Official Biography

Noumena (est. 1998, Ähtäri, Finland) have offered their distinctive and unique view of melodic death metal on five full-length albums so far. They released their new album Anima this 4th of September 2020. Rarely there is a better soundtrack at hand for the approaching autumn than this album, lingering amid heavy, dark and slow waters.

The upcoming album presents the darkest and the most melancholic Noumena so far. Band’s unique style to weave wistful melodies is present once again. The songs offer glimpses of Finnish folk music and old schlager fortified with merciless and heavy base. The distinctive feature of Anima is melancholy and serenity.

Markus Hirvonen, who joined the band in 2018, strengthens Noumena’s musical expression with his guitar playing, singing and composition skills. Besides guitarist Ville Lamminaho, the main songwriter, every member in Noumena has contributed to music or lyrics on the album.

Thematically the album approaches death and loss from various viewpoints. Anima is a manifestation of spirit, soul and vitality, which takes a form of a soul bird in Finnish folklore. It is an ethereal spirit animal, who brings soul in birth and takes it away in death. As Saatto song puts it: eventually everyone joins the symphony of souls and leaves only echoes in this world. The upcoming album trusts in Finnish lyrics like its predecessor.

Anima is a joint creative endeavor of artists from Noumena’s hometown, Ähtäri. Besides songs, cover artwork, promo pictures and music video of Saatto are crafted by Ähtäri-bred professionals.

Kaiku

An acoustic beginning that opens with a melancholic and soft prologue, instrumental in combinations of background choirs and a deep voice.

Saatto

We have a thicker beginning and introduction, slow and long time signature, little by little the voices give a warm and hard Death Doom in my opinion gloomy and conceptual, with soft chords and slow pace, tearful guitars, discreet drums, the beautiful Suvi Uura with his soft and melancholic voice he gives more emphasis to the atmosphere of the song.

Murtuneet

Excellent and somber style, rhythm, forceful rhythm, notes and musical scale, more heaviness on this track, Suvi Uura softens the chords shown and the guttural voice enhances that counterpart, the two voices join in a funereal and lonely dance with force and darkness.

Seula

A more rhythmic, melodic and lively sound, we start with a stronger and darker guttural, dense chords and a more present drums, there are interesting progressive extracts, Suri's voice decorates the whole song in the background in a subtle and soft way.

Ajaton

We return to the acoustic, folkloric part of those gloomy and Victorian medieval times, in this introductory part, the combination of gutturals and Suvi's voice enhances that strong part when there is a low and somewhat long tempo, heavy chords and fast moments.

Totuus

One of the longest songs in time! It begins with a soft and discreet chord that slowly increases in volume, then heavy and continuous chords, constant and strong along with a gleaming and nascent drums, Suvi's beautiful voice assails us with an accent and great clarity which opens up the powerful voice and guttural vibrating, long and slow scales that give a perfect gloomy power to this song, those blunt and powerful riffs with a progressive rhythm, contrast very well with those soft and light acoustic solos.

Anima

We jump to the song with the name of the album, it begins with a sound as a background, very discreet and lonely, Suvi's voice takes you through melancholic, lugubrious and strong sounds that are combined with the guttural voice that screams with all force this elegy.

Joutsen

And closing with a beautiful set of notes and scales of violin or cello, and piano, which accompanies with total acoustics the beautiful voice of Suvi, soft and poetic.

My Recomendation

Anima is definitely a very emotional album! A sensitive, soft album, with strong, forceful and contrasting musical notes, instrumental in a lot of sense, ethereal, ambient, continuous, with a gloomy, melancholic, gloomy atmosphere, there is euphoria and mysticism, it has a gothic and doom metal wrapping in much of the disc that you like! With a large dose of light and dark struggle, that is what the combinations of white and dark voices reflect, in this album you can see a very melancholic style, with a cold and discreet melodic death, but with a reflective, folkloric concept. and with some progressive moments, the theme, sound, musical scales and tempos go very well with death and loss.

The Voice

Suvi's voice is primordial and carries in many musical aspects all the songs on the album, has a marked and independent presence at a level of intensity that can be heard in various parts of the album, her vibrato smooth, clear and maintaining a light scale and beautifully orchestrated smooth, the guttural voice is a strong and dark part of the album giving strength and power.

