Bloody Unicorn was born in the province of Padua in 2016, from an idea of Irene ‘Eva’ Scapin. In June 2016 Davy Scarpellini (Barbarossa) joined the band as guitarist and the band was initally called Azra’il. After several line-up changes and one year in the rehearsal room, the band released the song Crushing Down in February 2018, in order to anticipate the process of composition and recordings for their first EP.

 

In September 2018, the line-up lost drum and bass. A few weeks after, Lorenzo Telve (Canticum Diaboli, Barbarossa) joined the band as the drummer.

 

In January 2019 the band started to record their first EP, ‘Of Monsters Under the Bed’, brought to life on September 5th 2019. In the EP there are 6 tracks, all connected by a thread that leads to the main title. Recording, Mixing and Mastering are done by Lorenzo Telve, orchestration is arranged by Francesco Tilenni and the artwork is designed by Sabry Ardore.

 

At the same time, the band started their live activity and the promotion for ‘Of Monsters Under the Bed’.

Rising of the Dormant Mind (Instrumental Intro)

 

What a good instrumental, mysterious and dark intro, prepare my warriors in the audience for the musical fury that comes to us!

 

Crushing down

 

And indeed! A totally strong entrance, with Eva's beautiful and brutal voice combining throaty and clean voice, a powerful guitar and a drummer with a firm step, I like the melodic sequences that sound a bit in the background.

 

Running Out of Time

 

Interesting intro, very blunt and heavy just from the guitar / drum, here our wonderful Eva opens the song to us in a clean and very clear voice but suddenly surprises with a loud throaty.

 

Of Monsters Under the Bed

 

The song with the name of this LP, explosive and accelerated entry, then surprises us with a clean and calm voice just as the song becomes more relaxed the track, combinations of fast tempos, accelerated at times next to Eva's spontaneous guttural!

 

Faith

 

A contrasting input with a constant sound and rhythm, without leaving aside the forcefulness of the instruments and within those combinations we have a clean / throaty voice.

 

Forgiven

 

And to close this LP an even more heartbreaking song, from the entrance of the song we have the beautiful guttural voice of Eva, accompanied by a very powerful and repetitive drum bass drum, later a drastic change in sound, rhythm and clean voice to the final part.

 

My Recommendation

 

An interesting melodic death metal triad and I would also say symphonic, with a good debut 'Of Monsters Under the Bed' but first it must be said not to be guided by the cover of the album or the intro of this EP, the sound and lyric They will take you on a dark path from your childhood to what surrounds us today.

 

It is an interesting album and it was a bit of the ordinary to start from the band's name and the sweet and beautiful Eva! The Intro is gently masterful, epic and even from a distant time, but then a musical bombardment that clogs your ears, a very continuous guitar, heavy and without pauses as such, followed or at times exceeded by a battery that plays the same Like, it's death they expected! And so must the musical content!

 

It is a very melodic EP with a dense atmosphere at times and sharp drum, at times the rhythm of the different songs is repeated, the style of death they have is curious a bit with suddenly abrupt times as on the track of Faith strong at all times but a little mismatch by combining Eva's voice and the music track. The strongest part of the EP is the strong and powerful start, the song itself with the name of the EP Of Monsters Under the Bed and where we hear a little more of the band's musical abilities is if in the final part with Forgiven, both a little more 'acoustic' like Eva's voice change being clearer and more acute with Eva's vocal record that is heard naturally.

 

It is a good EP with a totally brutal load but without losing a little the masterful and epic part that it has at the beginning in addition to the lyric that many will like along with a heavy and dark sound!

 

 

CONCEPT SONG BY SONG

 

Crushing Down:

 

Inspired by the stand-up poem by Sabrina Benaim: “Explaining my depression to my mom: a conversation”. The deepest depression, the one that doesn’t allow you to get up from their shoulder, hoping that that shadow won’t prevail on them.

 

Running Out of Time:

 

Initally born to talk about the time running away, it turned into an empathetic meeting encounter with those who suffer from neurodegenerative disease. Losing ourselves with the loss of our memories, believing that we are drowning in a life that is not ours anymore.

 

Of Monsters Under the Bed:

 

Everyone of us, when we were kids, was probably afraid of the monster under the bed, inside the closet or in the basement. That monster, then, became part of us without us noticing.

 

Faith:

 

Post-apocalyptic scenario that, despite the title, doesn’t show hope. Humanity is lost in its mistakes and we carry responsability for leaving room for nastiness and despair.

 

Forgiven:

 

Post-apocalyptic scenario, again, where it’s better to die than to live. In all this, a light of hope is still at the end of the tunnel. the song is Involuntarily inspired by the climate debates happening at this time.

 

In a nutshell, every piece is connected to the other by the theme of the “Monster” and whatever it implies. Monsters in our head, Monsters in our society, Monsters that are destroying our world.

 

 

The Voice

 

Eva's voice! This woman sounds and sounds aggressive, intersperses between clean and heavy guttural voices throughout the EP, especially we can hear her most natural vocal record in the final part with Forgiven, something that I notice is that when she sings cleanly and clearly the Instrumentation is not very strong or stuck and that is fine according to the rhythm and strength of the track your voice range changes and gives us a sample of your throaty that she can throw!

Bloody Unicorn nació en la provincia de Padua en 2016, a partir de una idea de Irene "Eva" Scapin. En junio de 2016, Davy Scarpellini (Barbarroja) se unió a la banda como guitarrista y la banda inicialmente se llamaba Azra’il. Después de varios cambios de formación y un año en la sala de ensayo, la banda lanzó la canción Crushing Down en febrero de 2018, para anticipar el proceso de composición y grabaciones para su primer EP.

 

En septiembre de 2018, la formación perdió batería y bajo. Unas semanas después, Lorenzo Telve (Canticum Diaboli, Barbarroja) se unió a la banda como baterista.

 

En enero de 2019, la banda comenzó a grabar su primer EP, "Of Monsters Under the Bed", traído a la vida el 5 de septiembre de 2019. En el EP hay 6 pistas, todas conectadas por un hilo que conduce al título principal. La grabación, mezcla y masterización están a cargo de Lorenzo Telve, la orquestación está a cargo de Francesco Tilenni y la obra de arte está diseñada por Sabry Ardore.

 

Al mismo tiempo, la banda comenzó su actividad en vivo y la promoción de "Of Monsters Under the Bed".

Que buen intro instrumental, misterioso y oscuro, prepárense mis guerreros en la audiencia para la furia musical que se nos viene! 

 

Crushing Down

 

Y efectivamente! Una entrada totalmente fuerte, con la bella y brutal voz de Eva combinando guturales y voz limpia, una guitarra potente y una batería con paso firme, me agradan las secuencias melódicas que suenan un poco en el fondo.

 

Running Out of Time

 

Interesante intro, muy contundente y pesado tan solo de la guitarra/batería, aquí nuestra maravillosa Eva nos abre la canción con voz limpia y muy clara pero de pronto sorprende con un fuerte gutural.

 

Of Monsters Under the Bed

 

La canción con el nombre de este LP, explosiva y acelerada entrada, después nos sorprende con una voz limpia y tranquila al igual que la canción se vuelve más relajada la pista, combinaciones de tempos rápidos, acelerados por momentos junto a los guturales espontáneos de Eva!

 

Faith

 

Una entrada contrastante con un sonido y ritmo constante, sin dejar a un lado la contundencia de los instrumentos y dentro de esas combinaciones tenemos voz limpia/gutural.

 

Forgiven

 

Y para cerrar este LP una canción aún más desgarradora, desde la entrada de la canción contamos con la bella voz gutural de Eva, acompañada con un bombo muy potente y repetitivo de batería, más adelante un cambio drástico en sonido, ritmo y voz limpia para la parte final.

