Bio Official of the álbum:

Resist is the seventh studio album by the symphonic metal band Within Temptation. It was scheduled to be released on December 14, 2018, but due to production problems, it finally came to light on February 1, 2019. The album consists of ten songs, of which three contain collaborations by artists such as Jacoby Shaddix (Singer of Papa Roach), Anders Fridén (Singer of In Flames) and alternative rock singer Jasper Steverlinck (Arid).

01 - The Reckoning

The Reckoning (ft. Jacoby Shaddix)

Enough dense and heavy input, an apocalyptic video clip very well set, completely Rock and Symphonic Metal dark and powerful, electronic arrangements well harmonized and executed, I could even say that it has alternative Metal tints.

02 - Endless War

Slow and heavy input, the symphonic metal and the electronic part are still present, a very remarkable refrain with the synthesizers that are combined with an electric guitar, well known, I like the choirs that accompany it, as well as the song ends like that, in this song the beautiful voice of Sharon is most noticeable! A song with a clear message which the letter says such and such at the time of expressing it like that, no more harm to the one who harms us and less clings.

03 - Raise Your Banner (ft. Anders Fridén)

Light input, heavy and forceful, orchestral and in addition to metal and symphonic rock very present, I love that symphonic part with that desperate cry, a remarkable electronic section, the struggle between freedom and part of how technology is dominating in our lives and how we let ourselves be enslaved by that form.

04 - Supernova

A very good entry more spectacular and with greater presence in the voice, greater sound of the battery and the electronic part as the synthesizers, a composition of symphonic metal with the electronic counterpart we can say an electro rock! Death and Life, the very star of our creation, a well-expressed metaphor for a loved one and especially this song for Sharon.

05 - Holy Ground

A lighter sound and rhythm, the soft and beautiful voice of Sharon with a lead role guitar is more than remarkable more than in the previous song and with greater strength you can hear those guitars! Along with the accompaniment of synthesizers and a violin that gives a dramatic touch to an electronic sound, the lyric is very curious and direct! Towards who is directed? 'Bury the truth with lies', 'your words are like pistols, which cause showers of bullets', more than clear.

06 - In Vain

Similar the entrance a little more simple and light, drums and moderate guitars, has a more pessimistic style for what is heard and lyrics, focuses on the feeling of defeat, but with a good style, Sharon's voice expresses much better the dramatic part and the exalta.

07 - Firelight (ft. Jasper Steverlinck)

A dark and slow song, with a metal and symphonic rock but in low doses, a style with a greater presence of electronic elements and very atmospheric, which integrate the voices of Sharon and Jasper with an apocalyptic atmosphere! I like the melancholic and lugubrious theme.

08 - Mad World

In this theme electric guitars have a main role and presence, dense that pleases me! Accompanied by synthesizers and drums, a repetitive chorus that makes the name of the song, I think a song that tells us about the current situation, crazier and less intelligent honestly!

09 - Mercy Mirror

A more instrumental theme, quite light in rhythm and sound, reproduces a similar instrumentation theme, accompanied by very quiet electric guitars, very little presence of the drums and of course the electronic part with a clear presence in musical structure, I like the refrain that it is amplified and continuous, a song of forgiveness and emotional dependence.

10 - Trophy Hunter

An excellent closure! A heavier and less immediate composition a perfect symphonic metal with industrial rock which is clear but with little presence in some of the previous songs, along with an important electronic component, I think it is the hallmark of Within Temptation as I know it! Slow but heavy the song and dense in rich and dark sounds.

My Recomendation

A different sound, if with a greater ingredient of synthesizers or the electronic part and especially in the video clips of the simple releases, yes, if we talk about what has evolved throughout his more than 20 years of career, and has remained faithful to its distinctive sound from 'Enter' that was Doom Metal to 'Resist', with a clear seal of Symphonic Metal / Rock / Alternative Metal with Industrial tendency, in each album WT reveals a new facet and with a very clear emotion in that moment when society is happening! We also hear that Sharon's voice is very present throughout the album, along with the keyboards of Martijn and Mike's drums.

Examples of his previous works like Enter (1997), Mother Earth (2000), The Silent Force (2004), The Heart Of Everything (2007), The Unforgiving (2011), and Hydra (2014) all have their unique sound and their found emotions. An album of metal and symphonic rock, with a diverse and direct lyrics! That makes it a very emotional album unlike many other bands, another excellent and incontestable musical work to an unblemished discography of WT. Not for anything reached the number 1 # of one of the leading lists in the world.

