As the snow begins to fall across their home country of Canada, Within Nostalgia gear up to release their second album “Void and Decay”.

​

Formed as a creative outlet for negative emotions, Within Nostalgia came about from the desire to look into the past for a different perspective today. The band expects this offering to be received with curiosity and hopefully with an open mind. Their music, especially this album, has an immense range of genres within it, and being a two-piece collaboration, “Void and Decay” brings on a different dynamic and feel.

The tracks on this album reflect a certain time in the duo’s lives. “Void and Decay” portrays the two extremes; the void is the destined path of our society whereas the decay represents the result of the chaos in the world we live in. The lyrics come from a personal expression that encompasses many forms of emotion and observation as well as relating these things to nature. The inspiration comes from self-reflection and the reflection of the world around us, turning negative events and emotions into something relatable.

The single “Desideratum” was written by Bell shortly after the release of the last album and is the song used for the official single video. The song features heavy guitar riffs, double bass, and harsh vocals with a break just over halfway building up into a furious bridge riff. It ends with the chorus riff into a dead stop. The band explains the single further:

​

“Desideratum means something that is needed or wanted and lyrically it relates to the current state of society with the pandemic and that things like this are necessary to teach us a lesson and to depopulate for the better of the earth.”

​

​

Soft, fast and strong opening, excellent constant chord and dark guttural with a good combination of clean and melancholic voice, it has good rhythmic contrast, fast, constant and later a little slower.

​

Beneath Unworthy Presence

​

We started with a solitary and soft chord, combining rhythmic speed, with a discreet drum gallop, a song also melodic, the combination of voices reminds us of a classic and heavy style.

​

BlackLight

​

We start with a simple, continuous and long riff, discreet chords like the drums, a song a little more melancholic, soft and slow in rhythm under a dark atmosphere with the contrast of voices.

​

Higher Than My Fears

​

An excellent classic doom from the start, the vocal range in combination with the musical scale and slowly and heavily alternating with the melody with long, smooth tempos.

​

Desideratum

​

Closing this album with a very soft and slow atmospheric chord, but later it becomes heavier and more constant, the drums open that path completely, a heartbreaking and somber voice accompanies the entire track until the end.

​

My Recomendation

​

The album is a good very clean production with changes in rhythm at times with that drums which gives it a heavier and darker direction, the guitar solos and separately, they do it with a style with a melodic post metal, the chords have a constant, melodic rhythm and if very soft, all the musical instruments together give it a very powerful melodic, dark and melancholic sound without a doubt.

​

When the rhythm is accelerated, there are explosive moments that give the songs a more raw feeling as it is heard, a combination of a beautiful Doom Metal for the dark tonality with those low but soft riffs, we can also hear a Post Black Metal for The combination of these rhythms, there are Blast beats but soft as well and ragged but not deep voices and sharp chords at times and discreet, with melodies and reflective - melancholic lyrics.

The Voice

​

The combination of Alyssa's voices gives it that Black Metal and Doom atmosphere, ragged and clean voices, dark and melancholic.

A medida que la nieve comienza a caer en su país de origen, Canadá, Within Nostalgia se preparan para lanzar su segundo álbum "Void and Decay".

​

Formado como una salida creativa para las emociones negativas, Within Nostalgia surgió del deseo de mirar al pasado desde una perspectiva diferente hoy. La banda espera que esta oferta sea recibida con curiosidad y, con suerte, con la mente abierta. Su música, especialmente este álbum, tiene una inmensa gama de géneros dentro de ella, y al ser una colaboración de dos piezas, “Void and Decay” trae una dinámica y sensación diferente.

Las pistas de este álbum reflejan un momento determinado en la vida del dúo. "Void and Decay" retrata los dos extremos; el vacío es el camino destinado a nuestra sociedad mientras que la decadencia representa el resultado del caos en el mundo en que vivimos. La letra proviene de una expresión personal que abarca muchas formas de emoción y observación, además de relacionar estas cosas con la naturaleza. La inspiración proviene de la autorreflexión y el reflejo del mundo que nos rodea, convirtiendo los eventos negativos y las emociones en algo identificable.

​

El single “Desideratum” fue escrito por Bell poco después del lanzamiento del último álbum y es la canción utilizada para el video oficial del single. La canción presenta riffs de guitarra pesados, contrabajo y voces ásperas con un descanso a medio camino que se convierte en un riff de puente furioso. Termina con el riff del coro en un punto muerto. La banda explica más el single:

"Desideratum significa algo que se necesita o se desea y líricamente se relaciona con el estado actual de la sociedad con la pandemia y que cosas como esta son necesarias para darnos una lección y despoblar por lo mejor de la tierra".

​

La música oscura y reflexiva de Within Nostalgia se recomienda para los fanáticos de Woods Of Ypres, Agalloch y My Dying Bride.

Inicio suave, veloz y fuerte, excelente acorde constante y gutural sombrío con buena combinación de la voz limpia y melancólica, tiene buen contraste rítmico, veloz, constante y posteriormente un poco más lento.  

​

Beneath Unworthy Presence

​

Arrancamos con acorde solitario y suave, combinando velocidad rítmica, con un galope de batería discreto, una canción también melódica, la combinación de voces nos recuerda es estilo clásico y pesado.

​

BlackLight

​

Tenemos un inicio con un riff sencillo, continuo y largo, acordes discretos al igual que la batería, una canción un poco más melancólica, suave y lenta en ritmo bajo una atmosfera oscura con el contraste de voces.

​

Higher Than My Fears

​

Un excelente doom clásico desde el inicio, el rango en voz en combinación con la escala musical y alternando lentamente y pesadamente con la melodía con tempos largos y suaves.  

​

Desideratum

​

Cerrando este albúm con un acorde atmosférico muy suave y lento, pero posteriormente se hace más pesados y constantes, la batería le abre ese camino totalmente, una voz desgarradora y sombría acompaña en toda la pista hasta el final.

​

Mi Recomendación

​

El albúm es una buena producción muy limpia con cambios en ritmo por momentos con esa batería lo que le da una dirección más pesada y oscura, los solos de guitarra y por separado, lo hacen con un estilo con un post metal melódico, los acordes tienen un ritmo constante, melódico y si muy suave, todos los instrumentos musicales en conjunto le dan sonido melódico, oscuro y melancólico muy poderoso sin duda.

​

Cuando se acelera el ritmo, hay momentos explosivos que le da a las canciones una sensación más cruda tal como se escucha, una combinación de un bello Doom Metal por la tonalidad oscura con esos riffs graves pero suaves, además podemos escuchar un Post Black Metal por la combinación de estos ritmos, hay Blast beats pero suaves también y voces rasgadas pero no profundas y acordes afilados por momentos y discretos, con melodías y letra reflexiva - melancólica.

La Voz

​

La combinación de voces de Alyssa, le da esa ambientación Black Metal y Doom, voces rasgadas y limpias, oscuras y melancólicas.
