Greetings friends! This end of month, I have this great interview with a band with style and eager to make his mark in the Metal and National scene in México, Melphomene! which leave us and tell us who they are!

 

Greetings from México, it's a pleasure to know about you guys

 

¿How have you been guys?

 

Melphomene: Hi!  What's up, We have been fine. we are very busy and happy with Melphomene

 

¿How did the band begin?

 

Mario: The band gradually emerges and started when Esthibaliz and i decided to rescue many old songs, that we had saved since a long time ago.

 

We had never used this songs before.

 

We decided to rescue them, update them and remove dust, from that moment  we created a new project where we could play all that songs.

 

¿What does the name of the band mean?

 

Mario: Melphomene is the greek muse of the tragedy and also was considered the muse of the singing, the harmony and the mother of mermaids.

We decided it was the right name for the band.

 

¿Esthibaliz is your real name?

 

That's right, it is my real name.

Its origin is Basque and it means "made of honey".

 

¿What has been your vocal and musical training?

 

Esthibaliz: My training has been within the classical singing, this has allowed me to develop a technique and a wide vocal range.

 

I like many musical styles and try to use every style and every technique in my musical repertoire.

I studied the singing career in the University of music in Mexico and took lessons of classical singing for many years.

 

¿What are your musical influences, bands or singers that have influenced you?

 

Esthibaliz: My main influence and also favorite singer, is the soprano Joan Sutherland. Tarja and Nightwish have been an strong influence in my music.

 

Bands like dream Theater, Aesma Daeva, Rhapsody, Within Temptation and pop artists like Michael Jackson and Madonna.

 

¿What are your activities offstage? What are your hobbies?

 

Esthibaliz: Offstage i'm dedicating to the music and the art. I'm a private singing teacher and i have a chorus with my students.

 

Also, i'm still studying singing, acting and dancing to continue my artistic growth.

 

¿What is the essence of Melphomene? What do you want  to share us?

 

Mario: We want to share what we are, what we like, the ideas that inspire us to compose our music. Besides, we want to share the incredible voice of Estibaliz.

 

This genre had always liked us but we had never had the opportunity to explore it.

 

Melphomene is feelings, ideas, inspiration, exploration, experimentation, ideals and dreams from all of us.

 

¿What can you tell us about the EP "Destructive Crescendo"? How was the production?

 

Ignacio: It was a curious and funny process, i had just entered to the project when the recording started. The songs were taking form gradually.

 

Mauricio: The ideas were pretty clear and it was easy to carry them out.

The tracking of the drums was made in two days and the rest of the instruments were added little by little at the studio.

 

¿Did you write some songs?

 

Esthibaliz: Yes, Mario and i. We take care of the songs, but there are collaborations from the other members of the band.

 

Mario composed "Always" and "Little sins", the song "Mother night" was composed by our friend Jorge Castilla.

 

"Howl" is a song composed by Omar Silva who was the former bassist of the band. I took care of write the lyrics and the voice melodies.

 

"Maiden and Death" is a song that was elaborated in collaboration with other friend of ours, Adrian Gallardo. The music of that song was totally created for me.

 

Finally, in the song "Destructive Crescendo" Mario and i decided to work together, creating the music and lyrics.

 

¿It will have a video clip?

 

Ignacio: We have been talking about make a video and we want to have a good visual material to share. We will give you more information later.

 

¿What do you guys think about the survey that won for the Female Metal Voices Fest?

 

Mario: It was a great surprise, we realized of all the support that we have, from the people who voted for us.

 

We are excited of have won, in this poll there was a lot of great bands. Bands from all over the world.

 

Win this poll means that more people will know us through, people from other countries, not only from mexico.

 

¿What do you guys think about the Female Metal Voices Fest?

 

Esthibaliz: We want to play in this festival. Is a festival very famous where all the important bands within the genre come.

 

Besides, this festival helps to a new bands and we'd like to play at this festival in the not too distant future.

 

¿There's something else you guys want to share with us?

 

Esthibaliz: Keep you aware with all the relative of us, continue supporting us and keep listening our music!

La Entrevista

saludos amigos! este fin de mes les tengo esta gran entrevista con una banda con estilo propio y muchas ganas de dejar huella dentro del Metal y la escena nacional en México, Melphomene! el cual nos dejan y nos dicen quienes son ellos!

 

Saludos! Amigos! Muchas gracias de saber de ustedes como una gran banda de México!

 

¿Cómo han estado amigos?

 

Melphomene: Hola que tal!! Hemos estado, muy bien, muy ocupados y contentos con Melphomene

 

¿Cómo se formó su banda?

 

Mario: La banda surge poco a poco empezando cuando Esthíbaliz y yo comenzamos a rescatar muchas canciones viejas que teníamos ahí guardadas desde hace tiempo.

 

Son canciones que por una u otra razón no habíamos utilizado en otros proyectos musicales. Entonces decidimos rescatarlas, desempolvarlas, actualizarlas y a partir de eso es que creamos un proyecto aparte para poder tocarlas, así nace Melphomene.

