From the ashes of Azra’il, that survived for almost 3 years, Bloody Unicorn was born. During the last trimester of 2018, the first line-up split in half and only two members remained. After a little break, Irene and Davy decided to go on with the project and they chose Lorenzo Telve (Barbarossa, Canticum Diaboli, ex-Vereor Nox) as the new drummer of the band.

How have you been?
Irene
Fine, thank you
Irene! Tell us about your musical influences! What else do you like besides Death Metal?
Well, I started to listen to music with artists like Jon Bon Jovi, Europe, Bruce Springsteen, Annie Lennox, Spice Girls and so... Then, at the age of 15, I fell in love with Nightwish and metal. By now, I listen to kind of everything from power to black metal. If I like it, I listen to it. I don’t mind if it’s metal, rock, pop or even rap. I have some genres that I don’t like, but they are not many.
Darkzen:
That is musical variety!
How do you train that voice so loud and rough that you have?
Irene
You know, I’ve been a self-taugh for most of my life, but I also took some voice lessons time by time. My “secret” is to keep on practicing day by day, even just a little. I can’t do extreme vocals at my home, because my parents have also night shifts at work, so they need to rest. But I keep on doing little excercising everyday and I pay lot of attention on my warm-up (I can’t go on stage without at least half an hour warmup, my anxiety kills me). A lot of people ask me how I do growl and the only thing I can say is: try, practice and find a good vocal coach with experience in extreme vocals that can train you in best way. Listen to your body and don’t give up.
Why is the name of your band called Blood Unicorn and why the contrast between a softer scenery and a totally very hard musical style?
Irene
We found the name “Bloody Unicorn” in a pretty funny way, when we were searching for the first name of the band. We didn’t take it seriously, ‘till the line up changes of last year. I wanted to change the name and, thinking about it in a deeper way, Bloody Unicorn was perfect for us. The unicorn is known as a pure animal, something “good”. But Blood is not, it’s something dirty and dark. So we chose to keep it and give it a meaning.
The contrast between softer and harder scenery came naturally along with compositions and we like it a lot.
The lyrics are very well attached to the theme of your album, who wrote the lyrics? I like that darkness! That your album have
Irene
Thank you! I wrote the lyrics. When it comes to themes, it’s all on me. Davy writes the guitar and a bit of drums, then Lorenzo give him a hand to finish the job, then I write the lyrics and vocal lines. We found our balance with this workflow.
Do you like Melodic Death, would you like to sing along with some singer of this style? Like who?
Irene
Yes, I do like it, but I don’t follow much the genre. If I have to pick a singer that does my same stile, I would pick Tatiana Shmaylyuck or Lena Scissorhand, in this moment. I’m pretty obsessed with Jinjer and Infected Rain’s new material.

Super heavy them two! I also love how they sing! Greetings to Tatiana and Lena! They are brutal!
Do you like Symphonic Death? The beginning of your album has a great overture! Why the idea of introducing this beginning?
Irene
Yes I do! Our overture was inspired by that genre. The idea came with the first gigs announcements, because we wanted an overture for them. In the beginning it wasn’t supposed to be in the EP, but we ended up adding it. It was too cool.
Will any other video have this album? What theme would it be?
Irene
Yes, there’s a little surprise coming from Of Monsters Under the Bed and I suggest to follow our social channels to find out what it will be! No spoilers here!
Now after this great step! What's next for Blood Unicorn band? What are your plans for next year?
Irene
We have plenty of plans, fortunately. We are booking more gigs for 2020 and we are planning more songs to come out. If we feel inspired, maybe we’ll start to work on the next LP.
What would you say to Melodic Death fans? of Blood Unicorn
Irene
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. To everyone who listened to us, gave us his opinion, ordered our cd or just have a chit chat with us during our gigs. We are extremely happy of the response with are having with the audience and it goes behond every forecast.
Do you have any tours in your country?
Irene
We have some dates booked, but I won’t call it a “tour”, for now.

De las cenizas de Azra’il, que sobrevivió durante casi 3 años, nació Bloody Unicorn. Durante el último trimestre de 2018, la primera formación se dividió por la mitad y solo quedaron dos miembros. Después de un pequeño descanso, Irene y Davy decidieron continuar con el proyecto y eligieron a Lorenzo Telve (Barbarossa, Canticum Diaboli, ex-Vereor Nox) como el nuevo baterista de la banda.

