A true visionary is a rare thing, but such a man is Josh Dummer exemplified in his solo studio project Buried Realm. Influenced by personal experience and executed through metaphors, the progressive and heavy metal leaves room for interpretation and paints an interesting picture for listeners.

Following up on his long time idea of releasing a solo album, he seized the chance with his first offering “Ichor Carcinoma”. Released in 2017 it features guests such as Christopher Amott (Arch Enemy, Armageddon), Peter Wichers (Soilwork), Teemu Mäntysaari (Wintersun) and Travis Montgomery (Threat Signal, Jeff Loomis band).

Inspired by Opeth, Kreator, Old Man’s Child, Symphony X (and tons of old Hair Metal!), Dummer is a man who is not afraid to gaze into the abyss for music and lyrical inspiration. He describes Buried Realm’s music as ‘fierce, cutting, technical, melodic, and memorable.’ The studio project represents a hidden dimension within himself where the ‘buried disputes’ of his life are confronted only through music; where he can express musical ideas without compromising.

Buried Realm is a solo studio project, hatched from the mind of Josh Dummer. It is the second album he has put out under that moniker and once again he has written an epic, creative record filled not only with his own talent, but also with that of a smorgasbord of special guests from around the world that includes Andy Gillion (Mors Principium Est), Benjamin Ellis (Scar Symmetry), Bob Katsionis (ex-Firewind), Dean Arnold (Operus, ex-Vital Remains), Lee McKinney (Born of Osiris), Peter Wichers (ex-Soilwork), Rafael Trujillo (ex-Obscura) and Ryan Strain (Chaos For The Masses).

Dummer comments on the album:

"After nearly three years of creating ‘Embodiment of the Divine,’ I am very pleased to present and share this album with everyone. I’m honored to be joined by a number of guests that have influenced my writing and playing over the years. Their contributions have truly helped bring the album to another level. There's a whole lot of riffs, solos and melody. The album has its traditional arrangements at times, but is also built on technical and chaotic grounds. Everything is written and recorded by me with the exception of the guests. I think the overall atmosphere of this album is darker compared to the previous one. The general message I'm trying to convey is about accepting a need for change by disconnecting from things (certain environments, people, parts of yourself) that can no longer serve you and keep you from evolving. Even through disconnecting though, these things still find ways of haunting you."

Chord from the beginning combative and strong! Here maybe a bit of Thrash, Fast and aggressive, that I love about an album within this style with power in all the songs, guitars and drums sound like knives, he one and the other.

Super entry even faster! Beastly riffs and very fast tempos with short and sharp notes, that blast beat gives it more body at the moment of climax, and the combination of voices is very original.

Excellent chords and Riffs from the beginning, fast, very melodic I think it is a word that I must emphasize, without a doubt it is a good musical work, with perfect harmony between the tempos of the instruments and the voices, The technique of the guitar work delivered at a fast pace and well structured is perfect.

My Recomendation

Without a doubt it is a surprising album for the amount of high level musicians! Within this great style that is Death Metal, with varied styles and rhythms within metal that we can find in this album that range from Melodic Death, Technical Death, other styles such as Speed, Thrash and even Brutal Death for a few brief moments, Death Metal is one of my favorite styles but I think it is for very special tastes, not everyone likes a personal opinion, "Embodiment of The Divine" is an amazing proposal, it is well structured, no song is alike, each guest like this As each song has a different style and melody, the only thing that does not decrease is the power, on the contrary from the beginning to the end it is a very energetic and solid album.

If you are a fan of this super style of Death Metal, this is a complete album, very balanced from the tempos between the instruments to the voices that come together to give more shape to the album!

The Voices

The voices are unique, both the guttural and the growls and the clean voices make it very versatile and well coupled to the abrupt change between high and fast notes, the guttural voice gives an excellent evil and heavy touch!

Un verdadero visionario es algo raro, pero Josh Dummer ejemplifica en su proyecto de estudio en solitario Buried Realm. "Después de casi tres años de crear 'Embodiment of the Divine', estoy muy contento de presentar y compartir este álbum con todos. Me siento honrado de estar acompañado por una cantidad de invitados que han influido en mi forma de escribir y tocar a lo largo de los años. Sus contribuciones realmente han ayudado a llevar el álbum a otro nivel. Hay muchos riffs, solos y melodías. El álbum tiene sus arreglos tradicionales a veces, pero también está construido sobre bases técnicas y caóticas. Todo está escrito y grabado por mí con la excepción de los invitados. Creo que la atmósfera general de este álbum es más oscura en comparación con el anterior. El mensaje general que intento transmitir es sobre aceptar la necesidad de cambio al desconectarse de las cosas (ciertos entornos, personas, partes de ti mismo) que ya no puede servirle y evitar que evolucione. Acorde desde el inicio combativo y fuerte! Aquí quizás un poco de Thrash, Veloz y agresivo, eso me encanta de un albúm dentro de este estilo con potencia en todas las canciones, guitarras y batería suenan como navajas, él una y la otra.

Excelente velocidad desde el inicio con el cual marca el compás, ritmo pesado y muy fuerte! Un ritmo constante y acordes semejantes.

Súper entrada aun con mayor velocidad! Riffs bestiales y tempos rapidísimos con notas cortas y agudas, ese blast beat le da mayor cuerpo al momento de llegar en los momentos de clímax, y la combinación de voces es muy original.

Excelentes acordes y Riffs desde el comienzo, rápidos, muy melódicos creo que es una palabra que debo de recalcar, sin duda es un buen trabajo musical, con perfecta armonía entre los tempos de los instrumentos y las voces, La técnica del trabajo de guitarra entregado a un ritmo vertiginoso y bien estructurado es perfecto.

Woow una entrada musical electrizante, con riffs aplastantes, aún más fuerza y potencia se escucha esta pista, tempos rapidísimos y muy melódicos, pero aquí hay unos ligeros toques progresivos.

Cerrando este albúm plagado de fuerza, potencia y vitalidad! Cerrando con un sonido rápido, acordes a toda velocidad y un batería potente que ametralla tus oídos!

Mi Recomendación

Sin duda es un albúm sorprendente por la cantidad de músicos de alto nivel! Dentro de este gran estilo que es el Death Metal, con variados estilos y ritmos dentro del metal que podemos encontrar en este album que van desde el Melodic Death, Technical Death, otros estilos como claro Speed, Thrash y hasta el Brutal Death por unos breves momentos, el Death Metal es uno de mis estilos favoritos pero creo que es para gustos muy especiales, no a todos les gusta a opinión personal, "Embodiment of The Divine" es una propuesta asombrosa, está bien estructurado ninguna canción es semejante cada invitado así como cada canción tiene un estilo y melodía diferente, lo único que no decrece es la potencia, al contrario desde el inicio y hasta el final es un albúm muy enérgico y sólido.

Si eres un fan de este súper estilo de Death Metal, este es un albúm completo, muy equilibrado desde los tempos entre los instrumentos hasta las voces que se juntan para dar más forma al albúm!

Las Voces

Las voces son únicas, tanto el gutural como los gruñidos y las voces limpias lo hacen muy versátil y bien acoplado al cambio brusco entre las notas altas y rápidas, la voz gutural le da un excelente toque malvado y pesado!