If we talk about the lyrics, it is extremely direct and above all that it deals with current issues that continue to plague us and we are simply participants in such a decline as technology in social networks. Without leaving aside the problems of emotional dependence towards each other in order to hurt ourselves deeply. For that reason, it's called Resist! Fight for your freedom and do not allow setbacks, do not allow more damage. And I think the theme is ambiguous, an album with a very strong position and we can also talk about a loving relationship with problems and the complicated political-social panorama in which we live today as I said before.

Just remember the first works and lyrics of his discography is full of songs about legends, fantastic creatures, love / heartbreak (with a relationship quite devastating and toxic), reconstruction and struggle to get ahead, personal liberation, but also as I said content and social themes like Frozen (from 2007), with themes of male violence and child abuse Utopia (from 2009), since it talks about the search for a cure for humanity in the face of so much lack of identity or Shot In The Dark (from 2011) ) of child abuse.

Therefore, it is not surprising that in Resist, again, the voice of Sharon shares prominence with those of Jacoby Shaddix (leader of Papa Roach), Anders Fridén (In Flames and Passenger) and Jasper Steverlinck (also guitarist of Arid).

The Voice

What can I say about the beautiful voice of Sharon, accompanied by Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, Anders Fridén of In Flames and Passenger and Jasper Steverlinck guitarist of Arid, as well as the previous Hydra album with other singers, highlight the soft voice of Sharon, delicate and dramatic, without getting lost among the sounds that accompany it, simply with a perfect vocal register that keeps it very clear!

Resist es el séptimo álbum de estudio de la banda de metal sinfónico Within Temptation. Estaba programado para ser lanzado el 14 de diciembre de 2018, pero debido a problemas de producción, finalmente salió a la luz el 1 de febrero de 2019. El álbum consta de diez canciones, de las cuales tres contienen colaboraciones de artistas como Jacoby Shaddix (cantante de Papa Roach), Anders Fridén (cantante de In Flames) y el cantante de rock alternativo Jasper Steverlinck (Arid).

Tracklist!

01 – The Reckoning

The Reckoning (ft. Jacoby Shaddix)

Entrada completamente densa y pesada, un apocalíptico videoclip muy bien ambientado, completamente Rock y Metal Sinfónico oscuro y poderoso, arreglos electrónicos bien armonizados y ejecutados, hasta podría decir que tiene tintes de Metal alternativo.

02 – Endless War

Entrada lenta y pesada, sigue presente el metal sinfónico y la parte electrónica, un estribillo muy notable junto a los sintetizadores que se conjuntan a una guitarra eléctrica, bien notoria, me gusta los coros que la acompañan, así como comienza así termina la canción, en esta canción se aprecia de forma más notable la bella voz de Sharon! Una canción con un claro mensaje el cual la letra dice tal y cual al momento de expresarla así, no más daño a quien nos hace daño y menos aferrase.

03 – Raise Your Banner (ft. Anders Fridén)

Entrada liviana, pesada y contundente, orquestal y además del metal y rock sinfónico muy presentes, me encanta esa parte sinfónica junto a ese grito desesperado, una sección electrónica notable, la lucha entre la libertad y parte de como la tecnología esta dominando en nuestras vidas y como nos dejamos esclavizarnos por dicha forma.

04 – Supernova

Una muy buena entrada más espectacular y con mayor presencia en la voz, mayor sonido de la batería y la parte electrónica como los sintetizadores, una composición de metal sinfónico con la contraparte electrónica podemos decir un electro rock! Muerte y Vida, la estrella misma de nuestra creación, una metáfora bien expresada para un ser querido y en especial esta canción para Sharon.

05 – Holy Ground

Un sonido y ritmo más liviano, la suave y bella voz de Sharon con un protagonismo guitarrero es más que notable más que en la canción anterior y con mayor fuerza se escuchan esas guitarras! Junto al acompañamiento de sintetizadores y un violín que le da un toque dramático en un sonido electrónico, la lírica es muy curiosa y directa! ¿Hacia quien está dirigida? ‘enterrar la verdad con mentiras’, ‘tus palabras son como pistolas, que provocan lluvias de balas’, más que claro.

