Meliora is a Progressive Rock group that was formed at the beginning of 2017, as a result of the solo project of Fabiola Simac and with the desire to make progressive rock in a free and eclectic way, fusing different genres, creating mystical and psychological atmospheres, where the sound of the violin and the female voice vibrate with their notes.

Hi! My friend Fabiola! Thank you very much for having this opportunity with you! Tell us a little about you!

​

How are you, Fabiola?

​

F: Hi Darkzen, I'm excited to talk here with you!

​

Tell us about yourself, who is Fabiola and how did you get to this Rock / Metal scene?

​

F:

​

Well, I'll start by saying that since my childhood the music called me, my grandfather was a violinist and my grandmother an opera singer, my father also instilled in me a taste for classical music, rock and metal. I started in children's choirs, then at 14 the violin, later piano, cello and even studying singing. I started my first symphonic metal band at age 15, since I met several colleagues who wanted to make metal like me. From then until now I have had the fortune to do what I love, to evolve and to meet incredible colleagues.

What was your maximum influence within the music scene?

​

F:

​

Bands like The Doors, Beatles and also Elvis Presley, but also classical music.

​

How do you train your voice?

​

F:

​

My teachers have been a great guide, I adore them and I absorb a lot of learning from them, I like to study pieces that represent a risk for me, I drink a lot of water and as every singer knows, I start to warm up before recording or Any presentation, I also have to tell you that many times I absorb my practice with the violin, which is also a very demanding instrument. I like to dedicate time to everything I have.

Is Fabiola the music that sings or is another person in the stage?

​

F:

​

On stage I am free, I feel free to do what I love without ties, I have evolved a lot, I have managed to liberate Fabiola real, energetic and full of passion. In my common days I am very hermit, I go out if necessary, I like to be with myself, creating music, playing and singing.

​

What are your Musical influences within Metal?

​

F:

​

Black Sabbath, Slayer, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Epica, Nightwish, Burzum ...

​

Why do you like the violin, some inspiration from?

​

F:

​

When I was little I remember that I saw musicians in symphonic orchestras creating beautiful sounds with that "little bar" with that little instrument on their shoulders... already the sound amazed me, but I wanted to understand how it worked .... Some time later I came across videos of a violinist named Vanessa Mae, with her electric violin playing rock... and wooow inspired me to save for my first violin.

​

What does it mean for you to combine this great instrument, with your voice and your own musical style?

​

F:

​

It's a wonder, when I saw that the fusion of the violin with rock and metal was something wonderful, do not hesitate to be part of something like that, I have the freedom to express myself singing and playing in the genre you like, in this case the progressive It has given me wings to achieve even more with my creativity as a composer.

​

Tell us about your álbum 'Holistic Journey' How was the total creation of the álbum?

​

F:

​

It's a very special album because it's the first of my band Meliora, a project that I formed a year and a half ago, we all worked together in the musical composition, it was a brainstorming session in each trial and the best part is that we have that connection as musicians to create among all. Right now we are assembling new material.

​

Any special song on the álbum? And because?

​

F:

​

It would have more than one, however "Disdain" was born just when it was announced that we were one of the finalist bands to be part of the Mega Prog Festival 2018, it was a very heavy contest of more than two weeks in which we received all kinds of comments in Critique, the lyrics of that song goes to all those haters who thought that we would not be able to take our Holistic Journey to the mega prog festival.

Tell us about your single soloist 'Clinging to Nostalgia', good video by the way and voice!

​

F:

​

I thank you very much for the support, it's a job that I've been dragging for more than 3 years, in which I've created music by myself and I've given myself the freedom to do things the way I want, where I want and my way, I want to show what I have in my head as a composer and capture it in each instrument not only violin and voice. This year wait for my album Immersion, a journey to progressive rock full of nostalgia and dark passages, an album that will show a bit more of me as the first female musician to record an album of progressive rock solo.

​

Any special duets that you would like to do with? And why, with Meliora or your solo project?

​

F:

​

It would fascinate me enormously to sing with Noam (vocalist of Iden Gakusha).

​

Your opinion of Rock / Mexican Metal, what would you say to the world?

​

F:

​

The rock scene and especially the metal here in Mexico has grown enormously, more and more festivals and platforms of diffusion are present to support the bands, nowadays there are more and more metal bands.

​

Do you have a tour in Mexico or why not outside of the country?

​

F:

​

For this 2019 we have planned several states of the Republic, we want to get where we can, it is not easy to achieve it in an independent way but we will not stop, We also want a second álbum and that is why we are working twice as much.

​

Your band Meliora, what does the name mean and who has this year for your fans?

​

F:

​

Meliora comes from Latin and means the search to be better and this 2019 expect merchandise from the band in the shows and new live material.

​

​

Meliora es una agrupación de Rock Progresivo que se formó a inicios del 2017, como resultado del proyecto solista de Fabiola Simac y  bajo el deseo de querer hacer rock progresivo de una manera libre y ecléctica, fusionando diferentes géneros, creando atmósferas místicas y psicológicas, donde el sonido del violín y la voz femenina hagan vibrar con sus notas.

¿Cómo estás Fabiola?

​

F:

Hola Darkzen, estoy emocionada de platicar aquí contigo!

​

¿Cuéntanos sobre ti, quien es Fabiola y como llegaste a esta escena del Rock/Metal?

