From Santiago de Chile! Caterina started with music at an early age, forming some rock bands during her teens. She achieved notoriety in her country by forming the band Aghonya, who recorded her first album Oxygen (2008) where she was also responsible for contributing the lyrics. Although the album was released to the market independently, the band and Caterina achieved excellent reviews from the specialized press and a large fan base in their country, leading the group to be an opening act for recognized bands of the scene as After Forever, Edguy and Within Temptation
In 2014 she recorded her first solo album, an EP titled Contact. In 2015 she joined as a vocalist in the band Chaos Magic, a project led by guitarist Timo Tolkki, recording the homonymous album that same year. Caterina had previously collaborated with the aforementioned guitarist on the album Angels of the Apocalypse of the band Timo Tolkki's Avalon, published in May 2014, where he shared vocal work with the renowned singers Simone Simons (Epica), Elize Ryd (Amaranthe) and Floor Jansen (Nightwish)
CHAOS MAGIC focuses on Chilean vocalist Caterina Nix who, for this second release of the band, worked closely with fellow Chilean producer, singer and musician Nasson. Together, they have created an absolute jewel of a metal album, whose splendor is in the first single and music video of the album, "Like Never Before".
And what exactly is the "sound" in the new album by Chaos Magic?
“I wanted to mix different styles and also look for my own sound and I think that is achieved well in“ FuryBorn ”. It is a mixture of heavy metal, melodic, symphonic and alternative, with traces of progressive and electronic modern elements, unique arrangements and a bit of nostalgia associated with certain sounds of the 90s and early 00s. It has moments of anger, power and darkness sick, but also vulnerable, sensual and sometimes playful points. “FuryBorn” is more difficult to label compared to the previous Chaos Magic album since in the new album guitars are a more prominent ingredient that gives the sound a great richness. In summary, “FuryBorn” is a roller coaster that flows through a variety of intense styles with unusual arrangements but with very catchy melodies, ”concludes Caterina and can be sure that she is not really exaggerating in the descriptions.
Hi there! Caterina! A pleasure to have this interview! Awesome biography! You are very talented and you have a beautiful voice! I've been listening to you since before Vivaldi Proyect! How are you Caterina?
Caterina:
Very well! Thank you for the interest in my music and my projects! Very happy.
Santiago de Chile a very beautiful city! Tell us a bit about Caterina Nix? Who is today? What hobbies do you have?
Caterina:
In addition to being a singer, I am a lawyer, I work in an insurance company, I like to train, I love makeup, I collect perfumes, I rescue animals and I am a mother 8 months ago.

How was your path to this beautiful sound called Heavy Metal? I know you have influences like Within Temptation! Among other great bands.
Caterina:
It has been a path with varied veins of influence, within rock and metal. I started from small listening to the typical classics like Queen and then quite grunge and later a lot of metal. I really like the mix of metal with female voices and definitely bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation were on my radar from the beginning.
How was it and how is your vocal training?
Caterina:
I have studied lyrical singing and popular singing for several years and I think it is important for vocal health to know what you are doing. That has helped me go on tour singing every day without problems. It is vitally important to know how your instrument behaves.
How is Caterina out of the stage? Do you have any other profession?
Caterina:
As I told you, I am a lawyer, but my passion is music. Unfortunately in Chile being a musician rarely allows you to live comfortably from it, so I had to make the decision to study a more “lucrative” career and thus be able to finance music.
Darkzen:
I understand you in that aspect.
Now as was the meeting between Timo Tolkki a great composer of a super power metal band which I send a greeting! And your Caterina?
Caterina:
I met him at an autograph firm in Chile, one of the times he played here with Stratovarius, I approached very canchera to talk about you to you, because I do not like to endorse anyone and we had a good wave, I told him that I was a singer and Then I sent him my material, which he loved.
How was the collaboration with the Chilean producer, singer and musician Nasson? Like a greeting!
Caterina:
It is a pleasure to work with him, he is very talented and has all the perfect skills to create a quality album. We work very well because there is excellent compositional chemistry and we both have a clear direction of sound. I totally trust him as a producer, he really did an excellent job. We also work with Franco Lama, another spectacular Chilean guitarist and composer.
Proudly Latin, Chilean and being in Chaos Magic led by Timo Tolkki! FuryBorn is difficult to classify, but what does the whole album mean to you? Any song in particular?
