Astralium (Italian Symphonic metal band), called Black Roses before changing the name, was born in 2014 thanks to the soprano Roberta Pappalardo and the bass man Giuseppe Pappalardo. After many changes, the first line-up establishes with Emanuele Alessandro on the guitar and Corrado Geniale (ex-Tamed Darts) on the drums. Between 2014 and 2016 Astralium, with this line-up, takes part to various Heavy Metal local festivals and all around Italy. The first was the Steel Legion Fest with Steel Raiser and several other bands. Astralium is successful and receives good live report/reviews from the Heavy Metal webzine, with the beautiful and eclectic voice of Roberta. In the summer 2017 Corrado Geniale leaves the band for personal reasons and the band welcomes Salvo Grasso (Hypersonic, Metatrone, ex-Denied).

Let's start the interview! Tell us a little about yourself! Roberta
Ok! My name is Roberta Pappalardo I studied piano for 10 years, then I graduated from the Conservatories of Catania and Messina, in Sicily, and I got to know music in all its forms. I was born in Noto (Syracuse) on April 18th 1988 and music has always been part of my life since I was still a child. My father played and sang in a band and so it was thanks to him that I developed my musical ear and loved music.
Who is Roberta inside and out of stage?
Roberta
Amazing question!!! So, Roberta on stage is different from Roberta off stage, because when she is on stage she frees her true being, all the fears and blocks, the wounds and joys, she takes off the mask and see it genuine, as she is . Outside the scenes, she is a normal person with her strengths and weaknesses, with her passions and like everyone wearing a mask she uses to protect herself and look strong.

What musical influences do you have?

I have many musical influences. I started singing pop music, then I approached rock and then metal (progressive, alternative, gothic and symphonic). In symphonic metal I am inspired by bands like Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot, Lacuna Coil, Edenbridge, Delain, Within Temptation and many others.

Congratulations for your great album! What is your magic for the beautiful voice you have?
Roberta
Thanks for the compliment! The only secret I have for my voice is not to drink a lot and not to smoke. I am very interested in the health of my vocal cords and the study of vocal technique also helps me a lot.
What is your voice range? Would you like to alternate with some Soprano or Tenor? Like which?
Roberta
My vocal range is typical of a dramatic soprano and I would like to alternate with a tenor as has already happened in the song "The World of Unknown" of our debut album "Land of Eternal Dreams".

Do you have any other hobbies besides singing? How to play an instrument?
Roberta
Yes, I have other hobbies. I play the piano in addition to singing and I am very interested in ancient pagan cults and Celticism. I also like to read a lot of personal evolution books and urban fantasy novels.
Now how your band was formed?
Roberta
The band was formed in 2010 from my own idea and that of bassist Giuseppe Pappalardo (my father) and had as objective to play the most beautiful rock / metal covers. After joining drummer Salvo Grasso, we had the input to create our own music.

Who are the members of your band? introduce all of you with us!
Astralium are:
Giuseppe Pappalardo on bass, Salvo Grasso on drums and the male voice, Emanuele Alessandro on guitar and of course me on the main female voice of the band and on the piano.
Tell us your brief history within the music each of you Astralium members!
Salvo Grasso, our drummer, is a member of two other beautiful bands: Hypersonic and Metatrone. He is the only member of the Astralium to have known metal in adolescence. He has already composed songs and written lyrics for the bands I have already mentioned. So among all of us he is the one who has the most experience in the field of albums, records, etc. Giuseppe Pappalardo, our bass player, who is my father, is a self-taught person with a lot of musical experience in many different genres. As a boy, he played in a pop / rock band, then his presence in various shows forged the musician he is today. Emanuele Alessandro, our guitarist, boasts, in his training as a musician, valid teachers like Massimiliano Cona and Andrea Martongelli (Arthemis) who was also our guest in Land Of Eternal Dreams. He played with small local bands but managed to do his best when he joined Astralium.
For the whole band: Was the production of this super album complicated? Land of Eternal Dreams
The production of this album was not complicated, but certainly laborious and very attentive to details. We have paid a lot of attention to arragments but also to the voice in the studio. There have been two years of intense work, but we are more than satisfied with the final result.
The lyric and musical composition of who was the main idea and who contributed to the lyrics? the album is great!
Thank you for appreciation! The lyrics are all composed by me, except in the song "Seven Seas, Seven Winds" where they were composed exclusively by Salvo Grasso. I, Salvo and Giuseppe contributed to the musical composition of the songs. The idea of dealing with topics such as the astral world, dreams, magic in each of us and the emotional, spiritual inner aspect is only mine, because I am also passionate about these topics.
For you Roberta: is this album a goal or a path for the following Astralium plans?

First of all it is a wish that has come true. Secondly, it is the beginning of a journey that I hope will become very long.
Will you have another new video of any song from this album coming soon?
No, at the moment only the official video clip of "The Journey" and the lyric video of "Rising Waves From The Ocean" with Tommy Johanson (Sabaton / Majestica) are officially released and are visible on YouTube.
Some dates where you will have a tour coming in and out of your country?
No, at the moment we have no scheduled tours but we hope so soon.

What would you say to readers to be trapped by the Astralium music?
For all those who are curious to take an astral journey and dream of wonderful places with the mind, for those who love good music and are fans of symphonic metal and want to listen to something innovative, I recommend buying and listening to "Land of Eternal Dreams"by Astralium!!!

Astralium (banda italiana de metal sinfónico), llamada Black Roses antes de cambiar el nombre, nació en 2014 gracias a la soprano Roberta Pappalardo y al bajista Giuseppe Pappalardo. Después de muchos cambios, la primera formación se establece con Emanuele Alessandro en la guitarra y Corrado Geniale (ex-Tamed Darts) en la batería. Entre 2014 y 2016, Astralium, con esta alineación, participa en varios festivales locales de Heavy Metal y en toda Italia. El primero fue el Steel Legion Fest con Steel Raiser y varias otras bandas. Astralium tiene éxito y recibe buenos informes / reseñas en vivo de la webzine de Heavy Metal, con la bella y ecléctica voz de Roberta. ¡Comencemos la entrevista! ¡Cuéntanos un poco sobre ti! Roberta
¡Okay! Mi nombre es Roberta Pappalardo. Estudié piano durante 10 años, luego me gradué de los Conservatorios de Catania y Messina, en Sicilia, y conocí la música en todas sus formas. Nací en Noto (Syracuse) el 18 de abril de 1988 y la música siempre ha sido parte de mi vida desde que era niña. ¿Quién es Roberta dentro y fuera del escenario?

Una pregunta asombrosa!!! Entonces, Roberta en el escenario es diferente de Roberta fuera del escenario, porque cuando está en el escenario libera su verdadero ser, todos los miedos y bloqueos, las heridas y las alegrías, se quita la máscara y lo ve genuino, tal como es. Fuera de escena, es una persona normal con sus fortalezas y debilidades, con sus pasiones y como todos los que usan una máscara que usa para protegerse y verse fuerte.

¿Qué influencias musicales tienes?

Tengo muchas influencias musicales. Comencé a cantar música pop, luego me acerqué al rock y luego al metal (progresivo, alternativo, gótico y sinfónico). En el metal sinfónico me inspiran bandas como Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot, Lacuna Coil, Edenbridge, Delain, Within Temptation y muchas otras.

¡Felicitaciones por tu gran álbum! ¿Cuál es tu magia para la hermosa voz que tienes?

¡Gracias por el cumplido! El único secreto que tengo para mí voz es no beber mucho y no fumar. Estoy muy interesada en la salud de mis cuerdas vocales y el estudio de la técnica vocal también me ayuda mucho.
¿Cuál es tu rango de voz? ¿Te gustaría alternar con algún soprano o tenor? ¿Cómo cuál?

Mi rango vocal es típico de una soprano dramática y me gustaría alternar con un tenor como ya ha sucedido en la canción "The World of Unknown" de nuestro álbum debut "Land of Eternal Dreams".

¿Tienes otros pasatiempos además de cantar? ¿Cómo tocar un instrumento?

Sí, tengo otros pasatiempos. Toco el piano además de cantar y estoy muy interesada en los antiguos cultos paganos y el celticismo. También me gusta leer muchos libros de evolución personal y novelas de fantasía urbana.
¿Cómo se formó tu banda?
Roberta
La banda se formó en 2010 a partir de mi propia idea y la del bajista Giuseppe Pappalardo (mi padre) y tenía como objetivo tocar las más bellas versiones de rock / metal. Después de unirnos al batería Salvo Grasso, tuvimos la entrada para crear nuestra propia música.

Giuseppe Pappalardo en el bajo, Salvo Grasso en la batería y la voz masculina, Emanuele Alessandro en la guitarra y, por supuesto, yo en la voz principal de la banda y en el piano.

Salvo Grasso, nuestro baterista, es miembro de otras dos hermosas bandas: Hypersonic y Metatrone. Es el único miembro del Astralium que ha conocido el metal en la adolescencia. Él ya ha compuesto canciones y letras escritas para las bandas que ya he mencionado. La producción de este álbum no fue complicada, pero ciertamente laboriosa y muy atenta a los detalles. Hemos prestado mucha atención a los arreglos, pero también a la voz en el estudio. Han pasado dos años de intenso trabajo, pero estamos más que satisfechos con el resultado final.
¿La composición lírica y musical de quién fue la idea principal y quién contribuyó a la letra? ¡El álbum es genial!
Gracias por tu apreciación! Las letras están compuestas por mí, excepto en la canción "Seven Seas, Seven Winds", donde fueron compuestas exclusivamente por Salvo Grasso. Yo, Salvo y Giuseppe contribuimos a la composición musical de las canciones. La idea de tratar temas como el mundo astral, los sueños, la magia en cada uno de nosotros y el aspecto interno emocional y espiritual es solo mía, porque también me apasionan estos temas.

¿es este álbum un objetivo o un camino para los siguientes planes de Astralium?

En primer lugar, es un deseo que se ha hecho realidad. En segundo lugar, es el comienzo de un viaje que espero sea muy largo.
¿Tendrán otro nuevo vídeo de alguna canción de este álbum próximamente?
No, por el momento solo el video oficial de "The Journey" y el video de la letra de "Rising Waves From The Ocean" con Tommy Johanson (Sabaton / Majestica) se lanzan oficialmente y son visibles en YouTube.
¿Algunas fechas en las que tendrás una gira entrando y saliendo de tu país?
No, por el momento no tenemos visitas programadas, pero esperamos que sea pronto.
