Hardland is a Dutch band of alternative melodic metal that shows in their sound a remarkable influence towards bands of the decade of the 70's and 80's. Last year they presented their second studio album entitled "In Control." In comparsion of their debut album, In Control have a heavier sound denotes the musical maturity of the band.

The Nation’s Biggest Enemies

This song is one of the promotional singles of this album where the band shows their capacity at instrumental and vocal level by presenting a fusion of musical styles such as rock and rap characteristic of the 80's, this style fits well with the lyrics of the song that addresses the political and social situation that is experienced worldwide.

Are Friends Electric?

This song is taken from the original by Gary Numan & Tubeway Army. This version presents a heavier sound and the synthesizers are made the brilliant performance of the guitars and bass. The atmosphere that creates the song through music moves us to the 70's.

The Powers Within

The presence of the synthesizers is present in this song with a rock fusion with some melodic and progressive elements whose chords denote an influence of Arabic sounds creating an interesting mix of listening. The voice of Paul Evers brings more drama to the song.

Rise and Shine

One of the musical influences that the band has cited as a determinant in their musical style is power pop and this song is a clear example of this. A combination of synthesizers and rock and roll that will want to make you dance and sing to the rhythm of the music. An original way of mixing the past with the present in musical terms.

Haunted

The introduction of this song reminds the classic horror movies through the scream of a woman when she met the monster in which through the guitar riffs and in the company of the voice of Aeilko Venema with an influence of the rock of the The 80's presents a story characterized by suspense.

Dazzled by the Presence of Love

This rock ballad presents a powerful and rhythmic start. The vocal part is played with different technological resources creating a melodic and modern voice timbre. This song is one of the most complete and versatile melodies throughout the album.

Love love love

The use of the accordion takes us to one of the most romantic places par excellence: Paris. As a serenade and by the hand of the voice of Paul Evers he tells us the stage of falling in love as if it were a trip through the streets of this French capital.

Pleasure and Pain

Aeilko Venema's samples are back in combination with a sound that has influences from the music scene of the 70's and 80's. This song is also accompanied by the voice of Paul Evers creating an interesting combination that will attract the attention of the listener.

Still dreaming

This song emulates the chords of classical rock where the organ is present. The vocal part stands out for the use of sharp notes that overflow energy and intensity. The guitar riffs that appear in the middle of the song announce a change in the sound becoming more aggressive in which some guitar solos are included accompanied by the keyboard.

Last Goodbye

The beginning of this song emulates a symphony orchestra recreated through the keyboard, which moves upward and triggers in a series of choir-shaped voices. With influences from classic rock, as well as the power pop of the late 70's and early 80's, Hardland demonstrates its creative ability by experimenting with different musical genres creating an interesting proposal.

Recommendation

It is difficult to define this Dutch band within a specific musical genre because the diversity of sounds presented in this album is a different universe in each of their songs.  Hardland shows his creativity fused the chords of classic rock with the synthesizer and keyboards creating an interesting proposal that will keep you attentive to each of their songs.

Hardland es una banda holandesa de metal melódico alternativo que muestra en su sonido una notable influencia hacia bandas de la década de los 70’s y 80’s. El año pasado presentaron su segundo álbum de estudio titulado “In Control”. A diferencia de su álbum debut, In Control muestra un sonido más pesado que denota la madurez musical de la banda.

The Nation’s Biggest Enemies

Esta canción es uno de los sencillos promocionales de este álbum donde la banda da muestra de su capacidad a nivel instrumental y vocal al presentar una fusión de estilos musicales como el rock y rap característico de la década de los 80’s, este estilo encaja bien con la letra de la canción que aborda la situación política y social que se vive a nivel mundial.

Are Friends Electric?

Esta canción se retoma de la original de Gary Numan & Tubeway Army. Esta versión presenta un sonido más pesado y los sintetizadores son realizados la brillante ejecución de las guitarras y el bajo. La atmósfera que crea la canción a través de la música nos traslada a la década de los 70’s.

The Powers Within

La presencia de los sintetizadores se hace presente en esta canción con una fusión rock con algunos elementos melódicos y progresivos cuyos acordes denotan una influencia de sonidos árabes creando una mezcla interesante de escuchar. La voz de Paul Evers le aporta mayor dramatismo la canción.

Una de las influencias musicales que ha citado la banda como una determinante en su estilo musical es el power pop y esta canción es una clara muestra de ello. Una combinación entre sintetizadores y rock and roll que querrán hacerte bailar y cantar al ritmo de la música. Una forma original de mezclar el pasado con el presente en términos musicales.

Haunted

La introducción de esta canción recuerda a las películas de terror clásico a través del grito de una mujer al encontrase con el monstruo en la que a través de los riffs de guitarra y en compañía de la voz de Aeilko Venema con una influencia del rock de la década de los 80’s nos presenta una historia caracterizada por el suspenso.

Dazzled by the Presence of Love

Esta balada rock presenta un inicio potente y rítmico. En la parte vocal se juega con diferentes recursos tecnológicos creando un timbre de voz melódico y moderno. Esta canción constituye una de las melodías más completas y versátiles a lo largo del disco.

Love Love Love

El empleo del acordeón nos traslada a uno de los lugares más románticos por excelencia: París. A manera de serenata y de la mano de la voz de Paul Evers nos narra la etapa del enamoramiento como si se trata de un viaje a través de las calles de esta capital francesa.

Los sampleos de Aeilko Venema están de vuelta en combinación con un sonido que presenta influencias de la escena musical de la década de los 70’s y 80’s. En esta canción también se acompaña de la voz de Paul Evers creando una combinación interesante que llamará la atención del oyente.

Still Dreaming

Esta canción emula los acordes al rock clásico donde el órgano hace acto de presencia. La parte vocal destaca por el empleo de notas agudas que desbordan energía e intensidad. Los riffs de guitarra que se presentan a media canción anuncian un cambio en el sonido tornándose más agresivo en el que se incluyen algunos solos de guitarra acompañados al compás del teclado.

Last Goodbye

El comienzo de esta canción emula a una orquesta sinfónica recreada a través del teclado, que avanza de forma ascendente y desencadena en una serie de voces en forma de coro. Con influencias del rock clásico, así como del power pop de finales de los 70’s y principios de los 80’s, Hardland demuestra su capacidad creativa al experimentar con diferentes géneros musicales creando una propuesta interesante.

Recomendación

Es difícil definir a esta banda holandesa dentro de un género musical en específico pues la diversidad de sonidos que presenta en este álbum es un universo distinto en cada una de sus canciones. Hardland da muestra de su creatividad fusionado los acordes del rock clásico con el sintetizador y los teclados creando una propuesta interesante que te mantendrá atento a cada una de sus canciones.
