Official Info

 

Jef Jaeger and Leon Schendel started the band in Appleton, Wisconsin as Rape in late 1987 with Paul Jaeger playing bass. Bryan Jaeger replaced Paul in 1988 and the band changed it's name to Apocalypse. The band relocated to Milwaukee in 1989 and added Brian DeNeffe as vocalist. They changed it's name to Viogression and recorded the "Perception Blur" demo in December 1989. Their second demo, "Execution", was recorded in March 1990. Eric Johnston was added as a second guitar player shortly after, and in May of 1990 Barry Jaeger replaced Jef Jaeger on drums, who went on to join Morta Skuld.

 

In 1994, Brian DeNeffe, Bryan Jaeger, Dave Haley, and Barry Jaeger formed Medusa Oblongada and recorded a self-titled album, released through Megalithic Records in 1995. Ed Lockerman later joined them.

A heavy and atmospheric start in the old school style with a constant mix of riffs, the brutal version of classic death metal.

 

Under The Riverbed

 

With a slow pace, heavy and dense drums, having a dramatic and brutal impact, the song changes to powerful tempos with intense and brutal heavy riffs.

 

Death Dive

 

Dark and brutal atmospheric sounds, slow tempos with frequent blast beats driven by strong riffs.

 

3 Skulls y From Dust

 

A start with speed and heaviness riffs and other slow ones with the start of the drums as it marks the rhythm and step in From Dust, with that death metal style and atmospheric hooks, including lead guitars, the drum performance is perfect.

 

Caliginous Conflagration

 

Strange and dark atmospheric sounds, which then start with powerful, hard and fast blast beats.

 

Murder

 

Kicking off with gritty high key slow tempos and slow punchy drums that find a perfect balance between high tempos and slower tempos, the mix of drums and bass intertwine with the brutal riffs that are noticeable.

 

Sisters of Iris/ Taurion

 

A shattering start of bells tolling in doom metal style, with slow-tempo drums and slow doom riffs with gloomy, dense, dark tremolos, later combining clean guitars and imposing solos that close with a bass solo.

 

Blood Stained Path

 

Power from the beginning with the line of guitars, heavy, hard and powerful, slow and long rhythms as in some previous songs, but later being a little faster.

 

Cipher

 

A totally acoustic song at the beginning accompanied by heavy, brutal chords with an assault on the riff in clean guitar textures adding the melodic part of death metal.

 

Memory Ever After

 

Closing acoustically, lightly and cleanly.

 

My Recomendation

 

The death metal band from Wisconsin, with their third full-length album "3rd Stage of Decay", has and leaves us an album with its own style of classic Death Metal with that American style, brutal, raw, strong, somewhere between slow and heavy, which reminds us of classic bands like Morbid Angel, Death, Pestilence, etc… The songs on the album have a slow old school frame with incredible guitar chords, that line is super dense, the blast beats with good forcefulness and heaviness with loud and suffocating voices, which at times cannot be distinguished,

But overall it's a heavy, hard, classic and rewarding album! Hard with a genuine Death Metal! Combining a little doom metal that gives it even more hardness, good return of the band.

 Jef Jaeger y Leon Schendel comenzaron la banda en Appleton, Wisconsin como Rape a fines de 1987 con Paul Jaeger tocando el bajo. Bryan Jaeger reemplazó a Paul en 1988 y la banda cambió su nombre a Apocalypse. La banda se mudó a Milwaukee en 1989 y agregó a Brian DeNeffe como vocalista. Cambiaron su nombre a Viogression y grabaron el demo "Perception Blur" en diciembre de 1989. Su segundo demo, "Execution", fue grabado en marzo de 1990. Eric Johnston fue agregado como segundo guitarrista poco después, y en mayo de 1990 Barry Jaeger reemplazó a Jef Jaeger en la batería, quien se unió a Morta Skuld.

Un inicio pesado y atmosférico con el estilo de la vieja escuela con un mezclado constante de riffs, la versión brutal del death metal clásico.

 

Under The Riverbed

 

Con un ritmo lento, batería pesada y densa, teniendo un impacto dramático y brutal, la canción cambia a tempos poderosos con riffs intensos y pesados brutales.

 

Death Dive

Sonidos atmosféricos tétricos y brutales, tempos lentos con ritmos explosivos frecuentes impulsados por riffs fuertes.

 

3 Skulls y From Dust

 

Un inicio con velocidad y pesadez riffs y otras las lentas con el inicio de la batería como marca el ritmo y paso en From Dust, con ese estilo death metal y ganchos atmosféricos, incluidas las guitarras solistas, el rendimiento de la batería es perfecta.

 

Caliginous Conflagration

 

Sonidos atmosféricos extraños y oscuros, que después arrancan con blast beats potentes, duros y rápidos.

 

Murder

 

Arrancando con tempos lentos en tonos altos y ásperos y la batería entre lenta y contundente que se encuentra un equilibrio perfecto entre los tempos de altos y los tempos más lentos, la mezcla de la batería y el bajo se entrelazan con los brutales riffs notables.

 

Sisters of Iris/ Taurion

 

Un inicio estremecedor de campanas que doblan con el estilo doom metal, con una batería con ritmo lento y riffs doom lentos con trémolos sombríos, densos y oscuros posteriormente combinando guitarras limpias y solos imponentes que cierran con un solo de bajo.

 

Blood Stained Path

 

Potencia desde el inicio con la línea de guitarras, pesadas, duras y potentes, ritmos lentos y largos como en algunas canciones anteriores, pero después siendo un poco más rápidos.

 

Cipher

 

Una canción totalmente acústica al inicio acompañada con acordes pesados, brutales con asalto del riff en texturas limpias de guitarra agregando la parte melodica del death metal.

 

Memory Ever After

 

Cerrando de manera acústica, ligera y limpia.

 

Mi Recomendación

 

La banda de death metal de Wisconsin, con su tercer álbum de larga duración "3rd Stage of Decay", tiene y nos deja un albúm con un estilo propio del clásico Death Metal con ese estilo estadounidense, brutal, crudo, fuerte, entre lento y pesado, que nos recuerda a las bandas clásicas como Morbid Angel, Death, Pestilence, etc…  Las canciones del álbum tienen un marco lento a la vieja escuela con increíbles acordes de guitarras, esa línea esta súper densa, los blast beats con buena contundencia y pesadez con voces fuertes y sofocantes, que por momentos no se distingue,

Pero en general es un albúm pesado, duro, clásico y gratificante! Duro con un Death Metal genuino! Combinando un poco el Doom metal que le da aun mayor dureza, buen regreso de la banda.
