in music. That was one of the reasons he moved from Russia to the US back in 2006, however his musical aspirations had to wait for a decade...

Back in Russia, Sasha was a professional tennis player, but always loved singing and wished to record “a solo album” someday.

By a chance, the two met when Sasha was traveling, and eventually Sasha made the move to the States as well, married Andrey and convinced him to pursue his dreams. That’s when Major Moment got started. Want to know what happens next? Follow our journey on Instagram and other social media outlets.

What are your musical influences?

MM:

They vary greatly from classic rock to pop music to electronic music to classic music to modern rock and metal. Some of the most notable ones are Linkin Park, Bring Me The Horizon, Keane, Papa Roach, Nine Inch Nails. Latest influences include even a more diverse set of artists, like Billie Eilish, PVRIS, and Architects.

Your songs have an excellent theme and musical composition. Where do you find the concept, feeling, inspiration?

MM:

Thank you, we’re glad to hear you like our music! Anything can be a source of inspiration for us, and so far lyrically our life has served as the biggest inspiration. All our songs are based on or inspired by real events, conversations, observations, etc. As far as music ideas go (and all of our songs evolved from instrumental ideas), we usually look for the sounds to inspire us, whether it’s a cool synth patch or a chord progression we come up with. Sound design and production is an important part of our identity. When it comes to creating the concept for music videos, we’re trying hard to be as creative as possible. We love story-based music videos, like movies that take you on a journey in a short period of time. It’s also a way to bring the song’s lyrics to life or maybe even show it from a different perspective. If our music videos will make you not only enjoy the visuals but to actually think about what’s happening on the screen, we’ve achieved our goal.

In these difficult times for all of us, I think music is an important part to cope with reality in some way. How does Major Moment feel about it?

MM:

Music has become severely undervalued and underappreciated in the past 20 years, and just like with everything else, people don’t seem to care about something that’s technically free, until it’s gone. For us, music has always been the best way to cope with reality, ever since we were teenagers, we would turn to our favorite music to help us celebrate something or overcome a difficult period of time. That’s one of the reasons why we wanted to pursue music professionally: we felt like now it was our time to give, and to share our music with the world. Hopefully it will find its way to the hearts of those who need to hear it. Music has always played a huge part in our lives, so even during this difficult time we’ll just keep making more music, music videos and other cool content.

Tell us about your singles “The Flood”, “May Leave Scars” and “Living Your Life Like This”, the songwriting is excellent!

MM:

Thank you! Our songs are messages into the world, so we spend a lot of time making sure we get the point across and have something meaningful to tell. As we mentioned earlier, all our songs are based on real-life events. With “May Leave Scars” it was inspired by an argument between Andrey and his friend he used to make music with, who was trying to make a point that rock music is dead and no one needs it anymore. “Living You Life Like This” was written after our conversation with our ex-guitarist Gabriel, about life goals and future plans. While he was very talented and seemed to be interested in music as his career, his parents’ plans about his future did not align with it, so eventually, he decided to leave Major Moment and go study accounting. Songwriting on “The Flood” was a lot different than any of our previous songs. Previously, we used to collaborate on what Andrey has already written lyrically, but with this song we’ve decided to take a different approach, since Sasha was about to lay down her lead vocals for the first time. Lyrically, it started when 4 band members quit on the same day, practically leaving Andrey & Sasha as a duo, and failing to fulfil the obligations they’ve committed to - we had an upcoming show we had to sell tickets for, needless to say it now had to be canceled. As we were writing the song, we realized that there’s more than just our ex-bandmates’ disrespect we were talking about, it was about people disrespecting each other every day, disrespecting the environment and not caring about the imprint they leave… So yeah, we write our best songs when someone quits the band, haha.

Question for Sasha. The musical interpretation is whole only with the voices that convey it. How do you feel when singing these songs?

Sasha:

I absolutely agree with you, while the vocals is just another instrument in the song, it’s like the glue that connects all other instruments together, filling up all of them with meaning and purpose. When singing, I try to remember the feeling I had while I was writing the song, because this emotion is what “sells” the performance.

