Singer of the Mexican band Zenn sn50 of Alternative Metal! We are pleased to have this interview with new Mexican talent!

How are you?
Dakma:
Very well!! On the contrary, thank you very much for the interview, I take this opportunity to send greetings to all Darkzen fans

Why the name of Dakma?
Dakma:
"Dakhma" "Dakma" means "towers of silence" in the Zoroastrian religion (Iran) and were funerary buildings, this religion considered the human corpse as an impure element that should not contaminate the elements such as earth and fire, so which were thrown into the central part of the building and devoured by the vultures. I adopted the name because I think that when we die, the body is just an instrument that we use in this world and what remains in people's memory are our actions and in my case I would like to be remembered for music.
Tell us about yourself! Who are you with Zenn and outside Zenn?
Dakma:
I consider myself a loyal, honest and orderly person, I keep these characteristics inside and outside of zënn, I tend to be a bit obsessive, I don't give up until I get it. But something that if I could make a difference inside and outside of zënn is my introversion down the stage; p
What are your musical influences inside and outside the metal?
Dakma:
I grew up listening to psychedelic and progressive rock thanks to my father and this set the tone for me to decide on singing, since although I was very small I enjoyed imitating the voice of Mariska Veres (The Shocking Blue), over the years I became interested in jazz listening to greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simon and Etta James. Inside the metal, nice to hear from Otep and System of a Down.
What metal style do you prefer? Do you have any favorite style?
Dakma:
I like to explore a large part of the subgenres of metal, but I am from the 90's and I identify a lot with the New Metal since it was the time when that wave of great bands exploded.
How did you get to the world of metal?
Dakma:
Before joining zënn, I belonged to a cover band and we played classic rock songs and sporadically metal songs and when that turn came, I felt that I could take over the stage completely by the force of interpretation that genre requires (and I said there I am hehe).
How was your band formed?
Dakma:
Zënn was formed in January of 2018 being Kota Gutman (guitarist) and I the founders, we finished the cover project since we felt the need to create our own music and we invited Oskar Tox (Bassist) to be part of the project, through an announcement in social networks is integrated Kruz Daem (Drummer) starting with the first rehearsals.
How would you define the sound they mix with Zenn?
Dakma:
Like all the members we have different ages, origins and influences, it gives us the opportunity to merge several styles of both rock and metal, I could define that the sound of the band is power and strength in both music and voice, without losing clarity of the interpretation.
Do you write the songs of the band? If so, what is the source for writing?
Dakma:
Yes, I write the lyrics of the band and try to rely on duality, that light and darkness, the balance that must exist in a person to maintain it in our lives.
How was the tour that I barely had the chance to see you? On August 18 tell us about the tour!
Dakma:
To be a new band, the proposal and invitation to be part of this “Rock Hard and Prog Tour” that was carried out by several cities in the center of the Mexican Republic came very soon, sharing the stage with excellent bands such as: In lak Ech , Meliora and She no more, it is very exciting to see the response of the public and especially that they are very receptive to new projects.
I must confess that it is a bit tiring but in the end the result is gratifying. I am very grateful to all the people who attended, many new faces to whom we could share a little of what zënn is.
Do you have vocal training? Do you have any specific range? If that's how you train that strong voice!
Dakma:
That's right, I train my voice practicing vocalization exercises, it is a fundamental part of a singer to maintain a healthy and controlled voice, in addition to having certain habits such as always keeping myself hydrated, I don't drink drinks that are neither too cold nor too hot and I don't smoke.
Tell us about your first self-titled EP of your band! Was the production difficult?
Dakma:
Our first Ep titled Sn-50 is released on June 15 of this year and consists of 6 songs (Paranoia, Days of War, Doppelgänger, Red Moon, Toxic and Scott), fortunately the production was not complicated since we were preparing for months , before entering the recording studio and this facilitated the process.
Tell us if you have thought about recording new material?
Dakma:
Yes, in fact we already have new songs, and we are currently in the composition stage, our next plan is to present our long-term album.
Will there be a new video of a particular song?
Dakma:
The first official zënn video clip is being recorded in the City of Pachuca Hidalgo, with the help of our friends from Alice Magazine, the song is Scott and its premiere is expected later this 2019.
Some words for your fans and for new female voices inroads in this area
Dakma:
For my fans, thanks for all the unconditional support they show every day, their good wishes motivate me to continue with all the attitude, that's why I always carry them in my heart. For the new female voices: No matter the gender in which they decide to dabble, the important thing is that they always fight for their dreams, and if the specific music and song is one of them, be disciplined, exercise the voice, and keep good habits, you will see that in the end you get a great reward.