Noumena (est. 1998, Ähtäri, Finlandia) ha ofrecido su visión distintiva y única del death metal melódico en cinco álbumes de larga duración hasta ahora. Lanzaron su nuevo álbum Ánima este 4 de septiembre de 2020. Rara vez hay una mejor banda sonora a la mano para el próximo otoño que este álbum, persistente en medio de aguas pesadas, oscuras y lentas.

El próximo álbum presenta el Noumena más oscuro y melancólico hasta ahora. El estilo único de la banda para tejer melodías melancólicas está presente una vez más. Las canciones ofrecen destellos de la música folclórica finlandesa y del viejo schlager reforzado con una base pesada y despiadada. El rasgo distintivo de Ánima es la melancolía y la serenidad.

Markus Hirvonen, quien se unió a la banda en 2018, fortalece la expresión musical de Noumena con sus habilidades para tocar la guitarra, cantar y componer. Un inicio acústico que abre con un prólogo melancólico y suave, instrumental en combinaciones de coros de fondo y una voz profunda.

Saatto

Tenemos un comienzo e introducción más gruesa, compas lento y largo, poco a poco las voces le dan un cálido y duro Death Doom a mi parecer lúgubre y conceptual, con acordes suaves y a paso lento, guitarras llorosas, batería discreta, la bella Suvi Uura con su voz suave y melancólica da más énfasis al ambiente de la canción.

Murtuneet

Excelente y sombrío estilo, ritmo, contundente el compás, notas y escala musical, más pesadez en esta pista, Suvi Uura suaviza a los acordes mostrados y la voz gutural enaltece esa contra parte, las dos voces se une en un baile fúnebre y solitario con fuerza y oscuridad.

Seula

Un sonido más rítmico, melódico y más vivo, comenzamos con un gutural más fuerte y oscuro, acordes densos y una batería más presente, hay extractos progresivos interesantes, la voz de Suri decora en el fondo a toda la canción de forma sutil y suave.

Ajaton

Volvemos a la parte acústica, folclórica de aquellos tiempos medievales lúgubres y victorianos, en esta parte introductoria, la combinación de guturales y la voz de Suvi ensalza esa parte fuerte cuando hay un tempo grave y algo largo, acordes pesados y veloces de momentos.

Totuus

Una de las canciones más extensas en tiempo! Inicia con un suave y discreto acorde que lentamente aumenta en volumen, posteriormente acordes pesados y continuos, constantes y fuertes junto a una batería reluciente y naciente, nos asalta la bella voz de Suvi con un acento y claridad genial el cual abre a la poderosa voz y gutural que vibra, escalas largas y lentas que le dan un poder sombrío perfecto a esta canción, esos riffs contundentes y potentes con un ritmo progresivo, contrastan muy bien con esos solos acústicos suaves y ligeros.

Anima

Saltamos hacia la canción con el nombre del albúm, inicia con un sonido como de fondo, muy discreto y solitario, la voz de Suvi te lleva a través de sonidos melancólicos, lúgubres y fuertes que se conjuntan con la voz gutural que grita con fuerza toda esta elegía.

Joutsen

Y cerrando con un bello conjunto de notas y escalas de violín o cello, y de piano, que acompaña con total acústica la voz bellísima de Suvi, suave y poética.

Mi Recomendación

Anima es definitivamente un álbum muy emocional y emotivo! Un albúm sensible, suave, con notas musicales fuertes, contundentes y contrastantes, instrumental en mucho sentido, etéreo, ambiental, continuo, con un ambiente sombrío melancólico, lúgubre, hay euforia y misticismo, tiene un envoltorio gótico y doom metal en gran parte del disco que te gustara! Con una gran dosis de lucha de luz y oscuridad, eso es lo que refleja las combinaciones de voces blancas y oscuras, en este albúm se puede contemplar un estilo muy melancólico, con un melodic death frio y discreto, pero con el concepto reflexivo, folclórico y con algunos momentos progresivo, el tema, sonido, escalas musicales y tempos van muy bien con la muerte y la pérdida.

La Voz

La voz de Suvi es primordial y lleva en muchos aspectos musicales todas las canciones del albúm, tiene una presencia marcada e independiente a un nivel de intensidad que se puede escuchar en varias partes del disco, su vibrato suave, claro y manteniendo una escala ligera y suave bellamente orquestada, la voz gutural es parte fuerte y oscura del albúm dando fuerza y potencia.
