¿Who are Meka Nism band?

 

Meka Nism is a female fronted metal band that is comprised of exquisitely talented musicians that seamlessly work in unison to create some of the most elaborate, unique and eclectic music on the planet. Members include, Meka (vocalist), Bobby Keller (lead guitar), Jarret Robinson (bass), Jeremiah Bennett (guitar), Jay Adkisson (keys), and Jeremy Mansfield (drums).

Tell us the history behind of band and band members ¿how was born?

 

The band was originally called Meka Nism and her Rusty Tears starting in about 2005, then Ms. Meka Nism for the 3 years as that I (Meka) lived in Japan and for solo appearances. I met Bobby Keller at the end of 2010 when it became Meka Nism and is the format that we are today. We have made 3 EPs (Dance at the End of the World 2013, The Shift: Anthem for a Revolution 2015, and The War Inside 2018) so far and traveled across the country on several tours most recently with the great theatrical metal band Avatar. I had always admired Jay Adkisson on keyboard and he fit right in to really help create our signature sound. With the raw energy of Jarret Robinson on bass and the complex mind of master drummer Chris Lane we ventured to Germany to record our most recent EP, The War Inside, which we are all very proud and excited about.

 

Who is Meka? Wich is your history?

 

My early career I played guitar for punk and metal bands, wrote poetry, did art shows, activism, events and started my own bands and solo projects like Angel Autopsy, etc. I was active in the scene while studying and getting a degree in the Arts & Letters with gender studies minor including study abroad in England and Ireland. I started the band as Meka Nism and her Rusty Tears to be a concept project to express the dreams that I was having related to a village in hell and a reluctant Angel. It was a comment on how being human or flesh sometimes feels very mechanical without purpose or inspiration. We need art, passion and music to really live. It was more acoustic style when it stated with baritone sax, cello, percussion and me singing, writing and playing guitar. I released the album, Mad to Love (featuring SSA award winning song with music video Break) in January 2007, the same week that I moved to Japan. Played over 150 shows there as solo artist Ms. Meka Nism, as a opera infused performance artist and butoh inspired dancer and with my Japanese band Origami Girls. Returned to Orlando and that's when the focus became even more metal powered than ever before. It's awesome getting to scream and sing so honestly. Not many people throughout time have had this freedom. I also study healing arts and shamanism, so the significance of the message of what comes through the music is very exciting to me. The themes of manifestation and personal empowerment come through the songs. I get to incorporate all the aspects of myself, passion and studies into what we do with Meka Nism and I know it is ever expanding to surprise even us as we grow together and with our tribe.

 

 

Which style is your favorite and why Meka?

 

I deeply love anything that is insanely expressive and hauntingly beautiful at the same time. I get into music from vast genres and time periods, like a vampire of all sound. I love a lot of epic, progressive metal, goth infused rock and gypsy punk cabaret. I love the tender story tellers that can rip your heart out and make you feel more powerful because of it. Add a twist of unexpected instrumentation and I go mad. 

 

What are the musical styles that mix in your music?

 

We draw from so many different styles, all of the branches of metal and beyond. If it is powerful and reaches us, it comes through our sound. I also study the way of the shaman, the healers, the monks, the witches, the alchemists, the enlightened masters. I feel that elevated intentions make for a more epic listening experience. May this be more than just sound, may it rock your core, your spirit, your manifestations of your future self. 

 

 

What does mean the name of the band?

 

 

It is both my personal name and the name of us as a unit, as a well oiled machine with all its gears working together to create electric charged soundtracks.

 

What is the most important element for you Meka? the letter, the inspiration or the musical style in The War Inside (EP)

 

The message that comes through the music is a culmination of all the elements. It speaks to the deepest parts of souls. This is definitely not a flat, plastic, surface level experience. This is metal, this is spirit, and this comes from powerful inspiration. We would not let it be any less.

 

 

How was the experience working on the studio to The War Inside (EP)? I did the Review great EP!!

 

Thank you for the awesome review!!! We loved traveling to Northern Germany to record this collection of songs with the brilliant Lasse Lammert. It was totally different than anything we experienced before and we were able to really get out of our comfort zone and into the journey of the music. The Gothic architecture of the area is enough to rock your mind out of all previous limitations.

Yes. The music video for the title track, The War Inside, is already out. Next up, we will launch the music video for Trailblazer. We are very excited about this one!

Cuéntanos la historia detrás de los miembros de la banda y la banda ¿cómo nació?

