Kalidia is a Symphonic Power Metal formed in Lucca, Italy in 2010 and has two albums out: Lies’ Device (2014) and The Frozen Throne (2018). Kalidia is back, stronger than ever! Besides being more melodic it also has more power!

​

Beside that, Nicoletta is also involved with Walk in Darkness, a mysterious gothic-metal band that combines the dark melancholy of  the gothic genre with aggressive metal, melodramatic lyrics and epic themes.

Hi Nicoletta, how are you? A pleasure to do an interview with you again and to know more about you!
 

Nicoletta:

​

Thanks to you Darkzen, it’s a pleasure for me!

​

First, I congratulate to you because you have graduated as a Veterinarian! A hug! How about your career, how do you do it to have time for all things, considering you are singing in 2 bands?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Thanks! Well, at the moment I’m only focusing on music, trying to figure out how to manage music and my work as Veterinarian. I don’t know what will happen in the future!

​

What is your passion, fascination and obsession, music or Veterinary Medicine?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Music will always be my #1 passion. Beside that, Veterinary Medicine was something I wanted to do since I was a child. I ended up realizing both of my dreams. Let’s see what life brings now!

​

What is your favorite animal specie?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Alpacas!

​

You have a very soft voice and above all very melodic, I like it very much! Are you still training your voice?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Thank you! I’ve started to train my voice after the reléase of our debut álbum ‘Lies’ Device’ and I’m still working to sing better and to push my limits

 

Also, the last year  you joined the Vivaldi Metal Project,  a symphonic metal opera based on Antonio Vivaldi’s work „The Four Seasons“. How does it feel to be involved in this project?

Nicoletta:

​

I was really surprised when the mastermid of this Project (Maestro Mistheria) asked me first to record a part on the álbum (released in 2016) and then to join the 10-pieces live band based on the Project! We did 2 shows last year and we recorded a live DVD, to be released soon. It’s a great honor for me to be part of such a project.

​

What singers/bands inside Metal influcenced your vocal style and the music of Kalidia? And out of metal?

 

Nicoletta:

​

As Singer: Fabio Lione, mainly (did you notice my strong vibrato? Ahah!), and as band: mainly Kamelot (Roy Khan era). Outside metal, I also love the voice  of Loreena McKennitt

​

Darkzen: 

​

Now i remember, you  right! 

​

The new álbum 'The Frozen Throne' was released on November 23. Congratulations! What are your feelings about the new álbum?

​

Nicoletta:

​

I’m really happy about the incredible result we were able to achieve. It was a long process from songwriting to mixing and mastering, but in the end we would do it again in the same way. The new álbum is a huge step forward in our sound compared to our first álbum.

​

Do you write the lyrics for the new álbum?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Yes, I’m the one who lays down the words for the songs. However, sometimes we discuss about the songs topic all together.

​

Let’s talk about ‘The Frozen Throne’. It’s your second studio álbum, what’s different with the ‘Lies’ Device’ your first álbum that was released in 2014?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Almost everything! Different production, modern arrangements, bombastic sounds, we grewp up a lot as musicians… what is the same is our melodic songwriting, you can recognized it!

​

Darkzen:

​

Yes! The melodic composition

​

Do you have some favorite songs from this second studio álbum?

​

Nicoletta:

​

This is a difficult question, it’s like asking to a mother which of his children she prefers! I’ll pick my favorite four songs: Frozen Throne, To The Darkness I Belong, Go Beyond, Circe’s Spell.

​

Why did you choose those songs to make the videos? What do those special songs mean to you?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Our ideas were really clear about ‘Frozen Throne’: we wanted a new strong and powerful single. Regarding the other two videos, we discussed about them with our label. ‘Black Sails’ is our ‘fun-song’ of the álbum and with its pirate theme was perfect for a lyrics video, while we wanted to do a video with a story to represent our own versión of the story of Circe.