¿Cómo has estado?
Dakma:
Muy bien!! Al contrario, muchas gracias a ti por la entrevista, aprovecho para mandar un saludo a todos los seguidores de Darkzen

¿Porque el nombre de Dakma?
Dakma:
“Dakhma” “Dakma” significa “torres del silencio” en la religión zoroástrica (Irán) y eran edificios funerarios, dicha religión consideraba al cadáver humano como un elemento impuro que no debía contaminar a los elementos como la tierra y el fuego, por lo cual eran arrojados a la parte central del edificio y devorados por los buitres. Adopté el nombre ya que pienso que al morir, el cuerpo es solo un instrumento que utilizamos en éste mundo y lo que se queda en la memoria de la gente son nuestras acciones y en mi caso me gustaría ser recordada por la música.
Cuéntanos sobre ti! Quien eres con Zenn y fuera de Zenn?
Dakma:
Me considero una persona leal, honesta y ordenada, estas características las conservo dentro y fuera de zënn, suelo ser un poco obsesiva, no me rindo hasta que lo consigo. Pero algo que si podría marcar la diferencia dentro y fuera de zënn es mi introversión abajo del escenario ;p
Cuáles son tus influencias musicales dentro y fuera del metal?
Dakma:
Crecí escuchando rock psicodélico y progresivo gracias a mi padre y esto marcó la pauta para que me decidiera por el canto, ya que aunque era muy pequeña disfrutaba imitar la voz de Mariska Veres ( The Shocking Blue), al paso de los años me interesé por el jazz escuchando a grandes como Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simon y Etta James. Dentro del metal, gusto de escuchar a Otep y a System of a Down.
Que estilo metalero te gusta más? Tienes algún estilo preferido?
Dakma:
Me gusta explorar gran parte de los subgéneros del metal, pero soy de los 90´s y me identifico mucho con el New metal ya que fue la época donde explotó esa oleada de grandes bandas.
Como llegaste al mundo del metal?
Dakma:
Antes de formar parte de zënn, pertenecía a una banda de covers e interpretábamos canciones de rock clásico y esporádicamente canciones de metal y cuando llegaba ese turno, sentía que podía apoderarme completamente del escenario por la fuerza de interpretación que requiere ese género (y dije de ahí soy jeje).
Como se formó tu banda?
Dakma:
Zënn se forma en Enero del 2018 siendo Kota Gutman (guitarrista) y yo los fundadores, terminamos el proyecto de covers ya que sentíamos la necesidad de crear música propia e invitamos a Oskar Tox (Bajista) a ser parte del proyecto, mediante un anuncio en redes sociales se integra Kruz Daem (Baterista) iniciando con los primeros ensayos.
Cómo definirías el sonido que mezclan con Zenn?
Dakma:
Como todos los integrantes tenemos diferentes edades, orígenes e influencias, nos da la oportunidad de fusionar varios estilos tanto del rock como del metal, podría definir que el sonido de la banda, es poder y fuerza tanto en música y voz, sin perder la claridad de la interpretación.
Escribes las canciones de la banda? Si es así cual es la fuente para escribir?
Dakma:
Si, escribo las letras de la banda y trato de basarme en la dualidad, esa luz y oscuridad, el equilibrio que debe existir en una persona para mantenerlo en nuestra vida.
Que tal la gira que apenas tuve la oportunidad de verte? El pasado 18 de Agosto cuéntanos sobre el tour!
Dakma:
Para ser una banda nueva, llegó muy pronto la propuesta e invitación de ser parte de éste “Rock Hard and Prog Tour” que se llevó a cabo por varias ciudades del centro de la República Mexicana, compartiendo escenario con excelentes bandas como: In lak Ech, Meliora y She no more, es muy emocionante ver la respuesta del público y sobre todo que son muy receptivos con proyectos nuevos.
Debo confesar que si es un poco agotador pero al final es gratificante el resultado. Estoy muy agradecida con todas las personas que asistieron, muchos rostros nuevos a quienes pudimos compartirles un poco de lo que es zënn.
Tienes entrenamiento vocal? Tienes algún rango en específico? Si es así como entrenas esa voz fuerte!
Dakma:
Así es, entreno mi voz practicando ejercicios de vocalización, es parte fundamental de un cantante para mantener una voz sana y controlada, además de tener ciertos hábitos como mantenerme siempre hidratada, no ingiero bebidas ni muy frías ni muy calientes y no fumo.
Cuéntanos sobre su primer EP homónimo de su banda! ¿Fue difícil la producción?
Dakma:
Nuestro primer Ep titulado Sn-50 se lanza el 15 de Junio del presente año y consta de 6 canciones (Paranoia, Días de guerra, Doppelgänger, Luna roja, Tóxico y Scott), afortunadamente no fue complicada la producción ya que estuvimos preparándonos por meses, antes de entrar al estudio de grabación y esto facilitó el proceso.
Cuéntanos si tienen pensado en grabar nuevo material?
Dakma:
Si, de hecho ya tenemos nuevas canciones, y en este momento estamos en etapa de composición, nuestro plan próximo es presentar nuestro disco de larga duración.
Habrá un nuevo video de alguna canción en especial?
Dakma:
Se está grabando en la Ciudad de Pachuca Hidalgo el primer video clip oficial de zënn, con la ayuda de nuestros amigos de Alice Magazine, la canción es Scott y se espera su estreno a finales de este 2019.
Algunas palabras para tus fans y para las nuevas voces femeninas que incursionen en este ámbito
Dakma:
Para mis fans un agradecimiento por todo el apoyo incondicional que día a día demuestran, sus buenos deseos me motivan para seguir con toda la actitud, por eso siempre los llevo en mi corazón. Para las nuevas voces femeninas: No importa el género en el cual decidan incursionar, lo importante es que siempre luchen por sus sueños, y si la música y el canto en específico es uno de ellos, sean disciplinadas, ejerciten la voz, y mantengan buenos hábitos, verán que al final se obtiene una gran recompensa.