 

Mi Recomendación

 

Una Interesante tríada de death metal melódico y yo diría también sinfónico, con un buen debut ‘Of Monsters Under the Bed‘pero antes hay que decir que no te dejes guiar por la portada del albúm o el intro de este EP, el sonido y lirica te llevaran por un oscuro camino desde tu niñez hasta lo que nos rodea hoy en día.

 

Es un álbum interesante y fuera un poco de lo común para empezar desde el nombre de la banda y la dulce y bella Eva!  El Intro es suavemente magistral, épico y hasta de alguna época lejana, pero después un bombardeo musical que te atasca los oídos, una guitarra muy continua, pesada y sin pausas como tal, seguida o por momentos rebasada por una batería que le juega de igual a igual, es death que esperaban! Y así debe de ser el contenido musical!

 

Es un EP muy melódico con una atmósfera densa por momentos y giros bruscos de batería, por momentos se repite el ritmo de las diferentes canciones,  el estilo de death que tienen es curioso un poco con contra tiempos abruptos de repente como en la pista de Faith fuerte en todo momento pero un poco de desajuste al combinar la voz de Eva y la pista musical. La parte más fuerte del EP es el inicio fuerte y potente, la canción misma con el nombre del EP Of Monsters Under the Bed y donde escuchamos un poco más de las habilidades musicales de la banda es si en la parte final con Forgiven, tanto un poco más ‘acústico’ como el cambio de voz de Eva siendo más clara y aguda con el registro vocal de Eva que se escucha al natural.

 

Es un buen EP con una carga totalmente brutal pero sin perder un poco la parte magistral y épica que tiene al inicio además de la lírica que a muchos les va a gustar junto a un sonido pesado y oscuro!!

 

CONCEPTO CANCIÓN POR CANCIÓN

 

Aplastando:

 

Inspirado por el poema stand-up de Sabrina Benaim: "Explicar mi depresión a mi madre: una conversación". La depresión más profunda, la que no te permite levantarte del hombro, esperando que esa sombra no prevalezca sobre ellos.

 

Quedarse sin tiempo:

 

Inicialmente nacido para hablar sobre el tiempo que se escapa, se convirtió en un encuentro de encuentro empático con aquellos que sufren de enfermedades neuro degenerativas. Perdiéndonos con la pérdida de nuestros recuerdos, creyendo que nos estamos ahogando en una vida que ya no es la nuestra.

 

De monstruos debajo de la cama:

 

Todos nosotros, cuando éramos niños, probablemente temíamos al monstruo debajo de la cama, dentro del armario o en el sótano. Ese monstruo, entonces, se convirtió en parte de nosotros sin que nos demos cuenta.

 

Fe:

 

Escenario post-apocalíptico que, a pesar del título, no muestra esperanza. La humanidad está perdida en sus errores y tenemos la responsabilidad de dejar espacio para la maldad y la desesperación.

 

Perdonado:

 

Escenario post-apocalíptico, nuevamente, donde es mejor morir que vivir. En todo esto, todavía hay una luz de esperanza al final del túnel. la canción está inspirada involuntariamente en los debates climáticos que se producen en este momento.

 

En pocas palabras, cada pieza está conectada a la otra por el tema del "Monstruo" y lo que sea que implique. Monstruos en nuestra cabeza, Monstruos en nuestra sociedad, Monstruos que están destruyendo nuestro mundo.

 

La Voz

 

La voz de Eva! esta mujer suena y se oye agresiva, intercala entre voces guturales limpias y pesadas en todo el EP, sobre todo podemos escuchar su registro vocal más al natural en la parte final con Forgiven, algo que note es que cuando canta de forma limpia y clara la instrumentación no es muy fuerte o atascada y eso está bien de acuerdo al ritmo y fuerza de la pista su rango de voz cambia y nos da una muestra de sus guturales que ella puede lanzar!
