Music melts into black with the emergence of Barbara Black, a cyclone of southern blues, American rock, gospel and metal.
When you mix an attitude that Lemmy himself would sign with a vocal capacity worthy of Myles Kennedy and to that you add a sound that borns from the roots of rock with the power of today's metal, the result can only be an album not to be missed. That album is Love, Death & Flies, the third album by Bárbara Black, a singer and a band born to rock.
She is an independent artist with a long career, that in 2016 began her singer solo career realising Spiritual Rock. “Shiva” was the song chosen to be in Eurovision by the AEV Festival. Barbara has won several awards as a metal vocalist in Spain such as Best National Female Rock Singer chosen by La Heavy Magazine readers in 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Barbara Black recently won the Battle Of The Bands on MDR with 32,071 votes, and is currently the Band Of The Month for June 2020! In 2017 she released the album Ad Libitum, and the band went touring in the UK in 2018 and in Spain in 2019. The new álbum Love, Death & Flies is her hardest sound that shows the lyrical influences of Poe, Bécquer and the horror cinema of the 80s. Victorian streets, dark passages and a decadent romanticism drives you to reach the zenith in “Damnified”, a reflection of the band's approach to wilder southern sounds. You will find one of the most powerful and quality voices that flies through melodies, screaming and opera as well as sharp guitars and a devastating drums.

Thank you very much for the invitation, it is a pleasure.
How have you been, how have you weathered this pandemic especially last 2020?
Barbara:
Well, with patience, trying to keep the mind occupied in musical things above all. For example, we were recording videos from home in which we explained each song on the album, we also recorded an acoustic song and a couple of collaborations. On the other hand, we also dedicate time to sports.
What have you done in 2021 with all these restrictions still?
Barbara:
We have done two streaming concerts (Vampire Fest and Argentina Metal Fest), you have to adapt to the situations. Then in April we gave the first physical concert after the pandemic and the energy that was experienced was brutal, the illusion and expectation of the people to return to the rooms was perceived, even if they were seated, with less capacity and masks.
Tell us a little about yourself! Your musical career above all! Let everyone know you!
Barbara:
I started to officially study music at the age of 15 (vocal technique, music theory and piano), I started singing in a band in my neighborhood. When I got to university I decided to study Musical Teaching and then Musicology, where I finished my training in musical analysis, composition, harmony… at the same time I worked in orchestras playing all kinds of songs, there I learned a lot. Around 2005-2006 I founded my band Black Rock with which I recorded two albums, later I was working in Vintage Jazz-Cabaret in restaurants, weddings ... At the same time I worked in singing and theater academies as a vocal technique teacher. In 2015 I started my "solo" career, my new project that would bear my own name, Bárbara Black. The truth is that as a loner it has little hahaha because more than ever I feel that we are a band and we are all together for the same cause, enjoying our musical "baby" together. With this project, the AEV festival chose our single "Shiva" in 2017 to participate in Eurovision, we have recorded two albums and an EP, and we went on tour in 2018 to the UK and Spain. Also, in 2020 we won the Metal Devastation Radio Show contest and in 2021 we have won two categories at the Banger Music Awards (Best Single / Best Female Singer), so we are very happy.
What are your main musical influences? You have a good rock voice! Hard Rock or Heavy Metal?
Barbara:
My musical influences are Blues Saraceno, Bonamassa, Black Stone Cherry, Halestorm, Alterbridge, Shinedown, Sixx A.M or Black Stone Cherry. But my vocal influences are Janis Joplin, Doro Pesch, Eric Martin, Russell Allen, Janet Gardner ...
Any other musical style outside of these two previous ones?
Barbara:
I love blues, gospel, country, soul and rap hahaha.
Do you have any favorite female vocal influences?
Barbara:
Doro Pesch, Lee Aaron, Lzzy Hale, Janet Gardner, Alannah Myles, Kimberly Goss, Maria Brink ...
What is the theme, concept or was the production of ‘Love, Death & Flies’?
Barbara:
Above all, they are darker lyrics, with an implicit decadent romanticism full of images that create stories and atmospheres. For example in "Kissed by flames" I speak of a paranormal experience that I lived several years ago, on the other hand the last two songs of the album express our rejection of gender violence through the metaphor of a vampire who murders a woman in Victorian London, later she wakes up in a cemetery and hearing the sound of flies continuously is how she realizes that she has died and now they call her the Queen of the flies.
Now what has been the criticism with your audience of your album from a year ago, 'Love, Death & Flies'?
Barbara:
Very well, we are very happy and grateful for the good reviews we have received from both the public and the press.
Will you have any new video clips on your album? It is in process?
Barbara:
We have recorded the video of Tiger Tamer with a circus theme, by the hand of Ix Valieri, we have also recorded a video lyrics with Nat Enémede of the song You belong to me, and just a few weeks ago we are going to record the video clip of The Queen of the Flies , also with Nat Enémede.
How have you done to publicize your album? Any online event? By some social network
Barbara:
Yes, as I mentioned before, two streaming concerts, and many interviews in many countries, in addition to the reviews. On the other hand, now we start with the physical concerts, so that is the best possible promotion.

Well the other day I went to the cinema and saw Dune and I recommend it for those of us who like 80's movies. And on the other hand ... I recently adopted two red-haired kittens called Bowie and Myles hahaha I've already uploaded a photo of them in my networks in case you want to know them, they are very funny.

