Project Renegade is a four-member metal band from Athens, Greece, founded by Marianna (vocals) and Ody (drums) and joined after by Nick K. (guitars) and Jay (bass). Project Renegade's sound derives from an alternative, heavy and groovy background blended with electronic and ambient elements. After releasing their debut EP "Cerebra" to high international critical acclaim, the band is set to release its first full-length album "Order of the Minus". The band is performing live in Greece and Europe, with participations in renowned festivals like Danube Rock Festival (RO), Over the Wall Festival (GR), Iron Queens Festival (RO), Voices of the Succubi 2018 having also made a debut performance at Le Cercle Club (BE). On April 2019, (MT) and the FEMME-Female Metal Event 2018 (NL), Ladies of Metal Festival (GR) they shared the stage of the famous Greek indoor venue “Piraeus Academy 117” with Bullet For My Valentine as special guest and participated afterwards at Milady Metal Festival (IT) with Mayan and Rock'n'Iasi (RO) with Harakiri for the Sky. On September 20th, 2020 Project Renegade played as special guest with Evanescence at Kiev, Ukraine

Marianna:
Thank you for having me! It is an honor to be featured in Darkzen!

Also an honor for me!
How have you been in all these months?
Marianna:
Very busy and running around like crazy! Although many people took some time off during the quarantine periods, I was swamped with writing the new record, recording it, mixing it, shooting videos and everything in between!
What is the story behind Marianna? Your musical career
Marianna:
Well I think it is a pretty standard one in terms of how I started playing music. I was 5 or 6 years old when my mother took me to my first piano lesson and from then on I always remember myself being involved with music in one way or the other. I studied vocals, composition, arrangement and I even took some guitar lessons back in the day. It was inevitable I think that I started being in bands when I was a teenager and after a while I met Ody and formed what is now Project Renegade!
What are your favorite musical influences and vocalists?
Marianna:
I have a lot of musical influences. From metal and rock, to rnb and soul, to classical and atonal music. There is nothing I will say no to if it is good and honest in terms of music and art in general. As for metal/rock vocalists, my top 5 let’s say would be Amy Lee, Jonathan Davis, Maria Brink, Devin Townsend and Hayley Williams.
You have hobbies? Which are?
Marianna:
Apart from music I like traveling, reading sci-fi novels, excercising and going for walks with my dog. Lately I have also found a new love for gardening and taking care of plants in my home.
Do you have another career or work alternative to your musical band?
Marianna:
Yes I am also a voice teacher. I am very lucky that both my jobs have to do with music!
What has Marianna done in music up to now with your band?
Marianna:
We have released one EP “Cerebra” and one LP “Order of the Minus” which we have played in front of crowds in numerous European countries and supported bands like Evanescence and Bullet For My Valentine.
What is the musical style of Project Renegade band?
Marianna:
We are a mixture of groovy riffs, melodic vocals, big orchestrations and a lot of attitude! As Ody our drummer likes to say: “We play fuck-you metal”!
Any project, video or single that is being prepared soon?
Marianna:
We have shooted 2 videos and prepared some singles to line up before the full release of our second album. We are just waiting the right timing to release them!
All the videos released months ago on their album "Order of the Minus" are great! Tell us about the production! And if it is possible what would be the new proposal or new album? Something heavier? Something more melodic?
Marianna:
The videos for “Liber8” and “The New Joker” were ideas that Ody had and we worked really hard to pull them off. Just imagine that for the “Liber8” video we built a huge cage in order to shoot the band performance. It was a lot of work but we were really happy with the outcome in both videos. Still people are asking how was the shooting of the rope scene in “The New Joker”!
As for what’s coming next, I think it will be a bit surprising because I think that every song in the next album has its own sound and its own identity. Definitely on the heavier side!
Do you have any dates for a live performance?
Marianna:
At last, I can answer yes to this question! We have a show lined up for November in Athens and a summer fest with Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil in Bulgaria. But there are a lot of stuff yet to be announced!
Anything else that you would like to share with us?
Marianna:
Be on the lookout cause you have seen nothing yet from Project Renegade! Soon new music will be out there and we cannot wait to share it with you!

