Kate Nord is a classically trained Finnish singer/songwriter creating symphonic fantasy metal in Central Italy “Compass To Your Heart’s Desire” is Kate Nord’s debut album as a solo artista. Her music is inspired by Scandinavian folk tales about trolls and fairies and the illustrations for those tales, such as the works of John Bauer, and fantasy novels such as the works of J. R.R. Tolkien. All without forgetting about the powerful heavy metal sounds with blasting drums and churning distortion guitars. Kate Nord is the lyricist of the Italian progressive power quintet Noveria since the band’s formation in 2013.

Kate featured as a guest vocalist on the album “Forsaken” (2016, Scarlet Records) by Noveria Her first publication as a solo vocalist was the 2017 cover of Howard Blake’s “Walking In The Air” Kate’s musical curriculum includes formal studies in classical vocals both in Finland and Italy. Kate started her musical studies in Porvoo, Finland with pianist Diana Bärlund, who also taught the former Lordi keyboardist Awa (Leena Peisa).

My Recomendation

Excellent symphonic, operatic, sublime and soft start! With Recitative to the Moon, fully orchestral! In All Alone we have a beautiful symphonic and epic passage, Kate's beautiful voice is fantastic! Clean with a very soft register, the chords give the song a bit of forcefulness, in The North Wind and the Troll we have part of a great musical history with more representative chords! A little more energy and strength, with Wither and Rust (feat. Timo Tolkki) we have a great start with chords on the front line and drums, with more forcefulness, melody and harmony, Kate's beautiful voice gives it that softness and melodic fantasy unique to each song! With Dance of the Fairies we have that line of guitars a little more marked with excellent beginnings in the chords with strength and softness, melodic and harmonic that overlap with her voice! And finally in Aeternam Vale we have a beautiful vocal start Gregorian type and operatic atmospheric in a sublime way! Accompanied by chords with the same line that they have been showing in all the songs.

The album of "Compass to Your Heart's Desire" has a slight tint towards Progressive Metal in some passages but it has a great influence towards classical music, but little by little Metal elements are incorporated, the album has very melodic, harmonic structures with classical music and we can listen to it here! If we see it that way, the album goes with a crescendo movement from the beginning, so it's a good album full of first-line classic elements without reaching the usual ones within this metal genre!

The Voice

Kate Nord's beautiful voice is unique with a clean, white and soft register! Excellent soprano! And the good and different thing is that she doesn't use the combination of female voices with guttural voices either male or female.

Kate Nord es una cantante y compositora finlandesa de formación clásica que crea metal de fantasía sinfónico en el centro de Italia. "Compass To Your Heart's Desire" es el álbum debut de Kate Nord como solista. Su música está inspirada en los cuentos populares escandinavos sobre trolls y hadas y las ilustraciones de esos cuentos, como las obras de John Bauer, y novelas de fantasía como las obras de J. R.R. Tolkien. Todo sin olvidar los poderosos sonidos de heavy metal con tambores a todo volumen y guitarras distorsionadas.

​

Kate Nord es la letrista del quinteto de poder progresivo italiano Noveria desde la formación de la banda en 2013. Kate apareció como vocalista invitada en el álbum "Forsaken" (2016, Scarlet Records) de Noveria. Su primera publicación como vocalista solista fue la versión de 2017 de "Walking In The Air" de Howard Blake. Excelente inicio sinfónico, operístico, sublime y suave! Con Recitative to the Moon, totalmente orquestal! En All Alone tenemos un bello pasaje sinfónico y épico, la bella voz de Kate es fantástica! Limpia con un registro muy suave, los acordes le dan un poco de contundencia a la canción, en The North Wind and the Troll tenemos parte de una gran historia musical con acordes más representativos! Un poco de mayor energía y fuerza, con Wither and Rust (feat. Timo Tolkki) tenemos un gran inicio con acordes en primera línea y batería, con mayor contundencia, melodía y armonía, la bella voz de Kate le da esa suavidad y fantasía melodica única a cada canción! Con Dance of the Fairies tenemos un poco más marcada esa línea de guitarras con excelentes inicios en los acordes con fuerza y suavidad, melódicos y armónicos que se empalman con la voz de ella! Y finalmente en Aeternam Vale tenemos un bello inicio vocal tipo gregoriano y atmosférico operístico de manera excelsa! Acompañado de acordes con la misma línea que han estado ellos mostrando en todas las canciones.

El albúm de  "Compass to Your Heart's Desire" tiene un ligero tinte hacía con Metal Progresivo en algunos pasajes pero tiene una gran influencia hacia la música clásica, pero poco a poco se va incorporando elementos de Metal, el albúm tiene estructuras muy melódicas, armónicas con música clásica y podemos escucharlo aquí! Si lo vemos así el álbum va con un movimiento en crescendo desde el inicio, así que es un buen albúm lleno de elementos clásicos de primera línea sin llegar a los habitual dentro de este genero del metal!

La Voz

La bella voz de Kate Nord es única con un registro limpio, blanco y suave! Soprano excelsa! Y lo bueno y diferente es que no usa la combinación de voces femeninas con voces guturales ya sea masculina o femeninas.
