Female-fronted melodic metal from Switzerland – this is Dreams in Fragments. The foursome, consisting of Seraina Schoepfer (lead vocals), Chris Geissmann (guitar, vocals), Jan Thomas (bass) and Franc Fritschi (drums) hails from the otherwise so calm town (un)known as Wangen bei Olten somewhere between Basel, Berne and Zurich. Due to its musical stylings, the band has been compared to bands such as «Nightwish» or «Delain». However, Dreams in Fragments have no reason to present themselves as a cover band of any of the greats; Seraina’s voice, operatic yet light as a feather, combined with Chris‘ growls sets the band apart in the same way the union of hard guitar riffs and dreamy orchestrations does. It is only fitting that the set list is built around the band’s own compositions such as «The Maze» and «Nightchild».

 

The Swiss quartet Dreams of Fragments is a new band that combines gothic and extreme elements with its symphonic metal style, mostly simple, and on their debut album, Reflections of a Nightmare!

Everytime

 

Explosive, fast and atmospheric, a heavy and melodic entrance, the combination of voices gives them even more melancholy atmosphere, serious voices and dark nuances.

 

Nightchild

 

Another strong and fast entry, the combination of voices is embodied and executed, the goth atmosphere that has gives it that variability in sounds, although in the end the song remains somewhat empty.

 

The Maze

 

A slightly different entry of keyboards, with a sound and rhythm as at the beginning of the album, Seraina's voice is heard a little differently clearer and smoother! One more song continues and cleans up sounds with greater exposure of the singer's voice.

 

Incomplete

 

A slower, denser and darker song, that pleases me a lot, you can hear more the handling of instruments such as drums / dense guitars, the voices give you greater musical presence with greater harmony and melancholy.

 

Prologue

 

Excellent prologue! Instrumental in its greatest exhibition, the atmospheric part of the album if we can describe it.

 

Defy Every Storm

 

Dense and strong drum input integrated with these guitars, a rhythm with slow times but without leaving a rhythm and continuous speed, a bit the end something hurried to finish.

 

Falling With A Crown

 

The sounds of many of these entries are similar without losing speed or harmony that is well done and embodied in some of the songs on the album, here we hear more the guttural Christian with a dark and melancholy heavy melody.

 

Little Red

 

I like the strength of this song at times, forcefulness and more structured with the combination of voices and musical instruments, with a more determined ending, since the entrance is a little different from what we were hearing from the beginning.

 

In Flames

 

A stronger and more determined entrance, a song with greater presence and strength, the voice of Seraina is kept in a low and soft range, here the musical part is the most representative and well managed.

 

Unireverse

 

And to close this super album we leave this last song with greater harmony at the entrance and melodic, with greater energy and more clear, the beautiful voice of Seraina with splendid coverage and execution.

 

 

My Recomendation

 

This band from Switzerland did a great job, in addition to extensive, a good combination of sounds and styles, Gothic throughout the album, Dark and modern with a Dark Metal for the use of electronics that accompanied some songs a bit, I think it is a Goth with style to the old school like Theater of the Tragedy for example, between Symphonic Metal and Operative by the vocal handling of Seraina, The songs of the album "Reflections Of A Nightmare" are mainly in average times to fast, like in the Very energetic start of "Everytime" and the end of "Unireverse", going through a totally environmental part, The sound of the Swiss and the guitar parts with keyboards are very much balanced with each other. Guitarist Christian Geissmann's built-in gutturals make quite a nice contrast along with Seraina's clear voice, the operatic features are remarkable but should have been a bit more forceful and representative in some of the higher notes or in the low passages yet to be highlighted a little more, at times the music does not make the voice of Seraina stand out. Musically it's fine although the sound is similar in some of the tracks but it's a good job done and original.

 

The Voice

 

It has beautiful Seraina tessitura, clear and soft, with a well-defined range which is heard throughout the album, does not change in rhythm, on the contrary in certain notes it increases its falsetto to match the musical track and makes a good contrast with the gutural by Christian Geissmann.

