Disillusive Play music can be considered mainly as Hard/Heavy Rock but always with a Metal attitude and some Progressive nuances. The band has a strong presence in local live scene with many lives together with well known local artists and bands such as: “La Tulipe Noire”,”The Silent Wedding”, “Social Scream”, and many more, together with a powerful presence in local music festivals and club gigs.
“Open Arms” is Disillusive Play’s first full release. Lyrically, the album covers aspects of life such as love, continuance of past mistakes by new generations, loneliness and solitude, anxiety of an unsafe future and more.

Hello! Thank you very much for the invitation!
Antigoni! Tell us a bit about yourself! Do you have hobbies?
Antigoni:
Hmmm.. the truth is that I don’t have enough free time for hobbies. I ‘m a post doc researcher in nuclear physics applications (this is my morning job, that I do for living) and the rest of my time is occupied either by singing or by gym. I barely find time to sleep, so no hobbies!

What are your biggest musical influences?
Antigoni:
I love classic and hard rock music. I will indicatively mention some names that exist in my last playlist! Heart, GNR, Battle Beast, Halestorm, Pretty Reckless, Drowning Pool, Asking Alexandria, Unleash the Archers, In this Moment, Atreyu, Stone Sour, Alter Bridge, Evans Blue, Axel Rudi Pell.
Tell us your path to Metal, Rock or how was it?
Antigoni:
Actually I had a bit unorthodox path to rock! I started listening to rock music when I started singing! I mean that from the moment that I started singing, and even in my first steps with school bands, it was clear to me that my voice was made for rock songs! So, actually, I directly started studying rock songs, I was not just listening to them. If you are curious about these first songs that showed me the way many years ago, here you are! “Hold the line”, “When the smoke in going down”, “Because the night”, “Highway to hell”, “Smoke on the water”, “You give love bad name”, “I surrender” and boom! Rock never stopped for me since then!
Do you have any vocal training Antigoni?
Antigoni:
Yes, of course, When I realised that I love singing, I immediately started the vocal lessons, since day 1! I wanted to do it in the best possible way that I could. So, after several years of training, I earned the “Contemporary Singing” Diploma from the National Concervatory of Athens.
Does the name of the band have any meaning for you?
Antigoni:
To be honest, when I heard the name of the band for the first time, I found it a bit difficult for someone to remember! However, in the end of the day, the meaning of it, it was much more important and deeper than my first reaction, so I loved it!
Disillusive Play means that the songs of the band are going to be about problems of everyday life. It actually means that any illusion will be destroyed after listening to our music! It sounds quite promising, don’t you think?!
Tell us a bit about the upcoming album entitled “Songs for the Non-Existent”, which will be released in Spring 2023, In production and in lyrics!
Antigoni:
We are very proud that we managed after a very hard working period to complete our second album! The name of it is “Songs for the Non-Existent” and as you already said, it will be released very soon! Jim Knikos (lead guitar), who is the heart of the Disillusive Play band, wrote the biggest part of the album, both lyrics and music, but this time also I (Antigoni Kalamara, vocals) and Michalis Mytilinis (bass) contributed to the composing and writing procedures. The lyrics of the album deal with several aspects of society, everyday life and feelings. A wide range of thoughts is revealed concerning criticism, racism, inequality, persistence, weakness, unfulfilled dreams, family, past relationships, life choices, supressed souls, despair and hope!
The album was recorded by Jimmy Katsaros (The Silent Wedding) at Underground Music Studios, it was mixed by Bob Katsionis (Stray Gods, ex. Firewind, ex. Septic Flesh) at Sound Symmetry Studio and it was mastered by Nasos Nomikos at VU Productions.
Moreover, in this album we are very happy to have several guests! More specifically, keyboards over the whole album are signed by Bob Katsionis, while backing vocals by Iliana Tsakiraki (Enemy of Reality). Moreover, we have a duet that gave its name to the album “Song for the Non-Existent” with guest vocals by Marios Karanastasis (The Silent Wedding) and last but not least, guest bass by Panagiotis Bourazanis in the official video “Queen of the Night”, that is already out!