 

¿Cuál es el significado de su nombre de la banda?

 

Mario: bien, Melpómene es la musa griega de la tragedia y anteriormente era considerada musa del canto, la armonía y era considerada la madre de las sirenas. Tomando esto en cuenta y la extraordinaria coz de Esthíbaliz, decidimos que era un nombre adecuado para la banda.

 

Esthibaliz, ¿Es tu nombre real o cuál es tu verdadero nombre? 

 

Esthibaliz: Así es, es mi nombre real, es un nombre de origen vasco y en esa lengua significa “hecha de miel” 

 

¿Cuál ha sido tu formación musical y vocal?

 

Esthíbaliz: Mi formación vocal ha sido principalmente dentro del canto clásico lo que em ha permitido desarrollar una técnica y un rango vocal amplios. Además del canto clásico, me gustan muchos estilos musicales y trato de integrar estos estilos y sus técnicas a mi repertorio vocal. Estudié la carrera de canto en la Escuela Superior de Música en México y tomé clases particulares de canto clásico durante muchos años.

 

¿Cuáles son tus influencias, grupos o vocalistas que te hayan influido?

 

Esthíbaliz: mi principal influencia y cantante favorita es la soprano Joan Sutherland, así también Tarja y Nightwish han sido una fuerte influencia y bandas como Dream Theater, Aesma Daeva, Rhapsody, Within Temptation y artistas pop como Michael Jackson y Madonna.

 

¿A que te dedicas fuera de los escenarios, hobbies?

 

 Esthíbaliz: Fuera de los escenarios me sigo dedicando %100 a la música y al arte. Soy maestra de canto particular y llevo un coro con mis alumnos, estudio canto, actuación y baile para seguir con mi crecimiento artístico.

 

¿Cuál es la esencia de Melphomene, que nos quieren compartir?

 

Mario: pues principalmente queremos compartir lo que somos, lo que nos gusta, las ideas que nos inspiran y que nos hacen componer la música, compartir la maravillosa voz de Esthibaliz dentro de un género que nos apasiona desde hace años pero que no habíamos tenido la oportunidad de explorar. Melphomene es eso, sentimientos, ideas, ideales, inspiración, exploración, experimentación y sueños de todos los formamos la banda.

 

¿Qué nos puedes decir de su EP "Destructive Crescendo"? ¿Cómo fue la producción y la lírica del disco?

 

Ignacio: Fue un proceso bastante curioso y divertido ya que yo apenas acababa de integrarme al proyecto cuando comenzamos las grabaciones del EP, por lo que básicamente las canciones se fueron armando poco a poco.

 

Mauricio: Las ideas ya estaban bastante claras y por eso llevarlas a cabo no fue nada complicado. El tracking de las baterías se realizó en un par de días y el resto de los instrumentos se fueron agregando poco a poco en el home-studio de Mario.

 

¿Tú escribiste algunas canciones?

 

Esthíbaliz: Si, yo y Mario nos encargamos en su mayoría de las canciones pero también hay colaboraciones de otros compañeros. Always y Little Sins fue compuesta en su totalidad por Mario; Mother Night es una canción compuesta por nuestro amigo Jorge Castilla; Howl es una canción compuesta por Omar Silva quién fue el bajista de la banda en su primera etapa y yo me encargué de escribir la letra y montar las melodías de voz; igualmente en Maiden & Death la leta se elaboró en colaboración con otro amigo nuestro, Adrián Gallardo y la música de la canción es mía en su totalidad; por último en Destructive Crescendo Mario y yo trabajamos a la par en música y letra para crearla.

 

¿Tendrá algún video clip?

 

Ignacio: Justamente en estos momentos estamos en charlas para llevar a cabo un video y tener buen material visual para compartirlo con toda la gente que nos escucha. Ya les daremos noticias más adelante y dentro de poco tiempo.

 

¿Qué opinas de que ganaron la encuesta para el Female Metal Voices Fest? El cual nuestra amiga Helcanen nos compartió.

 

Mario: La verdad es que fue una muy grata sorpresa el saber que contamos con un apoyo tan grande de parte de toda la gente que votó por nosotros. Por supuesto estamos emocionados de haber ganado, ya que en la encuesta había bandas con excelente calidad musical y de todas partes del mundo. El haber ganado la encuesta ha logrado que mucha gente no solo de México sino de varias partes del mundo nos esté conociendo mediante nuestra música.

 

¿Qué opinan del Female Metal Voices Fest?

 

Esthíbaliz: Que queremos tocar en el!  Jajaja. Es un festival que ya tiene largo tiempo haciéndose y que ha sido escaparate de bandas importantes dentro género y que también ha dado cabida a bandas que van emergiendo. En verdad nos gustaría poder participar en el festival en un futuro no muy lejano.

 

¿Algo más que nos quieran compartir?

 

Esthíbaliz: Simplemente que se mantengan al tanto de todo lo relacionado con Melphomene, que nos sigan apoyando como lo han hecho hasta ahora, que sigan escuchando nuestra música y muchas gracias por todo el cariño y el apoyo recibido!
