Osyron is a symphonic metal band based in Calgary, Alberta. The group consists of vocalist Reed, guitarists Krzysztof Stalmach and Bobby Harley, bassist Tyler Corbett, and drummer Cody Anstey. Bridging the gap between traditional European metal and the music of their homegrown contemporaries, Osyron has a sound all their own.

The band's origins can be traced back to Ontario, where they began under the name Morbid Theory. After releasing two demos (Chaos Breed in 2006 and Harbinger in 2010), the band underwent some changes in membership, scenery, and identity. Moving to Alberta in 2012, the group, now rechristened Osyron, re-recorded Harbinger in Calgary, and released the album in 2013.

After releasing their sophomore album, "Kingsbane", in the fall of 2017, the momentum that followed was swift. "Kingsbane" caught the attention of the European metal community - proving a favourite of audiences, critics, and radio programmers.

In 2018, Osyron released a metal cover of the Canadian national anthem, which picked up speed across the country. This patriotic theme continues into the new album “Foundations” (2020). Stemming from a perspective of Canadian identity and culture - both past and present, the new album challenges the global perspective of the great white north by retelling historical moments in an immersive and melodic manner. Speaking on topics of Canada's colonization to the mistreatment and recognition of Aboriginals to the country's participation in global warfare.

Performing alongside numerous major acts such as Norther, Protest The Hero, Into Eternity, Threat Signal, and The Agonist, Osyron's next goal is to take their sound across the Atlantic in the flesh.

The Cross

A musical entry full of chords, riffs, drums with force and high presence, slow tempos at times and somewhat long musical notes, it has a bit of medieval style and moving chorus, a lot of power in that super drums and those excellent screams to give it more drama.

Ignite

Stronger and more relaxed musical input, chords and more structured melody, we have a bit more speed on the music track, with the same force and power as the previous song and a modern metal background, it changes the tone and style of the guitar as well. .

Battle of The Thames

A sublime and atmospheric acoustic musical entrance completely, flutes and acoustic guitars in the introduction, excellent atmosphere and melody with a slow, calm rhythm and then in brief moments of drums and background chorus, it tells us a little of the history about a passage in the history of colonization.

The Ones Below

We return energetic and forceful, chords like razors and with a classic style to hard rock and with style of the 90s perhaps, for those excellent riffs and bass chords! And that progressive touch that carries over the whole song.

Foundations

Closing this EP, quiet, with presence and play of well-orchestrated acoustics, we return with an acoustic and relaxed entrance, strong and very continuous chords as in the previous songs, brief pauses and with greater weight in the musical part.

My Recomendation

It is an eclectic progressive metal, it brings together styles in sounds, acoustics, a little history of the country and forcefulness, it has blast-beats that remind us of an excellent contrast within the progressive genre, they build it slowly with long musical notes but with great force and that. it grabs you in different styles of intensity. If you want to hear something fresh in Progressive Metal this EP will catch you!

The band says:

According to the band “Foundations” is meant to be digested as an immersive exploration of Canadian history and identity, speaking on topics on the country's colonization to the mistreatment and recognition of Aboriginals to the country's participation in global warfare. Although it is not a conceptual release, it does bear a consistent theme across nearly the entirety of the record.

The band notes that this is the first album where each band member has contributed to the writing processes, which has resulted in a stronger, more refined production overall. Osyron shares their expectations for the album’s reception:

"We believe that the album will both surprise and challenge our current and new fans while still bringing back the big elements we are most known for (hooks, huge layered sections, melodies, and finger-twisting riffs, etc). We would like to think that our fans would accept this as not only the next iteration and evolution of us as a band but also as the artistic progression of the music.”

Osyron brings their high energy, fun, and engaging production to the small screen with the video for “Ignite”, which recounts Canada’s role in WWI, told from both the perspectives of Canada and the UK.

For fans of Nightwish, Dream Theater, and Wintersun; Osyron is progressive, powerful metal with a knack for engaging storytelling.

The Voice

Reed's voice is excellent, he has a bit of MetalCore, and in other songs like The Ones Below with an excellent Hard Rock style! Throughout the EP his voice fits very well with the musical changes and tempos, high or low, a style that reminds me of the great Roy Khan from Kamelot.