La música se vuelve negra con la aparición de Barbara Black, un ciclón de blues sureño, rock estadounidense, gospel y metal.
Cuando mezclas una actitud que el propio Lemmy firmaría con una capacidad vocal digna de Myles Kennedy y a eso le añades un sonido que nace de las raíces del rock con la potencia del metal actual, el resultado solo puede ser un disco que no te puedes perder. . Ese disco es Love, Death & Flies, el tercer disco de Bárbara Black, cantante y banda nacida del rock.
Es una artista independiente con una dilatada carrera, que en 2016 inició su carrera como cantante solista realizando Spiritual Rock. “Shiva” fue la canción elegida para estar en Eurovisión por el Festival AEV. Barbara ha ganado varios premios como vocalista de metal en España, como Mejor Cantante Nacional de Rock Femenina elegida por los lectores de La Heavy Magazine en 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019 y 2020. Barbara Black ganó recientemente la Battle Of The Bands en MDR con 32.071 votos. ¡y actualmente es la banda del mes de junio de 2020! Muchas gracias por la invitación, es un placer.
¿Cómo has estado, Como has sobrellevado esta pandemia sobre todo este pasado 2020?
Bárbara:
Bueno pues con paciencia, tratando de mantener la mente ocupada en cosas musicales sobre todo. Por ejemplo, estuvimos grabando desde casa videos en los que explicábamos cada canción del disco, también grabamos un tema en acústico y un par de colaboraciones. Por otro lado dedicamos también tiempo al deporte.
¿Qué has hecho este 2021 con todas estas restricciones aun?
Bárbara:
Hemos hecho dos conciertos en streaming (Vampire Fest y Argentina Metal Fest), hay que adaptarse a las situaciones. Después en abril dimos el primer concierto físico tras la pandemia y fue brutal la energía que se vivió, se percibía la ilusión y expectación de la gente por volver a las salas, aunque fuera sentados, con menos aforo y mascarillas.
¡Cuéntanos un poco sobre ti! ¡Tu carrera musical sobre todo! ¡Que te conozcan todos!
Bárbara:
Empecé a estudiar oficialmente música a los 15 años (técnica vocal, solfeo y piano), empecé a cantar en una banda de mi barrio. Cuando llegué a la universidad decidí estudiar Magisterio Musical y después Musicología, donde terminé de formarme en análisis musical, composición, armonía…a la vez trabajaba en orquestas tocando todo tipo de canciones, allí aprendí muchísimo. En torno a 2005-2006 fundé mi banda Black Rock con la que grabé dos discos, después estuve trabajando en Vintage Jazz-Cabaret en restaurantes, bodas…A la vez trabajaba en academias de canto y teatro como profesora de técnica vocal. Ya en 2015 comencé mi carrera en “solitario”, mi nuevo proyecto que llevaría mi nombre propio, Bárbara Black. La verdad que de solitario tiene poco jajajja porque más que nunca siento que somos una banda y todos estamos a una por la misma causa, disfrutando juntos de nuestro “bebé” musical. Con este proyecto, el festival AEV eligió nuestro single “Shiva” en 2017 para participar en Eurovisión, hemos grabado dos álbumes y un EP, y nos fuimos de gira en 2018 a UK y por España. Además en 2020 ganamos el concurso de Metal Devastation Radio Show y en 2021 hemos ganado dos categorías en los Banger Music Awards (Best Single/Best Female Singer), así que estamos muy contentos.

Me encanta el blues, el góspel, el country, el soul y el rap la verdad jajajja.

¿Cuál es la temática, concepto o fue la producción de ‘Love, Death & Flies’?
Bárbara:
Sobre todo, son letras más oscuras, con un romanticismo decadente implícito lleno de imágenes que crean historias y atmósferas. Por ejemplo en “Kissed by flames” hablo de una experiencia paranormal que viví hace varios años, por otro lado las dos últimas canciones del disco expresan nuestro rechazo a la violencia de género a través de la metáfora de un vampiro que asesina a una mujer en el Londres victoriano, posteriormente ella se despierta en un cementerio y al escuchar continuamente el sonido de las moscas es como se da cuenta de que ha muerto y ahora la llaman la Reina de las moscas.
Ahora que tal ha sido la crítica con tu audiencia de tu álbum de hace un año, ‘Love, Death & Flies’?
Bárbara:
Muy bien, estamos muy contentos y agradecidos con las buenas críticas que hemos recibido tanto del público como de la prensa.
¿Tendrás algún nuevo videoclip sobre tu álbum? ¿Está en proceso?
Bárbara:
Hemos grabado el video de Tiger Tamer con temática circense, de la mano de Ix Valieri, también hemos grabado un video lyrics con Nat Enémede del tema You belong to me, y justo hace pocas semanas vamos a grabar el videoclip de La Reina de las moscas, también con Nat Enémede.
¿Cómo le has hecho para darle la difusión a tu álbum? ¿Algún evento en línea? Por alguna red social
Bárbara:
Si como te comentaba antes, dos conciertos en streaming, y muchísimas entrevistas por muchísimos países, además de las reviews. Por otro lado, ahora empezamos con los conciertos físicos, así que esa es la mejor promoción posible.
¿Tienes en mente alguna fecha además de las que tienes el siguiente mes y el año que entra en España? ¿En algún otro punto de Europa?

Y por otro lado…recientemente he adoptado dos gatitos pelirrojos que se llaman Bowie y Myles jajajja ya he subido alguna foto de ellos en mis redes por si les queréis conocer, son muy graciosos.
¿Algún mensaje para Latino américa, sé que tuviste un evento on line en Argentina, para algún otro país del cono sur o centro américa?
Bárbara:
Pues que estamos deseando volar hasta allí y compartir conciertos con todos vosotros y disfrutar juntos del metal. Además, poco a poco os vamos conociendo a muchos y estaría genial reunirnos en persona.
