Gresystone Canyon is an Australian band whose name is inspired by the freedom that open landscapes evoke and that are usually found both in their homeland and in America. Their line-up is:

 

Darren Cherry - Voice and guitar.

Luke Wilson - Battery.

Rich Vella - Guitar.

Dave Poulter - Bass.

 

The band is preparing for the release of their new single "Astral Plane" that will be released in early 2020 being the last of their debut album "While the wheel still turn" (2018) because they are already in the recording studio composing their second album.

 

Here’s the review:

 

The first image that comes to our mind when you’re listening this album is a desert landscape accompanied by some rocky reliefs as if it were an old western movie. Their musical style is a mixture of hard rock combined with western characterized using electric and acoustic guitar, a battery that catches you from the first chord and a voice that evokes classical rock.

 

Keeping company with the dead.

 

It is the introductory song of the album. Darren Cherry and Rich Vella perform a guitar performance whose chords move you to a desert place that glimpses the image of a large canyon in the background. The voices interpreted as a chorus welcome you.

 

Astral plane

 

A song that picks up the chords of its predecessor with a soft sound that becomes strong and aggressive, returning to the influence of speed metal combined with its western roots. Darren Cherry's voice gives identity to this musical proposal. This simple room closes the promotion of their debut album with a flourish.

 

In these shoes.

 

Song with which Greystone Canyon was presented to the world. An instrumental introduction that evokes the films of the old west and its characteristic landscapes that gradually increases the intensity of its chords denoting a melody that seduces classic hard rock and trash metal. A guitar solo accompanied by the drums masterfully closes this song.

 

Cinco cuerda bandito.

 

Instrumental song that as an intermediate evokes rain and the chords of the guitar convey a feeling of melancholy that is accentuated at the end with some chimes.

 

Takes us all.

 

It is the second single of this Australian band. A soft and delicate sound unlike their previous songs, the presence of guitar solos is recurring, but it gives them dynamism and does not diminish the interest of the listener.

 

Sombrero serenade

 

Instrumental song in which the Spanish influence in the performance of the guitars is denoted. Without words, it is beautiful.

 

River of fire.

 

A ballad that begins with a guitar solo where Darren Cherry's high voice stands out for the melancholy, he evokes by providing accompaniment to musical instruments. A guitar solo enters the middle of the song adding a touch of drama and continues until the end.

 

Path we stray.

A song that highlights the prominence of the guitar and drums. This third single from the band shows a ballad that plays with the hard rock chords in which almost the term evokes the great exponents of classical metal.

 

The sun sets.

 

The longest song within the album whose electroacoustic instrumentation announces the end of this trip through desert and rocky landscapes that over a period of nine songs created a plot as if it were an old western movie. In the last minutes there is an outro where Darren's voice stands out over the other instruments. A spectacular closure for this album.

 

The Recommendation:

 

Greystone Canyon created a spectacular album. The way in which it was structured starting with a powerful and accelerated sound through the melodic and the nostalgic visually and auditively describes an Old West movie characterized by adventure, drama and action. Considered by critics as the debut album of the year, I couldn't agree more with them.

 

Rating: 10/10.

Gresystone Canyon es una banda australiana cuyo nombre se inspira en la libertad que evocan los paisajes abiertos y que suelen encontrarse tanto en su tierra natal como en América. Está integrada por:

 

Darren Cherry – Voz y guitarra.

Luke Wilson – Batería.

Rich Vella – Guitarra.

Dave Poulter – Bajo.

 

La banda esta preparándose para el lanzamiento de su nuevo sencillo “Astral Plane” que verá la luz a principios de 2020 siendo el último de su álbum debut “While the wheel still turn” (2018) pues ya se encuentran en el estudio de grabación componiendo su segundo material discográfico.

 

Aquí la reseña:

 

Este álbum al momento de escucharlo la primera imagen que viene a nuestra mente es un paisaje desértico acompañado con algunos relieves rocosos como si se tratara de una película del viejo oeste. Su estilo musical es una mezcla de hard rock combinado con western caracterizado por el empleo de la guitarra eléctrica y acústica, una batería que te atrapa desde el primer acorde y una voz que evoca al rock clásico. 

 

Keeping company with the dead.

 

Es la canción introductoria del álbum. Darren Cherry y Rich Vella realizan una ejecución de la guitarra cuyos acordes te trasladan a un lugar desértico que vislumbra la imagen de un gran cañón al fondo. Las voces interpretadas a manera de coro te dan la bienvenida.

 

Astral plane.

 

Una canción que retoma los acordes de su predecesora con un sonido suave que se va tornando fuerte y agresivo retomando la influencia del speed metal combinado con sus raíces western. La voz de Darren Cherry le aporta identidad a su propuesta musical. Este cuarto sencillo cierra con broche de oro la promoción de su álbum debut.

 

In these shoes.

 

Canción con que se presentó Greystone Canyon ante el mundo. Una introducción instrumental que evoca a las películas del viejo oeste y sus característicos paisajes que poco a poco aumenta la intensidad de sus acordes denotando en una melodía que seduce al hard rock clásico y al trash metal. Un solo de guitarra acompañado por la batería cierran de forma magistral esta canción.

 

Cinco cuerda bandito.

 

Canción instrumental que a manera de intermedio evoca a la lluvia y los acordes de la guitarra transmiten un sentimiento de melancolía que se acentúa al final con unas campanadas.

 

Takes us all.

 

Constituye el segundo sencillo de esta banda australiana. Un sonido suave y delicado a diferencia de sus canciones anteriores, la presencia de los solos de guitarra es recurrente, pero le aporta dinamismo y no decae el interés del oyente.

 

Sombrero serenade.

 

Canción instrumental en la que se denota la influencia española en la ejecución de las guitarras. Sin palabras, es hermosa.

 

River of fire.

 

Una balada que comienza con un solo de guitarra donde la voz aguda de Darren Cherry destaca por la melancolía que evoca al brindar acompañamiento a los instrumentos musicales. Un solo de guitarra incursiona a mitad de la canción agregándole un toque de dramatismo y que continua hasta el final.

 

Path we stray.

 

Una canción en la que destaca el protagonismo de la guitarra y la batería. Este tercer sencillo de la banda muestra una balada que juega con los acordes del hard rock en la que casi el término evoca a los grandes exponentes del metal clásico.

 

The sun sets.

 

La canción de mayor duración dentro del álbum cuya instrumentación electroacústica anuncia el fin de este viaje a través de paisajes desérticos y rocosos que a lo largo de nueve canciones crearon una trama como se si tratara de una película del viejo oeste. En los últimos minutos se presenta un otro donde destaca la voz de Darren sobre los demás instrumentos. Un cierre espectacular para este álbum.

 

La Recomendación:

 

Greystone Canyon creó un álbum espectacular. La forma en cómo se estructuró comenzando por un sonido potente y acelerado pasando por lo melódico y lo nostálgico describen visual y auditivamente una película del viejo oeste caracterizado por la aventura, el drama y la acción. Considerado por la critica como el álbum debut del año, no podría estar más de acuerdo con ellos.

 

Calificación: 10/10.
