This time our friend Daniela Nolden, or simply Dani Nolden, lead singer of Brazilian Heavy Metal band Shadowside, she gave us this interview! Really a great person and woman! Thank you my friend! 

 

Here a little bio of her, Dani Nolden was born on December 26, 1982 in the coastal city of Santos, Brazil, located about 70 km from the city of São Paulo and 500 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro. She started her life in music at the age of 8, taking piano lessons, but after she was introduced to bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Judas Priest and Skid Row, she took a completely different path of what their parents were expecting from her. She then became a Metal/Rock singer and songwriter, being with many independent bands until founding Shadowside back in 2001.

 

In the following years, Dani Nolden and her band Shadowside: in 2006, Shadowside supported German Heavy Metal icons Helloween during their tour in Brazil; in 2007, the band won the AirPlay Direct‘s  “All Things Digital Hard Rock/Heavy Metal” among over 1,000 bands worldwide; and due to that exposure they signed a major worldwide deal and began touring the United States, Europe and South America, performing with bands such as Iron Maiden, W.A.S.P., Kittie, Sepultura and Temple of Brutality (feat. David Ellefson of Megadeth).

 

Her biggest influences in music include Heavy Metal legends Iron Maiden, Helloween, Nightwish and Sepultura, Hard Rock giants W.A.S.P., Skid Row and Guns N’ Roses, and more modern or contemporary bands like Disturbed, Soilwork and Rammstein.

Hello my friend Dani!  have you been?

 

Dani: Great, thank you! It’s a pleasure to talk to you once again.

 

As you have been this year 2014, with the band, tours, projects?

 

Dani: I have been working hard on the new Shadowside album with the guys in the band. The year has been pretty much dedicated to that, we haven’t played live much. We still have a few shows left to play, however the tour in 2013 was very extensive, we played over 60 shows during the tour in support of the album Inner Monster Out so we decided it was time to work on new material. I think we should have it completely written by the end of the year and will begin recordings at some point in 2015.

 

The last year, had an awesome tour! in Europe, which was the experience?

 

Dani: It was fantastic! We played many places we had not played before and had the chance to visit some others that we had been to in the past, such as Poland, Finland, Spain, Germany and many others… while it was our first time in Sweden, Czech Republic, France, Bulgaria and so many others as well. It was very intense as we had shows nearly every single day and when we did have a day off, it was a day dedicated to a trip 800 to 1000km long to get to the next concert location. So we had no rest whatsoever and for two months in a row, our lives were nothing but soundcheck-show-sleep. But it’s always a great experience. We always get to the end of the tour much more mature than when we started it and full of ideas for a new record.

 

The good and bad of the Tour in Europe?

 

Dani: I don’t think there’s a bad side to it other than being extremely tired at the end of it and not seeing your family and loved ones for two months. That’s always the hard part and the bad side of all tours. The good side is that we get to breathe music 24/7 for two months. We get to see personally what our fans think of the music that we worked so hard on. There’s no better reward for a musician than to see people from all over the world singing your songs and coming to you after the show to say how much they enjoyed the show.

 

Also an excellent detailed an acoustic tribute to a great Singer and icon Dio!  on MTV in your country, that was the experience?

 

Dani: It was a lot of fun actually! I hadn’t had a chance to perform Rainbow in the Dark for a very long time. We recorded that song back in 2005, however it wasn’t an acoustic version. This time MTV Brazil was doing a special for the International Day of Rock and they wanted a band to represent 4 different styles of Rock, playing an acoustic version of an icon of that style. We were chosen to represent Heavy Metal and thought Dio would be a good way to demonstrate Heavy Metal. 

 

Dani Nolden tell us about the future, new recording or video. New album?

 

Dani: We have a video out now, we released it recently. It’s for the song Habitchual from the Inner Monster Out album and it’s available at www.shadowside.ws . We have a new album in the plans now, we are working on the new songs… there are already a few ideas being worked on and we should have the album written by the end of 2014. We will begin recordings at some point in 2015 so I do believe we will have something new for people to listen to next year. I can promise you it will be heavy and angry! (laughs)

 

Any duet in live or recording with someone else?

