¿Tell us the history of your band, how was born Lellahell?

In 2010 Redouane Aouameur (A.k.a Lelahel) who is no stranger to the Algerian metal scene as he has already been in other bands including (Neanderthalia, Litham, Carnavage and Devast) Founded It. Following the completion of ‘Al Intihar’ EP, fellow Algerian metallers Slave Blaster and Nihil, completed the group in January 2012. In August 2012 “Goressimo Records” officially released the band’s debut EP.

The first full length album of Lelahell “Al Insane ...The (Re)Birth of Abderrahmane " mixed and mastered by “Ivan of Anthropocide Studio” and released the 5th of august 2014 by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions (Coffins, Haemorrhage, Abcess,..) From USA.

The first of January 2016 Redouane Aouameur released “Highway to Lelahell "a 52 minutes documentary.This movie talks about his career, enriched for 23 years, which blends with the history of Metal in Algeria, from the Black Decade until today.

In March 2016 the band embarked for a mini tour which took place in Austria and Switzerland

In 2017 Lelahell kick off a European tour in two weeks. After the tour Lelahell entered the Fermata studio (Algiers) to record the guitars and vox for the second full length ‘Alif’. The album Alif features one of the most admired players in the world of technical death metal - Hannes Grossmann (ex Necrophagist, ex Obscura, Alkaloid, Blotted Science, Hate Eternal) on drums and was mixed and mastered at the famous Hertz Recording Studio (Bialystock, Poland) by Sławek and Wojtek Wieslawski (Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated, Hate).

The album contains 10 tracks of intensive death metal riffs with an Algerian folklore accent, combined with fast blast beats and technical rhythms.

In January 2018 Lelahell signed a record deal with the legendary Slovak label Metal Age Productions to release ‘Alif’ on June 15th 2018.

¿What does mean the name of the band?

Lelahel (with one 'l' letter in the end) is an angel of the zodiac exercising dominion over love, art, science and fortune. We appeal to this being of light for good luck and good fortune. We added an 'l' because there is already an Italian rock band named lelahel, and lelahel is also my nickname. So to make difference between them I added a second 'l' in the end of lelahel.

¿What Musical Influences have the band?

The music of Lelahell is old death metal with some local influences. It is fast, brutal and melodic at the same time. Like a sandstorm crossing the desert valley!

Death Metal is for me a musical style very strong and great! With combinations musical complex, Goth, Doom, Technical, Symphonic… etc, for you ¿How do you combine a Metal style with the Folklore of your country?

The second main influence is from our local music. In our childhood all of us listened to some local and traditional music on the radio, so we decided to add a subtle of that in our music, not that much, because we Play Death Metal!

We use those melodies in the riffs, and we combine them with sometimes blast beats sometimes we use also local rythms played in the death metal way!

Your second album, “Alif” is good! ¿What was the writing process for the album, the Lyric?

For the creative process of “Alif” I worked mainly on the guitar riffs and the rhythms to find the good combination, and after that I adjusted the whole thing in the right tempo. But it is different from each release, so for the third full length I will try something different!

It started in 2015, but due to some hand injury (tendinitis) I was forced to stop playing guitar for almost one year. In the spring 2016 I recovered from injury and started to work seriously on that album. It took almost 3 months to finalize all the tracks. The main idea was to deliver something more attractive than the previous album this is why we worked very closely on the tempo changes and the songs structures.

And after that came the lyrics, that were adjusted to each songs

As was the creative process and production of the album, I know you collaborated with Hannes Grossman excellent musician! Tell us your experience?

In the beginning of the writing process of Alif I was searching for a drummer for recording that album, I contacted many drummers and the one that really caught my attention was Hannes Grossmann, because he is very talented, very professional and more he has something that must of today drummers don’t have any more is taking artistic risks, he also plays extreme metal but he can’t play other things and he is able to do that!

First we were going to work by internet, but I decided to go to Germany in his studio (Mordor sound studio) to record the drums with him to give the human interaction feeling to that album, and it was a very good decision.

Hannes is a great guy! The communication was very good; just listen to the result!

¿What does mean the cover art of your new album?

The cover artwork is a courtesy of German artist, Björn Gooßes of Killustrations (Dew scented, Aborted, Sodom,...). When Lelahell got in touch regarding a possible artwork, Bjorn knew this would be something special.

I approached him with a quite elaborate lyrical concept about a person named Abderrahmane and his tale of woe. He had to convert that into a striking image and He came up with Abderrahmane sitting on desert soil, while drawing a circle of blood around him in order to protect himself from danger. I think it turned out to be a quite unusual image and captures the feeling we wants to evoke with our music

¿How is the Metal scene in Algeria?

The Algerian metal scene, is going better those 2 last years. Some good new promising bands were formed, some good stuffs were released and there are more concerts than before! Let see what the future will bring us!