And for Andrey? What can you tell us based on the previous question

Andrey:

When I perform, I don’t normally think about things or the original meaning behind the songs, I’m in the moment and I’m somewhere else at the same time. I feel that since I’ve heard and sang these songs so many times during the writing, recording, mixing sessions, that they become my voice, and even if I sing different notes (intentionally or not, lol), the meaning and the feeling remains the same.

Are you working on a different project or complete album? Would you give us a little advance?

MM:

We’re ALWAYS working on something, haha. Arguably, we’ve been working too much lately, so we’re pretty exhausted, and need a bit of a break. Hopefully, we’ll be able to travel more or less normally soon. That being said, we already have several new singles planned for later in the year, and as far as the album goes… we’ll see. We would definitely want to make it happen, but the industry and the music consumption has heavily shifted towards singles and other short-form content, so we’re looking for ways to work around these factors without compromising on anything. If everything goes according to plan, there might even be a vinyl on the horizon.

Will you make any other video like “The Flood”?

MM:

Our music video for “The Flood” has definitely set a pretty high bar for an emerging independent self-funded band like ourselves. We’re determined to keep it up with high quality music videos in the future, but hopefully they won’t require buying black caviar and flooding a room with 6000 gallons of water. For your fans, what do you want to say or will you make a live stream through a social network?

MM:

We’d like to thank everyone for their ongoing support, and would love to connect with our fanbase more regularly! It is definitely on the top of our list to go live and maybe perform a song or two, so we’re working on that.

What message or motivation of strength do you want to tell our readers?

MM:

Our songs are really the best representation of messages of strength and motivation we could possibly think of, so listen to our music, read the lyrics, watch our music and lyric videos, follow along our journey, cause if we can accomplish something and pursue a career in the most challenging industry in the foreign country, singing in a foreign to us language, you certainly should fight for your dreams and you too can make things happen!

Anything else you would like to share?

MM:

We really hope that the music industry will recover fast after the disaster that 2020 has been. Musicians and industry workers have been hit hard, harder than most. While bigger artists can still support themselves off of millions of streams, it’s much more challenging for emerging artists. Andrey - Sasha:

MM:

Gracias, nos alegra que te guste nuestra música. Cualquier cosa puede ser una fuente de inspiración para nosotros, y hasta ahora líricamente nuestra vida ha servido como la mayor inspiración. Todas nuestras canciones se basan o se inspiran en hechos reales, conversaciones, observaciones, etc. En lo que respecta a las ideas musicales (y todas nuestras canciones evolucionaron a partir de ideas instrumentales), generalmente buscamos los sonidos para inspirarnos, ya sea que sea genial. parche de sintetizador o una progresión de acordes que se nos ocurra. El diseño y la producción de sonido es una parte importante de nuestra identidad. Cuando se trata de crear el concepto para videos musicales, nos esforzamos por ser lo más creativos posible. En estos tiempos difíciles para todos nosotros, creo que la música es una parte importante para hacer frente a la realidad de alguna manera. ¿Cómo se siente Major Moment al respecto?

MM:

La música se ha subestimado y subestimado severamente en los últimos 20 años, y al igual que con todo lo demás, a la gente no parece importarle algo que es técnicamente gratis, hasta que se acaba. Para nosotros la música siempre ha sido la mejor forma de afrontar la realidad, desde que éramos adolescentes recurríamos a nuestra música favorita para ayudarnos a celebrar algo o superar un momento difícil. Esa es una de las razones por las que queríamos dedicarnos a la música de manera profesional: sentimos que ahora era nuestro momento para dar y compartir nuestra música con el mundo. Es de esperar que llegue a los corazones de aquellos que necesitan escucharlo. La música siempre ha jugado un papel muy importante en nuestras vidas, por lo que incluso durante este momento difícil, seguiremos haciendo más música, videos musicales y otro contenido interesante.

Cuéntanos sobre tus sencillos "The Flood", "May Leave Scars" y "Living Your Life Like This", ¡la composición es excelente!

