My friend Diva Satanic, talented, with a super voice and beautiful singer of the Spanish death metal band BLOODHUNTER, ... which was in the program La Voz with a super and outstanding presentation and a great female fronted in Spain and the world metal world!

Hello my friend Diva, how are you? Thank you for this second interview and to be able to chat a little about you. How is everything?

​

DSatanica:

​

Nice to talk to you again! I can not complain, this 2018 has been a busy year, we've been to some of the best festivals in the peninsula presenting our second album "The End Of Faith" with Resurrection Fest, Legends of the ROck, Otero Brutal Fest... finally We have strengthened our training and I have had the opportunity to collaborate with great artists such as Joaquín Padilla, Legacy of a Tragedy, Mägo de Oz or Leo Jiménez... we have fulfilled dreams that seemed unattainable!

​

How about this beginning of year 2019! What plans do you have?

​

DSatanica:

​

BLOODHUNTER We are already immersed in the composition of our third studio work, which we will record in mid-end of the year if possible; while we closed the presentation of this "The End Of Faith" in other major festivals such as Rock The Coast or Gineta Rock. For my part, at the beginning of this year, 3 albums will come out in what I have collaborated: the IV delivery of Legacy of a Tragedy ("The Secret of the Templars"), the new work of Mägo de Oz ("Ira Dei", from which we premiered the lyric video of the single "La Cantiga de las Brujas") and that of Leo Jiménez ("Messiah").

Tell us about any new production you have in mind! Some video? Some new Tour and in México?

​

DSatanica:

​

I don’t know if it will be possible to be in any of the live presentations of these albums, but it would be another dream fulfilled. For now, I will be at the record company of "Ira Dei" of Mägo de Oz on March 9 in Madrid. I would love to be in México, we had had some offer in the past, but nothing too firm. I hope this is the year!

​

The debut of 'The End of Faith' was great! The songs, the lyrics as well as your voice is super tough! I like it! What would you add to the Bloodhunter style, something of Brutal Death, Black Death or Deathcore perhaps?

​

DSatanica:

​

Everyone in the band has very different influences: I recognize that I would love to do something closer to the wave of bands like Aborted, but I think that precisely that balanced mix between the guttural voices and the melody of the instrumental part is what has brought us so many joys "The End Of Faith" has been a great change in our career: we have improved production and at the individual level we have also worked hard to turn the page and it seems to have worked.

​

Death Metal is your passion? Or extreme music is your fascination?

​

DSatanica:

​

I like almost any style of music, I listen to styles that have absolutely nothing to do with rock or metal. In the extreme metal is where I found my identity when singing, it is my medium when telling the story I want to tell.

​

Have you thought about doing some duet with some other Metal Metal band? Like which? And why?

​

DSatanica:

​

I have been fortunate to collaborate on the albums of the Spanish Aposento (great friends), the Salvadorans Apes of God, and live with my beloved Holy Moses and Nightrage. Of all of them I have learned and I am very grateful for the opportunity they gave me. If I had to choose some other band... Behemoth!

​

And referring to your voice, have you had any problems singing with those gutturals at some point? What would you recommend to other singers who start in this genre?

​

DSatanica:

​

When we recorded our first self-titled album in 2014, only a month ago I had found my "sound". I had a terrible time because it was my first time in a professional recording studio and because I really had no idea what I was doing: the placement came and went without knowing how to control it and that made me overstretch leaving me hoarse for a week. There I realized that if I wanted to have a long career in music and go on tour like the musicians I admire for more than a week, I would need to prepare myself better. I tried to find help in some singing teacher but without success, so I dedicated myself to study on my own: I practiced almost daily, I watched many tutorials on YouTube and even went to several concerts a week to try to study the performances of different musicians. When I began to realize the mistakes I made, I started giving gutural classes for beginners, since many asked me how I did it so as not to damage myself. From there I was able to meet other vocalists with different techniques that forced me to try to learn what they did to reproduce it and show them where the problem was. It has been a long road where I have learned a lot. If someone had told me at the time what the problem was, it would have saved me a lot of time... So the main thing is always to ask for help. I have even taken up my melodic singing classes!

