Greetings, my friends! We continue in this super universe of Metal! this occasion talk with my friend and singer, Berenice Musa of the Spanish 'Tears of Martyr' band!

A little biography of the band!

TEARS OF MARTYR started back in the late nineties in the Canary Islands (Spain). At that time the band had clearly a doom death flavor but they already showed the key elements that can be easily identified nowadays, like the distinctive use of lead voices and classical orchestration arrangements to create their songs.

Despite of being in a very restricted scene the band kept growing and earned respect from the national media and his local fan base. They recorded a couple of demos and appeared in several compilations and they had the chance to open for international bands like Dark Tranquillity, To Die-For or Swallow the Sun.

Greetings my friends, it's a pleasure to hear from you and my dear friend Berenice!

How have you been guys from ''Tears of Martyr''?

Hello Darkzen! We are very well and very pleased to answer your questions.

Berenice, it's a pleasure to hear from you. Tell me, What have you done so far in this year?

Apparently it hasn't happened much but actually we have been working very hard to be able to finish the shows and more projects that will come to light soon. Personally i like to take advantage of these deadlocks to have a technically retrain of myself.

I've been preparing auditions and finishing show dates.

Berenice, What has been your musical and vocal training? Please tell us a little about yourself.

I started my studies of classical singing in The Professional Conservatory of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain) and afterwards at Codarts (Rotterdam, Holland), in which i finally got my degree in classical music with a majoring in singing.

I have improved with private teachers and i've participated on courses of vocal technique, interpretation and singing competitions.

I've had the lucky of be able to mix two of my passions, my career as soprano of classical music and as lead singer of Tears of Martyr since the last 16 years.

Berenice, Which one are your influences? like bands and vocalists

Since i have use of reason music has been with me and It has been a constant feature my life.

The music that has been with me it's my influence as a person and as a musician i like wide variety of styles and music, i don't close to anything.

What do you do offstage? What are your hobbies and other projects?

I like to spend most of my time with my family.

I love to travel, i like any kind of art, gastronomy, go to the movies, literature, have good conversations and of course, to spend time with good friends.

The other band members, please tell us a little about your hobbies and musical influences.

MIGUEL: Talking about music, i've been listening to ''Animals as leaders'' and I like its atmosphere, it's very interesting.

The truth is that i don't like to listen only metal music and It may sound mystical but i think that we as the people living on the planet we are exposed to a particular sound spectrum.

Any kind of sound who are around us, is already influencing us. Even more with the fast rhythm of life.

ADRIAN: My hobbies are video games, tattoos, painting, drawing, go to the movies and o course, playing and composing music metal. My influences are all kind of metal music, pop of the eighties and classical music.

DORAMAS: My hobbies are take a walk, listening good music and watching movies.

My musical influences are many, since rock of the seventies and eighties till the most extreme black metal. Every moment has its music.

What can you tell us about your last álbum "Tales"¿How was the acceptance on your country?

We are happy and grateful for the positive reviews of the álbum, not only in our country but also in other foreign media. The acceptance was excellent!

Who is the writer of the lyrics? How is the process of writing and capture the passion at the recording process?

Miguel is who writes the lyrics of the songs, so he will answer these questions.

MIGUEL: Tears of heaven is a band who has always gone hand in hand with lyrics.

They are two indivisible parts that complement each other.

The lyrics and stories of Tears of Martyr are about human beings and their emotions.

These are the real stars of our songs and of dual form feelings like:

Love and hate, hope and hopelessness, sadness and fleeting joy.

We are always struggling with a roller coaster of emotions. This ''emotional fission'' can convey our maximum possible energy. If we can reach the listener, our mission is complete. I have always been fascinated play with words and try to capture on lyrics the images that i see when i'm writing. Be able of telling these stories it has been the most important thing for me from the beginning. I love filmmaking, horror literature, the mystery of the occult and uncertain things and metaphysics.

I like that everything is in harmony with these themes and i get inspiration for the lyrics of the songs.

A big question for you guys, there will be a new álbum? It will be like the last álbum?

Yes, we are already composing our next álbum and in my humble opinion, i think is too early to know if it will be like our last álbum.

But i can tell you that what is being forged, it looks good.

What is the essence of Tears of Martyr? What do you want to convey?

The essence of Tears of Martyr remains unchanged since the beginning. There is a phrase that perfectly express the foundations and concept of the universe of Tears of Martyr:

''The tears of the ones who choose to die or to be tortured rather than to give up a belief''

From this phrase that everyone draw their own interpretations and conclusions.

