BEFORE & APACE is a heavy progressive rock project from the creative mind of Saskatoon, Canada’s Devin Martyniuk. The project draws from the same well as Tool, The Mars Volta, and Meshuggah. Over a span of multiple years starting in the mid-2000s, while splitting time as a guitarist/multi-instrumentalist between Western Canada’s goth-punk/metal misfits, The New Jacobin Club, and eclectic folk-rock band, Old Joe and the Truth Hurts, Martyniuk began to craft the songs that would ultimately comprise the debut album THE DENISOVAN by BEFORE & APACE.

Zeno

​

We start with background chords with some brutal distortion and abrasion, which assail us with strong guitars, melodic chords, hard and at the same time soft, some very changing tempos, with high, slow, soft or strong scales throughout the track.

​

Limbics

​

A very powerful start, chords and very consistent drums, although at times the rhythm goes down and at others it returns to its scale and time, notable changes in time and chords of a single line in a great way, there is brutality and some darkness, we have a heavy and varied atmosphere.

​

Ontogeny

​

A strong, aggressive, fast and melodic start, chords with varied scales on those guitars, tight tempos, progressive movements and powerful jumps that sound excellent, a more noticeable groove metal as the song progresses in some passages.

​

Simultanagnosia

​

The longest track in duration with almost 20 min! So, in short, a very atmospheric and soft start, later strong chords and drums with a psychedelic and strong touch, thus keeping us on the whole track and with high changes, low with some guitars that attack with everything.

​

My Recomendation

​

This EP by the band Before & Apace has a very remarkable combination, for the heaviest, strongest, abrasive and hitting scales it is accompanied with an Extreme Metal tint, with a certain degree of Groove and a little djent metal for some chords that listen, it also has repeated rhythm changes, melodic as I described earlier with brutal mixed haunting, dark, cold, atmospheric environments with a certain psychedelic degree.

There are accessible parts, as in 'Zeno', others not as much as in the last song, there are sudden rhythmic changes between progressive metal and ambient, there is brutality and force, high screams and times for the clean voice, there are numerous strong heterogeneous parts, others slow, others more rhythmic, others more brutal, but joining them in a very coherent and technical whole, a good debut EP album and For fans of Tool, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Intronaut, The Mars Volta.

BEFORE & APACE es un proyecto de rock progresivo pesado de la mente creativa de Saskatoon, el canadiense Devin Martyniuk. El proyecto se basa como Tool, The Mars Volta y Meshuggah. Durante un lapso de varios años a partir de mediados de la década de 2000, mientras dividía su tiempo como guitarrista / multi instrumentista entre los inadaptados goth-punk / metal del oeste de Canadá, The New Jacobin Club, y la ecléctica banda de folk-rock, Old Joe and the Truth. Tenemos un inicio con acordes de fondo con cierta distorsión y abrasión brutales, que nos asaltan con unas guitarras fuertes, acordes melódicos, duros y a su vez suaves, unos tempos muy cambiantes, con escalas altas, lentas, suaves o fuertes en toda la pista.

Limbics

​

Un inicio muy potente, acordes y batería muy acorde, aunque en el ritmo por momentos baja y otras vuelve a su escala y tiempo, cambios en tiempo notables y acordes de una sola línea de manera genial, hay brutalidad y algo de oscuridad, tenemos una atmosfera pesada y variada.

Ontogeny

​

Un inicio fuerte, agresivo, veloz y melódico, acordes con escalas variadas en esas guitarras, tempos ajustados, movimientos progresivos y saltos de forma potente que se escuchan excelente, un Groove metal más notorio a medida que avanza la canción en algunos pasajes.

​

Simultanagnosia

​

La pista mas extensa en duración con casi 20 min! Así que, resumiendo, un inicio muy atmosférico y suave, posteriormente fuertes acordes y batería con un toque psicodélico y fuerte, así nos mantiene en toda la pista y con cambios altos, bajos con unas guitarras que atacan con todo.

Mi Recomendación  

​

Tiene una combinación muy notable este EP de la banda Before & Apace, para las escalas más pesadas, fuertes, abrasivas y golpeadoras se acompaña con un tinte de Metal Extremo, con cierto grado de Groove y un poco de djent metal por algunos acordes que se escuchan, también tiene repetidos cambios de ritmo, melódicos como lo describí anteriormente con brutales mezclados ambientes inquietantes, oscuros, fríos, atmosféricos con cierto grado psicodélico.

Hay partes accesibles, como en 'Zeno', otras no tanto como en la última canción, hay cambios bruscos rítmicos entre metal progresivo y ambientales, hay brutalidad y fuerza, gritos altos y tiempos para la voz limpia, hay numerosas partes heterogéneas fuertes, otras lentas, otras más rítmicas, otras más brutales, pero uniéndolas en un todo muy coherente y técnico, un buen albúm EP debut y For fans of Tool, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Intronaut, The Mars Volta.
