Greetings friends! This is the last Interview of the year! A year full of talent and women with a beautiful voice! This time we closed strong with a Mexican band to be heard around the world!

 

Caligatum is a Melodic Metal band originally from Mazatlan Sinaloa, known for his music that is wrapped in a unique atmosphere with aggressive rhythms and acoustic distortions that contrast with the perfect combination of lyrical / popular, throaty voice.

How have you been?

 

I’m fine, thank you. Happy for this interview.

 

Tell us, how has been the trajectory of Caligatum?

 

It's been short and long at the same time, there's been many lineup changes.

We have years with this project but with a lot of intermissions and now we're trying to make up our time lost.

 

How did the band begin?

 

Caligatum began at the year 2008 with the name of ''nocturnal''.

In 2012 we changed the name for identity questions.

At the beginning we tried with Doom Metal but then  we let things flow by themselves.

Each member of the band have their own influence.

 

What do you want to convey with your music?

 

Our music it's about different social issues like death in its rawest expression and of course, deities. The wealth of ideas in each song can convey many emotions like destructive and calmed. We are based on the duality of existence.

 

How did you start with this genre?

 

I started at 11 years listening rock music! I'd always dreamed about being a singer.

When i was 13 years i listened for the first time a mix of metal with classical music and i fell in love immediately!!.

 

Also i knew more about lyrical voice and then i met my real passion, the heavy music with a little bit of classical music.

 

I suddenly knew what i'd like to do with the rest of my life!.

What is your favorite music?

 

Doom, Melodic metal, symphonic metal and of course classical music!!

I love boleros and mexican music.

 

How was your vocal training?

 

I started at 15 years in the chorus of my town (Chorus Angela Peralta) and i fell in love of opera!

Later at my eighteen years i started taking lessons of classical music technique and i joined to the opera workshop of Guillermo Sarabia.

He gave me the opportunity of being soloist at concerts and opera assemblies.

I was part of famous operas and took lessons with famous teachers.

I've known great singing teachers and nowadays i'm taking lessons in Guadalajara, here i'm member of Guiseppe's Verdi opera Workshop. So i can tell my vocal training has been lyrical.

 

What does the band name mean?

 

The name it means ''Full of darkness'' and represents the balance of  life.

Represents the human nature, the good and evil, the light and the darkness.

 

Do you have another job? What are your hobbies?

 

I work with music full-time, if i'm not rehearsing with my band i'm taking singing lessons. Also i teach singing. I like travelling, reading and photo editing.

 

Do you write some songs?

 

Yes, i try to be involved at 100% in Caligatum songs.

 

There'll be a new video soon?

 

Of course! we will record a live session and we're planning to record a official videoclip of Caligatum.

 

What surprises does Caligatum have for us this 2016?

 

A lot of gigs through mexican republic. Also we're finishing the composition of the album and the videoclip.

 

 

Tell us, how was your experience with Therion, Elitania and other bands?

It was a rewarding experience with my friends of Elitania. Living this kind of experiences with great people who share the same dream, it is wonderful!

Also it was great playing with such a professional and famous band like ''El cuervo de Poe'', I have learned a lot from them! and i admire them so much!.

 

Therion it's a great band! i love them! and they are one of my biggest influences within metal music; they let me speechless.

Saludos amigos! Esta es la última entrevista del año! Un año lleno de talento y de mujeres con una voz hermosa! Esta ocasión cerramos fuerte con una banda Mexicana a ser escuchada en todo el mundo!

 

Caligatum es una banda de Metal Melódico originario de Mazatlán Sinaloa, conocidos por su música que se envuelve en una atmósfera única con ritmos acústicos y distorsiones agresivas que contrastan con la unión perfecta entre voz lírica/popular y gutural.

Mi amiga, muchas gracias!!!!  Como has estado?

 

R.Estoy muy bien muchas gracias, muy contenta por la entrevista.

 

Cuéntanos como ha sido la Trayectoria de Caligatum?

 

R. Larga y corta a la vez, muchos cambios de alineación... llevamos años con el proyecto pero en el camino hubieron muchos descansos, ahora estamos tratando de recuperar el tiempo perdido.