¿What would you say about your new album?

Each Lelahell release is conceptually linked to the character of Abderrahmane, yet focusing on another evolutionary step—another chapter in his own book. In the lyrics of our first EP "Al Intihar" Abderrahmane is tired of his own life full of constraints, so he commits suicide. Our first album "Al Insane... the (Re) Birth of Aberrahmane" deals with his rebirth. Our new album "Alif" is now focusing on Abderrahmane's first steps in his new life, just like a child learning to speak, walk, learning about the world around him. Yet this is full of foes and fears, that's why Abderrahmane needs to save himself from those dangers. Killustrations' interpretation of this concept with Abderrahmane sitting amidst a blood circle in a vermin-infested desert perfectly captured the mood we had in mind.

Alif is the first letter of the Arabic alphabet. In Arabic calligraphy we use it as main reference to determine the size of the next characters. We choose this name because this album will be the main musical reference of the next upcoming releases.

The music of Alif is brutal and melodic at the same time, the fans should expect a new sound in the death metal, the sound of the Algerian Death Metal!

¿Would you like to combine some other style even more brutal in your style? If so, what would it be?

Maybe some brutal black metal, why not?

Darkzen: Of course! For me the Death must be Brutal! Continuous, Fast, that emotion does not end when listening to each song, album or style, with guttural voices that one as a fan feels the aggression, strength or dark emotion! Combining Black will give you an even darker touch!

¿Cuéntanos la historia de tu banda, cómo nació Lellahell?

En 2010, Redouane Aouameur (A.k. a Lelahel), que no es ajeno a la escena del metal argelino, ya que ha estado en otras bandas como (Neanderthalia, Litham, Carnavage y Devast), la fundaron. Tras la finalización del EP 'Al Intihar', los compañeros metaleros argelinos Slave Blaster y Nihil completaron el grupo en enero de 2012. En agosto de 2012, "Goressimo Records" lanzó oficialmente el EP debut de la banda.

El primer álbum de larga duración de Lelahell "Al Insane... El (Re) nacimiento de Abderrahmane" mezclado y masterizado por "Ivan of Anthropocide Studio" y lanzado el 5 de agosto de 2014 por Horror Pain Gore Death Productions (ataúdes, hemorragia, Abcess , ..) De EE. UU.

El primero de enero de 2016 Redouane Aouameur lanzó "Highway to Lelahell", un documental de 52 minutos. Esta película habla de su carrera, enriquecida durante 23 años, que se mezcla con la historia del Metal en Argelia, desde la Década Negra hasta hoy.

En marzo de 2016, la banda se embarcó para una mini gira que tuvo lugar en Austria y Suiza.

En 2017, Lelahell comenzará una gira europea en dos semanas. Después de la gira, Lelahell ingresó al estudio Fermata (Argel) para grabar las guitarras y la voz para el segundo largo 'Alif'. El álbum Alif presenta a uno de los jugadores más admirados en el mundo del death metal técnico - Hannes Grossmann (ex Necrophagist, ex Obscura, Alkaloid, Blotted Science, Hate Eternal) en la batería y fue mezclado y masterizado en el famoso Hertz Recording Studio (Bialystock , Polonia) por Sławek y Wojtek Wieslawski (Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated, Hate).

El álbum contiene 10 pistas de riffs intensivos de Death Metal con acento de folklore argelino, combinados con ritmos rápidos y ritmos técnicos.

En enero de 2018, Lelahell firmó un contrato discográfico con el legendario sello eslovaco Metal Age Productions para lanzar 'Alif' el 15 de junio de 2018.

¿Qué significa el nombre de la banda?

Lelahel (con una letra 'l' al final) es un ángel del zodíaco que ejerce dominio sobre el amor, el arte, la ciencia y la fortuna. Apelamos a este ser de luz para la buena suerte y la buena fortuna. Añadimos una 'l' porque ya hay una banda de rock italiana llamada lelahel, y lelahel también es mi apodo. Entonces para hacer la diferencia entre ellos agregué una segunda 'l' al final de lelahel.

¿Qué influencias musicales tiene la banda?

La música de Lelahell es death metal clásico con algunas influencias locales. Es rápido, brutal y melódico al mismo tiempo. ¡Como una tormenta de arena cruzando el valle del desierto!

¡Death Metal es para mí un estilo musical muy fuerte y genial! Con combinaciones musicales complejas, Goth, Doom, Técnica, Sinfónica... etc, para ti ¿Cómo combinas un estilo del Metal con el Folklore de tu país?

La segunda influencia principal es de nuestra música local. En nuestra niñez, todos escuchamos música local y tradicional en la radio, así que decidimos agregarle algo sutil a nuestra música, ¡no tanto, porque jugamos al Death Metal!

