Lisa is the Leader Vocal of the Emetropia is a symphonic metal band from Linköping, Sweden, formed in 2017. While many bands in the genre choose to lean towards a gothic, dark theme, Emetropia instead focuses on delivering energetic and dynamic metal driven by big orchestras and choirs. Together with intricate and modern songwriting inspired by many power and progressive metal acts, they are sure to make anyone who loves bands like Epica, Therion, or Amorphis eager for more.
On November 17th 2021 the Swedish symphonic metal act Emetropia released their new single "Seasonal Warfare"(Re-Imagined). The song is the second single from their upcoming debut album 'Equinox' which will be released in early 2022.
Hi Lisa how are you? Thank you very much for having you here at Darkzen Dragón Metal Angels!
Lisa:
Hello! I’m very good thank you! It’s so much fun to be asked to do an interview!
Tell us a little about yourself Lisa! We want to get to know Lisa Wallenberg a Little!
Lisa:
Oh, that loathed question, what to answer? Well, I have a husband, a toddler and a creepy old store mannequin. My favourite genre of music besides metal is different types of electronic music - synthpop, aggrotech, EBM etc. I love reading but mostly listen to audiobooks nowadays, mostly horror and such. I have a pretty mean and dirty sense of humor and, according to my husband, kind of tactless sometimes.
What were your ways to get to Metal?
Lisa:
Well, it depends on how far you want me to go. I started listening to actual metal when I was around 15 years old; a friend played Nightwish (The song “Wishmaster”, I believe it was!). My way into music that wasn’t just mainstream pop goes a bit further back though; I used to listen to things like Hanson (Rock pop Indie from USA) and my gateway between that and metal was actually a band called Silverchair. Not metal whatsoever but compared to what I had listened to before that, Silverchair was very “hard” music!
Do you have folk musical influences also from your country?
Lisa:
I actually do not, haha!
Do you have musical influences outside of Metal?
Lisa:
I have loved musicals for most of my life (especially Phantom of the opera!), so I would count that as a big influence. The storytelling through music, the style of singing and expressing oneself etc. Also, one of my favourite bands, Placebo, played a big part in the years when I started getting interested in taking singing seriously. They gave me my very first “wow!”-experience when it comes to music. I discovered them when the video for “Pure morning” played at a local music channel and I just could not take my eyes off the video or forget that song.
Do you have hobbies? Besides being a singer, do you have any work outside of your band?
Lisa:
I am a total horror nerd! Books, games, movies, art, everything! I also love taking long walks, preferably on my own(I’m very much a loner!). Hehe, yes, being in Emetropia doesn’t pay too well so I do work right now. I will, however, start studying to become a software tester in january. I recently started taking a Python course and that made me discover that I really enjoy coding.

How is the situation until today with this pandemic in your country? This how it reverberated with your band and the metal scene
Lisa:
Not great. Restrictions lifted recently and of course, the disease started spreading again so now we’re back having restrictions. Good, according to me, it was way too early to lift them but people just cannot get into their head how serious it all is and that we can’t live like normal quite yet.
Obviously, no shows, neither as a performing band or as an audience. As for Emetropia, we haven’t rehearsed in ages and we have barely seen each other outside of zoom calls; a bummer but what can you do? But we made the best out of the situation and recorded our upcoming debut album. I truly think that we have done a great album with a beautiful story so at least something good has come out of it.
Your vocal training Lisa, how has it been? You have a great voice! On the singles that you guys have released you have a beautiful vocal range.
Lisa:
Thank you! I try not to just do the “pretty soprano voice”-thing but to play around with different techniques. I actually had a blast re-recording some songs for the album. After listening to some takes, Olle, Liam and I decided that certain songs needed a more aggressive feel to them. I had never really done that but I think I managed it quite well - I can’t wait for album number two (which yes, we have already started on!) where I will get to do more anger, hatred and such.
As for vocal training, I have taken singing lessons but that was ages ago; a lot of my “training” has been by trial and error and a few tips from Youtube videos on the subject.
Emetropia band, how was the band founded and what is the musical and lyrical concept that you use and show us? I can hear great musical influences like Progressive Metal, Epic Metal and of course Symphonic Metal.
Lisa:
Emetropia as we know it today was formed in 2017. I joined shortly after. We have very diverse tastes in metal: power, symphonic, black, progressive, new wave, melodic death, sleaze… We try to incorporate some of that into our music which I hope gives us a nice little twist compared to bands who play “pure” symphonic metal.
Lyrically, the Equinox story is all thanks to the former singer Elias who wrote the lyrics for “Lord of the Blizzards”. Upon hearing it I had to figure out a way to turn the few songs we had then into a story. I always want to make music into a story/concept album, I seriously cannot write random lyrics that have nothing to do with one another! Having some knowledge of pagan myths I fairly quickly came to think about the holly king and oak king. The others were happy with my ideas and so, the basis for Equinox was born.
