Italian musician and visual artist Noemi Aurora, singer/songwriter of Helalyn Flowers band of Electro Rock and Visual Artist and Band designer for Toxic Visions Design.
Thanks for this interview! Happy New Year! Is a pleasure for me to have this opportunity with you again! A big hug my friend!
Noemi What have you done all this time?
Noemi:
As for our latest album “Nyctophilia”, most of primal input came from my voice and melody as well as rhythmic and basic structures that I use to demo before we arrange ‘em together and give ‘em an harmonic layer and overall production. A memorable moment when we do an album is when we jam in the studio during definitive recording sessions, as we have a chance to be amazed by our own work without approaching songwriting with too much foresight.
What surprises do you have for this new 2020?
Noemi:
After the release of our new single “Suicidal Birds” our forthcoming album “Àiresis” will be ready to land this planet during next Spring or early Summer. At the same time, we are working on parallel individual projects which will include releases from Maxx Maryan’s solo acts Black Shine Fever and IMJUDAS as well as me writing new songs for a solo project o’mine. Also, I am keeping on working with international bands with my art factory Toxic Visions Design. Not last, I am working on new paintings that I foresee they will be exhibited in Rome next summer.
What musical influences do you have today? Have your musical tastes changed? Something lighter, heavier or?
Noemi:
I’d rather say that my tastes didn’t change actually but kind of evolved. My main source of inspiration is also within albums which date back to one decade ago at least as nowadays music doesn’t fit me that much; I don’t like current progressive absence of melody and harmony. Albums by artists like Queen, Bowie, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush etc always remain at the top of my pleasure. What I like to do in Helalyn Flowers is to catch elements from wonderful decades like the 80s and the 90s and contextualize ‘em within ourselves, our ambience and our times.

Tell us a little about the new liric video Suicidal Birds!
Noemi:
Well, we opted to not using band members but rather to leave a more universal interpretation to what the song itself is actually expressing. We often use metaphors and allegories in our lyrics that might result hard in a daily context, so we wanted everyone identify with the anonymous characters in the video, like if we brought our deeper thoughts in the streets. There is such an intimate correlation between suburban landscapes and inner dialogue. We like to dig the darker aspects of this dichotomy.
Tell us about your new album 'Airesis'
Noemi:
Once again, we opted for an ancient Greek term for the album title: “Àiresis” means something like “choice”, which is somewhat the bloodline that’s running between one song and another. Musically, it has much more loads of guitars! Both groovy and atmospheric parts are even more focused than ever. I have had fun with including different elements into my vocal plant, like some operatic and for the first time the use of my Italian language for an entire song.
Do you have any new collaboration? some duet?
Noemi:
Like all of you may have noticed, it is now the second time that I am duetting with Maxx. Our duet version of “Beyond” on the previous album was so intense and the feeling it emanated was so strong that the crowd couldn’t not notice. So we wanted to underline it by doing a new one with “Suicidal Birds”, and probably we’ll do it again whenever we want. It’s not a market thing, we feel incredibly good when we do it. That’s what cares actually.

How many more videos will be available for this new album soon?
Noemi:
“Àiresis” includes so many potential hit singles that probably there will be a bunch of videos, of course according to promotional plan about the album.
When will we have the opportunity to have Noemi in América and Latin América?
Noemi:
I really hope so! We have so many fans out there waiting for us! South American crowd is so warm and reactive. I’d like to share energy and emotions with all of you!

Noemí ¿Qué has hecho todo este tiempo?

En cuanto a nuestro último álbum "Nyctophilia", la mayor parte de la entrada principal provino de mi voz y melodía, así como de las estructuras rítmicas y básicas que utilizo para hacer una demostración antes de organizarlas juntas y darles una capa armónica y una producción general. Un momento memorable cuando hacemos un álbum es cuando nos atascamos en el estudio durante las sesiones de grabación definitivas, ya que tenemos la oportunidad de sorprendernos con nuestro propio trabajo sin acercarnos a la composición de canciones con demasiada previsión.
¿Qué sorpresas tienes para este nuevo 2020?

Después del lanzamiento de nuestro nuevo sencillo "Suicidal Birds", nuestro próximo álbum "Àiresis" estará listo para aterrizar este planeta durante la próxima primavera o principios del verano. Al mismo tiempo, estamos trabajando en proyectos individuales paralelos que incluirán lanzamientos de los actos en solitario de Maxx Maryan, Black Shine Fever e IMJUDAS, así como de mí escribiendo nuevas canciones para un proyecto en solitario. Además, sigo trabajando con bandas internacionales con mi fábrica de arte Toxic Visions Design. ¿Qué influencias musicales tienes hoy? ¿Han cambiado tus gustos musicales? Algo más ligero, más pesado o?

Prefiero decir que mis gustos no cambiaron realmente sino que evolucionaron. Mi principal fuente de inspiración también está en los álbumes que datan de hace una década, al menos, ya que hoy en día la música no me queda muy bien; No me gusta la actual ausencia progresiva de melodía y armonía. Los álbumes de artistas como Queen, Bowie, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, etc. siempre permanecen en la cima de mi placer. Lo que me gusta hacer en Helalyn Flowers es captar elementos de décadas maravillosas como los años 80 y 90 y contextualizarlos dentro de nosotros mismos, nuestro ambiente y nuestros tiempos.

Bueno, optamos por no usar miembros de la banda, sino por dejar una interpretación más universal de lo que la canción en realidad está expresando. A menudo usamos metáforas y alegorías en nuestras letras que pueden resultar difíciles en un contexto diario, por lo que queríamos que todos se identificaran con los personajes anónimos en el vídeo, como si trajéramos nuestros pensamientos más profundos en las calles. Existe una correlación tan íntima entre los paisajes suburbanos y el diálogo interno. Nos gusta excavar los aspectos más oscuros de esta dicotomía.

Una vez más, optamos por un término griego antiguo para el título del álbum: "Àiresis" significa algo así como "elección", que es de alguna manera la línea de sangre que corre entre una canción y otra. Musicalmente, ¡tiene muchas más guitarras! Tanto las partes maravillosas como las atmosféricas están aún más enfocadas que nunca. Me he divertido al incluir diferentes elementos en mi planta vocal, como alguna ópera y, por primera vez, el uso de mi idioma italiano para una canción completa.
¿Tienes alguna nueva colaboración? un dueto?

Como todos habrán notado, ahora es la segunda vez que hago un dueto con Maxx. Nuestra versión a dúo de "Beyond" en el álbum anterior fue tan intensa y la sensación que emanaba fue tan fuerte que la multitud no pudo darse cuenta. Así que queríamos subrayarlo haciendo uno nuevo con "Suicidal Birds", y probablemente lo haremos nuevamente cuando queramos. No es algo del mercado, nos sentimos increíblemente bien cuando lo hacemos. Eso es lo que realmente importa.
Otros nombres externos se confirmarán pronto.
¿Cuántos vídeos más estarán disponibles para este nuevo álbum pronto?
