Slave to Sirens is the first all female Thrash/Death metal band form Lebanon, formed in 2016. They released their first EP on March 11, 2018, entitled Terminal Leeches and are currently working on their full length album.
Hi band, how are you? thank you very much for having the time for this interview!
StoS:
Hello, Thank you for having us.
Who are Slave to Sirens band! Who are each one?
StoS:
Slave to Sirens formed in 2016, with the full line-up as Maya Khayrallah on vocals, Tatyana Boughaba on drums, Shery Bechara on lead guitar, Lilas Mayassi on rhythm guitar, and Alma Doumani on bass.
How the band formed?
StoS:
Having a mutual friend called Bassem Daibess, Lilas and Shery got introduced to each other through him during a riot in Beirut against the garbage crisis. Later on Tatyana joined since she was in a previous band with Shery and then Lilas got hold of Alma and Maya's contact through Facebook.
Why death and thrash metal? Why did you choose this style?
StoS:
The band's sound was created through the process of creating music, we didn't choose the genre, it chose us. So that was the result of every member's input on the songs and we love it since we all share the love for Metal music.
It's not Common to find a band with a heavier style like Death / Thrash Metal in the Middle East, what do you think about their style? and that makes you very special!
StoS:
You may find some bands here in Lebanon, some are new rising bands, others are old bands who toured Europe like Blaakyum, Phenomy, Kimeara, and Oath to Vanquish, who inspire us and other young local bands. Moreover, the scene or the audience here in Lebanon is small but very supportive.
Darkzen: that is excellent!
You released in the spring of 2018 your first EP 'Terminal Leeches' with varied topics from animal abuse to the perverse acts that make humans in wars, because those issues?
StoS:
Our lyrics are inspired by everyday life events, what we see wrong in human nature and the evil that comes behind it, the society we live in and the ignorance that people carry which blinds them from the truth and reality; hence the leech sticking out from an eye on our EP art.
Who composes the music and who writes the lyrics?
StoS:
Furthermore, composition is collaborated effort, for example, Maya and Lilas write lyrics, Lilas writes some riffs or rhythm parts, Shery writes riffs and the lead parts then works on the structure of the song, then Tatyana writes her drum parts and Alma puts in her touch on the bass.
Are you working on your next album?
StoS:
And yes, we are working on a full-length album and we believe it contains more elements and surprises but it still has the same Slave to Sirens style.
Do you have any tour or visit in any country in Europe or right there in the Middle East?
StoS:
Our first Europe concert was on the 27th and 30th of June 2019 in Glastonbury festival in the UK.

Slave to Sirens es la primera banda femenina de Thrash / Death metal de Líbano, formada en 2016. Lanzaron su primer EP el 11 de marzo de 2018, titulado Terminal Leeches y actualmente están trabajando en su álbum completo.

Hola, gracias por recibirnos.
¿Quiénes son la banda de Slave to Sirens! ¿Quiénes son cada una?
StoS:
Slave to Sirens se formó en 2016, con la formación completa de Maya Khayrallah en la voz, Tatyana Boughaba en la batería, Shery Bechara en la guitarra principal, Lilas Mayassi en la guitarra rítmica y Alma Doumani en el bajo.
¿Cómo se formó la banda?
StoS:
Teniendo un amigo mutuo llamado Bassem Daibess, Lilas y Shery se presentaron a través de él durante una reunión en Beirut contra la crisis de la basura. Más tarde, Tatyana se unió ya que estaba en una banda anterior con Shery y luego Lilas se hizo con el contacto de Alma y Maya a través de Facebook.
¿Por qué el Death y el Thrash metal? ¿Por qué elegiste este estilo?
StoS:
El sonido de la banda se creó a través del proceso de creación de música, no elegimos el género, nos eligió a nosotras. Ese fue el resultado de la opinión de cada miembro sobre las canciones y nos encanta, ya que todos compartimos el amor por la música Metal.
No es común encontrar una banda con un estilo más pesado como Death / Thrash Metal en el Medio Oriente, ¿qué piensas sobre su estilo? y eso las hace muy especial!
StoS:
Puede encontrar algunas bandas aquí en el Líbano, otras son nuevas bandas emergentes, otras son bandas antiguas que recorrieron Europa como Blaakyum, Phenomy, Kimeara y Oath to Vanquish, que nos inspiran a nosotros y a otras bandas locales jóvenes. Además, la escena o la audiencia aquí en el Líbano es pequeña pero muy favorable.
Darkzen: eso es excelente!
Lanzaron en la primavera del 2018 su primer EP ' Terminal Leeches' con variados temas, desde el maltrato animal hasta los actos perversos que hacen que los seres humanos en las guerras, porque esos temas?
StoS:
Nuestras letras están inspiradas en los acontecimientos de la vida cotidiana, lo que vemos mal en la naturaleza humana y el mal que lo acompaña, la sociedad en que vivimos y la ignorancia que las personas llevan, lo que los ciega de la verdad y la realidad; Por lo tanto, la sanguijuela sobresale en nuestro EP.
¿Quién compone la música y quién escribe las letras?
StoS:
Además, la composición es un esfuerzo colaborado, por ejemplo, Maya y Lilas escriben letras de canciones, Lilas escribe algunos riffs o partes de ritmo, Shery escribe riffs y las partes principales luego trabaja en la estructura de la canción, luego Tatyana escribe sus partes de batería y Alma pone Su toque en el bajo.
¿Están trabajando en su próximo álbum?
StoS:
Y sí, estamos trabajando en un álbum de larga duración y creemos que contiene más elementos y sorpresas, pero aún tiene el mismo estilo de Slave to Sirens.
¿Tienen algún tour o visita en algún país de Europa o justo allí en el Medio Oriente?
StoS:
Nuestro primer concierto en Europa tuvo lugar los días 27 y 30 de junio de 2019 en el festival de Glastonbury en el Reino Unido.
