Here I leave this new interview with our friend Laura Guldemond, she tells us about her style Experimental Electronic Metal, Pop / Heavy Metal, very complex! I would give them some details, but better than she did tell us!

¿Hi Laura! How are you? Thanks for this oportunity!

 

Hey! You’re welcome! All is well! A bit tired since I have to get up early again after a long summer break. :P

 

¿Who is Laura in your daily life?

 

At the moment I’m mostly a vocal student I guess. Normally I go to the Metal Factory the whole week. I’m getting up between 7 and 8 in the morning.  I’m home again between 17.00 and 19.00 since I travel 4 hours a day. So I try to do some homework and practice while I’m traveling. I always go by train. Then I do some sports sometimes and eat and go write or practice. In the weekends I’m writing with my band Generation Lost, going to friends or family or practice with The Epic Rock Choir, visit a concert or the best; do a gig.

 

¿Tell us who is Laura to day? 

 

Today I’m Laura… Uhm.  

 

¿How was your vocal training?

 

The last to years Marcela Bovio was my vocal coach. It was great to have her as a vocal coach because she could easily answer most questions I had and could help me improve my voice. Before those two years for examle I couldn’t sing with distortion and now I can really pull of the Pride parts as an undestudy in the Epic Rock Choir for the Theater Equation try out. It also was a great help that I could do vocal lessons together with my classmates at the Metal Factory. They really inspired me to do certain stuff with my voice and it’s very motivating to practice something together. I got a whole lot more freedom in what I want to do artistically now. My latest vocal coaching was by Devon Graves. He gave me some great tips on pronounciation and also English pronounciation in particular. That was a great help. Devon is helping all Epic Rock Choir members out that want some help at the moment.

 

¿What does mean ‘Generation Lost’ for you?

 

You mean the meaning of the bandname? It fitted the atmosphere I want to create. Imagine this world that needs technology this much it can’t go on without it anymore. But in essence we aren’t these technical creatures and need nature.. so this lost feeling you can get sometimes in a world full of distractions etcetera you can sometimes maybe feel lost. I mean even if the world we’re living in now isn’t that ruined that it couldn’t live anymore may humanity suddenly die out… you can pretend to be something or someone else and get lost in it. You can choose to do wathever you want these days too. Go whereever you want. Become wathever you want, but feel a bit detached from your roots. Or feel like you never had any… So you can explain it a bit in a sci fy way but also in a way of feeling lost because you don’t know for sure what your roots are.

 

 

¿Why choose this Musical Style?

 

I want to combine EDM and metal because in a lot of music these days EDM (Electronic Dance Music) is combined. I really loved that and thought it should be more in metal too, but in a newer sounding way than just industrial. And of course it is already done by Skrillex and Korn for example but I want more of it.

 

¿What is the true essence of Generation Lost with different Styles like Experimental Electronic, Pop/Heavy Metal?

 

I hope this explains it the best: Imagine symphonic metal, but with a rock voice and instead of the orchestrational parts use EDM sounds. Then lots of atmosphere and energy to top it of…

 

¿How was formed the band?

 

I placed some advertisements on facebook and printed some posters to pin on the wall in rehearsal rooms. People that were interested could send a video and tell something about themselves. I asked a few classmates from the Metal Factory too.

 

¿Do you have Some new proyect with other band?

 

Nope. But who knows I will have one in the near future since I will be writing a lot with the band I have to write with for my gradution project/band. But nothing’s certain here yet. I will be however writing one song together with amongst others Ivo van Dijk (Karmaflow ex xistus) for the Back to Roots rock fashion show from Ingeborgh Steenhorst in Oktober. Also I will continue to sing in the Epic Rock Choir and do some backing and studiovocals once in a while here and there.

 

¿Which are your inspirations in this Music? Do you have any Singer in special?

 

I get inspiration from a lot of bands/singers, but a few in particular are Sharon den Adel, Lizzy Hale, Lady Gaga, Sia, Dio and Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden for singing and stage performance. For Generation Lost it would also be Amaranthe, Celldweller, Pendulum, W&W, Mushroomhead, Destroid, FKA Twigs, etc. For the combination with the electronic stuff. Oh and Ariana Grandé. I saw her using Mimu gloves. Those are very cool… You can change lights or make sounds wiht gestures. Have to save up some money for them. J For more freaky ways to add to instruments you should see Pin Panelle for example.

 

 

¿What type of Music inside Metal you like more? And Why?

 

I like almost everything melodic and with a lot of clean vocals. What I like about metal is that it usually has more energy then a sweet soul love song if you know what i mean. Usually when there aren’t any clean vocals in it I’m bored listening to it fast, but there is some black metal I can enjoy though.

 

¿Within of Metal, which is the most important to you?

 

a álbum full of history, a album full of music, the voice, the Lyric or a combination of many musical styles?

 

It has to be a combination. There’s a lot of music I like, but the ones that have a certain atmoshper throughout the album and a nice cover and a nice voice and good songs, nice lyrics that fit the atmosphere of the album are the most memorable for me. For example Aina – Days of rising doom, Arjen Anthony Lucassen’s Star One, Eluveitie – Vên, W.A.S.P. – Dying for the world. I could name a few more.

 

¿That has surprised us Generation Lost very soon?

 

I can’t say anything about when what is going to happen yet. It’s to early in the process.

 

¿There will be some videoclip coming with your band?

 

Definitely!

 

¿Anything else you want to share with us my friend?

 

We are going to try to have a full set ready by february…. Probably we’ve got more exciting things to tell by then. But all speculation this haha.

Aquí les dejo esta nueva entrevista con nuestra amiga Laura Guldemond, ella nos cuenta acerca de su estilo Experimental Electronic Metal, Pop/Heavy Metal, muy complejo! yo les daría algunos detalles, pero mejor que ella misma nos cuente!

¿Hola Laura, como estas? Gracias por esta oportunidad.

 

Hola! Gracias a ti. Todo va bien. Un poco cansada desde que comencé a levantarme temprano otra vez. Después de un largo descanso en el verano, vuelvo a la rutina.

 

¿Cómo es Laura en su vida diaria?

 

Actualmente soy estudiante de música. Entre semana me la paso en la Fabrica de metal!

Me estoy despertando de 7 a 8 de la mañana, regreso a casa de 5 a 7 de la tarde, es un viaje de cuatro horas pero trato de hacer tarea y practicar mientras.

 

Siempre viajo en tren.  Igual me gusta hacer deporte, comer, escribir un poco y practicar mucho.

 

El fin de semana me la paso con mi banda Generation Lost, salgo con amigos y con mi familia, igual suelo practicar con el coro de rock épico.

 

Me gusta ir a conciertos pero prefiero ir me de gira!! Es lo mejor!!!

 

¿Quién es Laura actualmente?

 

Actualmente, ummm simplemente soy Laura.

 

¿Cómo fue tu entrenamiento vocal?

 

El último par de años, Marcela Bovio fue mi entrenadora. Fue increíble tenerla como entrenadora porque ella fácilmente pudo responder a la mayoría de mis preguntas.

Me ayudo a mejorar bastante mi voz. Recuerdo que antes de practicar con ella, no podía cantar con distorsión pero ahora puedo decir con mucho orgullo, que entre como suplente del coro épico de rock!

 

Lo que me ayudo también es el hecho de que pude tomar lecciones vocales con mis compañeros de la fabrica del metal! Ellos realmente me inspiraron a realizar ciertas cosas con mi voz y es bastante emocionante el poder practicar juntos. Ahora tengo más libertad artística.

 

Mi último profesor fue Devon Graves. Me dio muy buenos tips de pronunciación en ingles y eso fue de gran ayuda. Él es quien está ayudando a los miembros del coro de rock épico.

 

¿Qué significado tiene para ti Generation Lost?

 

Te refieres al nombre de la banda? Pues encajo perfecto con la atmosfera que quisimos crear.

Imagina este mundo que necesita de tanta tecnología, no se podría sobrevivir sin ella.

Pero si somos honestos, nosotros no somos seres tecnológicos, necesitamos de la naturaleza. En ocasiones tantas distracciones nos hacen sentir perdidos.

 

Quiero decir, imaginen que el mundo en el que vivimos llegue a un punto de ruina en el que no podamos habitarlo más, la humanidad podría desaparecer.

Puedes fingir ser algo o alguien que no eres y perderte en el proceso. En la actualidad puedes hacer lo que quieras. Ir a donde quieras, convertirte en lo que quieras pero al mismo tiempo te sientes desconectado de tus raíces.

Esta manera de describirlo es un poco de ciencia ficción pero al mismo tiempo describe, una sensación de sentirse perdido porque realmente no conoces cuáles son tus raíces.

 

¿Porque escogiste este género musical?

 

Quería combinar la música dance electrónica y el metal, por que actualmente hay muchas combinaciones de ese estilo.

 

Me encanto la idea y al principio pensé que estaría más orientado al metal, pero termino escuchándose un poco mas industrial.

Este tipo de mezclas ya fueron realizadas por Skrillex y Korn, pero me encantaría hacer un poco más.

 

¿Cuál es la verdadera esencia de Generation Lost?

 

Mezclando muchos estilos como electrónico experimental, pop y heavy metal.

Espero que esto lo explique mejor: Imaginen metal sinfónico pero con una voz rockera y en lugar de la parte orquestal usamos sonidos dance electrónicos.

Eso crea una atmosfera y una energía increíble!

 

¿Cómo se formó la banda?

Coloque ciertos anuncios en Facebook y en posters impresos que anduve colocando en los salones de ensayo.

 

La gente interesada podía mandar un video y hablar un poco de ellos mismos.

Incluso invite a mis compañeros de La fábrica del metal.

 

¿Tienes algún proyecto nuevo con alguna banda nueva?

 

No.  Pero quién sabe si estaré en algún proyecto cercano, porque empecé a escribir mucho para la banda y también para mi proyecto de graduación.

Nada es seguro aun. Pero lo que sí es seguro es que escribiré una canción junto a Ivo Van Dijk (ex miembro de xistus) para el festival de rock fashion ‘’regresando a nuestra raíces’’ en octubre.

También continuare participando en el coro de rock épico y hare vocales de apoyo. Continuare con mis estudios.

 

¿Cuáles son tus inspiraciones en esta música? Tienes cantantes favoritos?

 

Me inspiro en muchas bandas y cantantes, pero por mencionar algunos:

Sharon Den Adel, Lizzy Hale, Lady Gaga, Sia, Dio, Iron Maiden y Alice Cooper. De ellos me encanta su interpretación en el escenario y su voz.

A Generation Lost le gusta Amaranthe, Celldweller, Pendulum,W&W, Mushroomhead, Destroid, FKA y Twigs.

También me gusta Ariana Grande, una vez la vi usar unos guantes de mimo (mimu) y son geniales! Puedes cambiar las luces y los sonidos mediante tus movimientos. Tendre que ahorrar para comprarme unos!

Igual le recomiendo a Pin Panelle, si lo que quieren ver es una mezcla rara de instrumentos.

 

¿Qué tipo de música dentro del metal, te gusta más y por qué?

Me gusta más lo melódico y con una voz limpia. Pero lo que más me gusta del metal es que tiene más energía que una simple canción de amor, saben lo que quiero decir.

Usualmente si la canción no tiene una voz clara y limpia tiende a aburrirme, pero igual puedo disfrutar de ciertas canciones de black metal.

 

¿Qué es para ti más importante dentro del metal? Un álbum lleno de historia, lleno de música, la voz, las letras o la combinación de varios estilos??

 

Para mi tendría que ser una combinación. Me gustan muchos tipos de música pero los discos más memorables para mí son los que tienen una cierta atmosfera bien llevada durante todo el disco, una buena portada, una buena voz y por supuesto buenas canciones!

La letra debe encajar con la atmosfera que transmita el disco.

Por ejemplo Aina – Days of Rising Doom

Arjen, Anthony’s Lucassen’s star one, Eluveitie-Ven, W.A.S.P – Dying for the world.

Podría mencionar muchos más!

 

¿Habrá alguna sorpresa con Generation Lost pronto?

 

Aun no puedo decir nada al respecto. Es muy pronto aun.

 

¿Habrá nuevo video de la banda?

Definitivamente!!
