Jelena started singing and playing piano at the age of 4. Her father – professional musician, music teacher, and composer – had always encouraged her to explore and develop her musical personality. Until the age of 12, she sang in a children’s choir conducted by her father.
Her entire music education has been based on classical music, but she was always curious and open to other music genres. Kamelot, Rhapsody, Dream Theater, Symhony X, and Nightwish were the first bands who got her completely hooked to melodic kinds of metal, and during her years in high music school and Music University, she started composing her first songs and piano pieces. From 2001 until 2004 she had a progressive metal band Inumbro in Belgrade, Serbia, but they split due to personal reasons before releasing an official EP or an album. During her studies, she sang in a professional female choir “Collegium Musicum”. After getting her master's degree in piano performance, Jelena got even more inspired to explore other musical possibilities and genres, so she spent some years studying medieval, renaissance, and baroque music, and taking lessons of harpsichord and early singing. She attended several masterclasses focused on early music with prominent international vocal and harpsichord coaches and had performed in numerous concerts with various early music ensembles in Serbia. While teaching piano in high music school after her studies, she started Ph.D. studies of chamber music at Music University, but she stopped them after a year and moved to Tunisia in 2011. There she started Persona project with Melik Melek Khelifa. She now lives in Hanover, Germany.

What has our friend Jelena Dobric done in this time and in this still Covid19 pandemic?
Jelena:
I have been mostly busy with personal stuff, setting up in our new home in Germany, dealing with paperwork, settling properly in a new country, and figuring out best ways to approach the whole Corona pandemics situation from both professional and personal perspective.
Have your musical tastes changed during this time?
Jelena:
Hmmm now that you mentioned it, I'm getting more into jazz, and even discovering some pop/soul stuff, which is quite unusual for me (laugh). Just expanding horizons, my Persona & Helenium sides are still intact ;).
Darkzen:
Very Diverse!
Tell us about your project Helenium, The Elements EP is very good, what are you working on now with this project?
Jelena:
Thank you so much, I'm really glad you liked "The Elements"! Helenium has been on pause since the EP because I just had too much to do in other areas of my life. But I'm always writing some stuff for it, and it will definitely continue at some point in the (near) future. Maybe even become a band-like project, we'll see :).
Now happening with your band Persona, Why have you stopped?
Jelena:
Persona is still alive and active! :D Since we relocated to Europe (Germany/France), and changed both the bassist and the drummer, plus the pandemics - it took us some time until we reached the point of stability and managed to organize our goals for the future. But now we're definitely back, I can promise you that :).
Darkzen:
Perfect!!
Will you be working on a new album soon? Or some single that are working?
Jelena:
We are working on a new album, a couple of songs are already finished, and we recently had a video shoot for our first single. As for Helenium, just a ton of draft music happening at the moment but as soon as I get some time, it will start taking shape and becoming an EP or maybe even an album ;).
Darkzen:
Excellent news Jelena!
Have you thought of doing some live on a Social Network? Do you think it is good to do it?
Jelena:
Live streaming concerts in social media seem to be working well for most bands, so we're definitely thinking to try it out.
Jelena Dobric, when will we have her live on a Social Network?
Jelena:
My personal live in social networks - yeah, definitely something I should also consider doing, have been thinking about it for a while but since I'm not a "social media person" by nature, it just takes me a bit of mental preparation to plan it and execute it. But it will happen :).
What progress or news do Jelena and Persona band have for us? for fans!
Jelena:
We are actively working on a new album - expect something a bit different, more modern and more exciting than ever before! :) We're also planning to launch a crowdfunding campaign to help us finance it, together with the music video for our first single, in about a month (at the end of October/beginning of November).