El sonido de Project Renegade proviene de un fondo alternativo, pesado y groovy mezclado con elementos electrónicos y ambientales. ¿Cómo has estado en todos estos meses?
Marianna:
¡Muy ocupada y corriendo como loca! Aunque muchas personas se tomaron un tiempo libre durante los períodos de cuarentena, yo estaba abrumada por escribir el nuevo disco, grabarlo, mezclarlo, grabar videos y todo lo demás.
¿Cuál es la historia detrás de Marianna? Tu carrera musical
Marianna:
Bueno, creo que es bastante estándar en términos de cómo comencé a tocar música. Tenía 5 o 6 años cuando mi madre me llevó a mi primera lección de piano y desde entonces siempre recuerdo que me involucré con la música de una forma u otra. Estudié voz, composición, arreglos e incluso tomé algunas lecciones de guitarra en su día. Fue inevitable, creo que comencé a estar en bandas cuando era un adolescente y después de un tiempo conocí a Ody y formé lo que ahora es Project Renegade.
¿Cuáles son tus influencias musicales y vocalistas favoritos?
Marianna:
Tengo muchas influencias musicales. Desde el metal y el rock, pasando por el rnb y el soul, pasando por la música clásica y atonal. No hay nada a lo que le diga que no si es bueno y honesto en términos de música y arte en general. En cuanto a los vocalistas de metal / rock, mis cinco mejores, digamos, serían Amy Lee, Jonathan Davis, Maria Brink, Devin Townsend y Hayley Williams.
¿Tienes pasatiempos? ¿Cuáles son?
Marianna:
Aparte de la música me gusta viajar, leer novelas de ciencia ficción, hacer ejercicio y salir a pasear con mi perro. Últimamente también he encontrado un nuevo amor por la jardinería y el cuidado de las plantas en mi hogar.
¿Tienes otra carrera o trabajo alternativo a tu banda musical?
Marianna:
Sí, también soy profesora de canto. ¡Tengo mucha suerte de que mis dos trabajos tengan que ver con la música!
¿Qué ha hecho Marianna en la música hasta ahora con su banda?
Marianna:
Hemos lanzado un EP “Cerebra” y un LP “Order of the Minus” que hemos tocado frente a multitudes en numerosos países europeos y apoyado a bandas como Evanescence y Bullet For My Valentine.
¿Cuál es el estilo musical de la banda Project Renegade?
Marianna:
¡Somos una mezcla de riffs maravillosos, voces melódicas, grandes orquestaciones y mucha actitud! Como le gusta decir a nuestro baterista Ody: “¡Tocamos fuck-you metal”!
¿Algún proyecto, video o single que se esté preparando próximamente?
Marianna:
Hemos filmado 2 videos y preparado algunos sencillos para alinearlos antes del lanzamiento completo de nuestro segundo álbum. ¡Estamos esperando el momento adecuado para lanzarlos!
¡Todos los videos lanzados hace meses en su álbum "Order of the Minus" son geniales! ¡Cuéntanos sobre la producción! Y si es posible, ¿cuál sería la nueva propuesta o nuevo álbum? ¿Algo más pesado? ¿Algo más melódico?
Marianna:
Los videos de “Liber8” y “The New Joker” eran ideas que tenía Ody y trabajamos muy duro para llevarlas a cabo. Imagínense que para el video de “Liber8” construimos una jaula enorme para filmar la actuación de la banda. Fue mucho trabajo, pero estábamos muy contentos con el resultado de ambos videos. ¡Todavía la gente pregunta cómo fue el rodaje de la escena de la cuerda en “The New Joker”!
En cuanto a lo que viene a continuación, creo que será un poco sorprendente porque creo que cada canción del próximo álbum tiene su propio sonido y su propia identidad. ¡Definitivamente en el lado más pesado!
¿Tienes fechas para una presentación en vivo?
Marianna:
¡Por fin puedo responder afirmativamente a esta pregunta! Tenemos un espectáculo programado para noviembre en Atenas y un festival de verano con Within Temptation y Lacuna Coil en Bulgaria. ¡Pero aún quedan muchas cosas por anunciar!
