A vocalist and musician who crafts dark songs with haunting melodies and intense messages, Melissa VanFleet brings a true singer/songwriter element to alternative metal music.

 

She has powerfully and effectively established her own unique sound by presenting her signature vocal prowess at the forefront while incorporating her classical and orchestral influences with heavy, melancholic undertones. With the overwhelmingly positive response to her piano versions of metal classics and the subsequent successful release of her acoustic album Metal Lullabies, she has proven that she has only needed a piano and a microphone to captivate listeners. In April 2015, she enchanted audiences on her first European tour and performed on the Wacken Full Metal Cruise II. In February 2017, she recorded at BRX Studio in Milan with the team behind Lacuna Coil's critically acclaimed 2016 album Delirium – producer/bassist Marco "Maki" Coti-Zelati with engineers Marco Barusso, Dario Valentini and Marco D'Agostino – and October 2018

saw the release of her highly anticipated project Ode To The Dark, featuring guest musician Douglas Blair (W.A.S.P.) on lead guitar.

Raven

 

That Melissa's voice! A soft, dramatic, deep and melancholic sound, Melissa's voice gives it a dark atmosphere and with too much passion, a mixture of emotions that are heard and felt, the piano, the guitar and that drums are the only ones that get carried away by Melissa's voice and that piano in the final part!

 

 

Atrophy

 

A more rhythmic song, with a denser sound, the beautiful voice of Melissa with a soft tessitura that suddenly comes out and at other times joins the unison of the song.

 

Marionette

 

A deeper song, with greater exposure of her beautiful voice from the beginning, contrasting with a more continuous, dense sound with a greater musical theme.

 

Ode To the Dark

 

I like that entry with a combination of voices, where we can hear even more the soft and beautiful voice with which Melissa presents us in this last track, in all the songs of this beautiful EP we can hear the vocal intensity with which each part expresses musical in its composition, and especially the guitar solo very shocking.

My Recomendation

 

An excellent opening "Raven", dark and deep, launched last year as a single with an excellent critical musical recognition, and even the transformation with the final title, 'Ode To the Dark' constantly and emotionally shows us an intense voice very characteristic of Melissa with the great ability of composition that shows us with this EP, accompanied by Coti Zelati in the dark atmospheric orchestration, dense and very well executed, with a low tone on all the tracks but suddenly a little more strength and musical intensity with a trademark of Melissa and as of Coti Zelati, a clear and distinctive seal of Gothic Metal emotionally very characteristic, I think it is comparative with the strong and also dark sound of Lacuna Coil, and I could say that it is a EP this year also 2019, I'll wait for the full album.

 

The Voice

 

A beautiful tessitura and vocal range of VanFleet! Soft and with a passion that transmits us with this unique dark style, at no time it stops shining its voice, but on the contrary it comes out quite at all times, where the music follows the voice, having a voice classification as mezzo- soprano with three octave range, deep and comparative voice to the voice of Amy Lee, although I could also say to the beautiful voice of Cristina Scabbia (she is contra alto), for this genre her voice and composition of VanFleet is excellent.

Ella ha establecido poderosamente y efectivamente su propio sonido único al presentar su destreza vocal característica en la vanguardia al tiempo que incorpora sus influencias clásicas y orquestales con matices pesados ​​y melancólicos. Que voz de Melissa! Un sonido suave, dramático, profundo y melancólico, la voz de Melissa le da una atmosfera oscura y con demasiada pasión, una mezcla de emociones que se escuchan y sienten, el piano, la guitarra y esa batería son uno solo que se dejan llevar por la voz de Melissa y ese piano en la parte final! 

 

 

 

Atrophy

 

Una canción más rítmica, con sonido más denso, la bella voz de Melissa con una tesitura suave y que sobre sale de repente y en otros momentos se une al unísono de la canción.

 

Marionette

 

Una canción más profunda, con mayor exposición de su bella voz desde el inicio, contrastando con un sonido más continuo, denso y con mayor temática musical.

Me agrada esa entrada con una combinación de voces, donde podemos escuchar aún más la suave y hermosa voz con la que nos presenta Melissa en este último track, en todas las canciones de este bello EP podemos escuchar la intensidad vocal con la que expresa cada parte musical en su composición, y sobre todo el solo de guitarra muy estremecedor.

Mi Recomendación  

 

Una apertura excelsa "Raven", oscura y profunda, lanzada el año pasado como single con  un reconocimiento crítico musical excelente, y hasta la transformación con el título final, ‘Ode To the Dark’  nos muestra constantemente y emocionalmente una intensa voz muy característica de Melissa junto a la gran capacidad de composición que nos muestra con este EP, acompañada por Coti Zelati en la orquestación atmosférica oscura, densa y muy bien ejecutada , con un tono bajo en todas las pistas pero de repente un poco de mayor fuerza e intensidad musical con una marca registrada de Melissa y como de Coti Zelati, un claro sello y distintivo de Gothic Metal emocionalmente muy característico, creo que es comparativo con el sonido fuerte y también oscuro de Lacuna Coil, y podría decir que es un EP de este año también 2019, esperare el full álbum.

 

La Voz

 

Que bella tesitura y rango vocal de VanFleet! Suave y con una pasión que nos trasmite con este estilo oscuro único, en ningún momento deja de brillar su voz, sino al contrario sobre sale bastante en todo momento, en donde la música sigue a la voz, teniendo una clasificación de voz como mezzo-soprano con un rango de tres octavas, voz grave y comparativa a la voz de Amy Lee, aunque también podría decir a la bella voz de Cristina Scabbia (ella es contra alto), para este género su voz y composición de VanFleet es excelente.
