Aspidium is Kurt "Jason" Kelderer’s personal project that combines lyrics in German oriented towards social criticism with a musical proposal focused on black and death metal. Harmagedon's second album will be released on April 18, 2020.

Harmagedon:

 

This eponymous song from the second album by Aspidium is characterized by presenting aggressive and melodic musical chords at the same time. The voice of Kurt "Jason" Kelderer denote a feeling of fury at the different natural and social phenomena that have occurred on our planet in recent times. Harmagedon describes this feeling of chaos and destruction through music.

 

Welt vorm Kollaps:

 

With an introduction to the rhythm of the drums, this song aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact that is affecting our planet in recent times. Kurt "Jason" Kelderer performs in a more melodic throaty voice and becomes more aggressive as this song progresses. The guitar chords also show this melodic side that blends seamlessly with the power of the drums.

 

Gleichschritt Marsch:

 

The third song on this album shows a musical orientation towards black metal with some melodic elements. The criticism made in this song revolves around the power and manipulation of the masses, as well as the negative impacts that this causes. The instrumental part of this song generates a feeling of change and uncertainty, adding more drama to this melody.

 

Tödliche Begierde:

​

With a much darker instrumentation compared to previous songs coupled with vocal performance attached to the roots of black metal, Tödliche Begierde approaches from a psychological perspective the motivations generated in people to create chaos and destruction in today's society, which in Recent times has been terrorism. This is one of the most complex songs on a lyrical level that Aspidium has presented on this album.

 

Scheinwelt:

 

This song returns to the melodic chords of the guitar, the aggressiveness of the drums and some orchestral elements that add more drama to this musical proposal. Scheinwelt portrays a utopia that in economic terms is called growth and that supposes an improvement in our quality of life, however, the same song stands out in German and very forcefully: nichts ist wie es scheint (nothing is what it seems) .

 

Elegie:

 

Taking up the elements that characterize symphonic death metal, Elegie describes a feeling of uncertainty in human beings regarding the economic, political and social situation. With a more melodic load in the execution of the guitars an atmosphere is created dominated by the feelings of melancholy and sadness.

 

Falscher Prophet:

 

This song starts from a political-religious perspective describing those people who appear to be noble but who really hide other interests behind them. Kurt "Jason" Kelderer's performance is presented as a form of protest employing an aggressive and powerful throaty voice.

 

Monochrom:

 

It is the last song on this album whose music sticks to the roots of black metal illustrates an atmosphere characterized by change and uncertainty based on the political and social context that has been described throughout the album. In some parts of this song you can hear a change of sound referring to a series of more melodic chords.

 

Comments and recommendation:

 

Aspidium has presented a dark and melodic album that illustrates a reality that is not foreign to us. Kurt "Jason" Kelderer shows a more critical facet in this project that recovers the essence of black and European death metal, it is a proposal worth listening to if you like this musical genre.

Esta canción homónima del segundo álbum de Aspidium se caracteriza por presentar acordes musicales agresivos y melódicos al mismo tiempo. Las voces de Kurt "Jason" Kelderer denotan un sentimiento de furia ante los diferentes fenónemos naturales y sociales que se han presentado en nuestro planeta en los últimos tiempos. Harmagedon describe esta sensación de caos y destrucción a través de la música.

 

Welt vorm Kollaps:

 

Con una introducción al ritmo de la batería, esta canción pretende concientizarnos sobre el impacto ambiental que está afectando a nuestro planeta en tiempos recientes. Kurt "Jason" Kelderer interpreta con una voz gutural más melódica y se torna con mayor agresividad a medida que avanza esta canción. Los acordes de la guitarra también muestran este lado melódico que combina a la perfección con la potencia de la batería.

 

Gleichschritt Marsch:

 

La tercera canción de este álbum muestra una orientación musical hacia el black metal con algunos elementos melódicos. La crítica que se realiza en esta canción gira en torno al poder y la manipulación de las masas, así como los impactos negativos que ello ocasiona. La parte instrumental de esta canción genera una sensación de cambio e incertidumbre aportándole mayor dramatismo a esta melodía.

 

Tödliche Begierde:

 

Con una instrumentación mucho más oscura a comparación de canciones anteriores aunado a la interpretación vocal apegada a las raíces del black metal, Tödliche Begierde aborda desde una perspectiva psicológica las motivaciones generadas en las personas para crear caos y destrucción en la sociedad actual, lo que en tiempos recientes ha sido el terrorismo. Esta es una de las canciones de mayor complejidad a nivel lírico que ha presentado Aspidium en este álbum.

 

Scheinwelt:

 

Esta canción regresa a los acordes melódicos de la guitarra, la agresividad de la batería y algunos elementos orquestales que le añaden mayor dramatismo a esta propuesta musical. Scheinwelt retrata una utopía que en términos económicos se le denomina crecimiento y que supone una mejora en nuestra calidad de vida, sin embargo, la misma canción destaca en alemán y de forma muy contundente: nichts ist wie es scheint (nada es lo que parece).

 

Elegie:

 

Retomando los elementos que caracteriza al death metal sinfónico, Elegie describe un sentimiento de incertidumbre en los seres humanos ante la situación económica, política y social. Con una carga más melódica en la ejecución de las guitarras se crea una atmósfera dominada por los sentimientos de melancolía y tristeza.

 

Falscher Prophet:

 

Esta canción parte de una perspectiva político-religiosa describiendo a aquellos personas que aparentan ser nobles pero que realmente esconden detrás de ellos otro tipo de intereses. La interpretación de Kurt "Jason" Kelderer se presenta como forma de protesta empleando una voz gutural agresiva y potente.

 

Monochrom:

 

Es la última canción de este álbum cuya música se apega a las raíces del black metal ilustra una atmósfera caracterizada por el cambio y la incertidumbre en función al contexto político social que se ha ido describiendo a lo largo de álbum de larga duración. En algunas partes de esta canción se puede escuchar un cambio de sonido aludiendo a una serie de acordes más melódicos.

 

Comentarios y recomendación:

 

Aspidium ha presentado un álbum oscuro y melódico que ilustra una realidad que no es ajena a nosotros. Kurt "Jason" Kelderer muestra una faceta más crítica en este proyecto que recupera la esencia del black y el death metal europeo, es una propuesta que vale la pena escuchar si te gusta este género musical.