​

You have an gothic metal band Walk In Darkness. I really like it and the concept of the whole project, besides the message it sends. Could you maybe describe it from your perspective, to the fans who have never heard of Walk In Darkness and the concept?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Walk in Darkness is a mysterious gothic/symphonic metal band; beside me, all the other members are unknown. The lyrics are about the human condition in a universal sense; the songs are sometimes about modernity, sometimes of an epical and mythological nature, but they always speak about consciousness and the human fate.

​

From what I can hear, the music and the themes of the 2 bands is different, am I wrong?

​

Nicoletta:

​

You are not wrong. I think the two bands are very different, not only because the music is completely different but also the themes. Kalidia lyrics are inspired by many different things, like Greek Myth, Videogames, Personal stories… also I think my voice is used in a different style.

​

For you, which of the two bands that you have you identify more and why?

​

Nicoletta:

​

I love both bands, but I say Kalidia, mainly because in this band I’m also a songwriter and the lyricist, which I am not in WID. Also, I’ve founded Kalidia by myself (with Federico – guitars) 9 years ago.

​

Do you have any plans for a tour in Latino América? And Mexico? Do you like the Mexican Food? When you come to México, I invite you to a meal in pure Mexican style! :D

​

Nicoletta:

​

We’d love to come for sure! At the moment we haven’t received any offers… ask your local promoters to book us 😊 I’ve only tasted ‘our’ versión of the Mexican food (which I like!) but I’d love to try the original one!

Kalidia es un Power Metal sinfónico que se formó en Lucca, Italia en 2010 y tiene dos álbumes: Lies ’Device (2014) y The Frozen Throne (2018). Kalidia ha vuelto, más fuerte que nunca! Además de ser más melódico, también tiene más power!

Además de eso, Nicoletta también participa en Walk in Darkness, una misteriosa banda de metal gótico que combina la melancolía oscura del género gótico con el metal agresivo, las letras melodramáticas y los temas épicos.

Hola Nicoletta como estas ¡Es un placer volver a hacer una entrevista contigo y saber más sobre ti!

Nicoletta:

​

Gracias a ti Darkzen, es un placer para mí!

​

En primer lugar, te felicito porque te has graduado como veterinario. ¡Un abrazo! ¿Qué hay de tu carrera, cómo lo haces para tener tiempo para todas las cosas, considerando que estás cantando en 2 bandas?

​

Nicoletta:

​

¡Gracias! Bueno, en este momento solo me estoy centrando en la música, intentando descubrir cómo administrar la música y mi trabajo como Veterinario. ¡No sé qué pasará en el futuro!

​

¿Cuál es tu pasión, fascinación y obsesión, la música o la medicina veterinaria?

​

Nicoletta:

​

La música siempre será mi pasión # 1. Además, la medicina veterinaria era algo que quería hacer desde que era niña. Terminé realizando mis dos sueños. ¡A ver qué trae la vida ahora!

​

¿Cuál es tu especie animal favorita?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Alpacas!

​

Tienes una voz muy suave y sobre todo muy melódica, ¡me gusta mucho! ¿Todavía estás entrenando tu voz?

​

Nicoletta:

​

¡Gracias! Empecé a entrenar mi voz después de la liberación de nuestro álbum debut 'Lies' Device 'y todavía estoy trabajando para cantar mejor y para superar mis límites.

​

Además, el año pasado se unió al Proyecto de metal Vivaldi, una ópera sinfónica de metal basada en la obra de Antonio Vivaldi "The Four Seasons". ¿Cómo se siente estar involucrado en este proyecto?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Me sorprendió mucho cuando el mastermid de este Proyecto (Maestro Mistheria) me pidió primero que grabara una parte en el álbum (lanzado en 2016) y luego que me uniera a la banda en vivo de 10 piezas basada en el Proyecto. Hicimos 2 shows el año pasado y grabamos un DVD en vivo, que será lanzado pronto. Es un gran honor para mí ser parte de tal proyecto.

​

¿Qué cantantes / bandas dentro del metal influyeron en tu estilo vocal y en la música de Kalidia? ¿Y fuera de metal?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Como cantante: Fabio Lione, principalmente (¿notaste mi fuerte vibrato? ¡Ahah!), Y como banda: principalmente Kamelot (era de Roy Khan). Fuera del metal, también me encanta la voz de Loreena McKennitt.

