What began as an individual endeavor by Brazilian cellist and vocalist Bruna Wanderley, who now calls Montreal, Canada home, has now come to fruition as a full-fledged band known as Kapitur, which features members from Montreal's Spectral Wound, Cauchemar, Metalian, Ratpiss and Massive Scar Era. With a completed lineup in 2022, Kapitur unleashed an introductory cover single of Sepultura's "Roots Bloody Roots" with an astonishing music video to great acclaim.

Not wasting any time between releases, in July 2023, the band unshackled their debut EP "Covered in Dust", a heavy, ethereal, and atmospheric record, that was a personal songwriting and instrumental exploration by band founder Bruna Wanderley.

Released as a conceptual work, "Covered in Dust" burns down everything, that held Bruna back and allows her to flourish over the trauma.

Bruna explains the EP in further detail:

"Thematically, the EP speaks from personal experience. Inspired by the intrinsic struggles of exile, relationship trauma, and the safe space found in sci-fi literature, the record travels through wonder, solitude, and disillusionment. The existential themes are metaphors for the process of leaving one’s own homeland, failing to adapt, and making someone else your home to then yearn for salvation. The music moves from bleak cacophony to comforting melodies played on the cello, with warm, sorrowful tones that take you on an individual journey in a timeless space. A soul-burning amalgamation of chaos and beauty that unfolds an atmosphere and pace that allows for the coexistence of tranquility and despair."

Today, Kapitur presents their new video for the EP's opening track "Nature Morte", a song that was inspired by the ferocity of artists like Jarboe and Myrkur, who have influenced Bruna to compose, sing, and learn gutturals.

Bruna explains further:

"The main riff in the song came to fruition on the cello, while the other instruments were added to suit its atypical presence. NM is about post-trauma disembodiment, the feeling of dissociating from your body and emotions in order to cope. Amidst an intangible turmoil, we tranquilize ourselves in the trivial only to become passive observers. Not seeing things for what they are, we give way to madness. Lost in our disembodiment, a distressed inner voice that had been shut calls for help, to the realization of our denial and numbness. This track is the only one that follows the familiar form of verse-chorus-bridge-outro."

My Recomendation

We start with Nature morte ambiently with great atmospheric sounds, drums and Bruna's voice that together with the slow, dense and heavy chords of that characteristic dark doom metal the song is overwhelming, then with the homonymous song of the same name from The Dust EP in Us we continue in the same line of the previous song now with a hypnotic, strong and constant rhythm of slow chords, in long time and on equal drums, now Bruna's voice sounds heavier and more powerful, and that cello gives it that touch Dramatic and melancholic exquisite! Later with the song Amaurosis it starts in a melancholic way with the opening of its excellent cello setting the song with its clean voice and in the company of drums with a slow and discreet rhythm, and finally with Dream of The Ants starting in the same way as at the beginning of this beautiful EP, with the clean voice of Bruna, now with that drums a little more constant and great cello that opens now with the powerful voice of Bruna more guttural and energetic, the rhythms become a little more accelerated and energetic, it is the longest song in duration.

The EP is dense, melancholic, as described in its introduction with that Blackened doom-cello well coupled both rhythmically and vocally, the long tempos, dark, melancholic atmospheres and that cello is shocking plus Bruna's voice with the good changes of record that she has from clean to guttural type vocals, the theme of the EP is excellent and is transmitted in each track of the EP in that dramatic and bestial way.

Información rápida sobre vídeo musical y EP:

Lo que comenzó como un esfuerzo individual de la violonchelista y vocalista brasileña Bruna Wanderley, quien ahora considera su hogar en Montreal, Canadá, ahora se ha hecho realidad como una banda de pleno derecho conocida como Kapitur, que cuenta con miembros de Spectral Wound, Cauchemar, Metalian, Ratpiss de Montreal. y Era de la cicatriz masiva. Con una alineación completa en 2022, Kapitur lanzó un sencillo cover introductorio de "Roots Bloody Roots" de Sepultura con un video musical asombroso que obtuvo gran éxito.

Sin perder tiempo entre lanzamientos, en julio de 2023, la banda lanzó su EP debut "Covered in Dust", un disco pesado, etéreo y atmosférico, que fue una exploración instrumental y de composición personal de la fundadora de la banda, Bruna Wanderley.

Lanzado como un trabajo conceptual, "Covered in Dust" quema todo lo que detuvo a Bruna y le permite florecer sobre el trauma.

Bruna explica el PE con más detalle:

"Temáticamente, el EP habla desde la experiencia personal. Inspirado en las luchas intrínsecas del exilio, el trauma de las relaciones y el espacio seguro que se encuentra en la literatura de ciencia ficción, el disco viaja a través del asombro, la soledad y la desilusión. Los temas existenciales son metáforas del proceso de dejar la propia patria, no adaptarse y hacer de otra persona su hogar para luego anhelar la salvación. La música pasa de una cacofonía sombría a melodías reconfortantes tocadas en el violonchelo, con tonos cálidos y tristes que lo llevan a un viaje individual en un espacio atemporal. Una amalgama apasionante de caos y belleza que despliega una atmósfera y un ritmo que permite la coexistencia de la tranquilidad y la desesperación".

Hoy, Kapitur presenta su nuevo video para el tema de apertura del EP, "Nature Morte", una canción que se inspiró en la ferocidad de artistas como Jarboe y Myrkur, quienes han influido en Bruna para componer, cantar y aprender guturales.

Bruna explica más:

"El riff principal de la canción se materializó en el violonchelo, mientras que los otros instrumentos se agregaron para adaptarse a su presencia atípica. NM trata sobre el desenvolvimiento post trauma, la sensación de disociarse del cuerpo y las emociones para poder afrontar la situación. En medio de la agitación intangible, nos tranquilizamos en lo trivial sólo para convertirnos en observadores pasivos. Al no ver las cosas como son, damos paso a la locura. Perdidos en nuestra incorpórea, una angustiada voz interior que había estado cerrada pide ayuda, a la realización de nuestra negación y entumecimiento. Esta pista es la única que sigue la forma familiar de verso-estribillo-puente-outro."

Comenzamos con Nature morte ambientalmente con sonidos atmosféricos geniales, batería y la voz de Bruna que junto a los acordes lentos, densos y pesados de ese característico doom metal oscuro es abrumadora la canción, después con la canción homónima del mismo nombre del EP de The Dust in Us continuamos en la misma línea de la canción anterior ahora con un ritmo hipnótico, fuerte y constante de acordes lentos, en tiempo largo y en batería igual, ahora la voz de Bruna suena más pesada y poderosa, y ese cello le da ese toque dramático y melancólico exquisito! Posteriormente con Amaurosis arranca de manera melancólica con la apertura de su excelente cello ambientando la canción con su voz limpia y en compañía de batería con ritmo lento y discreto, y finalmente con Dream of The Ants arrancando semejante a la misma manera que al inicio de este bello EP, con la voz limpia de Bruna, ahora con esa batería un poco más constante y cello genial que da apertura ahora con la poderosa voz de Bruna más gutural y enérgica, los ritmos se hacen un poco más acelerados y enérgicos, es la canción más larga en duración.

El EP es denso, melancólico, tal como se describe en su introducción con ese Blackened doom-cello bien acoplado tanto rítmicamente como vocalmente, los tempos largos, atmosferas oscuras, melancólicas y ese cello es estremecedor más la voz de Bruna con los buenos cambios de registro que ella tiene de voces limpias a tipo guturales, la temática del EP es excelente y se trasmite en cada pista del EP de esa manera dramática y bestial.