Jelena comenzó a cantar y tocar el piano a la edad de 4 años. Su padre, músico profesional, profesor de música y compositor, siempre la había animado a explorar y desarrollar su personalidad musical. Hasta los 12 años, cantó en un coro de niños dirigido por su padre.
Toda su educación musical se ha basado en la música clásica, pero siempre fue curiosa y abierta a otros géneros musicales. Kamelot, Rhapsody, Dream Theater, Symhony X y Nightwish fueron las primeras bandas que la engancharon por completo a los tipos de metal melódico, y durante sus años en la escuela secundaria y la Universidad de Música, comenzó a componer sus primeras canciones y piezas para piano. Desde 2001 hasta 2004 tuvo una banda de metal progresivo Inumbro en Belgrado, Serbia, pero se separaron por razones personales antes de lanzar un EP oficial o un álbum. Durante sus estudios, cantó en un coro femenino profesional “Collegium Musicum”. Después de obtener su maestría en interpretación de piano, Jelena se inspiró aún más para explorar otras posibilidades y géneros musicales, por lo que pasó algunos años estudiando música medieval, renacentista y barroca, y tomando lecciones de clavecín y canto antiguo. Asistió a varias clases magistrales centradas en la música antigua con destacados entrenadores internacionales de voz y clavecín y había actuado en numerosos conciertos con varios conjuntos de música antigua en Serbia. Mientras enseñaba piano en la escuela secundaria después de sus estudios, comenzó un doctorado. estudios de música de cámara en la Universidad de Música, pero los detuvo después de un año y se mudó a Túnez en 2011. ¿Qué ha hecho nuestra amiga Jelena Dobric en este tiempo y en esta pandemia de Covid19?
Jelena:
He estado mayormente ocupada con cosas personales, instalándome en nuestra nueva casa en Alemania, lidiando con el papeleo, instalándome adecuadamente en un nuevo país y descubriendo las mejores formas de abordar toda la situación de las pandemias de Corona desde una perspectiva tanto profesional como personal.
¿Han cambiado tus gustos musicales durante este tiempo?
Jelena:
Hmmm, ahora que lo mencionaste, me estoy metiendo más en el jazz, e incluso descubriendo algunas cosas de pop / soul, lo cual es bastante inusual para mí (risas). Solo expandiendo horizontes, mis lados Persona y Helenium todavía están intactos;).

Muy Diverso!
Cuéntanos sobre tu proyecto Helenium, The Elements EP es muy bueno, ¿En qué estás trabajando ahora con este proyecto?
Jelena:
Muchas gracias, estoy muy contenta de que les haya gustado "The Elements". Helenium ha estado en pausa desde el EP porque tenía demasiado que hacer en otras áreas de mi vida. Pero siempre estoy escribiendo algunas cosas para él, y definitivamente continuará en algún momento en el futuro (cercano). Tal vez incluso se convierta en un proyecto de banda, ya veremos :).
Ahora que pasa con tu banda Persona, ¿por qué te detuviste?
Jelena:
¡Persona sigue viva y activa! : D Desde que nos mudamos a Europa (Alemania / Francia), y cambiamos tanto al bajista como al baterista, además de las pandemias, nos tomó algo de tiempo hasta que alcanzamos el punto de estabilidad y logramos organizar nuestros objetivos para el futuro. Pero ahora definitivamente estamos de regreso, puedo prometerte eso :).

¿Estarás trabajando en un nuevo álbum pronto? ¿O algún single que estén trabajando?
Jelena:
Estamos trabajando en un nuevo álbum, un par de canciones ya están terminadas y recientemente hicimos un video para nuestro primer single. En cuanto a Helenium, solo hay un montón de borradores de música en este momento, pero tan pronto como tenga algo de tiempo, comenzará a tomar forma y a convertirse en un EP o tal vez incluso en un álbum;).

La transmisión de conciertos en vivo en las redes sociales parece funcionar bien para la mayoría de las bandas, por lo que definitivamente estamos pensando en probarlo.
Jelena Dobric, ¿Cuándo la tendremos en directo en una Red Social?
Jelena:
Mi vida personal en las redes sociales - sí, definitivamente es algo que también debería considerar hacer, he estado pensando en ello por un tiempo, pero como no soy una "persona de las redes sociales" por naturaleza, solo me toma un poco de preparación mental para planifíquelo y ejecútelo. Pero sucederá :).
¿Qué avances o novedades tienen para nosotros Jelena y la banda Persona? ¡para los fans!
Jelena:
Estamos trabajando activamente en un nuevo álbum: ¡espere algo un poco diferente, más moderno y más emocionante que nunca! :) También estamos planeando lanzar una campaña de crowdfunding para ayudarnos a financiarlo, junto con el video musical de nuestro primer single, en aproximadamente un mes (a fines de octubre / principios de noviembre).

Jelena:
