Greetings friends! This month i leave this interview with our friends from the South of Mexico, The KB band! From Carmen City, Campeche, which with its Symphonic Metal will love us!

 

The "KB" project stems from the concern of Francisco Escobar to create a concept inspired of the classical music and metal genre. Inspired by bands like Epica, Therion and Dimmu Borgir, in 2015 he decided to undertake the search for the necessary elements to give life to the project, joining the Soprano Lorna Ferrat, the guitarist Julio Marin, collaborating with drummer César Góngora and bassist Teddy Zapata to work the first study material.

 

Tell us a Little about you. Who is Lorna Ferrat?

 

I’m a Singer of 25 years old and i was born at Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche.

I’m really passionate of what i do, music is of vital importance for me and to be able of doing it it's really satisfactory.

 

At first i'm a little bit shy but if you won my confidence, you'll see that i'm eloquent, funny and very friendly. Some of my flaws are that i'm very forgetful, proud and it's hard for me to trust others.

 

What are your hobbies?

 

I like to read and write, go to the movies, running, going out with friends and enjoy those little moments of the life.

 

How was your training in the metal?

 

Well, it all started when i was on high school.

There was a good friend of mine who loves metal music and all its genres, one day he told me that i should listen a band called 'Nightwish' and i was fascinated with the genre.

 

I started to listen more and more bands, not only of symphonic metal but also death metal, folk metal, viking metal, industrial metal and metalcore.

 

Why did you choose this genre?

 

It's a genre i like very much, i like opera, classical music and metal and i think this genre brings together all what i like. So it becomes in my favourite genre.

 

Now that i have the opportunity of being part of a symphonic metal band i'm more than happy!.

 

I think everyone has a favourite genre but the most important is enjoy what you do.

 

Is that your real name?

 

Yes indeed. My full name is Lorna Lissette Perez Ferrat but almost everyone knows me for my second surname.

 

They call me Lorna Ferrat and i like!

 

What are your musical and vocal influences?

 

One of my biggest influences is Tarja Turunen and i think also it is of people who has a band in this genre.

 

Within Opera and classical music i like Maria Callas, Lucia Popp, Sumi Jo and Diana Damrau. They are all my vocal influences.

 

Speaking of musical inspiration, i would mention bands like Therion, Epica and Sirenia.

 

What kind of voice do you have?

 

It's really weird but when i started singing my teacher told me that i was a Mezzo Soprano but a few months later i went to Xalapa, Veracruz and i started studying music.

 

My teacher of private lessons told me that i was a Soprano, apparently my vocal range had expanded and i was able to reach higher notes.

 

How did you train vocally?

 

I have learned several techniques of vocalisation at my singing lessons.

It has been a long time since my last singing lesson but now i hope to return soon.

Meanwhile i practice daily with the techniques i've learned like breathing.

 

Tell me, how did the band KB started?

 

The band started in year 2010 within the industrial metal. The first line up was Francisco Escobar (first guitar and vocals), Teddy Zapata (Bass), Yamir Camara (guitar) and Daniel Casanova (Drums). In that time they released 3 albums, but Daniel left the band for study reasons and then Alberto joined them but some time later he also left the band.

 

After all this changes, Cesar Gongora joined to the band. He's the current drummer.

At the end of 2014 they invited me to participate in a project called ''KB-acoustic sessions'' and it was about adapting songs of the band in acoustic versions.

 

From that moment I formally joined the band and it was a twist in the genre.

 

We started with symphonic metal, a genre that Francisco (founder of the band) had wanted to try and he knew it was my favourite. Besides, i have the voice.

 

What are the musical influences of the band?

 

Our main influences are Epica, Therion, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy and many more.

I had to mention this bands because they are of vital importance for us.

 

We like to listen more bands of symphonic metal, but also listen other genres, national and international. Undoubtedly those four bands have marked our way of making music.

 

Does the band have a single? or are you planning to recording?

 

Yes indeed. We have 3 songs of our authoring and they are of symphonic metal and its names are: ''Xtabay'', this song it's about a legend from the state of Merida, ''Stella Noctem'' and ''Simple Mortal''. We are currently recording our fourth song and we're planning a whole album with 10 songs. We have already the models and ideas of what we want to do, we just need to land and polish them.

 

This álbum have no name yet but we hope to release it this August. Is there an event in which the band had participated? Within the Mexican Republic.

 

We haven't participated yet in an important event at national level. But we have been in the city of Villahermosa twice, our first time was in an event called ''Rock Out Fest'' and the second time, we were the opening act for the band Fortaleza in Retro'sHouse. Beyond that we only have participated in small events but we hope to reach national events.

 

What do you want to transmit with your music, your voice and your musical style?