 

Dani: There is nothing planned at the moment, but I am definitely open to the idea. I like to contribute to other projects or have other musicians contribute to what we’re doing with Shadowside.

 

In addition, when we have Dani, with Shadowside in Latin America?

 

Dani: Soon, I hope! It’s a shame we’ve never been able to tour Latin America. We’ve played 30 countries all over the world and we have not played Latin America… but everyone needs to know that it’s not because we don’t want to! Bands don’t get to choose where they play unfortunately, we depend on concert promoters being interested in bringing us or having the possibility to bring us. We’ve had concert promoters contact us from Argentina, Paraguay, Costa Rica but unfortunately nothing has been confirmed until now. We hope we have the chance to see our latin american fans and friends real soon!

 

How do you feel, you're the third consecutive year the best singer of Rock / Metal in Brazil?

 

Dani: Very grateful. It’s a popular voting so it’s the fans’s choice… it’s not something that can be forced and it’s definitely something that can’t be expected. I never expect any of this when I go up on stage… I just try to do my best, make people enjoy the show and the music and I just want Shadowside to do well. I don’t want all the glory for myself, neither do the guys, so we all work hard to make Shadowside shine. The consequence of Shadowside doing well is having people remember us when it comes to that kind of “best of the year” thing. There’s lots of great singers out there and I don’t believe it’s possible to say one is better than the other because we all have to master pretty much the same techniques, so it’s only a matter of preference, taste… and I’m extremely grateful that the fans felt that way about me.

 

What do you think that what happened with for the guilt of the world cup?​​, is unfair to its population

 

Dani: Well, we all wanted to hope, but we all saw that coming as well. We knew the Brazilian team was definitely not prepared. The team had no strategy. People going to the stadium during the World Cup were also not the real soccer fans. They were people who had money and people who usually go to the stadium here are not people who have a lot of money, they are people who really love the sport and they know the chants, they support the team… and they did not have access to the tickets because they were extremely expensive. The team had no strategy, it just got lucky and ended up on the semifinals. It was sad but it’s a good thing, because now they have to start taking other teams seriously and realize they’re not going to win without putting on a real effort. This happens everytime someone believes they’re the best in something, that goes for music as well… if you believe you’re the best, you stop working hard and someone catches up.

 

What do you think of events around the world in special about ISIS and the problema with the Ebola in many countries, I think we should raise awareness, as a public figure my friend you can tell us?

 

Dani: I was in New York City recently and those are definitely topics that are being talked about frequently there, as well as here in Brazil too. The ISIS is a concern, not only for North Americans but for the entire world. I'm not one to blame religion on this case. I think all religions have a very beautiful and spiritual side. I blame extremists. People who use their religion, or whatever else they decide to use, as an excuse. There's no excuse good enough to kill innocent people, there's no excuse to behead someone. You just don't kill civilians when you are at war... after visiting the 9/11 Memorial during my trip to New York, it became easy to put myself in their shoes and feel their pain. The innocents have nothing to do with whatever political dispute exists and should not be dragged to this conflict like they are being dragged now.

 

Regarding the Ebola, that is a constant concern for everyone, especially those who travel frequently. There are cases appearing everywhere but people should know that with proper care, they can avoid catching the disease. There is an article on the CDC website that everyone should read regarding Ebola prevention. It's important to know about that, even if you think you're entirely safe, even if there's no reported cases in your area. As there is already a case in the USA and a reported death in Madrid, it doesn't hurt to make sure you know how to avoid it.

Esta vez nuestro amigo Daniela Nolden, o simplemente Dani Nolden, cantante de la banda brasileña de heavy metal Shadowside, nos dio esta entrevista! Realmente una gran persona y una mujer! Gracias a mi amiga!