Thank you very much! It was a very nice experience, indeed, and for that we have to thank Bob Katsionis and Alexander Haritakis. We also can’t forget mentioning and thank Elina Mantzavinou, George Livadaras and Dimitris Sorvanis for the acting in the story of the video! Yes, of course! A live video of the “Song for the Non-Existent” duet will be released very soon and also a lyric video will follow! Stay tuned!
How about that voice duet with our friend Iliana Tsakiraki?
Antigoni:
Actually, there is no duet with Iliana, but that’s a great idea for the next album! In this album Iliana Tsakiraki (Enemy of Reality) recorded the backing vocals for the whole album and we thank her very much for her contribution! She has a unique voice, she is very profesional and she is a lovely person!
How varied, powerful, melodic or with some surprise will the new album have?
Antigoni:
Hm.. of course the biggest surpise of the album is the duet “Song for the Non-Existent” with Marios Karanastasis (The Silent Wedding) in vocals. Apart from that, there are many variations in the songs of the album. Some are tough and hard, some are more melodic and also there is a ballad. I (Antigoni) think that it’s an album that you will not listen to it just once! Believe me!
Any new soon about this new album?
Antigoni:
According to the time schedule that we have with our company (WormHoleDeath from Italy), the album will be released by the end of May 2023!
Do you have any dates or tours in your country?
Antigoni:
So far we have arranged a concert which was on April 1st and after that the performance for the album release will probably follow, but this is not fixed yet.

Soy una investigadora postdoctoral en aplicaciones de física nuclear (este es mi trabajo matutino, que hago para ganarme la vida) y el resto de mi tiempo lo ocupo cantando o haciendo gimnasia. Apenas encuentro tiempo para dormir, ¡así que no tengo pasatiempos!

¿Cuáles son tus mayores influencias musicales?
Antígoni:
Me encanta la música clásica y hard rock. ¡Mencionaré a título indicativo algunos nombres que existen en mi última lista de reproducción! Cuéntanos tu camino hacia el Metal, el Rock o ¿cómo fue?
Antígoni:
En realidad, ¡tuve un camino poco ortodoxo hacia el rock! ¡Empecé a escuchar música rock cuando empecé a cantar! Quiero decir que desde el momento en que comencé a cantar, e incluso en mis primeros pasos con las bandas de la escuela, ¡tuve claro que mi voz estaba hecha para canciones de rock! Entonces, en realidad, comencé directamente a estudiar canciones de rock, no solo las escuchaba. Si tienes curiosidad por estas primeras canciones que me mostraron el camino hace muchos años, ¡aquí las tienes! “Mantén la línea”, “Cuando el humo está bajando”, “Porque la noche”, “Autopista al infierno”, “Humo en el agua”, “Le das mal nombre al amor”, “Me rindo” y ¡boom! ¡El rock nunca paró para mí desde entonces!
¿Tienes algún entrenamiento vocal Antigoni?
Antígoni:
Sí, por supuesto, cuando me di cuenta de que me encanta cantar, inmediatamente comencé las lecciones de canto, ¡desde el día 1! Quería hacerlo de la mejor manera posible que pudiera. Entonces, después de varios años de formación, obtuve el Diploma de "Canto Contemporáneo" del Conservatorio Nacional de Atenas.
¿El nombre de la banda tiene algún significado para ti?
Antígoni:
Para ser honesta, cuando escuché el nombre de la banda por primera vez, ¡me resultó un poco difícil que alguien lo recordara! Sin embargo, al final del día, el significado de esto fue mucho más importante y más profundo que mi primera reacción, ¡así que me encantó!

Su nombre es “Songs for the Non-Existent” y como ya dijiste, ¡se lanzará muy pronto! Jim Knikos (guitarra principal), que es el corazón de la banda Disillusive Play, escribió la mayor parte del álbum, tanto la letra como la música, pero esta vez también yo (Antigoni Kalamara, voz) y Michalis Mytilinis (bajo) contribuyeron al Procedimientos de composición y escritura. Las letras del álbum tratan varios aspectos de la sociedad, la vida cotidiana y los sentimientos. ¡Se revela una amplia gama de pensamientos sobre la crítica, el racismo, la desigualdad, la persistencia, la debilidad, los sueños incumplidos, la familia, las relaciones pasadas, las opciones de vida, las almas reprimidas, la desesperación y la esperanza!