Tell us a little about the singles that you have released! How are That Fateful Night and Seasonal Warfare? The musical style of both singles is what in your next album this 2022 will have?
Lisa:
“That Fateful Night” is when the main story begins. The little boy leaves his safe haven to seek out the ruling king and somehow manages to find him. “Seasonal Warfare” serves like a prologue, kind of summarizing what our story is going to be. I think that they both hint very well at what the whole album is going to sound like. None of them are like the other yet not so dissimilar from each other that it feels like the songs don’t belong together.
Did you write any part of these singles Lisa?
Lisa:
I wrote the lyrics and came up with some of the main song melodies. Sometimes Liam already has a melody he wants me to sing, sometimes I get the freedom to come up with my own. Sometimes I can’t come up with any and pester Liam for help, haha!
Will there be any other advance, video, or single? Some live with your fans on any social network?
Lisa:
Oh, there might be something more coming before the album release.
Anything else you would like to share with us?
Lisa:
I hope that everyone reading this will check out our music! Also, that we will get to do more live shows (a lot of them) very soon. We do have a release show planned in our hometown Linköping on February 25th together with the local power metal act Razor Attack. Hopefully we’ll get to see a lot of people there and if not, at least see and hear from the fans in any of our social media! Cthulhu fhtagn!

Lisa es la líder vocal de Emetropía es una banda de metal sinfónico de Linköping, Suecia, formada en 2017. Si bien muchas bandas del género eligen inclinarse hacia un tema gótico y oscuro, Emetropía se enfoca en entregar metal enérgico y dinámico impulsado por grandes orquestas y coros. Junto con una composición intrincada y moderna inspirada en muchos actos de metal progresivo y poderoso, seguramente hará que cualquiera que ame bandas como Epica, Therion o Amorphis esté ansioso por más.
El 17 de noviembre de 2021, la banda sueca de metal sinfónico Emetropía lanzó su nuevo sencillo "Seasonal Warfare" (Re-Imagined). La canción es el segundo sencillo de su próximo álbum debut 'Equinox', que se lanzará a principios de 2022.

Lisa:
¡Hola! ¡Estoy muy bien gracias! ¡Es muy divertido que te pidan una entrevista!
¡Cuéntanos un poco sobre ti Lisa! ¡Queremos conocer un poco a Lisa Wallenberg!
Lisa:
Oh, esa aborrecida pregunta, ¿Qué responder? Bueno, tengo un esposo, un niño pequeño y un maniquí de tienda viejo y espeluznante. Mi género musical favorito además del metal son los diferentes tipos de música electrónica: synthpop, aggrotech, EBM, etc. Me encanta leer, pero hoy en día escucho sobre todo audiolibros, sobre todo de terror y demás. Tengo un sentido del humor bastante mezquino y sucio y, según mi marido, a veces carezco de tacto.
¿Cuáles fueron tus caminos para llegar al Metal?
Lisa:
Bueno, depende de lo lejos que quieras que llegue. Empecé a escuchar metal real cuando tenía alrededor de 15 años; un amigo tocó Nightwish (la canción “Wishmaster”, ¡creo que era!). Sin embargo, mi camino hacia la música que no era solo pop comercial va un poco más atrás; Solía escuchar cosas como Hanson (Rock pop Indie de USA) y mi puerta de enlace entre eso y el metal era en realidad una banda llamada Silverchair. No es metal en absoluto, pero en comparación con lo que había escuchado antes, ¡Silverchair era música muy "dura"!
¿Tienes influencias musicales folk también de tu país?
Lisa:
En realidad no, ¡jaja!
¿Tienes influencias musicales fuera del Metal?
Lisa:
Me han encantado los musicales durante la mayor parte de mi vida (¡especialmente El Fantasma de la Ópera!), así que lo contaría como una gran influencia. La narración a través de la música, el estilo de cantar y expresarse, etc. Además, una de mis bandas favoritas, Placebo, jugó un papel importante en los años en que comencé a interesarme en tomarme el canto en serio. Me dieron mi primera experiencia "¡guau!" cuando se trata de música. Los descubrí cuando el video de “Pure morning” se escuchó en un canal de música local y simplemente no podía apartar los ojos del video ni olvidar esa canción.
¿Tienes pasatiempos? Aparte de ser cantante, ¿tienes algún trabajo fuera de tu banda?
Lisa:
¡Soy una nerd del horror total! Libros, juegos, películas, arte, ¡todo! También me encanta dar largos paseos, preferiblemente sola (¡soy muy solitaria!).
Jeje, sí, estar en Emetropía no paga muy bien, así que trabajo ahora mismo. Sin embargo, comenzaré a estudiar para convertirme en probador de software en enero. Recientemente comencé a tomar un curso de Python y eso me hizo descubrir que realmente disfruto programando.