 

Aquí una pequeña biografía de ella, Dani Nolden nació el 26 de diciembre de 1982 en la ciudad costera de Santos, Brasil, situada a unos 70 km de la ciudad de São Paulo y 500 km de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro. Ella comenzó su vida en la música a la edad de 8, tomar clases de piano, pero después de que ella se introdujo a bandas como Guns N 'Roses, Judas Priest y Skid Row, ella tomó un camino completamente diferente de lo que sus padres esperaban de ella. Luego se convirtió en un cantante de Metal / Rock y compositora, estar con muchas bandas independientes hasta fundar Shadowside en 2001.

Dani: Muy bien gracias, es un placer hablar contigo nuevamente.

 

Como ha sido 2l años 2014 para la banda?

 

Dani: He trabajado con los chicos para el nuevo álbum de Shadowside. Hemos dedicado la mayoría del año en eso, casi no nos hemos presentado en vivo.

Aun nos quedan pendientes algunos shows pero el tour de 2013 se extendió demasiado. Tocamos en alrededor de 60 shows durante el tour de "Inner monster out" así que decidimos que era hora de trabajar en el nuevo material.

Esperamos tenerlo completamente escrito para fin de año y comenzar a grabarlo en 2015.

 

El año pasado tuvieron un tour increíble por Europa. Como fue esa experiencia?

 

Dani: Fue fantástica! tocamos en muchos lugares en los que no habíamos tocado antes y tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar muchos otros lugares en los que ya habíamos estado, tales como: Polonia, Finlandia, España, Alemania y muchos otros.

 

También fue nuestra primera vez en Suiza, Republica Checa, rancia, Bulgaria y muchos otros. Fue muy extenso, prácticamente tuvimos un show por día y cuando por fin teníamos un día libre, nos dedicábamos a viajar aproximadamente 800 a 1000 km para llegar al siguiente lugar en el que nos presentamos.

 

No tuvimos descanso, fueron dos meses en los que no paramos, todo era soundcheck - show - dormir. Pero siempre es una gran experiencia. Cuando terminas el tour te das cuenta de que has madurado, a comparación de cuando iniciamos.

La mente se nos llenó de ideas nuevas para el siguiente disco.

 

Lo bueno y lo malo del tour por Europa.

 

Dani: Creo que lo peor de los tours es cansarte al extremo y no ver a tus seres queridos durante dos meses. Esa siempre es la parte más difícil de los tours.

 

El lado bueno es que durante 2 meses todo lo que respiras es música. Nos gusta ver en persona a nuestros fans y nos gusta enterarnos de lo que piensan sobre nuestra música.

No hay mejor recompensa para un músico, que escuchar a gente alrededor del mundo cantar tus canciones, y que vengan después del show a decirte lo mucho que disfrutaron del show.

 

Háblanos de tu experiencia en el tributo de MTV hacía el cantante Dio. Fue un increíble tributo acústico.

 

Dani: Fue muy divertido, no había tenido la oportunidad de interpretar "Rainbow in the dark" desde hace mucho tiempo. Grabamos esa canción en 2005, aunque no fue una versión acústica.

MTV Brasil estaba haciendo un especial por el día internacional del rock y buscaban una banda que representara 4 estilos distintos de rock y que tocara una versión acústica de un ícono como lo es Dio.

Fuimos elegidos para representar el heavy metal y pensamos que Dio sería el exponente perfecto para el género.

 

Háblanos sobre el futuro, habrá nuevo vídeo o álbum?

 

Dani: Recientemente sacamos uno para la canción "Habitchual" del disco Inner monster out y está disponible en: www.shadowside.ws tenemos planes para un nuevo álbum y ya estamos trabajando en nuevas canciones.

 

Aproximadamente tendremos el álbum ya escrito para finales de 2014 y las grabaciones empezaran en el año 2015, así que espero que la gente escuche nuestro nuevo material.

Solo puedo asegurarles que será fuerte y estará lleno de furia.

 

 

Harán algún dueto?

 

Dani: No hay nada planeado por el momento pero me agrada la idea. Me gusta construir en otros proyectos o que otros músicos contribuyan con el proyecto de Shadowside.

 

Alguna vez visitaras Latino américa?