​

Interesting what you say Diva, and I imagine the effort to sustain that power and vocal strength, a teacher of that style of singing, I know, is Melissa Cross

​

Now we know about your time in La Voz in Spain, how was your experience in that reality? What did you learn from that moment? and what critics commented to you given the Metal style that I think is different for the theme of the show.

​

DSatanica:

​

It has been one of the best experiences of my life without any doubt. Thanks to the program, a path has been opened for this genre in an audiovisual medium of enormous diffusion that almost no other platform enjoys. Also, thanks to being the first to participate with this style in the 5 editions that the program had in Spain, I have come to know some of my favorite bands and to have all these opportunities come to me. Even musicians like Michael Amott of Arch Enemy or Christos Antoniou of Septic Flesh congratulated me for it ... if they who are professionals of the medium believe that it is something positive, I have no doubt that any negative criticism does not make any sense. And yes, there have been, and surprisingly, followers of the genre ... a pity that we continue to be so obtuse, that is our biggest brake to be able to catch up with the other musical styles.

​

Bands led by women in recent years are enough and I love them! In various styles and voices, what bands do you like and listen to today?

​

DSatanica:

​

The first band that fascinated me in this sense was ETHS. Even when her vocalist Candice left the band, I was offered to audition, but I was barely 20 years old and had no means to travel or equipment to record with. By the way, the vocalist they chose, Rachel Aspe, became known through the talent show Factor X. I love In This Moment, Jinjer and the Spanish Bones of Minerva.

What can you tell us about the video clip I Want Out (feat. Leo Jimenez) the Helloween cover? How did the idea of ​​doing it come about?

​

DSatanica:

​

One day we received an email telling us that he had listened to our record and he liked it. We could not believe it!!! From there we have been cultivating a beautiful friendship that in my particular case whenever I have any doubt at a professional level I do not hesitate to consult ... He is a great artist and also a very generous human being. We have always admired him, the first concert I escaped as a teenager was one of Saratoga. We thought about proposing the recording of a single because for us to think about working with him was a dream, and since we had already released the album, we thought about doing a cover. We proposed to do something that had not been done so far, that was versioning a classic with a guttural voice and accepted enchanted! We all love Helloween and "I Want Out" comes very close to the social situation we live in today: the excessive concern for what they will say, the search for your own identity, the baseless criticism of others ... And for high and unknowingly, we released the year that Helloween announced his return with Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske to tour the world!

Diva Satanic as you combine this facet of greater musical reach within the metal and outside the scenes? Work life, Do you think that with music there are many prejudices? Especially our Metalhead style

​

DSatanica:

​

For me to go out on TV has meant a liberation in a certain sense: I have always had to hide that I sing in a band and also extreme metal. Of course there are prejudices, even today I have to cover my tattoos. It's funny, because when I moved to Madrid I thought that all this would not happen in a big city, but I was wrong. The responsibility to normalize our style is at our expense: the more musicians bring their experience to light and defend their identity, the more the road will open up. Without going any further, I have been working in the same place for 3 years and I still heard a few months ago that in one of the centers with which we collaborate, the Skunk D.F drummer works!

Mi amiga Diva Satánica, talentosa, con una súper voz y hermosa cantante de la banda española de death metal BLOODHUNTER, ...  la cual estuvo en el programa La Voz con una súper y destacada presentación y toda una gran female fronted en España y del mundo metalero mundial!

​

Hola mi amiga Diva, ¿Cómo estás? gracias por esta segunda entrevista y para poder charlar un poco sobre ti ¿Cómo va todo?

​

DSatanica:

​

Mucho gusto volver a hablar contigo! No me puedo quejar, este 2018 ha sido un año lleno de trabajo, hemos estado en algunos de los mejores festivales de la península presentando nuestro segundo álbum “The End Of Faith” com Resurrection Fest, Leyendas del ROck, Otero Brutal Fest… por fin hemos afianzado formación y he tenido la oportunidad de colaborar con grandes artistas de la talla de Joaquín Padilla de Legado de una Tragedia, Mägo de Oz o el mismísimo Leo Jiménez… hemos cumplido sueños que parecían inalcanzables!

​

Que tal este inicio de año 2019! Que planes tienes?