El cuarteto, formado por Seraina Schoepfer (voz principal), Chris Geissmann (guitarra, voz), Jan Thomas (bajo) y Franc Fritschi (batería) oriundos de la ciudad que de otra manera es tan tranquila y conocida como Wangen bei Olten en algún lugar entre Basilea, Berna y Zurich. Debido a sus estilos musicales, la banda ha sido comparada con bandas como «Nightwish» o «Delain». Sin embargo, Dreams in Fragments no tiene ninguna razón para presentarse como una banda de cobertura de cualquiera de los grandes; La voz de Seraina, operística pero ligera como una pluma, combinada con los guturales de Chris, diferencia a la banda de la misma manera que lo hace la unión de riffs de guitarra dura y orquestaciones de ensueño. Es lógico que la lista de canciones esté construida alrededor de las propias composiciones de la banda, como «The Maze» y «Nightchild».

 

El cuarteto suizo Dreams of Fragments es una nueva banda que combina elementos góticos y extremos con su estilo de metal sinfónico, en su mayoría sencillo, y en su álbum debut, Reflections of a Nightmare!

Everytime

 

Explosiva, rápida y atmosférica, una entrada pesada y melódica, la combinación de voces les da aún más la atmosfera melancólica, voces graves y matices oscuros.

 

Nightchild

 

Otra entrada fuerte y rápida, la combinación de voces está plasmada y ejecutada, la atmosfera goth que tiene le otorga esa variabilidad en sonidos, aunque al final se queda la canción algo vacía. 

 

The Maze

 

Una entrada un poco diferente de teclados, con un sonido y ritmo como al inicio del álbum, la voz de Seraina se escucha un poco diferente más clara y suave! Una canción más continúa y limpia en sonidos con mayor exposición de voz de la cantante.

 

Incomplete

 

Una canción más lenta, densa y oscura, eso me agrada bastante, se puede escuchar mayor el manejo de instrumentos como la batería/guitarras densas, las voces le dan mayor presencia musical con mayor armonía y melancolía.

 

Prologue

 

Excelente prologo! Instrumental en su mayor exposición, la parte atmosférica del álbum si así lo podemos describir.

Densa y fuerte entrada de batería integrada con esas guitarras, un ritmo con tiempos pausados pero sin dejar un ritmo y velocidad continua, un poco el final algo apresurado para terminar.

 

Falling With A Crown

 

Los sonidos de muchas de estas entradas son semejantes sin perder en velocidad o armonía eso está bien hecho y plasmado en algunas de las canciones del álbum, aquí escuchamos más los guturales Christian con una melodía pesada oscura y melancólica.

 

Little Red

 

Me agrada la fuerza que tiene esta canción por momentos, contundencia y más estructurada con la combinación de voces e instrumentos musicales, con un final más determinado, desde la entrada es un poco diferente a lo que estábamos escuchando desde el inicio.

 

In Flames

 

Una entrada más fuerte y determinada, una canción con mayor presencia y fuerza, la voz de Seraina se mantiene en un rango suave y bajo, aquí la parte musical es la más representativa y bien manejada.

 

Unireverse

 

Y ya para cerrar este súper álbum nos dejan esta última canción con mayor armonía en la entrada y melódica, con mayor energía y más clara, la hermosa voz de Seraina con esplendida cobertura y ejecución.

 

Mi Recomendación

 

Esta banda de Suiza hizo un gran trabajo, además de extenso, una buena combinación de sonidos y estilos, Góticos en todo el álbum, Oscuros y modernos con un Dark Metal por el uso de electrónica que acompañaba un poco a ciertas canciones, creo que es un Goth con estilo a la vieja escuela como Teatro de la Tragedia por ejemplo, entre Metal Sinfónico y Operístico por el manejo vocal de Seraina,  Las canciones del álbum "Reflections Of A Nightmare" se encuentran principalmente en tiempos medios a rápidos, como en el inicio muy enérgico de "Everytime" y el final de "Unireverse", pasando por una parte ambiental totalmente, El sonido de los suizos y las partes de guitarra con teclados se equilibran mucho entre sí. Los guturales incorporados del guitarrista Christian Geissmann hacen bastante el contraste muy agradable junto con la clara voz de Seraina, los rasgos operísticos son notables pero debería haber sido un poco más contundentes y representativos en algunas de las notas más altas o en los pasajes bajos aun resaltar un poco más, por momentos la música no hace que sobresalga la voz de Seraina. Musicalmente está bien aunque el sonido es similar en algunas de las pistas pero es un buen trabajo hecho y original.

 

La Voz

 

Tiene hermosa tesitura Seraina, clara y suave, con un rango muy bien plasmado el cual se escucha en todo el álbum, no cambia en ritmo, al contrario en ciertas notas aumenta su falsete para igualar a la pista musical y hace un buen contraste junto al gutural de Christian Geissmann.
