This time I am pleased to present an interview with a talented group! Composed by talented women on guitars and sound! Lovers and exponents of Heavy Metal! They are a group of Hell Cats from Slovenia.

 

Hellcats is the heavy metal rock band from Slovenia. It was formed in Ljubljana by Sasha and Sonja Zagorc sisters who have begun performing together in their childhood when they were still in music school. Sasha was studying classical guitar and flute Sonja. Later they went to Sonja drums and formed a girl band. Due to the small size of the space of Slovenian music was not easy to find many female musicians.

¿How you been my friends?

 

We are very well, thank you. We are promoting our new video for the song “Now Is My Time” from the album Warrior Princess at the moment. So we are busy with promotional concerts and interviews. We are happy to do what we do and excited about what future will bring us.

 

¿Hellcats, who are you? tell us a little about you?

 

Hellcats is an all-female old school heavy metal band from Slovenia. We are the first all-female metal band from this part of Europe and for now still the only one in our country. The band was formed in 2006 by the sisters Sasha (bass guitar) and Sonja Zagorc (drums). Due to the small size of Slovenian music space it wasn't easy to find many female musicians. After a few band member changes, Hellcats line-up was completed by Katja Mavec (guitar) and Dasha Makuc (vocals).

In the beginning of 2010 we released our first single “Heavy Metal", which appeared on 2011 EP "Hellcats". Our second single "Master Of The Night" was produced by Davor Kontic and Grant Austin known as producer of the band Laibach. Both songs appeared on our new CD "Warrior Princess", which was self-released by at the end of 2013 in Milano (I). Authors of the songs(music, lyrics and arrangement)are Sasha and Sonja Zagorc. The album was recorded in Studio Conti by producer Davor Kontic. Besides 'Warrior Princess' which is in English language we also recorded an album in Slovenian language named 'Divja pot'.

 

We love to perform on big stages and had many gigs in clubs and participated at many festivals to crowds of up to 12,000 people. We also toured Russia in 2012 and Italy in 2013 due to Warrior Princess release. We enjoy having as much concerts as possible and we are excited about what the future will bring us since a German tour is already booked for the next spring.

 

¿Who are the members?

 

Hellcats are: Sasha Zagorc – bass guitar, backing vocals, author, manager of the band; Sonja Zagorc – drums, backing vocals, author; Katja Mavec – guitar; Dasha Makuc – vocals

 

Sasha Zagorc you play the bass and backing vocal, tell us your story?

 

I started playing classical guitar at very early age at the music school. When I finished the music school I’ve decided to switch to bass guitar and played in a few bands, later started a band with my sister Sonja.

 

¿Sonja Zagorc, you play the drum, and backing vocals too, tell us your story? Is difficult to sing and to play the same time?

At the beginning I was playing flute. I started when I was 5 years old in music school. Later on I switched to drums and it was the best decision ever. Drumming is my passion now and having the Hellcats band is food for my soul. At first I was just drumming, then I started to sing backing vocals. You just need to practice more. Now it seems natural to do both. I'm happy if people appreciate what we do and happy to be able to express myself this way.

 

 

¿Dasha Makuc, you have a good voice! Which is your secret?

 

First I would like to thank you for your compliments. I wonder what to say that won't sound already used. I think I can say I sang before I had spoken. I enjoy singing very much, it makes my body and soul stronger and coping my obstacles easier. I think everybody has a unique knowledge or skill, he just needs to find. I found it early. But that doesn't mean I haven't put hours and hours of hard work in it.

I will sing and express my feelings as long as I will live. I have sang in few bands and projects by now, which definitely made me what I am and gave me much needed experience. Currently my heart beats for Hellcats and my side project DreamOn. I am definitely not bored. My moto is: nothing is to hard if you put your love in it.

 

¿Katja Mavec, you to play guitar, How you joined the band?

 

I was bored, and i was missing playing in a band (had some bands before), so i started to search for a band on the internet..till i found an interesting advertisement to join a female heavy metal band.

 

¿Which is the main concept of the band?

 

The main concept of the band is to show the world the idea of heavy metal music from our point of view. We are combining femininity, women power, passion and heavy metal. And we believe that it's a great combination. We are extremely proud when people say they are inspired by us.

 

¿Who writes the songs?