Hola gracias a ti ¿Cómo has estado?

Bien, gracias
Irene! ¡Cuéntanos sobre tus influencias musicales! ¿Qué más te gusta además del Death Metal?
Bueno, comencé a escuchar música con artistas como Jon Bon Jovi, Europa, Bruce Springsteen, Annie Lennox, Spice Girls y demás... Luego, a los 15 años, me enamoré de Nightwish y el metal. Por ahora, escucho todo, desde el poder hasta el black metal. Si me gusta, lo escucho. No me importa si es metal, rock, pop o incluso rap. Tengo algunos géneros que no me gustan, pero no son muchos.

Eso es variedad musical!
¿Cómo entrenas esa voz tan fuerte y áspera que tienes?
Irene
Sabes, he sido un imitador durante la mayor parte de mi vida, pero también tomé algunas lecciones de voz de vez en cuando. Mi "secreto" es seguir practicando día a día, aunque sea un poco. No puedo hacer voces extremas en mi casa, porque mis padres también tienen turnos nocturnos en el trabajo, por lo que necesitan descansar. Pero sigo haciendo poco ejercicio todos los días y presto mucha atención a mi calentamiento (no puedo subir al escenario sin al menos media hora de calentamiento, mi ansiedad me mata). Mucha gente me pregunta cómo gruño y lo único que puedo decir es: intente, practique y encuentre un buen entrenador vocal con experiencia en voces extremas que pueda entrenarlo de la mejor manera. Escucha a tu cuerpo y no te rindas.
¿Por qué el nombre de tu banda se llama Blood Unicorn y por qué el contraste entre un escenario más suave y un estilo musical totalmente muy duro?

Encontramos el nombre "Bloody Unicorn" de una manera bastante divertida, cuando buscábamos el primer nombre de la banda. No nos lo tomamos en serio ‘hasta que cambie la formación del año pasado. Quería cambiar el nombre y, pensando en ello de manera más profunda, Bloody Unicorn fue perfecto para nosotros. El unicornio es conocido como un animal puro, algo "bueno". Pero la sangre no lo es, es algo sucio y oscuro. Así que elegimos conservarlo y darle un significado.
El contraste entre un escenario más suave y más duro vino naturalmente junto con las composiciones y nos gusta mucho.
Las letras están muy bien unidas al tema de tu álbum, ¿quién las escribió? Me gusta esa oscuridad! Que tu álbum tiene

¡Gracias! Escribí la letra. Cuando se trata de temas, todo depende de mí. Davy escribe la guitarra y un poco de batería, luego Lorenzo le echa una mano para terminar el trabajo, luego escribo la letra y las líneas vocales. Encontramos nuestro equilibrio con este flujo de trabajo.
¿Te gusta Melodic Death, te gustaría cantar junto con algún cantante de este estilo? ¿Cómo quién?

Sí, me gusta, pero no sigo mucho el género. Si tuviera que elegir un cantante que hiciera mí mismo estilo, elegiría Tatiana Shmaylyuck o Lena Scissorhand, en este momento. Estoy bastante obsesionada con el nuevo material de Jinjer e Infected Rain.

¿Te gusta el Death Sinfónico? ¡El comienzo de tu álbum tiene una gran obertura! ¿Por qué la idea de introducir este comienzo?
Irene
¡Sí! Nuestra obertura se inspiró en ese género. La idea surgió con los primeros anuncios de conciertos, porque queríamos una obertura para ellos. Al principio no se suponía que estuviera en el EP, pero terminamos agregándolo. Fue demasiado genial.
¿Algún otro vídeo tendrá este álbum? ¿Qué tema sería?

Ahora después de este gran paso! ¿Qué sigue para la banda Blood Unicorn? Cuáles son tus planes para el próximo año?

Tenemos muchos planes, afortunadamente. Estamos reservando más conciertos para 2020 y estamos planeando que salgan más canciones. Si nos sentimos inspirados, tal vez comencemos a trabajar en el próximo LP.
