Sinister Downfall is a German Funeral Doom band, founded in 2016 by its only member Eugen Kohl. Eugen, in turn, is active in many genres and directions of the metal scene. In addition to Sinister Downfall, his current bands include: Crypt Witch, Donarhall, Necrochaos, Death Carrier, Nihilisticon, Hexengrab, as well as Urschmerz and Dark Fields. Eugen is responsible for the complete songwriting and all the instruments, and is also responsible for mixing and mastering all his works himself.

In May 2020, with the help of two important doom labels Funere (Armenia) and Weird Truth Productions (Japan), the second Sinister Downfall album was released, entitled A DARK SHINING LIGHT.

​

Each of the five tracks on the album is filled with endless darkness that keeps the listener in their cold embrace for 50 minutes. Heavy and diverse riffs, like a stone chained to your feet, drag you further and further into the depths of mourning, pain and hopelessness. Grieving solo guitars gracefully complete the funeral with their singing, giving the story even more substance.

A Dark Shining Light

​

A long, slow chord, a track with a totally bleak and terrifying vibe, razor sharp background ambient sounds, the voice is exceedingly sinister! You can feel and hear a little bit more melodic tempos, along with synthesizers, and great chords, tremendous dark atmosphere and very deep gutturals, slow and lonely notes that give a unique feeling of dread!

Shape In The Mist

​

A continuation with the same tempo, execution and melodic arrangements, deep guttural and sad, a phase of plucked guitar chords, and this softens the song and the perception of it towards lighter tones, later we are surprised by the strength of those notes with a heavier chord and denser drums.

​

Reaching For The Dead

​

Totally a different rhythm and sounds, it leaves aside the darkest and most terrifying part, they accompany us with a sharper guitar chord from the beginning but later it plunges us into the shadows and desolation of this exquisite Doom Metal so funereal and sinister.

​

Bury Your Thoughts

​

We entered an intense phase within the album, in my opinion, the title is very hard and strong, slow chords, sharp and sustained guitars, a little speed in the melody, strong and aggressive gutturals, a few quiet beats of the guitars, the fatality develops and expands.

​

Behold Darkness

​

A slow, heavy input, overwhelming tempo of guitars and synths with a high doom charge, crushing atmosphere and melodically enriched with a little bit of bigger sounds and dark gutturals, slow chords and a little bit of plucked guitars, are the extremely slow riffs and very forceful that stay that way until the end.

My Recomendation

​

It is an album with a style that very few musicians manage to interpret, the album is purely Funeral Doom Metal, long, sustained notes, shallow chords and riffs unlike melodic Metal, these are long and challenging, because keeping such a tempo and Forceful is somewhat complex, but Eugen Kohl does it very well! It takes us into a sinister, desolate, abysmal, hellish atmosphere! And that is what is transmitted in this album with dense songs and very long in duration.

​

There are melodic influences that accompany at brief points and times with those slight pulsations in the chords of the guitars, the whole album is continuous, a devastating, depressing atmosphere, raw, malicious, sad and sinister phases! A combination of heavy and slow death / doom gutturals, constant gutturals with distorted sounds that give this wonderful bleak result.

The Voice

The voice within this genre is brutal, deep and aggressive gutturals, influences of Death Metal with the sounds of Doom, the guttural part will give even more malicious power to this super album!

Sinister Downfall es una banda alemana de Funeral Doom, fundada en 2016 por su único miembro Eugen Kohl. Eugen, a su vez, está activo en muchos géneros y direcciones de la escena del metal. Además de Sinister Downfall, sus bandas actuales incluyen: Crypt Witch, Donarhall, Necrochaos, Death Carrier, Nihilisticon, Hexengrab, así como Urschmerz y Dark Fields. Eugen es responsable de la composición de canciones completa y de todos los instrumentos, y también es responsable de mezclar y dominar todas sus obras él mismo.

En mayo de 2020, con la ayuda de dos importantes sellos de fatalidad Funere (Armenia) y Weird Truth Productions (Japón), se lanzó el segundo álbum Sinister Downfall, titulado A DARK SHINING LIGHT.

Cada una de las cinco pistas del álbum está llena de una oscuridad infinita que mantiene al oyente en su frío abrazo durante 50 minutos. Riffs pesados ​​y diversos, como una piedra encadenada a tus pies, te arrastran cada vez más a las profundidades del luto, el dolor y la desesperanza. Las guitarras solitarias en duelo completan con gracia el funeral con su canto, dando a la historia aún más sustancia.

A Dark Shining Light

​

Un acorde largo y lento, una pista con un ambiente totalmente desolador y terrorífico, sonidos ambientales de fondo cortantes como navajas, la voz es excelentemente siniestra! Se puede sentir y escuchar un poco de tempos un poco más melódicos, junto a sintetizadores, y unos acordes geniales, tremenda atmósfera oscura y guturales muy profundos, notas lentas y solitarias que dan una sensación de temor único!

Shape In The Mist

​

Una continuación con el mismo tempo, ejecución y arreglos melódicos, guturales profundos y tristes, una fase de acordes de guitarra pulsada, y esto suaviza la canción y la percepción de la misma hacia tonos más claros, posteriormente nos sorprende la fuerza de esas notas con un acorde más pesado y batería más densa.

Reaching For The Dead

​

Totalmente un ritmo y sonidos diferentes, deja a un lado la parte más oscura y terrorífica, nos acompañan con un acorde más agudo de guitarra desde el inicio pero posteriormente nos hunde a las sombras y desolación de este exquisito Doom Metal tan Fúnebre y siniestro.

​

Entramos en una fase intensa dentro del álbum a mi parecer, el título es muy duro y fuerte, acordes lentos, guitarras agudas y sostenidas, un poco de velocidad en la melodía, guturales fuertes y agresivos, unos pocos golpes tranquilos de las guitarras, la fatalidad se desarrolla y expanden.

Behold Darkness

​

Una entrada lenta y pesada, tempo apabullante de las guitarras y los sintetizadores con una gran carga de fatalidad, atmosfera demoledora y enriquecida melódicamente con un poco de mayores sonidos y guturales oscuros, acordes lentos y un poco de guitarras pulsadas, son los riffs extremadamente lentos y muy contundentes que se mantienen así hasta el final.

Mi Recomendación

​

Es un albúm con un estilo el cual muy pocos músicos logran interpretar, el albúm es puramente Funeral Doom Metal, notas largas, sostenidas, acordes poco pronunciados y riffs a diferencia del Metal melódico estos son largos y desafiantes, porque el mantener un tempo así y contundente es algo complejo, pero Eugen Kohl lo hace muy bien! Nos adentra a una atmosfera siniestra, desolada, abismal, infernal! Y eso es lo que se trasmite en este albúm con canciones densas y muy largas en duración.

​

Hay influencias melódicas que acompañan en puntos y tiempos breves con esas leves pulsaciones en los acordes de las guitarras, todo el albúm es continuo, una atmósfera demoledora depresiva fases crudas, maliciosas, tristes y siniestras! Una combinación por los guturales de death/doom pesados y lentos, guturales constantes con sonidos distorsionados que dan este maravilloso resultado desolador.

La Voz

​

La voz dentro de este género es brutal, guturales profundos y agresivos, influencias del Death Metal con los sonidos del Doom, la parte gutural le aún más poder malévolo a este súper albúm!