​

Darkzen: 

​

Ahora que lo recuerdo si, tienes razón!

​

El nuevo álbum 'The Frozen Throne' fue lanzado el 23 de noviembre. ¡Felicidades! ¿Cuáles son tus sentimientos sobre el nuevo álbum?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Estoy realmente feliz por el increíble resultado que pudimos lograr. Fue un largo proceso desde componer canciones hasta mezclar y masterizar, pero al final lo haríamos de la misma manera. El nuevo álbum es un gran paso adelante en nuestro sonido en comparación con nuestro primer álbum.

​

¿Escribes la letra del nuevo álbum?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Sí, soy la que pone las palabras para las canciones. Sin embargo, a veces discutimos sobre el tema de las canciones todos juntos.

 

Hablemos de ' The Frozen Throne'. Es tu segundo álbum de estudio, ¿Cuál es la diferencia con " Lies’ Device", tu primer álbum que se lanzó en 2014?

Nicoletta:

​

¡Casi todo! Diferentes producciones, arreglos modernos, sonidos grandilocuentes, crecimos mucho como músicos... lo que es lo mismo es nuestra composición melódica, ¡puedes reconocerlo!

​

Darkzen:

​

Si! La composición melódica

​

¿Tienes algunas canciones favoritas de este segundo álbum de estudio?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Esta es una pregunta difícil, ¡es como preguntarle a una madre cuál de sus hijos prefiere! Elegiré mis cuatro canciones favoritas: Frozen Throne, To The Darkness I Belong, Go Beyond, Circe's Spell.

​

¿Por qué elegiste esas canciones para hacer los vídeos? ¿Qué significan esas canciones especiales para ti?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Nuestras ideas fueron muy claras sobre 'Frozen Throne': queríamos un nuevo single fuerte y poderoso. Respecto a los otros dos vídeos, los discutimos con nuestro sello. "Black Sails" es nuestra "canción divertida" del álbum y con su tema pirata fue perfecto para un video de letras, mientras que queríamos hacer un vídeo con una historia para representar nuestra propia versión de la historia de Circe.

​

Tienes una banda de metal gótico Walk In Darkness. Me gusta mucho y el concepto de todo el proyecto, además del mensaje que envía. ¿Podrías describirlo desde tu perspectiva, a los fanáticos que nunca han oído hablar de Walk In Darkness y el concepto?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Walk in Darkness es una misteriosa banda de metal gótico / sinfónico; Además de mí, todos los demás miembros son desconocidos. Las letras son sobre la condición humana en un sentido universal; Las canciones son a veces sobre la modernidad, a veces de naturaleza épica y mitológica, pero siempre hablan de la conciencia y el destino humano.

​

Por lo que puedo escuchar, la música y los temas de las 2 bandas son diferentes, ¿me equivoco?

​

Nicoletta:

​

No estas equivocado. Creo que las dos bandas son muy diferentes, no solo porque la música es completamente diferente sino también por los temas. Las letras de Kalidia están inspiradas en muchas cosas diferentes, como el mito griego, los videojuegos, las historias personales... también creo que mi voz se usa en un estilo diferente.

​

Para ti, ¿Cuál de las dos bandas que tienes te identificas más y por qué?

​

Nicoletta:

​

Amo a ambas bandas, pero digo Kalidia, principalmente porque en esta banda también soy un compositor y el letrista, que no estoy en WID. Además, he fundado Kalidia por mí misma (con Federico - guitarras) hace 9 años.

¿Tienes algún plan para una gira en América Latina? Y México ¿Te gusta la comida mexicana? Cuando vengas a México, ¡te invito a una comida al puro estilo mexicano! :D

Nicoletta:

​

¡Nos encantaría venir, seguro! Por el momento no hemos recibido ninguna oferta... pídele a sus promotores locales que nos reserven 😊 Sólo he probado "nuestra" versión de la comida mexicana (¡que me gusta!) ¡Pero me encantaría probar la original!