Will there be new projects soon?

There are always projects but i can't reveal something about them

Will there be some video clip of the last álbum?

We like to say that all songs of Tears of Martyr deserves a video clip.

Because every song has a story in itself.

From the launch of '' Tales '' and recording the video clip '' Golem '' We were looking forward to a second video clip.

I can't reveal more but stay tuned! in the near future there will be a huge surprise.

When will you return to Aztec land? Will there be some tour in Europe?

We keep fond memories of our tour México and we're hoping to repeat it but there is not a date yet.

We hope it will be sooner rather than later.

In may 2016 we're going for a Tour in Europe, we will play in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Switzerland. Also several festivals in the summer.

It is already confirmed our presentation at ''MetalHead Meeting Festival'' which will take place at Bucharest (Romania) the next june.

Is there anything have not asked you before and want to tell us?

Saludos mis amigos! seguimos en este súper universo del Metal! esta ocasión hable con una amiga y cantante, Berenice Musa de la banda Española 'Tears of Martyr'

Un poco de la biografía de la banda!

TEARS OF MARTYR comenzó a finales de los años noventa en las Islas Canarias (España). En ese momento la banda tenía un sabor claramente Death Doom pero ya mostraba los elementos clave que pueden ser fácilmente identificados en la actualidad, al igual que el uso distintivo de las voces pesadas y arreglos de orquestación clásica para crear sus canciones.

A pesar de estar en una escena muy restringida la banda siguió creciendo y se ganó el respeto de los medios de comunicación nacionales y su base de fans local. Grabaron un par de demos y apareció en varias compilaciones y tuvieron la oportunidad de abrir para bandas internacionales como Dark Tranquillity, To Die-For or Swallow the Sun.

¿Cómo han estado amigos de Tears of Martyr?

Hola Darkzen! Nosotros estamos todos muy bien , encantada de poder  responder a tus preguntas.

Berenice un gusto saber de ti ¿Que ha sido de ti en lo que va del año cuéntanos?

Aunque aparentemente pueda parecer que no ha sucedido mucho últimamente, lo cierto es que hemos estado trabajando muy duro para poder cerrar conciertos y otros proyectos que verán la luz muy pronto. Yo personalmente aprovecho estos impases para reciclarme un poco técnicamente y más concretamente he estado preparando audiciones y cerrando programas y fechas de conciertos.

Berenice ¿Cuál ha sido tu formación musical y vocal? Un poco de tu historia!

Empecé mis estudios de canto clásico en el Conservatorio Profesional de Gran Canaria (Islas Canarias, España). Posteriormente estudié en Codarts (Rotterdam, Holanda) donde obtuve mi licenciatura en música clásica en le especialidad de canto. Después he seguido perfeccinando con profesores particulares y repertoristas, participando en cursos de técnica vocal e interpretación y presentándome a concursos de canto. He tenido la gran suerte de poder compaginar mi carrera como soprano de música clásica con mi otra pasión, que es el metal , como cantante de Tears of Martyr durante aproximadamente los últimos 16 años.

Berenice ¿Cuáles son tus influencias, grupos o vocalistas que te hayan influido? O hay algunos que aun influyan en ti?

Desde que tengo uso de razón la música me ha acompañado de una u otra manera y siempre ha sido una constante en mi vida. Supongo que toda la música que he escuchado ha supuesto una influencia en lo que soy como persona y músico a día de hoy. Me gusta una amplia variedad de estilos y músicos, no me cierro a nada.

Berenice ¿A qué te dedicas fuera de los escenarios, hobbies o proyectos?

Principialmemte a mi familia. Además me encanta viajar, me apasiona el arte en cualquiera de sus manifestaciones, la gastronomía , ir al cine, la literatura, una buena conversación y pasar  ratos agradables con grandes amigos.

¿Y los demás miembros de la banda? Que nos pueden decir cada uno, de sus hobbies he influencias musicales?

Miguel: "En lo referente a la música, últimamente estoy escuchando algo más "Animals as Leaders", las atmósferas que exponen me parecen muy interesantes. Pero la verdad es que no me centro en escuchar estrictamente Metal y sin pretender sonar muy místico… creo que como habitantes de este planeta estamos expuestos a un determinado espectro sonoro y cualquier sonido que nos rodee ya nos está influyendo de una manera u otra. Más aun quizás con lo rápido que se mueve todo hoy en día."

Adrián : “Mis hobbies van desde los videojuegos hasta los tatuajes, pintar, dibujar, ver películas, y por supuesto tocar y componer metal, mis influencias acaparan todo tipo de metal, pop ochentero y un poco de música clásica.”

Doramas : “Pues mis hobbies son pasear, escuchar buena música y el cine / series. Mis influencias musicales son muy variadas abarcando desde el rock de los 70´80´ hasta el black metal más extremo, cada momento tiene su música \m/.”

¿Que nos puedes decir de su Álbum "Tales" que tal fue la aceptación de este álbum en su país?

Estamos muy contentos y satisfechos porque en general Tales ha recibido críticas muy positivas, no sólo en nuestro país, también en muchos medios extranjeros la aceptación del disco fue buenísima.

Quien es el escritor de la lírica de las canciones? Como es el trabajo para escribir y plasmar esa pasión al grabar?

Miguel es el encargado de escribir las letras de los temas, así que creo que nadie mejor que él para contestar a estas preguntas.

Miguel: "Tears of Martyr es una banda donde siempre la música ha ido muy estrechamente de la mano de la lírica (y viceversa). Son dos partes indivisibles que tratamos que se complementen de la mejor forma posible. Principalmente las letras y las historias de Tears of Martyr giran en torno al ser humano y a sus emociones. Éstas son las verdaderas protagonistas que dan pie a nuestras canciones y aquí entran en juego de forma dual los sentimientos, como el amor y el desamor, la esperanza y la falta de la misma, la tristeza y la efímera alegría... siempre luchando y alternándose en una suerte de montaña rusa de emociones. Es esta especie de "fisión emocional" lo que quizás hace que nuestras canciones transmitan la máxima energía posible. Si conseguimos llegar así al oyente, nuestra misión está mas que cumplida.

Personalmente siempre me ha apasionado jugar con las palabras y tratar de plasmar en las letras los flashes de imágenes que percibo al escribir. El qué contar, ha tenido una importancia muy grande para mi desde el comienzo. Me apasiona la cinematografía, la literatura de terror, el misterio de lo oculto e incierto y la metafísica, por lo que todo lo que esté en sintonía con estos temas me inspira también a escribir nuestras canciones."

Una gran pregunta, hay preparativos de un nuevo álbum? ¿Sera semejante al álbum pasado ‘Tales’?

Sí, ya estamos componiendo lo que será el próximo disco y en mi modesta opinión creo que aún es pronto para poder determinar si se asemejará a Tales o no, pero te puedo decir que lo que se está forjando pinta muy bien!

¿Cuál es la esencia de Tears of Martyr, que nos quieren compartir hoy en día en este 2016?

La esencia de Tears of Martyr permanece inalterable desde los inicios de la banda. Hay una cita que resume a la perfección los fundamentos sobre los que se cimenta la temática y el concepto del universo de Tears of Martyr :

"The tears of the ones who choose to die or to be tortured

rather than to give up a belief"

A partir de esta frase que cada uno saque su propia interpretación y conclusiones.

¿Hay nuevos proyectos en puerta? Cómo cuáles?

Siempre hay proyectos en la recámara pero ninguno del que se pueda revelar nada a día de hoy.

¿Habrá algún nuevo video clip del pasado álbum o será una sorpresa del nuevo álbum?

Como nos gusta decir a nosotros cuatro todas las canciones de Tears of Martyr son merecedoras de un video clip, porque cada una de ellas es una historia en sí misma. Es cierto que tras el lanzamiento de Tales y la grabación del video clip de Golem nos quedamos con ganas de un segundo video clip. No puedo desvelar mucho más , sólo decir que estéis atentos, porque en un futuro cercano habrá una enorme sorpresa!!

¿Cuándo los volveremos a tener en tierras Aztecas? ¿Algún nuevo Tour en Europa?

Guardamos un recuerdo entrañable de nuestra gira por México y estamos deseando repertir aunque aún no hay una fecha clara. Esperamos que sea más pronto que tarde!

De momento en Mayo de 2016  nos vamos de tour por Europa, tocaremos en Bélgica Holanda, Alemania, Polonia, Republica Checa y Suiza, además de varios festivales en verano. Ya está confrmada nuestra participación en el Metalhead Meeting Fetsival que se celebrará en Junio en Bucarest (Rumania) y en breve anunciaremos algunos más.

¿Algo que no les hayan preguntado antes y quieran decirnos?