Caterina:
It is not a conceptual album but it does have lyrics with very clear messages, of worsening of looking for your own vision of life, etc. I like all the songs but Beware of Silent Waters captivates me in a special way.
FuryBorn's album is exceptional, good musical and vocal work, do you think there is a distinction between a Symphonic, Alternative and Melodic Metal when composing the song plus one letter and to that we add an emotional part to the moment of interpreting it? What do you think?
Caterina:
When you start composing a song everything is very organic, instinctive, it is after that it takes shape and we are adding arrangements, details, colors, textures. It is definitely a disc with melodic, alternative, symphonic and electronic elements. But there is more than that and I like people to discover the layers of the composition.
Tell us the experience of working with excellent singers for the album like Ailyn, Tom Englund, Nasson and Ronnie Romero himself? I create a very complete album for the vocal and musical part by Mistheria.
Caterina:
They are all tremendous talents and I am very grateful to have had them. The experience with each one was incredible and very positive, they are musicians that I had on my radar for a long time and I really wanted to make collaborations with them.
Why the song ‘I m your Cancer’ because the last track of the album was taken for release?
Caterina:
I think it has everything to be a good single and I like to close the album with a powerful, melodic and memorable song. It is important that people who listen to the album want more.
Do you have any tour planned for Latin America in these months? In North America? And of course in México? A pleasure to hear from you!
Caterina:
We are looking forward to touring America and I hope we can achieve soon, maybe 2020. We would love to play in Mexico, it would be a dream come true!
What would you say to many Latin singers who are still in this musical genre, sometimes it is not very easy to follow for any circumstance.
Caterina:
I would tell them to be strong, that nothing they say can destroy them. Do not waver for the "what will they say" go ahead as beasts if it is really what they want.

Desde Santiago de Chile! Caterina empezó por la música a una temprana edad, conformando algunas bandas de rock durante su adolescencia. Logró notoriedad en su país al conformar la banda Aghonya, que grabó su primer álbum Oxygen (2008) donde además ella se encargó de contribuir con las letras. Aunque el álbum fue lanzado al mercado de manera independiente, la banda y Caterina lograron excelentes críticas por parte de la prensa especializada y una gran base de fanáticos en su país, llevando a la agrupación a ser acto de apertura para bandas reconocidas de la escena como After Forever, Edguy y Within Temptation
En 2014 grabó su primer álbum como solista, un EP titulado Contact. En 2015 ingresó como vocalista en la banda Chaos Magic, proyecto liderado por el guitarrista Timo Tolkki, grabando el álbum homónimo ese mismo año. ¿Y cuál es exactamente el "sonido" en el nuevo álbum de Chaos Magic?
“Quería mezclar diferentes estilos y también buscar un sonido propio y creo que eso se logra bien en “FuryBorn”. Es una mezcla de heavy metal, melódico, sinfónico y alternativo, con rastros de elementos modernos progresivos y electrónicos, arreglos únicos y un poco de sensación de nostalgia asociada a ciertos sonidos de los años 90 y principios de los 00. Tiene momentos de ira, poder y oscuridad enferma, pero también puntos vulnerables, sensuales y a veces juguetones. “FuryBorn” es más difícil para etiquetar en comparación con el álbum anterior de Chaos Magic ya que en el nuevo álbum las guitarras son un ingrediente más destacado que le da una gran riqueza al sonido. En resumen, “FuryBorn” es una montaña rusa que fluye a través de una variedad de estilos intensos con arreglos poco comunes pero con melodías muy pegadizas “, concluye Caterina y puede estar segura de que realmente no está exagerando en las descripciones.

Caterina:
Muy bien! Gracias por el interés en mi música y mis proyectos! Muy contenta.
Santiago de Chile una ciudad muy bonita! Cuéntanos un poco de Caterina Nix? Quién es hoy en día? Que hobbies tienes?
Caterina:
Además de cantante soy abogado, trabajo en una empresa de seguros, me gusta entrenar, aficionada al maquillaje, colecciono perfumes, rescato animales y soy mamá hace 8 meses.
Darkzen:
Excelente! Y Felicidades!
Como fue tu camino hacia este bello sonido llamado Heavy Metal? Sé que tienes influencias como Within Temptation! Entre otras grandes bandas.