 

Como se forma el grupo?

 

R. Caligatum se forma en el año 2008 bajo el nombre de “Nocturnal”, fué hasta el 2012 que se cambió el nombre a “Caligatum” por cuestiones de identidad. En un inicio todo iba dirigido al Doom Metal, pero después dejamos que las cosas se dieran por su propia naturaleza y cada quién participara aportando su propia influencia.

 

Que nos trasmite su música?

 

R. Nuestra música está basada en distintos temas sociales, la muerte en su expresión mas cruda, deidades; la riqueza de ideas de cada una de nuestras canciones nos permite transmitir muchas emociones tanto destructivas como serenas, muchos sentimientos encontrados. Nos basamos en la dualidad de la existencia.

 

Como llego Arianna a este género?

 

R. A los 11 años comencé escuchando Rock, siempre soñe con ser cantante pero necesitaba algo mas. Fue a los 13 años que escuche la mezcla del Metal combinada con música Clásica lo que me enamoró, y no se diga la introducción de una voz Lírica la que me llevo a mis pasiones, que eran la música pesada, con el virtuosismo de la música Clásica, de ahí supe a lo que me iba dedicar en la vida.

 

Qué tipo de música te gusta dentro y fuera del Metal?

 

R. La música clásica principalmente, el Doom, Metal Melódico y Sinfónico... me encantan los Boleros y la Música Mexicana.

 

Como fue tu entrenamiento vocal?

 

R. Empecé a los 15 años en el coro de mi ciudad (Coro Ángela Peralta), ahí me enamoré por completo de la Ópera; a los 18 años entré a la carrera para tomar clases formal y puramente con técnica clásica. Pertenecí al taller de Ópera Guillermo Sarabia donde me dieron la oportunidad de participar como solista en conciertos y ensambles de ópera, además de formar parte en grandes puestas en escena de Óperas famosas y cursos con maestros muy reconocidos. He pasado por grandes maestros de canto y actualmente sigo tomando clases aquí en Guadalajara donde    formo parte del Taller de Ópera Guiseppe Verdi.  Asi que, que te puedo decir... mi entrenamiento vocal ha sido solamente Lírico.

 

Que significa el nombre de la banda?

 

R. El nombre significa “Lleno de tinieblas”, representa el equilibrio de la vida misma, de la naturaleza humana... el bien y el mal, luz y oscuridad.

 

Tienes otra ocupación aparte de ser cantante o hobbies?

 

R. Todo mi tiempo se lo dedico a la música, cuando no estoy ensayando con mi banda estoy en mis clases de canto o dando clases de canto. Me gusta viajar, leer y la edición fotográfica y de video.

 

Escribes algunas canciones?

 

R. Si, trato de involucrarme 100% en las canciones de Caligatum.

 

Algún video en especial próximamente?

 

R. Claro, próximamente grabaremos un Live Sesión y tenemos planeado para el próximo año grabar el Video Clip oficial de Caligatum.

 

Que sorpresa nos tienes junto a Caligatum en este 2016?

 

R. Gira por varios Estados de la Republica, también estamos terminando la composición del disco y como te mencioné anteriormente un Video Clip.

 

Cuéntanos como fue la experiencia junto a Therion, Elitania entre otras bandas?

 

R. Fué una experiencia bastante enriquecedora al lado de mis grandes amigos de Elitania. Vivir éste tipo de experiencias a lado de personas tan lindas, que comparten el mismo sueño que yo, es tan gratificante. También tocar a lado de una banda tan profesional y reconocida como El Cuervo De Poe  me ha dejado muchas enseñanzas, los admiro mucho y ni se diga de Therion: tremenda banda, que me encanta y son de mis más grandes influencias dentro del Metal, no tengo palabras!

 

Algo más que nos quisieras compartir?

 

R. No me queda más que agradecerte a ti por todo tu apoyo, por tu trabajo y esfuerzo que hace que en la escena se den a conocer nuevos proyectos para que esto crezca cada vez más.