​

DSatanica:

​

BLOODHUNTER estamos inmersos ya en la composición de nuestro tercer trabajo de estudio, que a ser posible grabaremos a mediados-finales de año; al tiempo que cerramos la presentación de este “The End Of Faith” en otros grandes festivales como el Rock The Coast o el Gineta Rock. Por mi parte, a principios de este año, saldrán 3 discos en lo que he colaborado: la IV entrega de Legado de una Tragedia (“El Secreto de los Templarios”), el nuevo trabajo de Mägo de Oz (“Ira Dei”, del que estrenamos el lyric vídeo del single “La Cantiga de las Brujas”) y el de Leo Jiménez (“Mesías”).

​

Cuéntanos sobre alguna nueva producción que tengas en mente! Algún vídeo? Algún nuevo Tour y en México?

​

DSatanica:

​

No sé si será posible estar en alguna de las presentaciones en directo de estos álbumes, pero sería otro sueño cumplido. De momento, estaré en la firma de discos del “Ira Dei” de Mägo de Oz el próximo 9 de marzo en Madrid. Me encantaría poder estar en México, habíamos tenido alguna oferta en el pasado, pero nada demasiado en firme. Ojalá éste sea el año!

 

El debut de 'The End of Faith' fue genial! Las canciones, la letra asi como tu voz esta súper rudo! Me agrada!  Que le agregarías al estilo de Bloodhunter, algo de Brutal Death, Black Death o DeathCore acaso?

​

DSatanica:

​

Todos en la banda tenemos influencias muy diferentes: reconozco que me encantaría hacer algo más próximo a la onda de bandas como Aborted, pero creo que precisamente esa mezcla tan equilibrada entre las voces guturales y la melodía de la parte instrumental es lo que nos ha traído tantas alegrías. “The End Of Faith” ha supuesto un gran cambio en nuestra carrera: mejoramos la producción y a nivel individual hemos trabajado mucho también para dar una vuelta de hoja y parece que ha funcionado.

​

El Death Metal es tu pasión? O la música extrema es tu fascinación?

​

DSatanica:

​

Me gusta casi cualquier estilo de música, escucho estilos que no tienen absolutamente nada que ver con el rock o con el metal. En el metal extremo es dónde he encontrado mi identidad a la hora de cantar, es mi medio a la hora de contar la historia que quiero contar.

​

Has pensado hacer algún dueto con algún otro grupo metalero de Death Metal? Cómo cuál? Y porque?

​

DSatanica:

​

He tenido la suerte de colaborar en los discos de los españoles Aposento (grandes amigos), de los salvadoreños Apes of God, y en directo con mis queridos Holy Moses y Nightrage. De todos ellos he aprendido y estoy muy agradecida por la oportunidad que me dieron. Si tuviera que elegir alguna otra banda...Behemoth!!

​

Y referente a tu voz, has tenido algún problema al cantar con esos guturales en algún momento? Que recomendarías a otras cantantes que se inician en este género?

​

DSatanica:

​

Cuando grabamos nuestro primer disco homónimo en 2014, sólo hacía un mes que había encontrado mi “sonido”. Lo pasé fatal porque era mi primera vez en un estudio de grabación profesional y porque en realidad no tenía ni idea de lo que estaba haciendo: la colocación iba y venía sin saber cómo controlarlo y eso hizo que me sobre esforzara dejándome afónica por una semana. Ahí me di cuenta de que si quería tener una larga carrera en la música e ir de gira como los músicos que admiro por más de una semana, iba necesitar prepararme mejor. Intenté buscar ayuda en algún profesor de canto pero sin éxito, así que me dediqué a estudiar por mi cuenta: ensayaba casi a diario, veía muchos tutoriales por youtube e incluso iba a varios conciertos a la semana para intentar estudiar las performances de diferentes músicos. Cuando empecé a darme cuenta de los errores que cometía, empecé a dar clases de gutural para principiantes, ya que muchos me preguntaban cómo lo hacía para no dañarme. A partir de ahí pude ir conociendo a otros vocalistas con distintas técnicas que me obligaban a intentar aprender lo que hacían para reproducirlo y enseñarles dónde estaba el problema. Ha sido un camino muy largo donde he aprendido muchísimo. Si en su momento alguien me hubiera dicho a mí cuál era el problema, me habría ahorrado mucho tiempo… Así que lo principal es siempre pedir ayuda. Yo incluso he retomado mis clases de canto melódico!

​

Darkzen:

​

Interesante lo que dices Diva, y me imagino el esfuerzo para poder sostener esa potencia y fuerza vocal, una maestra de ese estilo de canto, que sé, es Melissa Cross

​

Ahora sabemos de tu paso por La Voz en España, ¿Cómo fue tu experiencia en ese reality? Que aprendiste de ese momento? y que criticas te comentaron dado el estilo del Metal que creo es diferente para la temática del show.  

​

DSatanica:

​

Ha sido una de las mejores experiencias de mi vida sin ninguna duda. Gracias al programa, se ha abierto un camino para este género en un medio audiovisual de una difusión enorme de la que no goza casi ninguna otra plataforma. Además, gracias a ser la primera en participar con este estilo en las 5 ediciones que llevaba el programa en España, he llegado a que me conozcan algunas de mis bandas favoritas y a que me hayan surgido todas estas oportunidades. Incluso músicos de la talla de Michael Amott de Arch Enemy o Christos Antoniou de Septic Flesh me felicitaron por ello… si ellos que son profesionales del medio creen que es algo positivo, no me cabe ninguna duda de que cualquier crítica negativa no tiene sentido alguno. Y sí, las ha habido, y sorprendentemente de seguidores del género… una pena que sigamos siendo tan obtusos, ese es nuestro mayor freno para poder ponernos a la altura de los demás estilos musicales.

​

Bandas lideradas por mujeres en estos últimos años son bastantes y me encantan! En varios estilos y voces ¿Para ti qué bandas te gustan y escuchas actualmente?

​

DSatanica:

​

La primera banda que me fascinó en este sentido fue ETHS. Incluso cuando su vocalista Candice se fue de la banda, me ofrecieron hacer la audición, pero yo apenas tenía 20 años y no tenía medios para viajar ni equipo con el que grabarme. Por cierto, la vocalista que eligieron, Rachel Aspe, se dio a conocer a través del programa de talentos Factor X. Me encantan In This Moment, Jinjer y las españolas Bones of Minerva.

​

¿Qué nos puedes decir del videoclip I Want Out (feat. Leo Jiménez) el Helloween cover? Cómo surgió la idea de hacerlo?

​

DSatanica:

​

Un día recibimos un correo suyo diciéndonos que había escuchado nuestro disco y le había gustado. No nos lo podíamos creer!!! A partir de ahí hemos ido cultivando una bonita amistad que en mi caso particular siempre que tengo alguna duda a nivel profesional no dudo en consultarle… Es un gran artista y además un ser humano muy generoso. Siempre le hemos admirado, el primer concierto al que me escapé siendo una adolescente fue uno de Saratoga. Pensamos en proponerle la grabación de un single porque para nosotros pensar en trabajar con él era un sueño, y como ya habíamos lanzado el disco, pensamos en hacer un cover. Le propusimos hacer algo que no se había hecho hasta el momento, que era la versión de un clásico con voz gutural y aceptó encantado! A todos nos encanta Helloween y “I Want Out” viene muy al hilo de la situación social que vivimos en la actualidad: la preocupación excesiva por el qué dirán, la búsqueda de tu propia identidad, la crítica sin fundamento a los demás… Y para colmo y sin saberlo, lo estrenamos el año que Helloween anunciaban su regreso con Kai Hansen y Michael Kiske para su gira por el mundo!

Diva Satánica como combinas esta faceta de mayor alcance musical dentro del metal y fuera de los escenarios? La vida laboral, Crees que con la música hay muchos prejuicios? Sobre todo nuestro estilo Metalero

​

DSatanica:

​

Para mí salir en TV ha supuesto en cierto sentido una liberación: siempre he tenido que ocultar que canto en una banda y además de metal extremo. Claro que hay prejuicios, aún a día de hoy tengo que cubrir mis tatuajes. Es curioso, porque cuando me mudé a Madrid pensaba que todo esto no ocurriría en una ciudad grande, pero me equivocaba. La responsabilidad de normalizar nuestro estilo corre a nuestra cuenta: cuantos más músicos saquen a la luz su experiencia y defiendan su identidad, más se irá abriendo el camino. Sin ir más lejos, llevo 3 años trabajando en el mismo sitio y todavía me enteré hace unos meses de que en uno de los centros con los que colaboramos trabaja el baterista de Skunk D.F.!