Caterina:
Ha sido un camino con vetas variadas de influencia, dentro del rock y el metal. Empecé desde pequeña escuchando los típicos clásicos como Queen y después bastante grunge y más tarde mucho metal. Me gusta mucho la mezcla del metal con voces femeninas y definitivamente bandas como Nightwish y Within Temptation estuvieron en mi radar desde el principio.
Como fue y como sigue tu entrenamiento vocal?
Caterina:
He estudiado varios años canto lírico y canto popular y creo que es importante para la salud vocal saber lo que estás haciendo. Eso me ha ayudado a ir de gira cantando todos los días sin problemas. Es de vital importancia saber cómo se comporta tu instrumento.
Como es Caterina fuera de los escenarios? Tienes alguna otra profesión?
Caterina:
Como te contaba, soy abogado, pero mi pasión es la música. Lamentablemente en Chile ser músico pocas veces te permite vivir holgadamente de ello, por lo que tuve que tomar la decisión de estudiar una carrera más “lucrativa" y así poder financiar la música.
Darkzen:
Te entiendo en ese aspecto.
Ahora como fue el encuentro entre Timo Tolkki un gran compositor de una súper banda de power metal el cual le mando un saludo! Y tu Caterina?
Caterina:
Lo conocí en una firma de autógrafos en Chile, una de las veces que tocó aquí con Stratovarius, me acerqué muy canchera a conversar de tú a tú, porque no me gusta endiosar a nadie y tuvimos muy buena onda, le conté que era cantante y después le envié mi material, que le encantó.
Como fue la colaboración con el productor, cantante y músico Chileno Nasson? al igual un saludo!
Caterina:
Es un agrado trabajar con él, es muy talentoso y tiene todas las habilidades perfectas para crear un álbum de calidad. Trabajamos muy bien porque hay una química compositiva excelente y ambos tenemos claro el rumbo del sonido. Confío totalmente en él como productor, realmente hizo un trabajo excelente. También trabajamos con Franco Lama, otro espectacular guitarrista y compositor chileno.
Orgullosamente latina, Chilena y estar en Chaos Magic liderado por Timo Tolkki! FuryBorn es difícil de clasificar, pero para ti qué significado tiene todo el álbum? Alguna canción en especial?
Caterina:
No es un álbum conceptual pero sí tiene letras con mensajes muy claros, de empeoramiento de buscar tu propia visión de la vida, etc. Me gustan todas las canciones pero Beware of Silent Waters me cautiva de una forma especial.
El álbum de FuryBorn es excepcional, buen trabajo musical y vocal, crees que haya distinción entre un Metal Sinfónico, Alternativo y Melódico al componer la canción más una letra y a eso le añadimos una parte emocional al momento de interpretarla? Qué opinas?
Caterina:
Al empezar a componer una canción todo es muy orgánico, instintivo, es después que va tomando forma y le vamos agregando arreglos, detalles, colores, texturas. Definitivamente es un disco con elementos melódicos, alternativos, sinfónicos y electrónicos. Pero hay más que eso y me gusta que la gente vaya descubriendo las capas de la composición.
Cuéntanos la experiencia de trabajar con excelente cantantes para el álbum como Ailyn, Tom Englund, el mismo Nasson y Ronnie Romero? Creo un álbum muy completo por la parte vocal y musical por Mistheria.
Caterina:
Todos ellos son tremendos talentos y estoy muy agradecida de haber contado con ellos. La experiencia con cada uno fue increíble y muy positiva, son músicos que yo tenía en mi radar desde hace mucho tiempo y tenía muchísimas ganas de poder concretar colaboraciones con ellos.
Porque la canción ‘I m your Cancer’ porque se tomó la última pista del álbum para el lanzamiento?
Caterina:
Creo que lo tiene todo para ser un buen single y me gusta cerrar el disco con una canción poderosa, melódica y recordable. Es importante que la gente que escuche el disco quede con ganas de más.
Tienen alguna gira prevista para Latino América en estos meses? En Norteamérica? Y claro en México? Un placer poder escucharte!
Caterina:
Tenemos muchas ganas de girar por América y espero que podamos concretar pronto, tal vez el 2020. Nos encantaría tocar en México, sería un sueño hecho realidad!
Que les dirías a muchas cantantes latinas que siguen dentro de este género musical, a veces no es muy sencillo seguir por cualquier circunstancia.
Caterina:
Les diría que sean fuertes, que nada de lo que digan las puede destruir. No flaqueen por el “qué dirán" sigan adelante como bestias si es en verdad lo que desean.