 

I need to talk about this as a ensemble, i mean, we want to people enjoy what we do and identify with us. We want each song be a connection with the people who are listening.

 

This álbum it's focused on social problems and emotions, problems that people has to deal with. We want people understand what we we express with the music, and they can make a close relation at personal level with what we do. We want to convey the force and passion that we feel in each song we make.

 

What do you think of talented people who doesn't dare to say to the world ''Hey, i'm here!''? What are your advices for them?

 

I only have to say this: If you have the talent, you have to use it!

 

You should take advantage of it.

 

We are all good at something and if you know what is your strength, you must to use it.

If you do more of what makes you happy, you will be happier.

 

Sometimes we don't dare for fear of failure, personally i think this it has been my biggest fear but with the time i have learned that it's better to fall that never try it.

 

Once you fall down, you'll learn and depends on you to take this teaching to improve and keep going.

 

Will there be some project or tour for this 2016?

 

In this moment i think no.

We'll be working on the álbum but if there is a chance, we'll take it immediately.

 

Is there anything have not asked you before and want to tell us?

 

Well, i want to say we are a band of symphonic metal 100% Mexican. I think in México there are very good bands, with good quality. You just have to know how to listen.

Saludos amigos! Este inicio de mes les dejo esta entrevista con nuestros amigos de la banda KB del sur de la República Mexicana! Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, el cual con su Metal Sinfonico nos encantara!

 

El proyecto "KB" nace de la inquietud de Francisco Escobar por crear un concepto inspirado en la música clásica y el género del metal. Inspirado en bandas como Épica, Therion y Dimmu Borgir, en el año 2015 se decide a emprender la búsqueda de los elementos necesarios para darle vida al proyecto, uniéndose así la soprano Lorna Ferrat, el guitarrista Julio Marin, colaborando con el baterista César Góngora y el bajista Teddy Zapata para trabajar el primer material de estudio.

 

Cuéntanos un poco de ti ¿Quién es Lorna Ferrat?

Soy una cantante de 25 años nacida en Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche. Siento una gran pasión por lo que hago, para mí la música es vital en mi vida, y poder dedicarme a ella me da una gran satisfacción. Soy tímida al principio pero luego que se ganas mi confianza soy muy elocuente, divertida, amigable. Dentro de mis defectos me considero algo despistada, orgullosa y me cuesta confiar en los demás.

 

Que hobbies tienes?

Me gusta leer, escribir, ir al cine, correr, salir con mis amigos, y disfrutar de esos pequeños momentos que da la vida.

 

Como te formaste dentro del Metal?

Bueno todo comenzó cuando entre a la prepa, había un chico que era muy amigo mío el cual le gustaba mucho el metal, de diferentes géneros, hasta que un día me dijo que escuchará una banda llamada “Nightwish” y de ahí quede fascinada con ese género, y empecé a descubrir más y más bandas, no solo me gusta el metal sinfónico, me encanta también el death metal, folk metal, viking metal, metal industrial, metalcore.

 

Porque este género en especial?

En particular es un género que me gusta mucho, ya que a mí me encanta la ópera, la música clásica pero también el metal, por lo que este género une lo que más me gusta y así fue como se convirtió en mi favorito. Ahora que formo parte de una banda de Metal Sinfónico, estoy más que feliz. Creo que cada quien tiene un género predilecto, lo importante es disfrutarlo y disfrutar lo que haces.

 

Ese es tu nombre real?

Si, en realidad mi nombre completo es Lorna Lissette Pérez Ferrat, pero todos me conocen más por mi segundo apellido, por eso me llaman Lorna Ferrat, lo cual me agrada.

 

 

Que influencias tienes vocal y musicalmente?

Vocalmente la cantante que me influyó mucho y que creo que también ha sido inspiración para muchas que están en una banda de este género, fue Tarja, y anteriormente dentro de la ópera y la música clásica ya escuchaba sopranos como María Callas, Lucia Popp, Sumi Jo y Diana Damrau. Ellas forman parte de mi influencia vocal. Musicalmente puedo hablar de bandas como Therion, Epica, Sirenia, etc.

 

Qué tipo de voz tienes?

Bueno es algo extraño, ya que cuando comencé a cantar mi maestra de canto me dijo que era Mezzo soprano, después de una meses me fui a estudiar música en Xalapa, Veracruz, y la maestra quien me daba clases particulares me dijo que era soprano, al parecer mi rango vocal se había ampliado y ya era capaz de alcanzar notas más altas.

 

Como te entrenas vocalmente?

Bueno pues existen diferentes técnicas de vocalización que aprendí en mis clases de canto, ya tiene un tiempo que no he tomado clases pero estoy a punto de volver, mientras tanto práctico las técnicas que aprendí, técnicas de respiración, afinación, etc.

