Dimman returns with a new EP titled ‘152‘ which is set to be released on October 18th 2019 by Inverse Records. The band’s modern melodeath consists of beautiful melodies accompanied with heavy compositions making them sound unique. The new release introduces the band’s new female vocalist Jenna Kohtala which also gives more variety on vocal arrangements.
The EP was produced by Santeri Peltomäki (Entropy Studio Finland).
“Capsized Reverie was composed right before entering the studio. The song stands out from the rest of the EP with its electronic elements and simpler song structure. The lyrics focus on human greediness and the harm it causes for our planet. How have you been?

Thank you for having us, we’re doing great!
Tell us the history of your band's formation?
Jaakko
Our story began in 2011 when me and Samppa started to play some notes together. Later on Elias decided to grab the bass and Mikael took the place as a rhythm guitarist. The band was ready after Valtteri joined in as a vocalist. With this line-up, the first single ‘Shattered’ and the following EP ‘Guide My Fury’ were released. We released two more singles before a new vocalist, Jenna, joined the band to give some more variation on vocal arrangements.
Which means the name of your band?
Jaakko
‘Dimman’ means fog/mist in Swedish. We come originally from Western Finland, where a big part of population speaks Swedish so it was quite natural to borrow the band’s name from our ‘neighbours’.
Tell us a little about your new EP, which is: “Melodies accompanied with heavy compositions making them sound unique”
Jaakko
Our music has always relied on strong melodies and heavy riffs but now we wanted to expand our soundscape even more with clean vocals and some electronic elements.
How was the production of this EP? the lyric who wrote it and based on what was the creation of each song of the single?
Jaakko
I composed all the songs except for the song ‘Entity’ which we made together with Mikael. Jenna helped me with lyrics for the song ‘Treason’ but otherwise the lyrics for the EP were made by me. Usually I just come up with some idea and start to write it down as musical notation. I always make each part ready with every instrument and then move onto next part. I might not write for few months but when the inspiration kick in, I’ll have a new composition and lyrics for it ready in just one day.
Will there be any new videos of this EP?
Jaakko
We will do at least a play-through video for one of the songs.

What does it mean to be with Dimman band? What are your musical influences?
It’s cool to play and gig with some friends and develop as a vocalist. For singing I don’t really have a particular influence that comes to mind, it’s a sum of trying to learn something from a lot of great vocalists over the years.
Do you like Melodic Death or Death Metal or is there any preference?
My music taste is pretty random but when it comes to metal, I like Deftones, Opeth and Katatonia to mention a few.
For you Jenna, make their way in this music genre has been difficult?
No difficulties so far, everyone has been positive and welcoming.
What are your favorite voices within this musical genre?
Maynard James Keenan, Chino Moreno, Nick Barker.

What proposal does Dimman band bring us with his Modern Melodic Death Metal?

We’ll always make the music we want to. It’s important to keep things fresh and let the music evolve.
It is in production or in the process the next full album of the band?
Jaakko
We love the concept of an EP with just 4-6 songs so we aren’t sure if we will release a full album next. Also, listeners seem to be too busy to listen a full album entirely nowadays anyways, haha.

El nuevo lanzamiento presenta a la nueva vocalista femenina de la banda, Jenna Kohtala, que también ofrece más variedad en los arreglos vocales.

Compuse todas las canciones excepto la canción "Entity" que hicimos junto con Mikael. Jenna me ayudó con la letra de la canción "Treason", pero de lo contrario la letra del EP fue hecha por mí. Por lo general, se me ocurre una idea y empiezo a escribirla como notación musical. Siempre preparo cada parte con cada instrumento y luego paso a la siguiente parte. Es posible que no escriba durante unos meses, pero cuando la inspiración comience, tendré una nueva composición y letras listas en solo un día.

Es genial tocar y tocar con algunos amigos y desarrollarse como vocalista. Para cantar, realmente no tengo una influencia particular que se me ocurra, es una suma de tratar de aprender algo de muchos vocalistas excelentes a lo largo de los años.
¿Te gusta Melodic Death o Death Metal o hay alguna preferencia?
Mi gusto musical es bastante aleatorio, pero cuando se trata de metal, me gusta Deftones, Opeth y Katatonia para mencionar algunos.

¿Está en producción o en proceso el próximo álbum completo de la banda?
Jaakko
Nos encanta el concepto de un EP con solo 4-6 canciones, por lo que no estamos seguros de sí lanzaremos un álbum completo a continuación. Además, los oyentes parecen estar demasiado ocupados para escuchar un álbum completo por completo hoy en día de todos modos, jaja.
