Rute Fevereiro is a Portuguese singer, guitarist, and songwriter. She is the vocalist, lyricist and founder of the band EnChanTya.

 

Rute’s voice is well known by contrasting between operatic and growling vocals. She is also famous for being the vocalist and guitarist of the first Portuguese female metal band, Black Widows, which she created in 1995. Since then, Rute has been guest vocalist and guest musician for several national and international bands, including Ancient Rites (Belgium), Poseidon’s Anger (USA) and Beto Vazquez (Argentina). Rute has been also responsible for some vocal workshops.

 

Hi, Rute how are you? thank you very much for this interview!

 

Tell us about you! Who is Rute in this moment?

 

Rute

 

Hello, thank you for your interview. That's an interesting question. Well, I'd like to think of myself as someone who is hard working, very focused on my dreams, direct and creative. Music is a big part of who I am and my bands and my band partners are someone who I really care about.

 

You have a lot of experience working with several bands! How does that feel?

 

Rute

 

To be honest, it still feels like that I need to learn so much mor. But those experiences have brought me to where I am today and to my work with my bands.

 

What are your musical influences?

 

Rute

 

I am a metal lover, for sure. But I like to listen to other musical genres too. I'm not a rap fan though.

 

How do you care and train your voice? It is very versatile! I like it!

 

Rute

 

Thank you! I don't smoke , I don't go out every weekend, I rarely drink alcohol. I don't eat spicy food or drink too much cold or hot drinks. I always have a coat with me in my car. And I drink lots of water and try to sleep as many hours as I can.

Tell us a little about your new álbum 'On Light and Wrath' as was the production?

 

Rute

 

We as a band wrote the songs. Usually somebody used to bring an idea of a song and then we improved that idea and contributed with some ideas too. After that we recorded a pre production of the album and recorded the album itself at Audio Manufactures Studios, where our producer, Fernando Matias (Sinistro) , suggested some changes and added new ideas.

 

What was the good and the bad about the production of your new álbum?

Working with Fernando Matias (Sinistro) is always amazing, he's very professional, patient and a experienced producer. He has outstanding ideas, specially for vocal harmonizations. The bad part is that we wished we had more time, we always feel that there's room for improvement regarding details and new ideas.

 

The álbum has excellent entries every track of your álbum! especially your voice! What is the theme of the álbum? Atmospheric? Dark? Melodic? What does it mean to you

 

Rute

 

The concept of the album is that there cannot exist a separated experience of good and bad feelings, both are connected, both are defined by the very existence of the other one.

In terms of musical style... That's hard to describe. It's a complex album, all songs don't sound the same. Some songs are heavier, other more melodical or theatrically dark. There is also a moment to breathe with music "Alma". I guess that it depends on the perception of the listener.

 

Darkzen: Everything is connected at all times

 

The production of your video "The Beginning" why did you choose that song? What does it mean to you?

We thought that "The Beginning" shows everything that exists in this album: aggressive rhythms, many guitar leads, vocal versatility, the choirs, the keyboard orchestral work, lots of dynamic and a strong message.

 

"The Beginning" is all about getting rid of all the false people, the liars that surround you, the vampyres of our energy. It's exactly that turning point when you say that is enough and that you will start a new life without that people.

 

Any song from your álbum that you like the most?

 

Rute

 

It depends on my mood. At one moment in time every single one of them was listened more often, but I love "From the Ashes".

 

Will you make a new music video? if so, what would it be!

 

Rute

 

Yes! In early summer. I'm not sure which song it is. But we have already a lot of ideas. Meanwhile we will release the "Making of On Light And Wrath" video. It has all our moments at writing the songs and recording them with our guests.

 

Some tour soon in your country? or outside your country?

 

Rute

 

We are booking some concerts for Portugal. We have the album release concert on May 24th in Lisbon,then we have confirmed a date for July and December. However we expect to announce more dates very soon.

Rute Fevereiro cantante, guitarrista y compositora portuguesa. Vocalista, letrista y fundadora de la banda EnChanTya.

 

La voz de Rute es bien conocida al contrastar entre voces operísticas y fuerte. También es famosa por ser la vocalista y guitarrista de la primera banda de metal femenina portuguesa, Black Widows, que creó en 1995. Desde entonces, Rute ha sido vocalista invitada y música invitada para varias bandas nacionales e internacionales, incluyendo Ancient Rites (Bélgica). ), Poseidon's Anger (EE. UU.) Hola, gracias por tu entrevista. Esa es una pregunta interesante. Bueno, me gustaría pensar que soy una persona trabajadora, muy centrada en mis sueños, directa y creativa. La música es una parte importante de quién soy yo, mis bandas y mis compañeros de banda son personas que realmente me importan.

