Fresh out of the Metal scene. With their unique sound, Fall of Stasis caters to folk, black, progressive and death metal fans alike, but also to the uninitiated, thanks to their original and catchy melodies.
The Montreal-based band Fall of Stasis has shared the stage with many notable local and international bands such as The Agonist, Wolfheart and Beyond Creation.
Hello! Jessica! Thank you very much for the opportunity of this interview with you!
How have you been?
Jessica:
I’m doing great, thanks for asking!
Jessica why Black Metal for you? How was this love for the musical style born?
Jessica:
Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of pure black metal. I fell in love with black metal when I started to see it blended together with other styles, which is what we do in Fall of Stasis. We really struggle to categorize ourselves, we’re symphonic black metal, melodeath, folk, progressive… and we like it that way.
Do you like some other styles within Extreme Metal like Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Blackdeath Metal?
Jessica:
Of course! I’m a huge fan of deathcore, melodeath, technical death and anything symphonic.
What are your hobbies, do you have any other bands? Do you work for something else?
Jessica:
My band is my principal hobby. I don’t have any other bands, but I work for the Monster Factory (La fabrique de monstres), a company that specializes in voice acting for virtual monsters and creatures. I recently had the opportunity to do voice acting in two big video games, Tomb Raider and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
How is the scene within Black Metal in your country?
Jessica:
The black metal scene is pretty healthy as far as I know, but I would like to reiterate that categorizing us as plain black metal would be wrong; the symphonic aspect is very important, and even then, we dip our toes in too many styles to really fit in that box! In Canada, I feel like death metal and metalcore are pretty dominant, whereas symphonic music such as ours is a little bit underappreciated. But that’s just my opinion!
Tell us a little about “The Chronophagist” album, you show a narration with lyrics that symbolize modern social problems along with some of the personal experiences of the band members, what is the thematic basis in summary of your album and what does the title mean ?
Jessica:
The Chronophagist is a deity that steals time from people, and we talk about him in detail in the last song of our album. This character fits well in the time-travel, apocalyptic vibe of the album. I am not the best to talk about this subject as our lead guitarist Gabriel writes the lyrics, but I think it sums it up pretty well
Do you have any song in particular that is of greater importance? Did you also write any songs?
Jessica:
All the songs are important to me! And I don’t write any songs, but I’m always involved in the creative process, like all the other members of the band.
The sound of Fall of Stasis band, like for example in the song by The Cult has a bit of Folk rhythms, am I right? What other musical combinations can we find in "The Chronophagist"?
Jessica:
You’re absolutely right! As I mentioned previously, The Chronophagist features a wide variety of musical styles such as folk, black, symphonic, progressive and melodeath. In the end, who cares what style we’re categorized as? As long as it’s good!
Do you already have upcoming dates for a live event?
Jessica:
Sanitary measures are very restrictive here in Montreal, so, unfortunately, we don’t have anything lined up just yet.
Jessica, what else can you share with us about this release? Maybe there will be another new video?
Jessica:
After releasing our video clip for The Cult, we’ve also released a lyric video for the song Baal Arise. Check it out!
We’re also planning to release another video clip, about 2 months following the album release.

Recién salida de la escena del Metal. Con su sonido único, Fall of Stasis satisface por igual a los fans del folk, el black, el progresivo y el death metal, pero también a los no iniciados, gracias a sus melodías originales y pegadizas.
La banda con sede en Montreal Fall of Stasis ha compartido escenario con muchas bandas notables locales e internacionales como The Agonist, Wolfheart y Beyond Creation.

¿Cómo has estado?
Jéssica:
Estoy muy bien, gracias por preguntar!
Jessica, ¿por qué Black Metal para ti? ¿Cómo nació este amor por el estilo musical?
Jéssica:
Honestamente, no soy la mayor fanática del black metal puro. Me enamoré del black metal cuando comencé a verlo mezclado con otros estilos, que es lo que hacemos en Fall of Stasis. Realmente nos cuesta categorizarnos, somos black metal sinfónico, melodeath, folk, progresivo… y nos gusta así.
¿Te gustan otros estilos dentro del Extreme Metal como Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Blackdeath Metal?
Jéssica:
¡Por supuesto! Soy una gran fanática del deathcore, el melodeath, el death técnico y todo lo sinfónico.
¿Cuáles son tus hobbies, tienes otras bandas? ¿Trabajas en otra cosa?
Jéssica:
Mi banda es mi principal pasatiempo. No tengo otras bandas, pero trabajo para Monster Factory (La fabrica de monstruos), una compañía que se especializa en la actuación de voz para monstruos y criaturas virtuales. Recientemente tuve la oportunidad de hacer la actuación de voz en dos grandes videojuegos, Tomb Raider y Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
¿Cómo es la escena dentro del Black Metal en tu país?
Jéssica:
La escena del black metal es bastante saludable hasta donde yo sé, pero me gustaría reiterar que clasificarnos como simple black metal sería un error; el aspecto sinfónico es muy importante, e incluso entonces, ¡metemos los dedos de los pies en demasiados estilos para encajar realmente! En Canadá, siento que el death metal y el metalcore son bastante dominantes, mientras que la música sinfónica como la nuestra es un poco subestimada. ¡Pero esa es solo mi opinión!
Cuéntanos un poco sobre el álbum “The Chronophagist”, muestras una narración con letras que simbolizan los problemas sociales modernos junto con algunas de las experiencias personales de los integrantes de la banda, cuál es la base temática en resumen de tu álbum y qué significa el título?
Jéssica:
El Chronophagist es una deidad que roba tiempo a las personas, y hablamos de él en detalle en la última canción de nuestro álbum. Este personaje encaja bien en el ambiente apocalíptico y de viaje en el tiempo del álbum. No soy la mejor para hablar de este tema ya que nuestro guitarrista principal Gabriel escribe la letra, pero creo que lo resume bastante bien.
¿Tienes alguna canción en particular que sea de mayor importancia? ¿También escribiste alguna canción?
Jéssica:
¡Todas las canciones son importantes para mí! Y no escribo ninguna canción, pero siempre estoy involucrada en el proceso creativo, como todos los demás miembros de la banda.
El sonido de la banda Fall of Stasis, como por ejemplo en la canción de The Cult, tiene un poco de ritmos folk, ¿verdad? ¿Qué otras combinaciones musicales podemos encontrar en “The Chronophagist”?
Jéssica:
¡Estás absolutamente en lo correcto! Como mencioné anteriormente, The Chronophagist presenta una amplia variedad de estilos musicales como folk, black, sinfónico, progresivo y melodeath. Al final, ¿a quién le importa en qué estilo nos clasifican? ¡Mientras sea bueno!
¿Ya tienes fechas próximas para un evento en vivo?
Jéssica:
Las medidas sanitarias son muy restrictivas aquí en Montreal, por lo que, lamentablemente, todavía no tenemos nada preparado.
Jessica, ¿Qué más puedes compartir con nosotros sobre este lanzamiento? Tal vez habrá otro nuevo video?