Osyron es una banda de metal sinfónico con sede en Calgary, Alberta. El grupo está formado por el vocalista Reed, los guitarristas Krzysztof Stalmach y Bobby Harley, el bajista Tyler Corbett y el baterista Cody Anstey. Cerrando la brecha entre el metal tradicional europeo y la música de sus contemporáneos locales, Osyron tiene un sonido propio.

Los orígenes de la banda se remontan a Ontario, donde comenzaron con el nombre de Morbid Theory. Una entrada musical llena de acordes, riffs, batería con fuerza y alta presencia, tempos lentos por momentos y notas musicales algo largas, tiene un poco de estilo medieval y coro conmovedor, mucha potencia en esa súper batería y esos gritos excelentes para darle más dramatismo.

Ignite

Entrada musical más contundente y relajada, acordes y melodía más estructurada, tenemos un poco de mayor velocidad en la pista musical, con la misma fuerza y potencia que la canción anterior y un fondo de metal moderno, cambia el tono y estilo de la guitarra también.

Battle of The Thames

Una sublime y atmosférica entrada musical acústica completamente, flautas y guitarras acústicas en la introducción excelente atmósfera y melodía con un ritmo lento, tranquilo y después en breves momentos de batería y coro de fondo, nos relata un poco de la historia sobre un pasaje en la historia de la colonización.

The Ones Below

Regresamos enérgicos y contundentes, acordes como navajas y con un estilo clásico al hard rock y con estilo de los años 90 quizás, por esos riffs excelentes y acordes de bajo! Y ese toque progresivo que sobre lleva a toda la canción.

Foundations

Cerrando este EP, tranquilo, con presencia y juego de acústicas bien orquestadas, volvemos con una entrada acústica y relajada, acordes contundentes y muy continuos como en las anteriores canciones, breves pausas y con mayor peso en la parte musical.

Mi Recomendación

Es un Metal Progresivo ecléctico, reúne estilos en sonidos, acústica, un poco de historia del país y contundencia, tiene blast-beats que nos recuerdan un excelente contraste dentro del género progresivo, lo construyen lentamente con notas musicales largas pero con mucha fuerza y eso te atrapa en diferentes estilos de intensidad. Si quieres escuchar algo fresco en Metal Progresivo este EP te atrapara!

La banda dice:

Según la banda, “Foundations” está destinado a ser digerido como una exploración inmersa de la historia y la identidad canadiense, hablando de temas desde la colonización del país hasta el maltrato y reconocimiento de los aborígenes hasta la participación del país en la guerra global. Aunque no es un lanzamiento conceptual, tiene un tema consistente en casi la totalidad del disco.

La banda señala que este es el primer álbum en el que cada miembro de la banda ha contribuido a los procesos de escritura, lo que ha resultado en una producción más sólida y refinada en general. Osyron comparte sus expectativas sobre la recepción del álbum:

"Creemos que el álbum sorprenderá y desafiará tanto a nuestros fans actuales como a los nuevos y, al mismo tiempo, traerá de vuelta los grandes elementos por los que somos más conocidos (ganchos, grandes secciones en capas, melodías y riffs que retuercen los dedos, etc.). Nos gustaría Creo que nuestros fans aceptarían esto no solo como la próxima iteración y evolución de nosotros como banda, sino también como la progresión artística de la música".

Osyron lleva su producción enérgica, divertida y atractiva a la pantalla chica con el video de "Ignite", que relata el papel de Canadá en la Primera Guerra Mundial, contado desde las perspectivas de Canadá y el Reino Unido.

Para los fanáticos de Nightwish, Dream Theater e Wintersun; Osyron es un metal progresivo y poderoso con una habilidad especial para contar historias.

La Voz

La voz de Reed es excelente, tiene un poco de MetalCore, y en otras canciones como en The Ones Below con un excelente estilo Hard Rock! En todo el EP su voz se acopla muy bien a los cambios musicales y tempos, alto o bajos, un estilo que me recuerda al gran Roy Khan de Kamelot.