MM:

¡Gracias! Nuestras canciones son mensajes al mundo, por lo que pasamos mucho tiempo asegurándonos de transmitir el mensaje y de tener algo significativo que contar. Como mencionamos anteriormente, todas nuestras canciones se basan en eventos de la vida real. Con "May Leave Scars" se inspiró en una discusión entre Andrey y su amigo con el que solía hacer música, que estaba tratando de dejar claro que la música rock está muerta y que ya nadie la necesita. “Living You Life Like This” fue escrito después de nuestra conversación con nuestro ex guitarrista Gabriel, sobre las metas de la vida y los planes futuros. Si bien era muy talentoso y parecía interesado en la música como carrera, los planes de sus padres sobre su futuro no se alineaban con ella, por lo que finalmente decidió dejar Major Moment e ir a estudiar contabilidad. Escribir canciones en “The Flood” fue muy diferente a cualquiera de nuestras canciones anteriores. Anteriormente, solíamos colaborar en lo que Andrey ya había escrito líricamente, pero con esta canción hemos decidido adoptar un enfoque diferente, ya que Sasha estaba a punto de dejar su voz principal por primera vez. Líricamente, comenzó cuando 4 miembros de la banda renunciaron el mismo día, prácticamente dejando a Andrey & Sasha como un dúo y no cumpliendo con las obligaciones con las que se habían comprometido: teníamos un próximo espectáculo para el que teníamos que vender entradas, no hace falta decirlo. ahora tenía que ser cancelado. Mientras escribíamos la canción, nos dimos cuenta de que había algo más que la falta de respeto de nuestros excompañeros de la que estábamos hablando, se trataba de personas que se faltan el respeto entre sí todos los días, no respetan el medio ambiente y no se preocupan por la huella que dejan ... Así que sí, escribimos nuestras mejores canciones cuando alguien deja la banda, jaja.

Pregunta para Sasha. La interpretación musical es completa solo con las voces que la transmiten. ¿Cómo te sientes al cantar estas canciones?

Sasha:

Estoy absolutamente de acuerdo contigo, mientras que la voz es solo un instrumento más en la canción, es como el pegamento que conecta a todos los demás instrumentos, llenándolos de significado y propósito. Al cantar, trato de recordar la sensación que tuve mientras escribía la canción, porque esta emoción es la que “vende” la interpretación.

¿Y para Andrey? ¿Qué nos puedes decir en base a la pregunta anterior?

Andrey:

Cuando actúo, normalmente no pienso en las cosas o en el significado original detrás de las canciones, estoy en el momento y estoy en otro lugar al mismo tiempo. Siento que desde que escuché y canté tantas veces estas canciones durante las sesiones de escritura, grabación, mezcla, que se convierten en mi voz, e incluso si canto diferentes notas (intencionalmente o no, jejeje), el significado y el sentimiento. sigue siendo el mismo.

¿Están trabajando en un proyecto diferente o en un álbum completo? ¿Nos darías un pequeño adelanto?

MM:

SIEMPRE estamos trabajando en algo, jaja. Podría decirse que últimamente hemos estado trabajando demasiado, por lo que estamos bastante agotados y necesitamos un pequeño descanso. Con suerte, pronto podremos viajar con más o menos normalidad. Dicho esto, ya tenemos varios sencillos nuevos planeados para más adelante en el año, y en lo que respecta al álbum ... ya veremos. Definitivamente, nos gustaría que esto sucediera, pero la industria y el consumo de música se han desplazado en gran medida hacia los sencillos y otro contenido de formato corto, por lo que estamos buscando formas de solucionar estos factores sin comprometer nada. Si todo sale según lo planeado, incluso podría haber un vinilo en el horizonte.

MM:

¿Qué mensaje o motivación de fuerza quieres transmitir a nuestros lectores?

MM:

Nuestras canciones son realmente la mejor representación de mensajes de fuerza y motivación que podamos pensar, así que escucha nuestra música, lee la letra, mira nuestra música y videos de letras, sigue nuestro viaje, porque si podemos lograr algo y perseguir una carrera en la industria más desafiante del país extranjero, cantando en un idioma extranjero para nosotros, ¡ciertamente debes luchar por tus sueños y tú también puedes hacer que las cosas sucedan!

¿Algo más que les gustaría compartir?

MM:

Realmente esperamos que la industria de la música se recupere rápidamente después del desastre que ha sido 2020. Los músicos y los trabajadores de la industria se han visto muy afectados, más que la mayoría. Si bien los artistas más grandes aún pueden mantenerse a sí mismos con millones de transmisiones, es mucho más desafiante para los artistas emergentes.