​

F:

​

Bueno, comenzaré por contar que desde niña me llamó la música, mi abuelo era violinista y mi abuela cantante de ópera, mi padre además me inculco el gusto por la música clásica, el rock y el metal. Yo comencé en coros infantiles, luego a los 14 el violín, posteriormente piano, cello y aun estudiando canto. Inicié mi primera banda de metal sinfónico a los 15 años ya que conocí a varios colegas que querían hacer metal al  igual que yo. De ahí hasta ahora he tenido la fortuna de hacer lo que amo, de evolucionar y de conocer a colegas increíbles.

​

¿Cuál fue tu influencia máxima dentro de la escena musical?

​

F:

​

Bandas como The Doors, Beatles y también Elvis Presley, pero también la música clásica.

​

¿Cómo entrenas tu voz?

​

F:

 

Mis maestros han sido una gran guía, los adoro y absorbo de ellos mucho aprendizaje,  me gusta estudiar piezas que representen un riesgo para mí, tomo bastante agua y como todo cantante sabe, me pongo a calentar la voz antes de grabar  o de cualquier presentación, también  tengo que decirte que muchas veces me absorbe el tiempo mi practica con el violín, que además es un instrumento muy exigente. Me gusta dedicarle tiempo a todo lo que tengo.

​

¿Fabiola es la música que canta o en el escenario es otra?

​

F:

​

En escenario soy libre, me siento con la libertad de hacer lo que amo sin ataduras, he evolucionado mucho, he logrado poco a poco liberar a la Fabiola real, energética y llena de pasión. En mis días comunes soy muy ermitaña, salgo si es necesario, me gusta mucho estar conmigo misma, creando música, tocando y cantando.

​

¿Cuáles son tus influencias Musicales dentro del Metal?

​

F:

 

Black Sabbath, Slayer, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Epica, Nightwish, Burzum….

​

¿Por qué te gusta el violín, alguna inspiración de parte de?

​

F:

​

Cuando era pequeña recuerdo que veía en las orquestas sinfónicas a los músicos creando sonidos hermosos con esa “barita” con ese pequeño instrumento en sus hombros… ya de por si el sonido me maravillaba, pero quería entender cómo funcionaba…. Algún tiempo después me encontré con videos de una violinista llamada Vanessa Mae, con su violín eléctrico tocando rock…y wooow me inspiro para ahorrar para mi primer violín.

 

¿Qué significa para ti el poder combinar este gran instrumento, con tu voz y el estilo musical propio?

​

F:

​

Es una maravilla, cuando miraba que la fusión del violín con el rock y el metal eran algo maravilloso, no dude en buscar ser parte de algo así, tengo la libertad de expresarme cantando y tocando en el género que guste, en este caso el progresivo me ha dado alas para lograr aún más con mi creatividad como compositora.

​

Cuéntanos de tu álbum ‘Viaje Holistico’ ¿Cómo fue su total creación?

​

F:

​

Es un álbum muy especial ya que es el primero de mi banda Meliora, un proyecto que formé hace un año y medio, trabajamos todos juntos en la composición musical, fue una lluvia de ideas en cada ensayo y lo mejor de todo es que tenemos esa conexión como músicos para crear entre todos. Justo ahora estamos montando material nuevo.

​

¿Alguna canción en especial del álbum? ¿Y porque?

​

F:

​

Tendría más de una, sin embargo “Desdén”  nació justo cuando se anunció que éramos una de las bandas finalistas para formar parte del Festival Mega Prog 2018, fue una contienda muy pesada de más de dos semanas en las que recibimos toda clase de comentarios en critica, la letra de esa cancón va para todos esos haters que pensaban que no lograríamos llevar nuestro Viaje Holístico al festival mega prog.

​

Cuéntanos de tu sencillo solista ‘Clinging to Nostalgia’, buen video por cierto y voz!

​

F:

​

Te agradezco mucho el apoyo, es un trabajo que vengo arrastrando de más de 3 años, en los que he creado música yo sola y me he dado a la libertad de hacer las cosas como yo quiero, donde yo quiera y a mi manera, quiero mostrar lo que tengo en mi cabeza como compositora y plasmarlo en cada instrumento no solo violín y voz. Este año esperen mi disco Immersion, un viaje al rock progresivo lleno de nostalgia y pasajes oscuros, un álbum que mostrará un poco más de mi como la primer músico mujer en grabar un álbum de rock progresivo solista.

​

¿Algún dueto en especial que te gustaría hacer con? Y porque, con Meliora o en tu proyecto Solista?

​

F:

​

Me fascinaría enormemente cantar con Noam (vocalista de Iden Gakusha).

​

Tu opinión del Rock/Metal Mexicano, que le dirías al mundo?  

​

F:

​

La escena del rock y especialmente del metal aquí en México ha crecido enormemente, cada vez más festivales y plataformas de difusión se hacen presentes para apoyar a las bandas, hoy día hay más y más  bandas de metal.

​

¿Tienen algún Tour en México o porque no fuera del país?

​

F:

​

Para este 2019 tenemos planeados varios estados de la República, queremos llegar a donde podamos, no es fácil lograrlo de una forma independiente pero no pararemos, Querémos además un segundo álbum y por eso estamos trabajando el doble.

​

¿Tu banda Meliora, que significa el nombre y que nos tiene este año para tus fans?

​

F:

​

Meliora viene del latín y significa la búsqueda de ser mejor y este 2019 esperen mercancía de la banda en los shows y material nuevo en vivo.

​

¿Algo más que nos quisieras compartir?

​

F:

​

Darte las gracias por este espacio, por el apoyo y la difusión, me pone bastante contenta  tener la oportunidad de platicar un poco más sobre mí y sobre mis proyectos.
