Tystnaden were born in 1999.

The band's sound is a fascinating blend of instinctive energy and elegant atmospheres. Evolving over time from immediate dark tones to a more mature expressiveness, it combines a strong melodic sensibility with gritty, catchy riffs.

After years of silence, the band rediscovers itself in 2023, merging its roots with a precious maturity. This is how the songs that will constitute their new album, "The Black Swan", come to life. Tystnaden entrusts the production of the album to Fabio D'Amore (Synonym Of Sound), which is recorded between Silz (AU) and Friuli Venezia Giulia (IT). The album's mix benefits from the collaboration of Francesco Marzona. The album's title is a tribute to Nassim Nicholas Taleb's 2007 essay, which discusses the strong impact of rare and unpredictable events and the human tendency to retrospectively find simplistic explanations for these events. This theory has since been known as the Black Swan theory.

Greetings band! Nice to hear from you! I haven't heard from you in a while! I'm glad they're back! Welcome

Tell us about the super comeback of yours? Because the pause at this time.

LDL:

Thank you very much for this enthusiastic introduction! It could be answered in one line: we had a strong internal need to release emotions in music and lyrics. From 2012 to 2017 I took a pause from the band for personal reasons. Tystnaden continued to promote our last album “Anima” (2012) with live performances and on social media. 2017 was the year of changes: the awesome Giulia joined the line-up, Cesare found new inspiration with the writing of new songs and at the beginning of 2018 he made me hear some rough pre-production and onestly...the emotion was strong... and I decided to return to what has been a second family for many years, because for me this has always been Tystnaden. In 2019 we started again together with live activity and with the pre-production work of the songs, a magical moment, unfortunately abruptly interrupted by Covid in February 2020. It was a bad break, which affected me and Stefano, our bassist, in a professional way. We had to wait more than a year to see each other again and start working on the new album, and these events certainly brought out our interiority even more to pour it into music and lyrics.

Tystnaden has a great career, with an incredible musical mix, now how can we describe its modern metal?

LDL:

Our style is super hard to pin down, now more than ever, because we’ve had so many influences, listened to so much music, and gained so much experience over time. Our taste has mellowed out but also gotten rougher in some ways. We don’t really aim for a specific outcome; we just go with whatever feels right at the moment, and by the end, we realize the result is as good as the journey we took to get there.

Tell us about your new single official lyric video BROKEN, it sounds great! Very renovated and with an alternative sound, musical composition?

LDL:

Someone once said about us (and we loved it so much we put it in the Bio) "Tystnaden is a cool mix of raw energy and classy vibes. We've evolved from dark tones to a more mature sound, blending strong melodies with gritty, catchy riffs." Personally, I think we're unique, a bit old-school, not exactly keeping up with trends, kinda like we are in real life. But we're awesome — full of energy, passion, a bit of smarts, and a ton of heart. Our songs can be both complicated and simple, with raw emotion and sweetness all at once. I hope people can see and hear us with the same loving view I have for Tystnaden. The way we compose hasn’t changed much over the years. It usually starts with an original idea, often from Cesare, and then we develop it together. Everyone brings their own taste and experience, adding what I think is their magical touch. "Broken" is a preview of what you'll find in "The Black Swan": Tystnaden at our best, showcasing the magic that keeps us together.

Laura De Luca tell us more about yourself! New musical styles? Any different musical influences?

LDL:

Oh, definitely! My influences have totally changed since my kids took over my Spotify and Apple accounts. Let's just say their tastes are way different from mine (the twins are 11 and the youngest is 4), but it’s helped me discover new sounds, for better or worse! Sometimes, though, especially when I manage to be alone in the car, I feel the need to go back to my roots.

Laura De Luca, what was your contribution to this new album THE BLACK SWAN?

LDL:

I wrote all the vocal melodies and lyrics for The Black Swan. Sometimes it was super easy because the melodies and riffs naturally led to where I wanted to go, but other times it was really challenging because I wanted to counter the hardness of the music with a soft and intense vocal line, trying to find something unexpected. Lyrics, on the other hand, have always been my weak point. I often make my bandmates really nervous because I end up completely changing (or writing from scratch) the lyrics of a song at the last minute, wanting to better express what I meant with the vocal melody and intensity. For The Black Swan, I left it so last minute that I rewrote the lyrics about two weeks before I went into the recording studio. Imagine the reaction from the rest of the band… It was chilling, haha (poor them!)

By the way, tell us about the production of the new album that was by Fabio D'Amore, an excellent musician, how was the collaboration with him?

LDL:

For The Black Swan we worked with a producer for the first time, and he really became like the sixth member of the band. It was great working with Fabio D'Amore (Synonym of Sound) because he truly felt like part of our team. He never wanted to change or alter who we are in any way. Let's say he was the most balanced and precise, as his job requires, but I saw the emotion in his eyes more than once. We were lucky (and smart) to choose him for the album production.

Now something very curious about your description of the new album 'As adult human beings, we're accustomed to making decisions based on our experiences, roughly calculating some risks, and relying on predictions… We often overlook the existence and significance of black swans, which can sometimes lead to disastrous consequences. Let's embrace uncertainty, open the eyes of our minds and hearts. Welcome to THE BLACK SWAN.

How can we interpret it in simpler words?

LDL:

In simpler words, our new album, The Black Swan (the title is an homage to the book by Nassim Taleb), is about how life is full of unexpected events that can have a huge impact. As adults, we often make decisions in our lives based on our past experiences, trying to predict and avoid risks. But we tend to forget about those rare, unpredictable events—what Nassim Taleb calls 'black swans'—that can change everything. These can be both good and bad, but they remind us that not everything can be predicted or controlled. And the most important part is the way we react to those events, because we cannot control them nor predict. So, our album encourages embracing the unknown and keeping our minds and hearts open to whatever comes our way.

One question, your new album has to do with Dissociative Identity Disorder, the cover of your album I think tell us something about that, am I right or not? Good theme

LDL:

Actually, the album cover artwork is connected to the concept of The Black Swan and the song lyrics. The idea was to visually represent the power of the human spirit. How we react to sudden, devastating events can change everything. It can lead us to darkness and negativity, or it can help us shine a light for others as well.

Giulia Coletti thank you for being here! What do you tell us about yourself? What was your musical contribution to the new album? What do you think of the new album?

GC:

Thank you so much for this interview! My journey in music started quite a while ago (over 20 years ago). In the previous bands I used to play different genres (mostly thrash-death metal), always as lead guitarist. It’s the way I truly express myself! Since I joined Tystnaden “The Black Swan” was the first opportunity for me to give a contribution also to the composition. Working with my band mates has always been a pleasure. They always encouraged me to express myself freely, so I could write lots of riffs (pretty heavy ones!), arrangements and all the guitar solo parts. “The Black Swan” has a modern metal sound with a lot of influences and speaks perfectly about us, about our passion in music. There is a variety of emotions: some tracks are straightforward and heavy like a punch in the face, others are more introspective, with a complex arrangement and deep meaningful lyrics. I hope you will enjoy it!

Do you have any tours coming soon?

GC:

We’re planning some live shows in the near future. The release date for 'The Black Swan' is August 23, and there will be more dates after that. Between COVID and the slow restart, and the long work on producing 'The Black Swan', live shows have been on hold for a bit. But they're the best part of making music, and honestly, we'd start touring tomorrow if we could (though we're also tied down by our day jobs). We're ready for a string of unforgettable shows.