 

¡Tienes mucha experiencia trabajando con varias bandas! ¿Cómo se siente?

Para ser honesta, todavía siento que necesito aprender mucho más. Pero esas experiencias me han llevado a donde estoy hoy y a mi trabajo con mis bandas.

 

¿Cuáles son tus influencias musicales?

 

Rute

 

Soy un amante del metal, seguro. Pero también me gusta escuchar otros géneros musicales. Aunque no soy una fanática del rap.

 

¿Cómo te cuidas y entrenas tu voz? ¡Es muy versátil! ¡Me gusta!

¡Gracias! No fumo, no salgo todos los fines de semana, rara vez bebo alcohol. No como comida picante ni tomo demasiadas bebidas frías o calientes. Siempre tengo un abrigo conmigo en mi carro. Y bebo mucha agua e intento dormir tantas horas como pueda.

Cuéntanos un poco sobre tu nuevo álbum 'On Light and Wrath' como fue la producción?

 

Rute

 

Nosotros como banda escribimos las canciones. Por lo general, alguien solía traer una idea de una canción y luego la mejoramos y también contribuimos con algunas ideas. Después de eso grabamos una preproducción del álbum y grabamos el álbum en sí en Audio Manufactures Studios, donde nuestro productor, Fernando Matias (Sinistro), sugirió algunos cambios y agregó nuevas ideas.

 

¿Qué fue lo bueno y lo malo de la producción de tu nuevo álbum?

Trabajar con Fernando Matias (Sinistro) siempre es increíble, es muy profesional, paciente y un productor experimentado. Tiene ideas destacadas, especialmente para armonizaciones vocales. Lo malo es que nos hubiera gustado tener más tiempo, siempre sentimos que hay espacio para mejorar con respecto a los detalles y las nuevas ideas.

 

¡El álbum tiene excelentes entradas en cada pista de tu álbum! especialmente tu voz! ¿Cuál es el tema del álbum? ¿Atmosférico? ¿Oscuro? ¿Melódico? Qué significa para ti

 

El concepto del álbum del que no puede existir una experiencia separada de buenos y malos sentimientos, ambos están conectados, ambos están definidos por la existencia misma del otro.

En términos de estilo musical... Eso es difícil de describir. Es un álbum complejo, todas las canciones no suenan igual. Algunas canciones son más pesadas, otras más melódicas o teatralmente oscuras. También hay un momento para respirar con la música "Alma". Supongo que depende de la percepción del oyente.

 

Darkzen: todo está conectado en todo momento

La producción de tu vídeo "The Beginning" ¿Por qué elegiste esa canción? ¿Qué significa para ti?

 

Rute

 

Pensamos que "The Beginning" muestra todo lo que existe en este álbum: ritmos agresivos, muchos conductores de guitarra, versatilidad vocal, los coros, el trabajo orquestal del teclado, mucha dinámica y un mensaje fuerte.

 

"El Comienzo" se trata de deshacerse de todas las personas falsas, los mentirosos que te rodean, los vampiros de nuestra energía. Es exactamente ese punto de inflexión cuando dices que es suficiente y que comenzarás una nueva vida sin esa gente.

 

¿Alguna canción de tu álbum que más te guste?

Depende de mi estado de ánimo. En un momento dado, cada uno de ellos fue escuchado más a menudo, pero me encanta "From the Ashes".

 

¿Harás un nuevo vídeo musical? Si es así, ¿qué sería?

 

Rute

 

¡Sí! A principios de verano. No estoy segura de qué canción es. Pero ya tenemos muchas ideas. Mientras tanto, lanzaremos el vídeo "Making of On Light And Wrath". Tiene todos nuestros momentos para escribir las canciones y grabarlas con nuestros invitados.

 

¿Alguna gira pronto en tu país? o fuera de tu país?

Estamos reservando algunos conciertos para Portugal. Tenemos el concierto de lanzamiento del álbum el 24 de mayo en Lisboa, luego hemos confirmado una fecha para julio y diciembre. Sin embargo esperamos anunciar más fechas muy pronto.