 

The authors of the songs are sisters Sasha and Sonja Zagorc.

 

¿What is your inspiration or theme that rely for their songs?

 

Our music is about love, desires, passion and strength. Our songs are filled with optimism and energy. We have a lot to tell and we want people to feel good when they listen to our music.  are motivating and listening to each others and talking about everything we want to do. The biggest motivation to write the songs is life itself.

 

¿What influences you have within the Heavy Metal? and Rock?

 

There was numerous of heavy metal, thrash metal and hard rock bands that had a big influence on our band. Our favorite bands are Pantera, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, AC/DC and many more. We grew up with them. They helped us to become who we are today.

 

¿Tell us about the production of your new video, 'Now is my Time', 'because that song?

 

The video was filmed at various locations in our hometown of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The song was written by sisters Sasha&Sonja Zagorc and recorded and produced in collaboration with the producer Davor Kontic at the Conti Studio. The chorus says what the song is about:'Now is my time, I'm letting the days of past go by, I follow my dreams, I've got nothing left to hide!'

 

¿What surprises us you have about your band in this year? And the next year?

 

We have a lot of plans – some new songs for the beginning, the EP, full lenght CD and a video or two, tour in Germany, maybe UK, we'll see!Hope we will be surprised too.

 

¿Will be new album?

 

We are already working on new songs, so expect a new album in the future.

Esta ocasión me complace en presentarles una entrevista con un grupo talentoso! Compuesto por mujeres con talento en las guitarras y en sonido!  Amantes y exponentes del Heavy Metal! Son un grupo de Gatitas Infernales de Eslovenia.

 

Hellcats es una banda de rock heavy metal de Eslovenia. Se formó en Ljubljana por las hermanas Sasha y Sonja Zagorc que han comenzado a realizar juntas en su infancia, cuando todavía estaban en la escuela de música. Sasha estaba estudiando guitarra clásica y Sonja flauta. Más tarde pasaron a Sonja a tambores y formaron una banda de chicas. Debido al pequeño tamaño del espacio de la música eslovena no era fácil encontrar muchos músicos femeninos.

¿Cómo han estado chicas?

 

Estamos muy bien gracias. Estamos promocionando nuestro nuevo video para la canción "Now is my time" del disco Warrior Princess.

Hemos estado ocupadas promocionando los conciertos y haciendo entrevistas. Estamos felices de hacer lo que hacemos y estamos aún más emocionadas de lo que el futuro traerá para nosotras.

 

¿Háblenme de Hellcats, quiénes son?

 

Es una banda de la vieja escuela del Heavy metal, todos los miembros son mujeres y somos de Eslovenia. Somos la primera banda femenina de esta parte de Europa y seguimos siendo la única banda de este tipo en nuestro país.

 

La banda se formó en 2006 por las hermanas Zagorc, Sasha (guitarra baja) y Sonja (batería).

Debido al pequeño espacio musical en Eslovenia, no fue fácil encontrar a muchos músicos, mucho menos mujeres. Luego de unos cuantos cambios en la banda, se completó la alineación con Katja Mavec (guitarra) y Dasha Makuc (vocalista).

 

A principios de 2010 lanzamos nuestro primer sencillo "Heavy metal", el cual apareció en nuestro EP en 2011. Nuestro segundo "Master of night" fue producido por Davor Kontic y Grant Austin, este último conocido como productor de la banda Laibach.

 

Ambas canciones aparecen en nuestro nuevo CD "Warrior princess" el cual lanzamos a finales de 2013. Las autoras de las canciones son Sasha y Sonja, además de los arreglos.

 

El álbum fue grabado en el estudio Conti por el productor Davor Kontic. Ademas de grabar Warrior Princess en el idioma inglés, grabamos uno en el idioma Esloveno, llamado Divja pot.

 

Nos encanta presentarnos en escenarios grandes, al igual que en clubs y participar en festivales para multitudes de gente que asciende a más de 12.000 personas.

 

También estuvimos de tour por Rusia en 2012 y en Italia en 2013 debido al lanzamiento de Warrior Princess. Nos emociona tener muchos conciertos y esperamos con ansias los que el futuro nos traerá.

Tenemos ya agendado un tour en Alemania para la siguiente primavera.

 

¿Quiénes son los miembros?