Usamos esas melodías en los riffs, y las combinamos con ritmos a veces explosivos; a veces utilizamos también ritmos locales tocados en el modo death metal.

Tu segundo álbum, "Alif" es bueno! ¿Cuál fue el proceso de escritura del álbum, la Letra?

Para el proceso creativo de "Alif", trabajé principalmente en los riffs de guitarra y los ritmos para encontrar la buena combinación, y después de eso ajusté todo en el tempo correcto. Pero es diferente de cada lanzamiento, ¡por lo que para el tercer largometraje intentaré algo diferente!

Comenzó en 2015, pero debido a una lesión en la mano (tendinitis) me vi obligado a dejar de tocar la guitarra durante casi un año. En la primavera de 2016 me recuperé de una lesión y comencé a trabajar seriamente en ese álbum. Tomó casi 3 meses para finalizar todas las pistas. La idea principal era ofrecer algo más atractivo que el álbum anterior, por eso trabajamos muy de cerca en los cambios de tempo y las estructuras de las canciones. Y después de eso vinieron las letras, que se ajustaron a cada canción

Al igual que el proceso creativo y la producción del álbum, sé que colaboraste con el excelente músico de Hannes Grossman. Cuéntanos tu experiencia?

Al principio del proceso de escritura de Alif estaba buscando un baterista para grabar ese álbum, contacté a muchos bateristas y el que realmente me llamó la atención fue Hannes Grossmann, porque es muy talentoso, muy profesional y tiene más que eso. El baterista de hoy en día no tiene más, está tomando riesgos artísticos, también juega con el metal extremo pero no puede tocar otras cosas y ¡es capaz de hacer eso!

Primero íbamos a trabajar por Internet, pero decidí ir a Alemania en su estudio (estudio de sonido Mordor) para grabar la batería con él para darle la sensación de interacción humana a ese álbum, y fue una muy buena decisión.

Hannes es un gran tipo! La comunicación fue muy buena; solo escucha el resultado!

¿Qué significa la portada de tu nuevo álbum?

La portada es una cortesía del artista alemán, Björn Gooßes de Killustrations (Dew Scented, Aborted, Sodom, ...). Cuando Lelahell se puso en contacto con respecto a una posible obra de arte, Bjorn sabía que esto sería algo especial.

Me acerqué a él con un concepto lírico bastante elaborado sobre una persona llamada Abderrahmane y su historia de infortunio. Tuvo que convertir eso en una imagen impactante y encontró a Abderrahmane sentado en el suelo del desierto, mientras dibujaba un círculo de sangre a su alrededor para protegerse del peligro. Creo que resultó ser una imagen bastante inusual y captura la sensación que queremos evocar con nuestra música

¿Cómo es la escena Metal en Argelia?

La escena del metal argelino está mejorando esos dos últimos años. Se formaron algunas buenas y nuevas bandas prometedoras, se lanzaron algunas buenas cosas y hay más conciertos que antes. ¡Veamos qué nos traerá el futuro!

¿Qué dirías de tu nuevo álbum?

Cada versión de Lelahell está conceptualmente vinculada al personaje de Abderrahmane, pero se centra en otro paso evolutivo: otro capítulo en su propio libro. En las letras de nuestro primer EP "Al Intihar", Abderrahmane está cansado de su propia vida llena de restricciones, por lo que se suicida. Nuestro primer álbum "Al Insane ... el (Re) nacimiento de Aberrahmane" trata de su renacimiento. Nuestro nuevo álbum "Alif" se centra ahora en los primeros pasos de Abderrahmane en su nueva vida, como un niño que aprende a hablar, a caminar y a aprender sobre el mundo que lo rodea. Sin embargo, esto está lleno de enemigos y temores, por eso Abderrahmane necesita salvarse de esos peligros. La interpretación de Killustrations de este concepto con Abderrahmane sentado en medio de un círculo sanguíneo en un desierto infestado de bichos capturó perfectamente el estado de ánimo que teníamos en mente.

Alif es la primera letra del alfabeto árabe. En caligrafía árabe lo usamos como referencia principal para determinar el tamaño de los siguientes personajes. Elegimos este nombre porque este álbum será la principal referencia musical de los próximos lanzamientos.

¡La música de Alif es brutal y melódica al mismo tiempo, los fanáticos deben esperar un nuevo sonido en el death metal, el sonido del Death Metal argelino!

¿Te gustaría combinar algún otro estilo aún más brutal en tu estilo? Si es así, ¿cuál sería?

Tal vez algún Black Metal brutal, ¿por qué no?

Darkzen: Claro que sí! Para mí el Death debe de ser Brutal! Continuo, Rápido, que no acabe la emoción al escuchar cada canción, álbum o estilo, con voces guturales que uno como fan sienta la agresión, fuerza o emoción oscura! Combinando Black le dará un toque aún más oscuro!
