Chicago’s AFTERMATH is one of the pioneering crossover thrash bands of the 1980s: a band that transformed into one of the most technical Thrash Metal bands of its time on its critically-acclaimed debut album, Eyes of Tomorrow. Its new album There is Something Wrong is an 11-song opus. A concept record in the truest sense of the word, the album features a mix of old-school crossover thrash and technical/progressive metal, and is a commentary on what is wrong with the world today. A calling out of the masses to wake up and know the real enemy. The music is urgent, and the lyrics challenge the listener to seek the truth. We start with an environmental entrance of pure destruction! Excellent! For the musical storm that is coming!

 

FFF (FalseFlagFlying)

 

The song begins very explosively, then an interesting narrative with a slow rhythm and later with an excellent change in musical scales, those powerful and very incisive guitars!

 

Diethanasia

 

Excellent powerful input, guitar drums and vocals, lots of technique with the scales and tempos we can hear plus a crushing riff!

 

Scientists and Priest

 

They start extremely explosive, rhythmic, accelerated and without leaving the Technical / Progressive side that we can hear with the changes in time, fast, melodic and constant, perfect heavy and aggressive sound!

 

Smash Reset Control

 

A start with a lot of musical warfare! In addition to the background atmosphere, exquisite old school thrash metal! Those changes in time is an acceleration and suddenly slow is brutal.

 

Gaslight

 

A very dark and overwhelming atmospheric entry, with an interesting narrative and from there we jump with challenging rhythms, guitar duel, drums and vocals that merge into a single note to the war cry!

Another entry with a narrative and devastating message! With a discreet chord that accompanies the entire track, later intricate tempos and with demanding complex instrumental parts with more time in the narrative and the longest song.

 

There is Something Wrong

 

Almost closing this complex album, we find the song that gives the album its name, with an explosiveness and raw and strong rudeness! Shake your head! Demonic riffs, a perfect classic thrash metal.

 

Expulsion

 

And closing this complex album full of relentless rhythms, sounds and notes, we started as in all the previous songs in a very atmospheric way and accompanied with a good dose of technical and progressive thrash.

 

 

My Recomendation

 

It is a very musically demanding album, elaborated with a lot of technique which we can listen to from the beginning, it has tracks with a classic and excellent old school Thrash group mixed with technical / progressive elements that one can find in several of the songs on the album , and songs like "Smash, Reset, Control" with a classic and explosive sound, while other songs on the album have more progressive technicality! Although Aftermath gets weirder as the songs progress to the end, I think therein lies the strength and beauty of the album itself for its overwhelming and heavy sound.

 

Lyrically, the album addresses the issues of control, power and social deception by the great elites and urges that we discover the truth about this situation, in many of its songs we can find in the narrative part events which are lived daily, it's a complex album! The changes in the rhythm, musical scales and tempos are very laborious and very well managed, we can hear the maturity with which the band counts through its experience in Thrash Metal, it will blow your head with a complex sound and overwhelming lyrics!

Un álbum conceptual en el verdadero sentido de la palabra, el álbum presenta una mezcla de thrash crossover de la vieja escuela y metal técnico / progresivo, y es un comentario sobre lo que está mal en el mundo de hoy. ¡Iniciamos con una entrada ambiental de pura destrucción! Excelente! ¡Para la Tormenta musical que se nos avecina!

 

FFF (FalseFlagFlying)

 

Inicia muy explosiva la canción, después una narrativa interesante con un ritmo lento y posteriormente con un excelente en cambios en las escalas musicales, ¡esas guitarras poderosas y muy incisivas! 

 

Diethanasia

 

Excelente entrada potente, batería guitarras y voz, ¡mucha técnica con las escalas y tempos que podemos escuchar más un riff aplastante!

 

Scientists and Priest

 

Inician sumamente explosivos, rítmica, acelerada y sin dejar el lado Técnico/Progresivo que podemos escuchar con los cambios en tiempo, rápido, melódico y constante, sonido pesado y agresivo perfecto!

 

Smash Reset Control

 

Un inicio con mucha guerra musical! Además del ambiente de fondo, esquisito thrash metal a la vieja escuela! Esos cambios en tiempo es una aceleración y de repente lento es brutal.

 

Gaslight

 

Una entrada atmosférica muy oscura y abrumadora, con una narrativa interesante y de ahí saltamos con ritmos desafiantes, duelo de guitarras, batería y voz que se funden en una sola nota al grito de guerra!

Una canción atmosférica, hipnótica y psicosocial abrumadora y genial!

 

Temptation Overthrown

 

La cual la pista anterior nos prepara para la batalla siguiente con unos riffs y batería acelerada y contundente, constante con un ritmo melódico y más técnico.

 

Pseudocide

 

Otra entrada con una narrativa y mensaje demoledor! Con un acorde discreto que acompaña a toda la pista, posteriormente tempos intrincados y con exigentes partes instrumentales complejas con más tiempo en la narrativa y la canción de mayor duración.

Casi cerrando este álbum complejo, nos encontramos con la canción que le da nombre al álbum, con una explosividad y rudeza cruda y fuerte! ¡A mover la cabeza! Riffs endemoniados, un thrash metal clásico y perfecto.

 

Expulsion

 

Y cerrando este álbum complejo y lleno de ritmos, sonidos y notas implacables iniciamos como en todas las canciones anteriores de una forma muy atmosférica y acompañado con una buena dosis de thrash técnico y progresivo. 

 

Mi Recomendación  

 

Es un álbum muy exigente musicalmente, elaborado con mucha técnica el cual lo podemos escuchar desde el inicio, tiene pistas con un clásico y excelente Thrash a la vieja escuela grupo mezcla con elementos técnico / progresivo que uno puede encontrar en varias de las canciones del álbum, y canciones como "Smash, Reset, Control" con un sonido clásico y explosivo, mientras que otras canciones del álbum tienen más tecnicismo progresivo! Aunque Aftermath se vuelve cada vez más extraño a medida que avanzan las canciones y hasta el final, creo que ahí radica su fuerza y belleza del álbum en sí mismo por su sonido abrumador y pesado.

 

Líricamente, el álbum aborda los temas de control, poder y el engaño social por parte de las grandes elites y se insta a que descubramos la verdad sobre esta situación, en muchas de sus canciones podemos encontrar en la parte narrativa eventos el cual se vive a diario, es un álbum complejo! Los cambios en el ritmo, escalas musicales y tempos son muy laboriosos y muy bien manejados, podemos escuchar la madurez con la que la banda cuenta atraves de su experiencia dentro del Thrash Metal, te volara la cabeza con un sonido complejo y una lírica aplastante!