 

Hellcats es: Sasha Zagorc - guitarra baja, vocales de apoyo, autora y manager de la banda; Sonja Zagorc - batería, vocales de apoyo y autora; Katja Mavec - guitarra; Dasha Makuc - vocalista.

 

¿Sasha Zagorc, cuéntanos tu historia?

 

Empecé tocando la guitarra clásica desde muy temprana edad en la escuela de música. Cuando la terminé, decidí cambiar a guitarra baja y tocar en algunas bandas.

Tiempo después empecé esta banda con mi hermana.

 

¿Sonja Zagorc, tocas la batería y haces vocales de apoyo. Dinos, es difícil cantar y tocar al mismo tiempo?

 

Al principio tocaba flauta, empecé a los 5 años en la escuela de música. Tiempo después cambié a batería y siento que fue la mejor decisión.

 

Tocar la batería es mi pasión y para mí, tocar en Hellcats es como alimento para mi alma.

Al principio solo tocaba la batería, después empecé con los vocales de apoyo, simplemente necesitas practicar más. Ahora para mí, es natural hacer ambas cosas.

 

Me alegra que la gente aprecie lo que hago y me encanta poder expresarme de esta manera.

 

¿Dasha Makuc, tienes una buena voz. Cuál es tu secreto?

 

Gracias por tus cumplidos. Me pregunto, que podré decir para no sonar trillada. Se me ocurre decir que, yo canté antes de hablar.

 

Disfruto mucho de cantar, hace más fuerte mi cuerpo y alma. Soy de la idea de que cada persona tiene una cualidad y conocimiento único, solo necesitan encontrarlo.

 

He cantado en muchas bandas y eso me ha hecho ser la mujer que hoy soy, me ha dado tanta experiencia. Actualmente mi corazón esta con Hellcats y con mi proyecto alterno DreamOn.

Definitivamente no me aburro, mi lema es: Nada es lo demasiado difícil si lo haces con amor.

 

¿Katja Mavec, tu tocas la guitarra. Cuéntanos, como te uniste a la banda?

 

Estaba aburrida y extrañaba tocar en una banda (había estado en algunas antes) así que empecé a buscar una banda por internet.

 

Hasta que encontré un anuncio interesante para unirse a una banda de Heavy metal, una banda exclusiva de mujeres.

 

¿Cuál es el concepto de la banda?

 

La idea principal es mostrarle al mundo nuestro punto de vista del metal. Combinamos feminidad, poder femenino, pasión y heavy metal.

 

Creemos que es una gran combinación. Nos enorgullece cuando la gente dice inspirarse en nosotras.

 

¿Quien escribe las canciones?

 

Las autoras son las hermanas Sasha y Sonja Zagorc.

 

¿Cuál es su inspiración para escribir las canciones?

 

Nuestra música se trata de amor, deseo, pasión y fortaleza. Nuestras canciones están llenas de optimismo y energía.

 

Tenemos mucho que decir y queremos que la gente se sienta bien al escuchar nuestra música. Hablamos de todo lo que nos gusta, porque la mayor motivación para escribir, es la vida en si.

 

¿Qué influencias tienen dentro del heavy metal?

 

Hay muchas dentro del heavy metal, trash metal y hard rock. Nuestras bandas favoritas son Pantera, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, AC/DC y muchas más.

Crecimos con ellas. Nos ayudaron a convertirnos en lo que somos.

 

¿Háblanos de su nuevo video "Now is my time"

 

Lo grabamos en varias locaciones en nuestro lugar natal en Ljubljana, Eslovenia.

 

La canción fue escrita por las hermanas Zagorc y fue grabado y producido en colaboración con el productor Davor Kontic en el estudio Conti.

 

El coro explica lo que trata la canción: "Este es mi tiempo, estoy dejando el pasado atrás, sigo mis sueños, no tengo nada que perder".

 

¿Que otras sorpresas tiene la banda?

 

Tenemos muchos planes, algunas nuevas canciones, el EP, un disco completo y un par de vídeos.

El tour en Alemania, probablemente Reino Unido. Habrá muchas sorpresas.

 

¿Habrá nuevo álbum?

 

Ya empezamos a trabajar en nuevas canciones, así que estamos en espera de uno nuevo.