 

Dani: Espero que sea pronto! es una pena que nunca hayamos visitado Latino américa, hemos tocado en 30 países diferentes pero no hemos estado en Latino américa.

Quiero que sepan que no es por qué no queramos ir, la verdad es que las bandas no pueden escoger en donde tocar, dependemos de que los promotores quieran y puedan traernos.

Hemos tenido contacto con gente de Argentina, Paraguay y Costa rica pero desafortunadamente nada se ha concretado. Esperamos visitarlos muy pronto.

 

Cómo te sientes de ser la mejor cantante de Rock/metal por tercer año consecutivo en Brasil.

 

Dani: Muy agradecida, es una votación de los fans, es algo que no se puede forzar y definitivamente siempre es algo inesperado.

 

Cuando subo al escenario no espero nada, simplemente trato de ser la mejor y hacer que la gente disfrute del show. Solo quiero que Shadowside haga las cosas bien.

 

No quiero que toda la gloria sea para mí, tampoco para los chicos, entre todos queremos que Shadowside brille. Las consecuencias de que estamos haciéndolo bien se demuestran cuando la gente nos hace ganar ese premio.

Hay muchos grandes cantantes por ahí y no creo que sea posible decir que uno es mejor que otro, porque todos usamos técnicas parecidas, así que todo es cuestión de preferencia y gusto.

Estoy profundamente agradecida de que los fans nos quieran de esta manera.

 

Cuál es tu opinión con respecto a lo que sucedió en la copa de futbol en Brasil? Fue injusto para para la población.

 

Dani: Bueno todos teníamos esperanzas pero al final lo veíamos venir. Sabíamos que el equipo brasileño no estaba preparado, no tenían una estrategia concreta.

 

Hubo mucha gente que asistió a los estadios de futbol pero que no eran fanáticos reales del deporte, simplemente era gente que tenía el dinero para pagarlo.

 

La verdadera afición es gente sin dinero, que realmente ama el deporte y hasta se sabe los cantos del equipo. Pero los verdaderos fanáticos no podían pagar por su entrada por que eran exageradamente cara.

 

El equipo no tenía estrategia, solo tuvieron suerte y llegaron a las semifinales. Pero siento que lo que pasó fue muy bueno, aunque fue triste pero sirve para que empiecen a tomar las cosas en serio y para que se den cuenta que no van a ganar a menos de que pongan todo su esfuerzo en ello.

Esto pasa cada vez que alguien se cree el mejor para algo, eso aplica para la música para también, si creen que son los mejores dejan de trabajar y alguien llega a superarlos.

 

Que piensas sobre lo que está pasando en el estado islámico y sobre el problema de Ebola alrededor del mundo? Creo que como figura pública hay que crear consciencia.

 

Dani: Estuve recientemente en Nueva York y estos temas son definitivamente frecuentes, así como en Brasil. Sobre el estado Islámico es una preocupación a nivel mundial.

 

No quiero culpar a la religión, porque pienso que cada religión tiene su lado hermoso y espiritual. Culpo a los extremistas, que usan su religión como excusa para hacer estas cosas.

 

No hay excusa válida para matar gente, especialmente si están en guerra, no debe morir gente inocente. Después de visitar el memorial 9/11 en Nueva York durante mi viaje, fue fácil ponerme en sus zapatos y sentir su dolor.

 

Los inocentes no tienen nada que ver con los conflictos políticos que hay en el mundo, no deberían ser involucrados como lo están siendo ahorita.

 

Con respecto al Ebola, es una preocupación para todos a nivel mundial, especialmente para los que viajan constantemente. Hay caso por todas partes pero la gente debe conocer bien las medidas de prevención para evitarlo.

 

Hay un artículo en la página de CDC que todos deberían de leer, sobre prevención de Ebola. ES muy importante estar informados sobre esto, porque nadie está exento, incluso si no hay casos registrados en tu país o tu área local.

 

Así como hay casos en Estados Unidos y hasta en Madrid, siento que no hace daño estar bien informados por poder evitarlo.