06 – In Vain

Semejante la entrada un poco más sencilla y liviana, batería y guitarras moderadas, posee un estilo más pesimista por lo que se escucha y letra, se centra en el sentimiento de la derrota, pero con un buen estilo, la voz de Sharon expresa mucho mejor la parte dramática y la exalta.

07 – Firelight (ft. Jasper Steverlinck)

Una canción oscura y lenta, con un metal y rock sinfónico pero en bajas dosis, un estilo con mayor presencia de elementos electrónicos y muy atmosférica, el cual se integran las voces de Sharon y de Jasper con un ambiente apocalíptico! Me agrada la temática melancólica y lúgubre.

08 – Mad World

En este tema las guitarras eléctricas tienen un papel principal y presencia, densas eso me agrada! Acompañados de sintetizadores y la batería, un estribillo repetitivo que hace el nombre de la canción, creo que una canción que nos habla de la situación actual, más loco y menos inteligente sinceramente!

09 – Mercy Mirror

Un tema más instrumental, bastante liviano en ritmo y sonido, reproduce un tema de instrumentación similar, acompañados de guitarras eléctricas muy tranquilas, muy poca presencia de la batería y claro la parte electrónica con una clara presencia en estructura musical, me agrada el estribillo que es amplificado y continuo, una canción del perdón y dependencia emocional.

10 – Trophy Hunter

Un cierre excelente! Una composición más pesada y menos inmediata un perfecto metal sinfónico con rock industrial el cual se muestra claro pero con poca presencia en algunas de las canciones anteriores, junto a un componente electrónico importante, creo que es el sello distintivo de Within Temptation como lo conozco! Lenta pero pesada la canción y densa en sonidos ricos y oscuros.

Mi Recomendación

Un sonido distinto, si con mayor ingrediente de sintetizadores o la parte electrónica y sobre todo en los video clips de los sencillos lanzados, eso sí, si hablamos de que ha evolucionado a lo largo de sus más de 20 años de carrera, y se ha mantenido fiel a su sonido distintivo desde ‘Enter’ que era Doom Metal hasta ‘Resist’, con un claro sello de Metal Sinfónico/Rock/Metal Alternativo con tendencia Industrial, en cada álbum WT nos revela una faceta nueva y con una emoción muy clara en ese momento en que la sociedad está pasando! También escuchamos que la voz de Sharon hace mucha presencia en todo el álbum, junto con los teclados de Martijn y la batería de Mike.

Ejemplos de sus trabajos anteriores como Enter (1997), Mother Earth (2000), The Silent Force (2004), The Heart Of Everything (2007), The Unforgiving (2011), y Hydra (2014) todos tienen su sonido único y sus emociones encontradas. Un álbum de metal y rock sinfónico, con una lírica diversa y directa! Eso lo hace un álbum muy emocional a diferencia de muchos otras bandas, otra excelente e incontestable obra musical a una discografía intachable de WT. No por algo alcanzaron el numero 1# de una de las listas principales del mundo.

Si hablamos de la letra es sumamente directa y sobre todo que aborda temas de la actualidad que nos siguen aquejando y simplemente somos participes de semejante decadencia como la tecnología en redes sociales. Sin dejar a un lado los problemas de dependencia emocional hacia unos a otros con el fin de dañarnos profundamente. Por esa Razón se llama Resist! Pelea por tu libertad y no permitas retrocesos, no permitas más daño. Y creo que la temática es ambigua, un álbum con una postura muy marcada y además se puede hablar de una relación amorosa con problemas y del complicado panorama político-social en el que vivimos actualmente como lo dije anteriormente.

Solo por recordar los primeros trabajos y letras de su discografía está llena de canciones sobre leyendas, criaturas fantásticas, amor/desamor (con una relación bastante devastadora y tóxica), reconstrucción y lucha por salir adelante, de liberación personal, pero también como dije de contenido y temática social como Frozen (del 2007), con temas de violencia machista y maltrato infantil Utopia (del 2009), puesto que habla de la búsqueda de la cura para la humanidad ante tanta falta de identidad o Shot In The Dark (del 2011) de maltrato y abuso infantil.

Por tanto, no es de extrañar que en Resist, de nuevo, la voz de Sharon comparta protagonismo con las de Jacoby Shaddix (líder de Papa Roach), Anders Fridén (In Flames y Passenger) y Jasper Steverlinck (también guitarrista de Arid).