Darkzen:
Buen programa, hay muchos de hecho, también me gusta eso ;)
¿Cómo está la situación hasta el día de hoy con esta pandemia en su país? Así como reverberó con tu banda y la escena del metal
Lisa:
No es bueno. Las restricciones se levantaron recientemente y, por supuesto, la enfermedad comenzó a propagarse nuevamente, por lo que ahora volvemos a tener restricciones. Bueno, según yo, era demasiado pronto para levantarlos, pero la gente simplemente no puede entender lo serio que es todo y que todavía no podemos vivir como de costumbre.
Evidentemente, no hay espectáculos, ni como banda ni como público. En cuanto a Emetropía, no hemos ensayado en mucho tiempo y apenas nos hemos visto fuera de las llamadas de zoom; un fastidio, pero ¿qué puedes hacer? Pero sacamos lo mejor de la situación y grabamos nuestro próximo álbum debut. Realmente creo que hemos hecho un gran álbum con una hermosa historia, así que al menos ha salido algo bueno.
Tu entrenamiento vocal Lisa, ¿Cómo ha sido? ¡tiene una gran voz! En los sencillos que has lanzado, tienes un rango vocal bonito.
Lisa:
¡Gracias! Intento no solo hacer lo de la "bonita voz de soprano", sino jugar con diferentes técnicas. De hecho, me divertí mucho regrabando algunas canciones para el álbum. Después de escuchar algunas tomas, Olle, Liam y yo decidimos que ciertas canciones necesitaban un toque más agresivo. Realmente nunca había hecho eso, pero creo que lo manejé bastante bien. No puedo esperar al álbum número dos (que sí, ¡ya hemos comenzado!) donde podré hacer más ira, odio y demás.
En cuanto al entrenamiento vocal, he tomado clases de canto, pero eso fue hace años; gran parte de mi "entrenamiento" ha sido por prueba y error y algunos consejos de videos de Youtube sobre el tema.
Emetropía banda, ¿Cómo se fundó la banda y cuál es el concepto musical y lírico que utilizas y nos muestras? Puedo escuchar grandes influencias musicales como Metal Progresivo, Metal Épico y por supuesto Metal Sinfónico.
Lisa:
Emetropía, como la conocemos hoy, se formó en 2017. Me uní poco después. Tenemos gustos muy diversos en metal: power, sinfónico, negro, progresivo, new wave, death melódico, sordidez… Tratamos de incorporar algo de eso en nuestra música, lo que espero nos dé un pequeño giro en comparación con las bandas que tocan “puro”. “metal sinfónico.
Líricamente, la historia de Equinox es todo gracias al ex cantante Elias, quien escribió la letra de "Lord of the Blizzards". Al escucharlo, tuve que encontrar una manera de convertir las pocas canciones que teníamos en una historia. Siempre quiero convertir la música en un álbum de historia/concepto, ¡en serio no puedo escribir letras al azar que no tengan nada que ver entre sí! Teniendo algún conocimiento de los mitos paganos, rápidamente llegué a pensar en el rey del acebo y el rey del roble. Los demás estaban contentos con mis ideas y así nació la base de Equinox.
¡Cuéntanos un poco sobre los sencillos que has lanzado! ¿Cómo son That Fateful Night y Seasonal Warfare? El estilo musical de ambos sencillos es lo que tendrá en su próximo disco este 2022?
Lisa:
“That Fateful Night” es cuando comienza la historia principal. El niño deja su refugio seguro para buscar al rey gobernante y de alguna manera logra encontrarlo. "Seasonal Warfare" sirve como un prólogo, como un resumen de lo que será nuestra historia. Creo que ambos insinúan muy bien cómo va a sonar todo el álbum. Ninguno de ellos es como el otro, pero no tan diferentes entre sí como para sentir que las canciones no pertenecen juntas.
¿Escribiste alguna parte de estos singles Lisa?
Lisa:
Escribí la letra y se me ocurrieron algunas de las principales melodías de las canciones. A veces, Liam ya tiene una melodía que quiere que cante, a veces tengo la libertad de crear la mía propia. A veces no se me ocurre ninguna y pido ayuda a Liam, ¡jaja!
¿Habrá algún otro adelanto, video, o single? ¿Algún en vivo con sus fans en alguna red social?
Lisa:
Oh, podría haber algo más antes del lanzamiento del álbum.
¿Algo más que quieras compartir con nosotros?
Lisa:
¡Espero que todos los que lean esto escuchen nuestra música! También, que vamos a hacer más shows en vivo (muchos de ellos) muy pronto. Tenemos planeado un show de lanzamiento en nuestra ciudad natal Linköping el 25 de febrero junto con el grupo local de power metal Razor Attack. ¡Ojalá podamos ver a mucha gente allí y, si no, al menos ver y escuchar a los fanáticos en cualquiera de nuestras redes sociales!