 

La banda originalmente se llamaba Meka Nism y su Rusty Tears comenzaba aproximadamente en el 2005, luego Meka Nism por los 3 años, ya que yo (Meka) vivía en Japón y en apariciones en solitario. Conocí a Bobby Keller a finales de 2010 cuando se convirtió en Meka Nism y es el formato que somos hoy. Hemos realizado 3 EP (Dance at the End of the World 2013, The Shift: Anthem for a Revolution 2015 y The War Inside 2018) hasta el momento y hemos viajado por todo el país en varias giras más recientes con la gran banda teatral de metal Avatar. Siempre había admirado a Jay Adkisson en el teclado y se ajustaba perfectamente para ayudar a crear nuestro sonido característico. Con la energía bruta de Jarret Robinson en el bajo y la mente compleja del baterista principal Chris Lane, nos aventuramos a Alemania para grabar nuestro EP más reciente, The War Inside, del cual todos estamos muy orgullosos y emocionados.

¿Quién es Meka? ¿Cuál es tu historia?

 

Mi carrera anterior toqué la guitarra para bandas de punk y metal, escribí poesías, hice exposiciones de arte, activismo, eventos y comencé mis propias bandas y proyectos en solitario como Angel Autopsy, etc. Estuve activa en la escena mientras estudiaba y obtuve un título en Artes y Letras con estudios de género menores, incluyendo estudios en el extranjero en Inglaterra e Irlanda. Empecé la banda como Meka Nism y su Rusty Tears como un proyecto conceptual para expresar los sueños que estaba relacionando con un pueblo en el infierno y un Ángel renuente. Fue un comentario sobre cómo ser humano o la carne a veces se siente muy mecánica sin propósito o inspiración. Necesitamos arte, pasión y música para vivir realmente. Era un estilo más acústico cuando decía con saxo de barítono, chelo, percusión y yo cantando, escribiendo y tocando la guitarra. Lancé el álbum, Mad to Love (con la canción ganadora del premio SSA con el video musical Break) en enero de 2007, la misma semana que me mudé a Japón. Jugó más de 150 conciertos allí como solista, la Sra. Meka Nism, como artista de performance con influencias de la ópera y bailarina inspirada en Butoh y con mi banda japonesa Origami Girls. Volvió a Orlando y fue entonces cuando el foco se volvió aún más potente que nunca. Es increíble gritar y cantar tan honestamente. No muchas personas a lo largo del tiempo han tenido esta libertad. También estudio artes curativas y chamanismo, por lo que la importancia del mensaje de lo que viene a través de la música es muy emocionante para mí. Los temas de manifestación y empoderamiento personal provienen de las canciones. Llego a incorporar todos los aspectos de mi misma, la pasión y los estudios sobre lo que hacemos con Meka Nism y sé que se expande para sorprendernos incluso a medida que crecemos juntos y con nuestra tribu.

 

¿Qué estilo es tu favorito y por qué Meka?

 

Adoro profundamente todo lo que es increíblemente expresivo e inquietantemente hermoso al mismo tiempo. Me meto en la música de vastos géneros y períodos de tiempo, como un vampiro de todo sonido. Me encantan muchas épicas, metal progresivo, goth infused rock y gitano punk cabaret. Me encantan los cuentistas tiernos que pueden arrancarte el corazón y hacerte sentir más poderoso por eso. Agregue un toque inesperado de instrumentación y me vuelvo loco.

 

¿Cuáles son los estilos musicales que se mezclan en tu música?

 

Dibujamos de tantos estilos diferentes, todas las ramas del metal y más allá. Si es poderoso y nos llega, viene a través de nuestro sonido. También estudio el camino del chamán, los sanadores, los monjes, las brujas, los alquimistas, los maestros iluminados. Siento que las intenciones elevadas hacen que la experiencia auditiva sea más épica. Que esto sea más que solo sonido, que oscile tu núcleo, tu espíritu, tus manifestaciones de tu ser futuro.

¿Qué significa el nombre de la banda?

 

Es tanto mi nombre personal y el nombre de nosotros como una unidad, como una máquina bien engrasada con todos sus engranajes trabajando juntos para crear bandas sonoras con carga eléctrica.

 

¿Cuál es el elemento más importante para ti, Meka? la letra, la inspiración o el estilo musical en The War Inside (EP)

 

El mensaje que llega a través de la música es la culminación de todos los elementos. Habla a las partes más profundas de las almas. Esta definitivamente no es una experiencia plana y plástica a nivel de superficie. Esto es metal, esto es espíritu, y esto viene de una inspiración poderosa. No lo permitiríamos ser menos.

 

¿Cómo fue la experiencia trabajando en el estudio para The War Inside (EP)? Hice la Reseña de tu EP!!

 

Gracias por la impresionante reseña! Nos encantaba viajar al norte de Alemania para grabar esta colección de canciones con la brillante Lasse Lammert. Fue totalmente diferente a todo lo que experimentamos antes y pudimos salir de nuestra zona de confort y entrar en el viaje de la música. La arquitectura gótica de la zona es suficiente para sacudir tu mente de todas las limitaciones anteriores.