 

Como fue el inicio de la banda KB?

Bueno, pues ellos iniciaron en el año 2010 como una banda de “Metal Industrial”. La alineación inicial era Francisco Escobar (Guitarra líder y Voz), Teddy Zapata (Bajo), Yamir Cámara (Guitarra) y Daniel Casanova (Batería). Durante ese tiempo lanzaron 3 discos. Después, por motivos de estudio, Daniel abandono la banda y entro Alberto, quien estuvo también por un tiempo, para luego abandonar la banda y entonces, se integró César Góngora (Baterista actual). A finales del 2014 me invitan para participar en un proyecto llamado “KB – Sesiones Acústicas”, el cual se trató de adaptar canciones propias de la banda a versiones acústicas.  A partir de ese momento, me integro formalmente a la banda, y de esta forma, tomamos un giro en el género musical que tenían, tomando así, el género Metal Sinfónico, genero el cual Francisco quien es el fundador de la banda, estaba interesado en hacer desde hace mucho, y bueno él sabía que ese es mi genero favorito y que tenía la voz para llevarlo a cabo.

 

 

Que influencias musicales tienes?

Tenemos influencias principalmente de Épica, Therion, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, entre otros. Creo que mencionar a estas bandas como nuestras principales influencias es vital para nosotros. Escuchamos más bandas de metal sinfónico, y de otros géneros, extranjeras y nacionales, pero sin duda alguna, esas cuatro son las que más marcan nuestra manera de hacer música.

 

Tienen algún sencillo o grabaran próximamente?

Si, de hecho, hasta el momento tenemos 3 canciones de nuestra autoría, ya entrando de lleno al metal sinfónico. Las cuales se titulan Xtabay, la cual, habla de una leyenda del estado de Merída. Stella Noctem y Simple Mortal. Actualmente nos encontramos en las grabaciones de la que será nuestra cuarta canción. Tenemos planeado un disco con 10 canciones por el momento. Ya están las maquetas y las ideas de lo que queremos hacer, solo falta aterrizarlas y pulirlas. Este disco aun no lo titulamos, pero tenemos planeado lanzarlo en Agosto de este año.

 

Algún evento especial en el que hayas estado dentro de la república?

Aún no hemos estado en algún evento de suma importancia a nivel nacional, pero nos hemos presentado en la ciudad de Villahermosa en dos ocasiones, la primera en el evento llamado “Rock out fest” y la segunda fue cuando le abrimos a la banda Fortaleza, quien se presentó en el Retro’s House. De ahí en fuera hemos tocado en pequeños eventos a nivel local. Estamos ansiosos de poder participar en un evento a nivel nacional.

 

Que nos quieres transmitir con tu música, con tu voz, con el estilo musical, en México y al mundo?

Hay que hablar de esto como un conjunto, es decir, con lo que hacemos queremos que la gente lo disfrute, pero más allá de eso, que se identifiquen, que cada canción sea una conexión con las personas que la escuchan. Por ejemplo, este disco está enfocado a los problemas sociales y emocionales de las personas, problemas con el que la gente en algún punto de su vida tiene que lidiar o que incluso lidian con ellos en el día a día. Entonces, lo que buscamos con nuestra música es que quienes la escuchen, puedan entender lo que tratamos de expresar, puedan establecer una relación a un nivel personal con lo que hacemos. Queremos transmitir fuerza, y la pasión que sentimos en cada canción que hacemos.

 

Qué opinas de la gente que tiene talento y no se atreve a decirle al mundo “hey aquí estoy”?... Que recomendación tienes para ellas.

Solo puedo decir que, si tienes el talento, aprovéchalo! Saca el mayor provecho que puedas de él. Todos somos buenos para algo y si tú ya sabes cuál es tu fuerte, ocúpate en ello. Haz más de lo que te hace feliz, y en efecto, serás feliz.  Muchas veces no nos atrevemos por miedo al fracaso, personalmente creo que ese ha sido mi mayor miedo, pero con el tiempo aprendí que es mejor caer a nunca intentarlo, porque una vez que caes, aprendes, te deja una enseñanza que de ti va depender tomarla para poder mejorar y seguir adelante.

 

Hay proyectos/tours en puerta este 2016?, cómo cuáles?

Por el momento no, vamos a estar centrados trabajando en el disco, sin embargo, si se presenta alguna oportunidad, con gusto la tomaremos.

 

Algo que no te hayan preguntado antes y quieras decirnos?

Pues, nada más comentar que somos una banda de metal sinfónico 100% mexicana. Creo que en México hay buenas bandas, buena calidad, solo tienen que saber escuchar.
