Official Biography:

 

Hangatyr is a German group whose name pays tribute to the god Odin. This band released their latest album titled “Kalt” which combines the darkness of black metal with some melodic elements and german lyrics inspired by norse mythology.

Niedergang:

 

It is the first song on this album and from the first chords you can perceive the cold atmosphere that characterized the Nordic regions and that Hangatyr has sought to describe in this song through Frost, who within Nordic mythology was considered the father of the winter. With a musical style that evokes the old school of European black metal where the guitar riffs, the double bass drum and the vocal part are the protagonists.

 

Ich entrant:

 

This song has a more melodic orientation and describes one of the most emblematic places in Norse mythology: Niflheim, whose name means "home of the mist". Silvio's vocal performance evokes a feeling of despair when traveling in that environment characterized by coldness and density, the constant changes of rhythm that the song presents together with the choral support add more realism.

 

Firnheim:

 

The third song on this album is characterized by the aggressiveness of the guitars recreating the cold environment described above. Firnheim alludes to fate, which according to Nordic mythology is determined by three norms: Urd, Wyrd and Skuld (in German) in which present, past and future are intertwined, in musical terms, this song also mixes some contrasting melodic elements with Silvio's guttural voices.

 

Blick aus Eis:

 

Being one of the songs with the most sentimental load on this album, Blick aus Eins seeks to relate the accumulation of emotions generated in the human being in this cold environment such as depression. Silvio's vocal performance adds more realism.

 

Kalter Grund:

 

Continuing with the emotional charge that has characterized this album we find Kalter Grund, who describes that feeling of uncertainty and despair being represented through vocal performance. On an instrumental level, that cold atmosphere continues to be created that combines the strength of black metal with some melodic contributions in the execution of the guitar.

 

... kalt:

 

It is an instrumental song that transports us high in the mountains in a cold and snowy environment. The guitar chords add that feeling of melancholy and loneliness.

 

Mittwinter:

 

This song takes up the instrumentation of its predecessor in which the vocalist uses a throaty voice that combines elements of the old and the new school of black metal. Despite being one of the longest-running songs on this album, it presents different changes in sound through the execution of the guitars, bass and drums, making it more dynamic for the listener.

 

Verweht:

 

The last song on this album addresses the transcendence of the human being, generating a kind of retrospective while making his entrance to the land of the dead, which according to Nordic mythology Nifelheim traces the path to Helheim. Throughout the song some orchestral elements can be perceived that perform accompaniment to the instruments performed by Ali, Tele, Marco and Micha.

 

Comments and recommendation:

 

Hangatyr has presented a musical proposal that combines elements of the old and the new school of black metal characterized by darkness, aggressiveness and melancholy through instrumentation and vocal performance in which feelings such as loneliness, despair and the fear. It is an album that fuses the origins of its members under a metaphor that forces us to question ourselves about our existence. It is a musical work that I highly recommend.

Biografía Oficial:

 

Hangatyr es una agrupación alemana cuyo nombre rinde tributo al dios Odín. Esta banda presentó su último álbum titulado “Kalt” que combina la oscuridad del black metal con algunos elementos melódicos y letras en alemán inspiradas en la mitología nórdica.

 

Banda: Hangatyr.

 

País: Alemania.

Niedergang:

 

Es la primera canción de este álbum y desde los primeros acordes se puede percibir el ambiente frío que caracterizaba las regiones nórdicas y que Hangatyr ha buscado describir en esta canción a través de Frost, que dentro de la mitología nórdica se le consideraba como el padre del invierno. Con un estilo musical que evoca a la vieja escuela del black metal europeo donde los riffs de la guitarras, el doble bombo de la batería y la parte vocal son los protagonistas.

 

Entferntes Ich:

 

Esta canción presenta una orientación más melódica y describe uno de los lugares más emblemáticos de la mitología nórdica: Niflheim, cuyo nombre significa “hogar de la niebla”. La interpretación vocal de Silvio evoca un sentimiento de desesperación al transitar en ese ambiente caracterizado por la frialdad y la densidad, los constantes cambios de ritmo que presenta la canción aunado al apoyo coral le añaden mayor realismo.

 

Firnheim:

 

La tercera canción de este álbum se caracteriza por la agresividad de las guitarras recreando el ambiente frío descrito con anterioridad. Firnheim alude al destino, que según la mitología nórdica está determinado por tres nornas: Urd, Wyrd y Skuld (en alemán) en el que presente, pasado y futuro se encuentran entrelazados, en términos musicales, esta canción también mezcla algunos elementos melódicos que contrastan con las voces guturales de Silvio.

 

Blick aus Eis:

 

Siendo una de las canciones con mayor carga sentimental de este álbum, Blick aus Eins busca relatar el cúmulo de emociones generadas en el ser humano en este ambiente de frialdad como lo es la depresión. La interpretación vocal de Silvio la añade mayor realismo.

 

Kalter Grund:

 

Continuado con la carga emocional que ha caracterizado a este álbum nos encontramos con Kalter Grund, que describe esa sensación de incertidumbre y desesperación siendo representadas a través de la interpretación vocal. A nivel instrumental, se sigue creando esa atmósfera de frialdad que combina la fuerza del black metal con algunos aportes melódicos en la ejecución de la guitarra.

 

...kalt:

 

Es una canción instrumental que nos traslada lo alto de las montañas en un ambiente frío y nevado. Los acordes de las guitarras le añaden esa sensación de melancolía y soledad.

 

Mittwinter:

 

Esta canción retoma la instrumentación de su antecesora en la que vocalista hace empleo de una voz gutural que combina elementos de la vieja y la nueva escuela del black metal. Pese a ser una de las canciones de mayir duración de este álbum presenta diferentes cambios de sonido a través de la ejecución de las guitarras, el bajo y la batería haciéndola más dinámica para el oyente.

 

Verweht:

 

La última canción de este álbum aborda la trascendencia del ser humano generando una especie de retrospectiva a la vez que realiza su entrada a la tierra de los muertos, que de acuerdo con la mitología nórdica Nifelheim traza el camino a Helheim. A lo largo de la canción se pueden percibir algunos elementos orquestales que realizan acompañamiento a los instrumentos ejecutados por  Ali, Tele, Marco y Micha.

 

Comentarios y recomendación:

 

Hangatyr ha presentado una propuesta musical que combina elementos de la vieja y la nueva escuela del black metal caracterizado por la oscuridad, la agresividad y la melancolía a través de la instrumentación y la interpretación vocal en la que destacan sentimientos como la soledad, la desesperación y el miedo. Es un álbum que fusiona los orígenes de sus integrantes bajo una metáfora que obliga a cuestionarnos sobre nuestra existencia. Es un trabajo musical que recomiendo ampliamente.

 

Calificación:
